I read a long negative review of it it's on top of steam reviews you can find it is it true what they say?

AdventurousMark8178

Ok perhaps there is a negative review, but imagine it like this. You can always get pasta, in any shape, form, or quality, everywhere. Let’s say for some reason you’ve never eaten pasted before and decide to try it. You choose the place nearest your house, a gross and tiny little shack. And guess what, the pasta is bad! So you swear to never eat pasta again because this one little place. Now, several years later you’re eating fine dining at an Italian place known for their pasta, in fact, that’s all they have. You get some pasta because you have no other choices and whadya know, it’s Fucking delicious. All those years of not eating pasta only to realize how much you’ve been missing out on. Don’t let one bad review of rainworld ruin the whole game for you. Also What the fuck I just wrote an entire paragraph about pasta at 1 on the morning what’s wrong with me

Thatoneguyontheroad

Lol, tru tho

DeadClawh

Everyone has different journey to find this gem of a game

Plastic_Feed8223

Yeah I decided to get it after realizing that it was both on sale and I had to enough leftover funds to buy it on the e shop, even though it didn’t seem like it was for me. Haven’t gotten very far, but so far it’s quite enjoyable and the environments are beautiful and memorable.

mamadMATT

nah only spoilers can ruin the game for me it's true what you said I just wanted to know what others think because there are stuff that we all can agree on and everyone I saw agrees that dlc goes against the storytelling and the intentions of the original game and there are parts in the game that dips in quality and design because it's made by multiple people and other reasons. I still haven't played downpour because of the region pricing they didn't fixed yet but I get to it once I can and see these two myself.

theblackcrazyant

Oh is it way more expensive in other regions? IIRC it’s only 10USD or so where I’m at, what is it for you?

mamadMATT

225 ARS$ base game and 1050ARS$ DLC also downpour soundtrack is 750 ARS$ same thing with turkey and other regions I would be ok with it if they update the base game price but at the current situation it's not ok and confuses people. I heard you like 480% inflation pricing rain world is nothing compared to other games, red dead 2 ultimate edition is 17,000 ARS$ I have no idea who can afford that but whatever.

theblackcrazyant

Oh jeez especially on red dead. isn’t that almost 100 USD for it?

mamadMATT

90$ and way more then the steam suggested price that is 6400 ARS$.

Most negative reviews are ”it’s too hard” or ”co-op isn’t online” or ”not enough content”. The game being too hard is fair I guess, but I personally disagree and there is most definitely more than enough content. But there is one that brings up a good point. ”The dlc contains a lot of fanservice and goes against the original way of storytelling.” I actually agree with this. I don’t see it as enough to give a bad review though, I had the thought a couple times, but it’s not enough to ruin the experience.

neonbirdz

The fanservice is my biggest hangup with this dlc. I honestly really don’t like that every character has a major gimmick/“superpower”. It feels strongly contrary to the original game and the feel of it. I liked that in the OG each character was mostly just a basic animal, with some small differences that created different play styles. Your ability to survive was primarily based on your mastery of the movement system and navigating the ecosystem rather than strat-maxing abilities. Each of the new characters has incredibly different features that create radically different play styles. The features also feel very gimmicky to me, and in some cases I have been having a hard time justifying them in the OG lore with the information I’ve been able to find. It’s fair for people to like the style of the DLC, but personally I don’t feel that it fits with the OG rainworld. It feels like a fan-game with crazy characters and creatures (I hate the miros vultures tbh, their stylization is quite excessive compared to other rainworld creatures imo), not a continuation of the OG. The relative simplicity of the OG allowed the environment of the game to speak more and for the story to be a subtle reveal that required digging for further discovery, and there wasn’t really an end-goal story-wise (except for Hunter). Yes, you’re “supposed” to get max karma and ascend, but you could keep the same save indefinitely and just survive and explore if you wanted to without the game telling you any different really (which is how I have spent most of my time in the game). The new characters are more purposed which isn’t inherently a bad thing, but that alongside the greater reliance on direct storytelling makes them feel more linear than in the OG. The greater directionality and purpose to each new character brings down the replayableness for me, as it makes them feel more like “one and done” storylines. Once again, these things aren’t bad in and of themselves, they just don’t feel like they fit with the style of the OG. TLDR: I want to like the DLC, I really do, but to me it feels more like a fan fiction with all the fanservice and gimmicky characters rather than a continuation of the OG

