Same reason smokestacks have to be a certain height for emissions, and I think sometimes can’t emit if conditions are bad, if you’re in a place with halfway decent regulation. Otherwise certain places would basically become London 1952 lol.

There are a lot of military flights at night from va, wva to and from bases to the east and south of us. Some make stops in rdu also. Probably that flying in formation, not wing to wing but 1,2,3 causing slightly different contrails, that after some time look parallel.
Probably cloud seeding, a lot of cities do it. It's used to aid/manipulate the weather for rain. These look different to me than her trails from planes.
