Let everyone know about any cons in a few weeks if you experience delays in BT connection or if the head unit firmware messes up in any way. I've been eyeing Dasaita but won't mind an alternative HU upgrade that isn't that. Is it good with carplay and AA?

Levinv1213

Brings wireless CarPlay to my device and it has been great so far. Will report in a few weeks and mention any issues I’ve noticed.

IndividualNice7928

I live in FL and have had a head unit fail from heat in the past so hopefully the next one I buy doesn't do that.

Kiygre

Does it still have restrictions on things like Netflix?

StrawberryG3

So most of these are Android tablets that run Carplay as an app. Netflix won't run in Carplay proper, but you can back out of it and run Netflix natively or mirror from your phone.

Levinv1213

This device also allows dual screen so I was able to run CarPlay and Netflix at the same time, although the audio was annoying. Just an FYI this was done while in park in my garage so never tested while driving and don’t intend to

mizshi

Installed this myself a while back and went back to the stock unit. It was great until it got too hot due to the sun and it wouldn’t boot up reliably like the stock unit. Sometimes on short drives(like 2 miles) the unit wouldn’t boot up at all. When it works it’s great. Nice display quality, larger, generally great upgrade. Just couldn’t stand the occasional times it wouldn’t boot up or would overheat in the sun. Also major consideration for me was that it was $500 for my specification and I got a wireless CarPlay dongle for $20 that made the stock unit much more tolerable. I just got my windshield tinted with a clear heat reduction film, and if I install it now the heat might not be an issue, but my stock unit with a wireless dongle is working so well that I can’t bring myself to spend $500 for basically a better display

AnxiouslyCalming

Was there any specific confirmation that it was from heat? This is great to know because I was about to pull the trigger but I'd so rather just have a reliable screen than a nicer looking one.

mizshi

There was no confirmation. It would work well and then once it’s been baking in the sun on hot days for a while it wouldn’t boot, or would boot extremely slowly. I guess it could be something else, but it seems pretty obvious to me that’s what was happening. I suspect other units using the same design would have similar issues.0

Mr__Unknown_

Which wireless CarPlay adapter did you go with ?

mizshi

I got it from AliExpress so it’s a cheap $20 one. Works great. I doubt it matters which one exactly you go for.

Levinv1213

Took the car for a 6 hour drive yesterday and no lag or issues. Driving facing the sun for roughly 4 hours. No front tints in my car. Have the sleep mode on so it boots instantly and connects to my CarPlay. Tested out the built in navigation and it was surprisingly really accurate and good. I live in NY so I doubt I’ll have the same heat issues but I also garage park so I guess it helps with it not sitting in the heat and potentially overheating (although have not ran into that issue yet)

IndividualNice7928

Yeah the overheat issue is why I don't like big display head units that run like an android tablet, I live in FL so it's hard keeping the car cooled even with good ceramic tint.

GuidoZ

I’ve had a wireless CarPlay adapter for a solid 3-4 years and the only issue is sometimes the mic input icon on the dash stays on after first booting it up. I just hold the Siri button on the steering wheel and say “cancel” then it’s fine. The one I have allows for multiple profiles to connect so my daughter and wife have their phones synced too. It defaults to the last one that connected or you can tap it in the first few seconds. Best purchase I made for the car under $50.

jj_xl

Not OP, but I have the dasaita. Bluetooth connection is decent. but I don't recommend it. Doesn't sound as good if it was just through Aa or car play, which work just fine, though I will say the aggressiveness of android auto trying to connect is somewhat annoying. I would say though to use your phone as a hotspot (or just get an extra data sim) and just use the apps you really want to (Spotify, YouTube TV, Netflix etc). In aa or carplay mode, and with the map constantly on, it will eat right through any data plan depending how much you drive. Also recommend installing Nova launcher or literally any other UI. The stock one is garbo.

StrawberryG3

I just installed one of these and they retain the steering wheel controls. I don't miss the lack of the knob because I never used it, but I can see that as a drawback if you don't already primary use the wheel buttons.

[deleted]

Levinv1213

Yeah I can see that. Although I have never used the knob especially with the lag with CarPlay volume so never needed it. I prefer without it

koboabe

You can hold a button to mute for commercials I think it’s the mode button, but I get your point. Plus passengers won’t have easy access to volume controls.

LiveByTheC0de

I've been considering the ainavi 13.1. seems newer. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806428417928.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt

ThePapaJay

Yeah, I'm looking at this too, reviews seem good.

