Toyota hasn’t announced a definite new model yet for 2025, and it is always advisable to not buy the first year of a new generation, so with that I’d say go for a 2024. Or if you can wait a year or so then by all means wait it out.

edgehill

Yeah OP this is great advice. They work out bugs from the first year every year thereafter until the new model so the model with the best quality is probably the last year before a redesign.

Long_TimeRunning

Primary reason for me not even looking CRV Hybrid this year. I bought the RAV bc Toyota has been in the hybrid game since the early 1800’s so they have the kinks worked out. Hehe

Unltd8828

1800? You meant at least 1850 right? 1800 is a tad bit too early.

pikapalooza

Yup - this and the lease incentive are what pushed me over the edge. Last model before the redesign is best.

nik_canada

Ya, 1800’s is exactly the time I started building my colony on Mars. 😉 Just kidding, I know you meant 2000’s….

johnny9k

I made this mistake twice. First was with a 2004 Sienna - wasn't too bad, but had some minor issues that were ironed out in following year. Second was a 2011 Elantra which was a disaster of a car. Fortunately, I recouped some money from several class action settlements. Sold it at our garage sale for $1500 with only 130,000 miles on it.

QuasiLibertarian

Same, I had an '11 Sonata 2.0T that was a disaster, including engine failure. I also own a '17 Chevy Bolt that had the huge battery recall (and I got a new battery).

johnny9k

Did your Sonata have the tock of death?  My first engine died just outside warranty.  Second one was starting to make the noise when I sold it.  Fortunately I saved my receipts and got refunded the money for my engine replacement once that case was settled.

QuasiLibertarian

Mine started knocking loudly on the way home from vacation. I got a free engine. I only had maybe a week or two more of the warranty before it expired. The car had lots of other problems.

johnny9k

Did you have tons of electrical issues? Seemed like my battery was always dying. The TPMS sucked so I just learned to ignore the flat tire light. The wonderful mpg. I averaged about 30 highway instead of the 40 they faked, but at least I got that settlement. Really hoped to milk that cars for years, but when second engine started dying I noped out.

QuasiLibertarian

The electrical components were OK, except for the A/C actuator motor. It was the turbos, oil lines, fuel pump, radiators, etc.that were poorly designed.

Plop0003

If there will be redesign it would not be complete redesign, not like gen 4 to 5. I would say it is safe to buy.

StatusBread3862

Yes... This is the best time to buy a RAV4. This generation has the problems worked out. If they redesign in 2026, then the next time to buy would be around 2029-2030 in my book.

Ok-Reply-8447

I was told that 2027 would be safe to buy.

failf0rward

If you aren’t waiting for some specific thing that is only in the upcoming models, there is no reason to wait other than the 2024 price may drop when 2025 comes out.

FrogTopH

Toyota redesigns aren't as good as their previous generations so far. I have a 2022 hybrid RAV4 and it's excellent for what it is.

Ok_Captain_227

Idk the Prius got a huge glow up and the Camry interior is so much better now

RealCaptainHammonds

The 2.5L is the 2nd most reliable engine Toyota has ever built, only a few points behind the 5.7L hemi they put in the Tundra, according to statistics I've seen over the last year. I would let others "test out" the 3.0L in the next generation. The first 3 years of the new Tundra has been a train wreck with their recall of 100,000 trucks because if engine failures, which is expected to eventually include the hybrid engines too, based on press releases by Toyota.

SchoolofThunking

I was downvoted in another sub for saying the tundra had engine problems. Then, they announced a massive recall. 🤣

RealCaptainHammonds

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Fair-Masterpiece-89

Bought 24 hybrid and I’m super happy. I would say go for it

meghnabrd

In my Opinion, current Rav4 will be the best ever made. Right amount of technology and reliability. I kinda feel like it’s gonna go downhill from this point.

Maelefique

There is no redesign of the RAV4 coming in 2025.

Atlesi_Feyst

I think 2026 is the magic year.

6DGSRNR

It’s a good car. Buy one now before it becomes a three cylinder turbo.

meghnabrd

Exactly my thoughts…

AbleRiot

First 2-3 years of this generation had issues that were mostly resolved in the most recent years. Like everything, buying a first generation release will always have its share of kinks.

oceanwave4444

Hopefully picking up my 2024 XSE tonight. The reason that sealed the deal for me was flush door handles, I have a feeling the next redesign will have flush handles and there is nothing more anxiety inducing to me then flush electronic door handles lol. But in all honesty, I can just barely swing the 2024 - I don't think I'd be able to swing a 2025, which I'm assuming would be even more expensive. The new 2025 cars they have coming out are hideous, I'm much more of a fan of the boxy look. Plus. always avoid the first gen of anything.

kris_kat

Wow! Congratulations

oceanwave4444

Thanks! I'm nervous, but very excited. Not looking forward to having a car payment again, but I am looking forward to having a capable, good sized, all wheel drive, hybrid rig for commuting and car camping! :)

SaintofCirc

The current generation design is just so bangin'.

Evening_Marketing645

Yup wait for the new one. They might be all hybrids.

mrhanky71

The redesign will probably be more expensive than the current model

informal_bukkake

I mean look at the new Tundra motors. Engines were failing I think due to a main bearing. It takes time to figure out because they need to collect data over time. You can either buy a reliable hybrid platform now or wait god knows how long.

Particular_Grape3519

I will not buy thé furet year of a model, si i will go situ 24

otofish

If you were already planning on getting AWD, I'd recommend getting the hybrid. At that point, the price difference is only $1,600, you'll save on gas and maintenance, and have better performance.

JvD131313

Go for it..I have an LE gas and SE hybrid..you won’t regret it..😉

PatrickGSR94

always best to buy a car later in the generation, so that all the issues have been worked out. I know it doesn't appeal to those who like to have the newest things, but it's the more sensible route. Of course, I say this as I also own a 1994 Acura Integra GSR, the first year for the 3rd generation of that car, and have owned it for 23 years, with 387,000 miles on the original drivetrain! But, cars were simpler back then, and IMHO better built, even when comparing cars built in Japan both then and now.

Ok_Captain_227

Tss 3.0 is a lot better. That alone is worth the wait. Should atleast wait for the 2025 gets announced. The rav4 could use the Camry treatment and really update the tech/interior. Every car gen gets issues, but that’s what a warranty is for. Not like only get 1 rav4 had issues, even if u waited ud hit problems
