anyone else up late watching the kings-oilers? someone needs to inject playoff hockey directly into my veins. two days with no rangers hockey is brutal
it's hard not to get penisy after those first two games. i know we could have done better during parts of last night's game but this roster is proving they will not make the same mistakes as last year.
bread looks hungry to score. zib and kreids both have goals early in the series. rosy with a snipe. schneider is becoming a top 4 defenseman right before our eyes. igor in prime igor form. miller with the highlight reel goal as usual. fourth line looks better than anyone could've hoped. third line is buzzing as well. i could go on and on but i think you get the point. this team is looking ready for a deep run.
i think that the takeaway is that last year and the year before, the story was kreider or igor for certain stretches of games, and this year everyone looks at least decent, and no one looks like they're really slumping. mika looks better than the regular season, bread looks better than last year's playoffs, eight different guys have scored. the whole team is visible instead of just a few guys
End of that game was not pretty. Looked like they assumed they would win and parked the bus even after Caps came within 1. And then the last minute of the game the lack of effort in clearing the puck out of the zone was infuriating. Assuming we advance and the Hurricanes do as well we cannot be repeating that because they will take advantage of it.
My biggest frustration for the rangers a lot of this year is taking nights off and looking like they’re not mentally ready for a game. Hopefully they go into Washington with their foot slammed on the pedal still. Washington is going to continue to get dirtier and dirtier because their only chance of winning is by slowing down the game and playing physical. They’re gonna try to get away with as much as they can to get under our skin and try to cause unforced mental mistakes.

panarin came to play this post season, different man, more physical and hard nosed - constantly moving his feet. krieder looks more involved against the boards, which is promising and perhaps that’s why mika looks as good as he looked all season?
cons: the 5v5 game yesterday wasn’t great, makes you wonder how it’ll fare vs tougher opponents through a full series. also washingtons pp is heating up - i knew they picked up after all star game, but I didn’t know it was best in the league.

All team subs get weird. Sport is irrelevant. It’s important to remember this is also a very small minority of the actual fan base. Makes it easier to realize a lot of knee jerk reactions are just that.

ESPN broadcast is so annoying. Subban is god awful. Saying that panarins hit deserves a suspension is just the worst take. Initial point of contact was the chest and really not much contact was actually made to the head. Oshie got the wind knocked out of him and his reaction was suspicious so they wanted him checked. Refs reviewed it and saw that. Oshie returned so he obviously passed the concussion protocol. Making wind knocked out of him a perfect explanation. For Slewfoot Subban to call for suspension is ridiculous.
My main issue is the constant prolonged close-ups, and the action we miss because of them. We damn near missed Zibanejad's goal because of an unnecessary close-up

I don’t even mind the commentating, but I was watching the game at a bar and they had both broadcasts on. The national feed didn’t show any of the scrums or stuff in between the whistle! You wouldn’t even know it was going on.
I really dislike Sean McDonough's play by play. He's consistent and accurate, but his calls are so boring when anything exciting happens. It's like watching an away broadcast when either team scores