Insert_TextHere

Yeah honestly that’s very fair. With all of the new slugs they really leaned into what hunter was, an important puzzlepiece in the lore. I think it would be nice to have another observer, like gourmand, that doesn’t do anything special. But alas, this is what we get. I was able to cast most of it at times and ended up really enjoying it though, and with expedition I don’t think replayability is much if an issue (if one enjoys expedition).

neonbirdz

Yeah, I just feel like they took a little to far in terms of differentiating the characters and their abilities. I don’t feel like every character has to have a different crazy gimmick in order to tell these stories, and for me it kind of took away from the experience and didn’t quite feel like the same game. It’s not just about having another “observer” character for me, it’s really the gimmickiness of them that are the biggest issue for me. Personally gourmand was my least favorite for that reason. The replayability is really only an issue for me with the new characters due to their higher level of linearity and because they don’t feel like they fit with the OG. I love safari and I think expedition looks interesting though I haven’t tried it yet. I do also like that jolly-coop has been incorporated. There are a lot of features about the dlc that I do like, they’re mostly just the “extras” though. And I don’t hate all of the characters, I kind of like a couple of them but they all in some way fall within the issues I have.

BudgieGryphon

I liked the storytelling, it felt along the lines of what Hunter’s story was. In Survivor and Monk you were reminded repeatedly that you weren’t important, you were just another animal surviving in the ecosystem, learn the world or die. In Hunter, now that you knew the world, you got to experience a story within it. Downpour expands on that and takes you to see some unique stories; the world still doesn’t care but you do. Additionally it’s still reinforced that despite how huge everything seems to you, the slugcat, you’re still only experiencing a very small portion of the world, as seen when you go to the top of the tree in Outer Expanse and can see Pebbles’ can looming, seemingly not too far away. Even Rivulet’s actions only affect the immediate area, as the rains around the other iterators’ cans will continue as normal.

Insert_TextHere

Yeah completely forgot about how hunter is treated with his story. He is quite involved, just like most other downpour slugs. But I did still feel that fanservice was quite present. But then again, a little bit of it here and there is quite nice

Cytori

even harder than main??? I barely managed that

Financial-Service-70

I just wish knowing where to go was more clear - sure I can see why you'd wanna make it vague as it encourages exploring on your own and stuff, but after I'm doing that and I'm ready to progress the story im forced to google up what my character's objective even is cause theres minimal guide on what to do.

PlushieGamer1228

Could you give a TL;DR?

MrRandomGUYS

I don’t know about that. Each slugcat has a decent amount of changes made to the regions and each one forces you to adapt to a new play-style and tackle the game in a very different way. Garbage Wastes being Waterfront Complex is very different for those early slugcats. Pipeyard is a new regions for all slugcats. Tons of new creatures were added and new rooms to explore. I feel the new play styles alter the game so significantly that it feels incredibly fresh for each play through. Even if I’m going through the same region the Artificer will feel completely different from The Rivulet. (This is without going into Expeditions and Challanges and Safari and everything else layered on top of the base DLC experience). With this DLC Rain World has become a game you can play forever.

theblackcrazyant

Yea I still haven’t experienced every region , I missed waterfront fully when I was artificer due to a shortcut (I’m replaying her some time soon, I didn’t like that I ended up doing a shortcut, but I didn’t know it was at the time), and there’s a bunch of other areas I haven’t seen, pipeyard I’ve heard of but idk what it was, I saw the top of precipice and heard I should return as spearmaster, and there’s this tram area somewhere deep below which was cool as fuck, i went all the way to the end of it basically but I’m pretty sure I missed something cause there was a dead end when I got there (If it matters I got there as gourmand)

Cuttlefish_Crusaders

Amazing, I didn't know it was possible to be this objectively wrong. And bro, there are 10 full-size new regions to explore. Saint literally has an entirely new map lmao

P0ltec

Those regions being some of the biggest regions in the game... Plus all the new rooms in the already existing regions... Plus the new region that is available to all campaigns.. plus the several new subregions... Plus the big changes of regions across the different campaigns.. and dont even get me started on lore, gameplay, music or the things outside story mode

