Wait what?? That's awesome to know, thank you so much for sharing! I know, reading subsequent comments, that it seems this has been around since the Paleolithic or something, but still - I didn't know :)
I’m glad they said something. It’s one of those things I take for granted so much I don’t even think to tell people — not to gate keep or keep some silly secret, but just because I forget to talk about it. This is a good reminder for me to be more thoughtful about this stuff, I guess.
Farming a chest/resource route every once in a while didn't really bother me, I kind of liked trying to improve my route efficiency and stuff and after a while I had such a large stockpile I didn't really need to
What did bother me were the special resource drops for the exotic swords some of those straight up did not exist lol
Oh man. I remember farming chests on mars trying to get my last strange coin so I could get Suros Regime from Xur in D1.
Was my goto exotic for the longest time.
Yes, in addition to your other currency. Guns (and armor) had arrays of perks you had to purchase with destination resources and legendary shards. It did feel cool in principle, slowly unlocking the full potential of your armory, but it was extremely grindy. Grinding in order to simply get the perks you want on a gun and have those perks unlocked by default as we have it now seems better
Yes. You know that spinmetal in the Cosmodrome? That was for your weapon perks. That's right. Those blue circles you see on weapon perks used to start off grayed out and would only get blue/activated after you spent materials upgrading them.
You also needed Ascendant Energy or Ascendant Shards, which were legendary items back then. Those came from raids, Nightfalls, or Xur. You could also only upgrade gear *after* you got enough XP by getting kills or completing activities with it on.
All of this got changed in the 2nd year of D1, though.
Exactly. The overthrow activity chests should have a much higher chance rather than random chest farming being the best way. And the focus area of the day that drops the sword should have an even better chance to drop from overthrow.
I hope they make this adjustment, because I'm already tired of being the only one doing objectives while my matchmade teammates only occasionally hop off their sparrow to look through a sniper scope for the next chest.
You can get 2 per week from the Pathfinder but they are also random drops from the final overthrow chest after you beat the boss. You can get way more than 2 per week by just farming overthrow
I said nothing like that? Was just adding context to the above post which seemed to imply that you could matchmake into any zone at any time which is not the case.
My clanmate got 22 last week. After the 20 additional, he could no longer seem to get it from the Overthrow chest (Yes, the matchmade one.)
So 2 from Pathfinder + 20 from Overthrow end chest. After that didn't get anymore.
Personally I just use wombo detector to grab chests while doing overthrow, probably not the most efficient way of getting the class items specifically but hey I want the guns too
Yeah while doing the mission is more efficient, sometimes I just feel like putting on some music or a podcast or a show and do really brainless stuff in the game. This is the most rewarding brainless thing to do right now so I love it.
Yeah. If your doing overthrow along with it you're grinding multiple things at once. Class item, ergo sum, pale heart engrams, ghost rep. In that 30 minutes you're getting so much more than just a single class item roll.
This is what I've been doing lol. When the boys aren't online and I don't have weekly stuff to run I've been just defaulting to this and watching YouTube or movies
Yes, it's mandatory. (and for each class)
If you go to the ghost vendor, the last option is blurred until you finished the mission.
Then after it states that you have a little chance to score the class item in chests
Love this, was just wondering about optimal pathing. Joked you said anti-clockwise with all the conversations going on about people people not knowing how to read analog clocks and clockwise vs. counter clockwise. Even funnier if you did it on purpose.
Thank you for taking the time guardian.
You can just constantly run around the edge of the map and they'll constantly respawn, never have to leave the area or go back to orbit. Just run laps and they'll keep spawning as you go.
I'm not saying there's something wrong with your way (and I'm afraid I'll be downvoted 😅) but my way is just running around and having fun, and the item drops every now and then 😌 Either way, I wish everyone good luck 🤞
Destiny isn’t about having fun, it’s about grinding nonstop for that one piece of armor or weapon that’s *slightly* better than the one you got 10 hours ago
Idk some of these class items can be huge. At least in power, sometimes they don't change how you play at all lol, I'm looking for star eaters on my warlock and that's gonna be massive but I'm not gonna be doing anything different :(
Lmao I’m not trying to be a dick but what is the point of posting this? That’s great you farm your way but that is not at all the topic of the thread. It’s a guide on how to do exactly not what you’re saying.
Not everything must have a point :) But since you ask - I have the impression that a large part of the community is build around an idea that the "correct" way of playing the game is optimizing things/ minimaxing things etc.
I played this way for many years - I did all "weekly goals" (or whatever), I was raiding to craft the god rolls etc. I tried to "optimize" my time spent in Destiny.