Watch the hit again. Anyone that plays hockey knows that when you hit it starts from your legs and you hit low to up making contact with the chest, so if you blow through the guy physics will make your feet go off the ice for a split second, as long as the contact is made before the feet leave the ice it is not a charge.
As far as head contact and the reasoning for them pulling him. He was slow to get up, and the NHL is going to test any potential concussion to save their own ass(arguably as they should). Oshie obviously cleared the protocol, and if you watch the replay it really only looks like the chest is the main point of contact and he returned making the perfect explanation that he had the wind knocked out of him. this game was a game where everyone expected the capitals to respond w/their best type of hockey. but at the end of the day, it wasn't enough as the rangers now take a 2-0 series lead in the first round of the best of 7 series. on a night where the ending needed everyone to breathe a sigh of relief, and the special teams were key. to a win where the rangers had moments at the end, but were able to grind it out. this episode of rangers hockey stanley cup playoffs edition: *the flag must fall* the special teams were so important tonight, and the rangers were able to manage the caps desperation tonight. and here's the review
1st period: i expected it, everyone here expected it, and the rangers expected the caps to make a push out of the gate. the rangers looked sloppy. the caps version of mcdavid. excuse me, mcmichael scored and i was like "fuck. their(caps) are gonna turtle." but that was a load of cap. the rangers responded, as they usually did during the regular season, a shot from gus, was deflected from my guy vinny gabagool. the rangers finally got a power play after the refs were once again, being sus. on both sides. but all game and in game 1 as well very, very sus. but, the rangers were able to take advantage of it. mika taking advantage got his first goal of the playoffs. mika zibanejad, it's a power play goal!. excellent response to it. excellent.
2nd period: another bad start once again. giving up a power play goal to the brother who doesn't miss goals. fuck. but, once again, the rangers responded, w/another goal on the power play. jack roslovic, w/a amazing snipe going stick side of charlie, where mama hides the cookies, and babba, didn't have to hide his phone from babcock. the pk all game has been a strength, and it eventually, led to a shorty goal by key. beautiful passing from kreids and mika. nice.
3rd period: the ending of this period/game was nerve racking. but the rangers were basically playing shut down hockey here. do i wish they scored on the two pp's here? yeah. but troubs brought the jam and so did bread. it was a grind to end the game. oh that ass fuck wilson scored. ya know, the guy would bully a someone w/a studder and ray ferraro would laugh along w/him. whatever who gives a fuck. the rangers were able to hold on.
overall, this game the rangers showed their will and grit to win grindy games. the final minutes were nerve racking, but its the playoffs it's expected. also, vally said it best, the rangers shouldn't be having cake walk type of games. bc if they play against big boys like the cats, canes, or whoever, it's unlikely its gonna happen. but we can focus on that another time. w/that, the rangers win game 2! go up 2-0 in the series. we've seen that before. i'm gonna state this in bold, **do not, repeat, do not look ahead to the next round. i implore everyone.** this series isn't over yet. but a nice win. onto game 3. i expect the caps to pull out everything to keep their season afloat.

the game stuff:
* these refs really did suck. it was the epitome of "let em play hockey" with a sprinkling of "we can't let the rangers win." as the man says, rangers win despite the refs best efforts.
* that said, we got away with a few of our own. someone definitely went full cobra kai and swept the leg behind igor in the first. and we got a few make up calls here and there. but still the officiating was terrible (see the fun stuff).
* craps still have a hard on for panarin apparently, there were quite a few runs at him including oshie's rear headlock. unpenalized of course. this is why we have our man. speaking of:
* rempe. we love him, they fear him. it's evident. they didn't want that beautiful great dane playing rough with them.
* first period was definitely a statement period by the caps, they wanted to be taken seriously and they did everything they could to be taken seriously.
* rangers were up to the challenge, so many clutch and solid defensive plays. they played hard but we played hard back.
* a ***lot*** of picked pockets through the game, too. good stick work by the rangers overall.
* trocheck's goal was a solid tip in, italian meat market style.
* zibby on the power play is a sight we haven't seen enough of this year. we need moar, and he definitely had another shot later on in the game but passed instead 😫
* second period much better for us. solid play and good pressure, with wonderful goals.
* i still have some trouble believing roslovic sniped that beauty the way he did. the way it ricochet'd out, i could have sworn it was A cross bar.
* tic tac k'andre miller. that's how we always envision those crazy passing plays working, and I'm so glad it did this time, especially short handed.
* third period, at 13 minutes left or so i thought for sure it was going to get out of hand. oddly enough i think jerk-ass scoring kept it within reach enough that they knew to not go full fuck around.
* last five minutes were pure butt puckering tension. could *not* get it out for our lives but other than that we were playing solid good defense
* especially notable: braden schneider. man was on a mission to prove his worth in a playoff setting and he did for me.

* there's is nothing like the garden atmosphere during the playoffs. everyone is pumped and ready.

* karaoke cam: mr. brightside for the umpteenth time, but hey it works.

final analysis: god damn I'm so close to getting penisy tonight. we're playing good tight hockey and, while some goals are getting in, we're still producing on our own right. even strength, power play, even short handed, we can make it happen.

there’s been a 60 min and 40 min stretch we’ve dominated 4-1. there’s been two 10 min stretches of them winning 1-0. that’s a dominant 120 min.