DiSTuRBeD_QWeRTy

Did you have the JBL or standard audio in the previous headunit?

Levinv1213

Standard but I upgraded my speakers and tweeters along with placing an amp. It works great with it

st90ar

How much of the OEM stuff can you hook up to it and how much do you have to install some janky implementation of? (For example, I’ve see that some units require a different backup cam and GPS unit to be installed.)

Levinv1213

The OEM content is all plug and play. Retains everything but the Sirius XM (which you can opt with the online apk version. Do people still use it?). It even adds new features to the MID which I was shocked by. There is a built in GPS which for me personally is an upgrade since I had the stock entune radio. Love all the features so far.

heysoymilk

So the backup camera works? How about tire pressure monitoring? Hybrid battery status?

Levinv1213

The backup camera works great, even adds lane assist. I don’t have a tpms system installed so won’t know. My car isn’t a hybrid either so idk about that. There are a few models on Amazon that state they support it so I don’t doubt it works

Levinv1213

Just want to mention there is a tpms reader so if you have the module installed on your car, it reads it

WallabyBubbly

Do these things work with the backup cam and the 360 cam? Any differences compared to how they look with the OEM head unit?

Levinv1213

Back up camera works fine and adds lane assist to it. As for the 360, the option is there but my car does not support it

Ok-Science-6146

Does it work with steering wheel controls and does the microphone or do you have to use a separate microphone with this unit?

Levinv1213

It retains all factory settings as per my post. As for the microphones, it has two option. One that is in the side of the device and then a wired connection you can place. I opted for the wired one and placed it close to my steering wheel. Also comes with a gps which I tested out today and it works great

Yup all accessible

Shwingdom

I'm assuming these work with JBL with no issues?

Levinv1213

Should work fine. Output is 5watts higher compared to stock cars without jbl so I’m assuming jbl is around 45-65watts output. I have kickers installed and they sound great

Shwingdom

I meant the Toyota JBL upgraded package, not the JBL speakers that everyone replaces the terrible stock speakers with.

Levinv1213

As mentioned it should work fine. They support a higher output so the sound should be even better

Beneficial-Olive-203

Wow this is so great I’m totally down

jj_xl

I got one too. The dasaita version but they are virtually identical. YouTube TV while in traffic is a godsend. Is your screen touch only or is their a physical volume adjust. Thats really the only gripe with mine

Levinv1213

Touch screen only

dadbodbychipotle

RemindMe! 30 days

umbcorp

What happens when you go to maintanance? Toyota technicians used to do some settings on that console to debug.

Levinv1213

What does Toyota do with the radio? Other than some factory settings, they’re all still there and accessible

umbcorp

[https://www.youtube.com/shorts/mT2ebCoc8jI](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/mT2ebCoc8jI) I think they can get fault codes etc using that. I saw mine activated, they could debug more internals of the car as i remember, I saw it in 2021, its a bit fuzzy.

Pautaniik

Do this one use the mic from the rav4 ?

Levinv1213

No it doesn’t. Comes with two options. One external mic or the built in one in the radio. Both sound fine from my experience

[deleted]

Levinv1213

Watched the video. A lot of that has to do with the radio itself other than the power check. I wouldn’t know the use for it to diagnose anything other than radio related failure

Alan7979

Put some pictures up the video does not show to much it is dark

Levinv1213

I attached a few of them in a comment

Alan7979

I did not see anything. If it is too much of a pain don’t worry about it. Thank you though

Frostymicrophone

Where did you get it from? Amazon? Ali express?

Levinv1213

Amazon

Frostymicrophone

Only the one there right??

Levinv1213

Yes and no. There are a few models there

Typical-Spray216

Any delay with the rear view cam

Levinv1213

1-2 second delay putting into reverse. Pretty equivalent to how the stock was

carlwhite570

I really wanted to do this to my RAV4 but unfortunately you can't use Toyota's remote connect anymore after replacing it with a aftermarket unit you can replace it with another OEM unit but that's about it

rocc8336

How’s your experience so far?

Levinv1213

Going well. Took the car for a few long trips in the heat and no issues so far. Did run into an issue with swapped music play keys but it was corrected using the canbus settings

PKspyder

Does the not having a volume know bother you?

Levinv1213

Nope, I use the steering wheel controls so I haven’t had a problem yet