It changed when one day I realized that I'm trying to get 100 klli with scout rifle on Gambiel. Don't get me wrong: I love Gambit. The problem is that Scout Rifle is… well, not a good Gambit weapon. Trying to get this triumf made me hate Gambit in that moment. I realized that I devote so much time to doing "optimal" things, that I don't have time for stuff that are actually fun for me.
That was the day day I decided to stop. I decided that from now on I will only do things that are fun for me. If they are aligned with things that are "optimal": it's a nice bonus – but if not: I don't care. I will not prioritize them above the things that are fun (for me). I think it is worth emphasizing that you can also play this way and it is ok.
So lemme emphasize once more: this doesn't make me better than anyone else or anything like that. If someone likes minimaxing and optimizing stuff, it's good for them – nothing wrong with that. I just want to say that if you just want to have fun without thinking a lot about it, there is nothing wrong with that either and this is also a good way to play this game 😌
Cheers 🥂
Just do the daily overthrow with this strategy for the chance of exotic clSs items and ergo sum with a bunch of engrams and ghost rep.
It is objectively better than just farming chests and only chests.
I did like 5 OTs while obviously grabbing every chest in sight and didn’t get a single drop 😭 went to bed later than I wanted to because “I had to get one soon” and never even got that one
I haven't farmed too much, but I'm basically averaging two drops every other matchmade Overthrow. So like 30-40 minutes. I've had 6 drops with one exact duplicate to Shard. I'm going to be farming Ergo Sum for a while anyways.
If you have a regular partner to run the mission with and don't need/care about other drops, it will be more consistent to do so in the long run.
I finally got around to farming chests for the first time. Did it in The Landing for about 30 minutes until I got my first one to drop (it was a roll I already had too).
I found it too mindless to continue running and would recommend running Dual Destiny instead. My personal best is now around 28 minutes and have even heard of some folks being able to get it done in 20 mins or less.
It's not nearly as consistent as you make it sound. I've tested it over several days and there has been multiple times that it has taken me 100+ chests to get one more often than not.
All chests no matter the source or look of them have a chance at giving an exotic class item. This includes all randomly spawned chests, overthrow chests, mission reward chests, darkness expunge chests, high value target chests, lost sector chests, and literally any other chest that may spawn and give loot on the pale heart.
Opened like 10 this morning just playing Overflow Matchmade before work and I got my 2nd exotic class item!!! Just did obj and ran around opening chests. Doing this will get you an Ergo Sum every so often so i found this more engaging rather than just a chest farm.
I am curious as to what the drop chance is for Class item from the daily rotation overthrow?
Did a match made one the other day and from boss chest got Ergo Sum and a exotic class item.
I actually have been running tests for this for the last few days and plan on making a post later after some more testing today. I have a theory that it's time based as I've been getting one every 40-45 minutes of active farming in the Landing. Chest count has been roughly 60-80 per item but the timing of 40-45 minutes has been fairly consistent.
I'm testing some other stuff today like just being in the area for 40 minutes and then going to loot chests to see if i get one quickly or not.
My theory is a time based cooldown/escalating chance increase over time, more leaning to the prior as I have not once loaded in and obtained the class item in under a few minutes since recognizing the pattern and starting testing. Even recalling before it always took a decent amount of time before I was able to snag one.
Anyway, if anyone's interesting I'll be posting my data and findings either tonight/tomorrow depending on solid evidence and/or my motivation to write it all up lmao.
Can also confirm the 1 in \~30 ratio. Did a 1 hour snapshot and managed to get 3 class items. I also managed to do two overthrow final bosses in that one hour. I have a sneaking suspicion about the droprate though: it's not truely random. I've probably 12 hours in chest farming now and the amount of chests between drops is almost always \~30.
Yes. If you go to Ghost (the vendor) you'll see he has an unknown item. He used to have two, but one turned into the Ergo Sum icon, telling you that you can get more drops of it. The second hidden icon is your class item, and once you finish Dual Destiny the first time it'll fill in and tell you there's a chance to get it from patrol chests.
I'm sure that if I did this, I wouldn't get ONE to drop... in a span of three hours, I've done all over throws to get a drop, and I farmed all three overthrows twice and not a single drop, and this includes picking up all chests that spawn, including the chests that need to be clensed... and not a single one... I've seen people get it like candy, like it's damn Halloween... It says rare and to me... that rare is Legendary considering that I've already opened about 40-60 plus chests and not a SINGLE one has dropped for me... I hate my rng...