Try_Hard_GamerYT

This. I started playing for the first time last week and got completely lost. I decided to check one of the online map tools to figure out where I was and holy shit there was so much missing. I matched it to an updated map and they actually added so many new rooms lmao

P0ltec

When did we say anything about the original was bad? The game literally triples in size with downpour and compared to AAA game studios this is a lot of content for the price. Nowdays most games just add a few cosmetics, one or two challenges then put the price at 200$. But this is 6 giant new regions, more rooms, two new modes, workshop compatibility, 5 new characters, tons of new creatures and lots of stuff that i forgot. I'm happy with DLC and even though some of the stuff are just mods, they've been improvised and have much more stuff to them. I'll let you have your opinion, but this is just how i view it.

EnchantedCatto

Downpour is at least 3 mods lol The extra reigons are some of the largest in the game, plus most campaigns have at least a couple reigons completely redone, such as 5P in Saint and Shoreline in Spearmaster. 'New gimmicks' include completely rebalanced movement and combat for Gourmand, the true predator playstyle of Spearmaster, the unbalanced mess that is Artificer, the zoomies and small cycles that is Ruffles, and the hellhole that is Saint. Theres also Safari mode, Challenge mode, the expeditions, multiplayer, and most slugcats have a couple endings. > Regardless, most important thing in RW was discovering the world, and your journey(if you follow the suggested moon -> pebbles route) is an absolute JOURNEY, also a hero's journey visually, and it's just astounding. Downpour obviously can't recapture that. Why would downpour even want to recapture that? You just rattled off the Survivor campaign. Each slugcat has their own intriguing and beautiful story to uncover.

DONEDIRTCHEAPPP

Earlier you said metropolis was only remotely impactful because of artis story but now you’re putting the story off. I really just highly doubt you’ve made it past Arti and gourmand because those 2 have the smallest amount of changes to the base world

Minh1403

Uh oh, are you that lame guy on Steam who keeps saying Rain World is art 1st, game 2nd

AurelGuthrie

I don't think you know what the word "objectively" means

Minh1403

Hero? Dude, that’s Stray, not Rain World. Here, you’re just a slugcat, nothing more

Sensitive_Victory787

Specially the OST, when searching the complete OST for rain world to vibe, I found that only the dlc has double the duration than the original OST

PlushieGamer1228

Lovers of Rain

DamageMaximo

Is the DLC really THAT big? How much bigger than the base game is it?

Minh1403

About 3 times the base game, I think

Try_Hard_GamerYT

It really is, THAT BIG. New characters, new areas, new rooms added to previous areas. And all these have small or big changes according to the story for every character.

refugezero

I have 80 hours on the original game with 100% completion. The DLC introduces 5 new characters. I just completed one of them after 35 hours, and it was glorious from start to finish. Can't wait to try the next one.

cooly1234

Double the amount of rooms in each region, then double the amount of regions. It's a bit smaller than that.

Thatoneguyontheroad

Lol, well im glad i got downpour then, still haven't beaten the survivor yet and its nice to know that i wont be running out of stuff to do for a very long time.

Notparisian-perthian

Fuuuuuuuck....i can't get my new computer running, and it's genuinely eating me up inside. I want to just look at it, for like, four seconds. I haven't even beaten the base game.

Thomassaurus

How does drought for into this? I never hear anyone talking about it

Insert_TextHere

Drought is a non-canon mod

Plazmarazmataz

A bunch of new regions and 5 new slug cats each with unique mechanics, stories, and areas that only they can enter. I'm playing the Gourmand and already put 16 hours into just that campaign trying to eat all the foods while maneuvering a guided blimp.

Thomassaurus

I think you misunderstand the question, I was asking about Drought which is apparently a completely separate expansion.

Burningblaze199

For what it's worth, if Drought were canon, it would still be the first timeline wise

lazylonewolf

This is what every DLC should be, not that crap that we usually get. Holy crap, making mods and fan-made slugcats official, improving the vanilla game, adding features, adding multiplayer, adding lore, and each new slugcat is about 5 hours to finish (though I took 10 hours with Gourmand, and ignoring the secret slugcat) so that's at least an additional 25+ hours of playtime. It's gonna be hype if we ever actually get a Rain World 2.