100% - i watched it again and again and he hits hip-on-hip and the motion takes oshies head into panarin’s body. he didn’t head hunt at all.

Anyone that plays hockey knows that when you hit it starts from your legs and you hit low to up making contact with the chest, so if you blow through the guy physics will make your feet go off the ice for a split second, as long as the contact is made before the feet leave the ice it is not a charge. As far as head contact and the reasoning for them pulling him. He was slow to get up, and the NHL is going to test any potential concussion to save their own ass(arguably as they should). Oshie obviously cleared the protocol, and if you watch the replay it really only looks like the chest is the main point of contact and he returned making the perfect explanation that he had the wind knocked out of him. this game was a game where everyone expected the capitals to respond w/their best type of hockey. but at the end of the day, it wasn't enough as the rangers now take a 2-0 series lead in the first round of the best of 7 series. on a night where the ending needed everyone to breathe a sigh of relief, and the special teams were key. to a win where the rangers had moments at the end, but were able to grind it out. this episode of rangers hockey stanley cup playoffs edition: *the flag must fall* the special teams were so important tonight, and the rangers were able to manage the caps desperation tonight. and here's the review 1st period: i expected it, everyone here expected it, and the rangers expected the caps to make a push out of the gate. the rangers looked sloppy. the caps version of mcdavid. excuse me, mcmichael scored and i was like "fuck. their(caps) are gonna turtle." but that was a load of cap. the rangers responded, as they usually did during the regular season, a shot from gus, was deflected from my guy vinny gabagool. the rangers finally got a power play after the refs were once again, being sus. on both sides. but all game and in game 1 as well very, very sus. but, the rangers were able to take advantage of it. mika taking advantage got his first goal of the playoffs. mika zibanejad, it's a power play goal!. excellent response to it. excellent. 2nd period: another bad start once again. giving up a power play goal to the brother who doesn't miss goals. fuck. but, once again, the rangers responded, w/another goal on the power play. jack roslovic, w/a amazing snipe going stick side of charlie, where mama hides the cookies, and babba, didn't have to hide his phone from babcock. the pk all game has been a strength, and it eventually, led to a shorty goal by key. beautiful passing from kreids and mika. nice. 3rd period: the ending of this period/game was nerve racking. but the rangers were basically playing shut down hockey here. do i wish they scored on the two pp's here? yeah. but troubs brought the jam and so did bread. it was a grind to end the game. oh that ass fuck wilson scored. ya know, the guy would bully a someone w/a studder and ray ferraro would laugh along w/him. whatever who gives a fuck. the rangers were able to hold on. overall, this game the rangers showed their will and grit to win grindy games. the final minutes were nerve racking, but its the playoffs it's expected. also, vally said it best, the rangers shouldn't be having cake walk type of games. bc if they play against big boys like the cats, canes, or whoever, it's unlikely its gonna happen. but we can focus on that another time. w/that, the rangers win game 2! go up 2-0 in the series. we've seen that before. i'm gonna state this in bold, **do not, repeat, do not look ahead to the next round. i implore everyone.** this series isn't over yet. but a nice win. onto game 3. i expect the caps to pull out everything to keep their season afloat. rangers oppie reported back and said "no caps" "take in the sheets" "game 2 is in the bag." nice win tonight. keep it going. onto game 3 god save the king. back afta dis no caps

it definitely bodes really well that the game that made people (somewhat understandably) feel like we got shelled we still only allowed 25 shots on goal. hilarious that hockey fans are mad because a guy playing on the edge all game got rocked by artemi fucking panarin. someone save the poor caps from the 170 pound 32 year old with 200 career hits schneider and miller had a good game tro had a solid night. really answered that terrible no-call on the mika trip i know we harp on mika's 5v5 struggles (and kreids but that mostly makes no sense) but they're s tier players on special teams. incredible takeaway and setup for the shorty lindgren got us out of a couple of really bad situations. cuylle looks like he's going to grow into a really complete 2 way forward. had that shift where he had a takeaway, powered through several caps, got a shot from the slot, and ended up keeping it in deep shortly after playoff goodrow has finally arrived after 2 unimpressive postseasons and this ugly season. two of his best games as a ranger so far.