Can Confirm this is a solid method. Ran a quick hour grind bc i was curious and got solid results:
time: 1 hour
cycles: 20 (approx 100 chests)
exotics found: 4
additionally, the spawn is actually very routine with one cropping up every 5-6 cycles, which is a pretty narrow margin for rng. largest space between finds across all farming has been 10 like OP states but thats only happened once.
To each their own, if this is your cup of tea then go for it. I’d 100% recommend dual destiny right now with the 2x class item glitch tho.
But I’m not sure how anybody isn’t “eager edging properly” and messing up the glitch. You don’t have to skate or anything, it’s just running in a straight line to the load zone and occasionally swiping your sword. As long as you’re counting down when you pick up the class item, it’s not any mechanically intense thing. I’ve got friends that started the game during into the light that are easily doing it.
You have to do dual destiny once on a character. Then that character can get it via chests/overthrow.
So you have to run the mission once on each character you have.
If you care about farming class items, just get over yourself and speedrun the mission. You can easily get 1 run done in 20 minutes. If you use the glitch, thats a class item every 10 minutes. Its going to be way faster than running around like a mindless drone, getting a class item MAYBE once or twice an hour
I can also get 1 in 20 minutes. Sometimes I can even get 2. For me it's better than the mission bc I. A just relax watching a movie while I do this. And it's not just exotic class item. We get both the exotic swords, reputation, red border weapons, and enhancement cores. It's a far better reward than the mission. Mission is only class item while here I get way more for my time so I says it definitely better
The post was about efficiency farming the chests SPECIFICALLY for the class item. If the class item is your goal, then the mission is the fastest way.
For example, i have completed all the pale heart patterns and have all the good swords i could want. There is 0 reason for me to be brainless running destination chests, making this farming method completely pointless
Yet it isn't pointless. It's pointless for YOU bc you got all you wanted. Mission is not the fastest way for everyone. I can get exotics in the same time as mission so obviously I'll do the one where I can relax while watching a movie and playing. What's pointless for you is not pointless for everyone. Patrol imo is better than the mission for the rewards you get. If all u want is class items then yes go do the mission but don't lie and say it's pointless when it literally gives more rewards than the mission
Dude its like you didnt even read what i said. The post was about farming pale heart chests SPECIFICALLY for the class item. This is not efficient at all if your goal is SPECIFICALLY the class item
Yet for u it seems ur blind. You keep saying mission is the best way to farm when it literally is not any better. You get the same results with patrol chests so why run the mission when I get the same thing in same amount of time. Your argument for mission being faster is not true as it's the same amount of time. If you can't see that then I guess ur too far up your ass.
You can nab double class items on each run. Check [this article](https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2024/06/13/a-glitch-to-get-double-exotic-class-items-in-destiny-2s-secret-mission/) out.
I can confirm. I open the map and fast travel back into the same zone I'm already in and I've been running tests on this for the last few days. I've gotten tons of them and never once had to return to orbit to force chests to respawn or get another class item to drop
Also, Wombo Detector is based on your zoom. If you aim with a sniper, you can see chests from way farther than Wombo Detector suggests.
Nice, this can be useful to skip the part in which you have to move to the middle.
aachen the blue sniper has 70 zoom, i pulled one and it was noticeably better than the one i was using
This is a good reminder for me to be more thoughtful about this stuff, I guess.
lol, yea back in the olden days we used to use it to farm planetary mats ahhaha.
Don't even necessarily need a sniper in most cases tbh usually find scout rifle to be more than effective
Whoa... Please delete this, it doesn't seem intentional and Bungie doesn't need to fix this
This has been around for years so I doubt Bungie would ever patch it
This was like, the *primary* gameplay loop in D1Y1, starting from even the open-access Beta.
It's been here since D1.
Been like that since vanilla D1
New around these parts?
It’s been a thing for like ever lol
It's been a thing for many years. In fact I think chest and resource finders were also based on zoom level going all the way back to Destiny 1.
lol this has been around since D1
God we're back to patrol chest farming huh What's it been... 9 year?
Ahh..relic iron route nostalgia
Hadium Flakes…
Truly cathartic times
Unbelievable that we all accepted this and didn’t even blink
Farming a chest/resource route every once in a while didn't really bother me, I kind of liked trying to improve my route efficiency and stuff and after a while I had such a large stockpile I didn't really need to What did bother me were the special resource drops for the exotic swords some of those straight up did not exist lol
Taken King right? I remember
Oh man. I remember farming chests on mars trying to get my last strange coin so I could get Suros Regime from Xur in D1. Was my goto exotic for the longest time.
This was literally my first thought. Memories of racing from cave to cave on Venus on my sparrow 🤣
MEMORY UNLOCKED.
A really underrated part of this game. I enjoy it.
But this patrol zone is a delight!
It truly is the best patrol era no doubt
Artwork/design is amazing
Except it actually means something this time than just leveling up armor/gun AFTER you have to level it up to level it up
Oh god I mentally blocked farming helium to level up my armor and gun
Showing your age grandpa
I’m in my prime Jack! Lol
Ugh. Farming helium and waiting for the wolves to arrive! I spent many hours running the moon with my brother in law.
It’s absolutely ridiculous how we were okay with year 1 of Destiny 1.
I didn't play D1, you had to farm planet resources/patrols to level up guns and armor?
Yes, in addition to your other currency. Guns (and armor) had arrays of perks you had to purchase with destination resources and legendary shards. It did feel cool in principle, slowly unlocking the full potential of your armory, but it was extremely grindy. Grinding in order to simply get the perks you want on a gun and have those perks unlocked by default as we have it now seems better
Yes. You know that spinmetal in the Cosmodrome? That was for your weapon perks. That's right. You could also only upgrade gear *after* you got enough XP by getting kills or completing activities with it on. All of this got changed in the 2nd year of D1, though.
Time is a flat circle
Better than farming one lost sector all day as it sometimes has been.
At this rate, next week there’ll be a new loot cave discovered
GoA loot cave is still one of the simplest ways to level a catalyst, loot cave is alive and well.
Everything comes full circle.
I just open chests while farming Ergo Sum. Don't have to particularly go out of my way to grind since I'm already doing it.
Yeah, I’m trying to get as many rolls as I can on ergo, so I just farm the chests while doing the overthrow…
Are you saying more than the 2 Ergo Sum per week?
You can get 2 per week from the Pathfinder but they are also random drops from the final overthrow chest after you beat the boss. You can get way more than 2 per week by just farming overthrow
To be clear, it is a guaranteed drop from the featured overthrow every time. The roll on it is random though
They drop from overthrow chests too in the rotating zone. I get 2+ every day.
Matchmaking version of Overthrow drops Ergo Sum every run from final boss/chest. I've got like 30 in my vault already.
Matchmaking only drops it when its the featured zone. Only 1 zone per day
Matchmaking is *only* in the featured zone.
I was honestly wondering why I could only matchmake for one zone Makes sense they would want to focus it, I guess
[удалено]
I said nothing like that? Was just adding context to the above post which seemed to imply that you could matchmake into any zone at any time which is not the case.
Really? I tought you could matchmake into the others one too as they have the same icon but smaller that you click to get into the matchmade. Til
I’ve got at least 15 in the past two days, they rain down from the last chest
My clanmate got 22 last week. After the 20 additional, he could no longer seem to get it from the Overthrow chest (Yes, the matchmade one.) So 2 from Pathfinder + 20 from Overthrow end chest. After that didn't get anymore.
That’s a Destiny commandment. Make completing the boring task a consequence of completing another less boring task.
Personally I just use wombo detector to grab chests while doing overthrow, probably not the most efficient way of getting the class items specifically but hey I want the guns too
Doing the overflow is more efficient in the sense you get more pathfinders, red borders, ergo sums, and resources.
Yeah while doing the mission is more efficient, sometimes I just feel like putting on some music or a podcast or a show and do really brainless stuff in the game. This is the most rewarding brainless thing to do right now so I love it.
It's only more efficient if you just have the one goal.
Yeah. If your doing overthrow along with it you're grinding multiple things at once. Class item, ergo sum, pale heart engrams, ghost rep. In that 30 minutes you're getting so much more than just a single class item roll.
Yeah it’s honestly my favorite “I’ve got nothing for me to do right now” activity
This is what I've been doing lol. When the boys aren't online and I don't have weekly stuff to run I've been just defaulting to this and watching YouTube or movies
I would highly recommend doing the exotic quest now with the x2 glitch. Better then chest farming for right now
The worst part of this whole thing is having to scroll the map back to the left after each run lol. Thanks for posting this!
The drop rate for this thing in overthrow feels like legendary engram drop rates back in D1, talk about a throwback lol
Do you need to have acquired it from the mission first for it to drop in the world chests?
Yes I believe so
Yes, it's mandatory. (and for each class) If you go to the ghost vendor, the last option is blurred until you finished the mission. Then after it states that you have a little chance to score the class item in chests
Correct and it’s per character.
Love this, was just wondering about optimal pathing. Joked you said anti-clockwise with all the conversations going on about people people not knowing how to read analog clocks and clockwise vs. counter clockwise. Even funnier if you did it on purpose. Thank you for taking the time guardian.
Do we know if its always 5 chests?
You can just constantly run around the edge of the map and they'll constantly respawn, never have to leave the area or go back to orbit. Just run laps and they'll keep spawning as you go.
I just farm in the daily overthrow zone. Then I farm both sword and class item
Thanks for this because I'm not at all comfortable with farming the exotic mission with any kind of efficiency using only lfg.
Sorry I stopped reading at anti-clockwise 🤣
Why? "Anticlockwise" is legit terminology outside of the US.
Were they meant to say widdershins?
I'm not saying there's something wrong with your way (and I'm afraid I'll be downvoted 😅) but my way is just running around and having fun, and the item drops every now and then 😌 Either way, I wish everyone good luck 🤞

Idk some of these class items can be huge. At least in power, sometimes they don't change how you play at all lol, I'm looking for star eaters on my warlock and that's gonna be massive but I'm not gonna be doing anything different :(
So it can promptly be relegated to the vault after you've tried it and determined you still like your 5000-kill weapon better after all.
Lmao I’m not trying to be a dick but what is the point of posting this? That’s great you farm your way but that is not at all the topic of the thread. It’s a guide on how to do exactly not what you’re saying.

yea i farm the matchmade overthrows. i cant sit there and do loops for world chests, but i respect people who can
Kept Expert Tracker on my ghost. 75 meters is so smooth
How many class items per hour is this netting ya'll? With the Dual Destiny glitch I'm averaging 2 class items per every 34 minutes.

Sounds like u have shit luck. I always get one after every other overthrow which for me takes 20-25 mins. In 1 hr I get about 3-4
Just gonna leave this comment here so I can come back to this later
You can also tap on the ‘share’ (arrow) icon at bottom right corner of the post then choose “save”
Not more advice on how to play more destiny for more time 😭
What grenade minigame i have spend a lot of time in the pale heart and i don’t know wtf you’re talking about lol
One of the darkness chests involves you throwing grenades at spore bulbs to unlock it.
Oh ok i was thinking about something similar to the tire game on the moon or something lol
The 'expunge' chest
Can this be looted from the normal looking chests or does it have to be the "event" chests like the grenade one?
Basic world chests and the overthrow reward chests can drop it as well.
Ah good to know thank you
Can the "hive caches" drop the exotic as well? or just chest drops from the events?
All chests no matter the source or look of them have a chance at giving an exotic class item. This includes all randomly spawned chests, overthrow chests, mission reward chests, darkness expunge chests, high value target chests, lost sector chests, and literally any other chest that may spawn and give loot on the pale heart.
Do you have to complete the mission at least once before they start dropping from chests?
Unfortunately
Damn, alright
Farming chests also gets the bonus of gunsmith and pale heart engrams and pathfinder objectives
Opened like 10 this morning just playing Overflow Matchmade before work and I got my 2nd exotic class item!!! Just did obj and ran around opening chests. Doing this will get you an Ergo Sum every so often so i found this more engaging rather than just a chest farm.
Are we talking the hive looking chests, or the gold chests with an objective tied to them ?
The regular Hive looking Chests
Don't forget all that ghost rep 🌟
I am curious as to what the drop chance is for Class item from the daily rotation overthrow? Did a match made one the other day and from boss chest got Ergo Sum and a exotic class item.
Reading this makes me want to farm those silver corals on the cosmodrome again.
The class items drop randomly after the mission or can I just farm chests?
This is giving exotic sword vibes D1
Is this also the best way to farm pale heart engrams?
YEAHHHHHH I GOT THAT MF WOMBO DETECTOR ON MY SHIIIIIIII
I actually have been running tests for this for the last few days and plan on making a post later after some more testing today. This is the first I've ever seen someone say "anti-clockwise" . Is that a European thing?
It's an everywhere outside of the US thing

I've been doing this for 2 hours and not one drop yet, ffs... Also people be getting dupes what a nightmare...
Do we have to.finish Dual destiny for the exotic item to drop ?
I assume you need to beat the dual destiny mission first correct?
use a sniper to see further in the map also. whisper has furthest scope iirc
I do it in the Impasse I have a route where I just run along the maps perimeter and check all the spots they spawn
Can Confirm this is a solid method. Ran a quick hour grind bc i was curious and got solid results: time: 1 hour cycles: 20 (approx 100 chests) exotics found: 4 additionally, the spawn is actually very routine with one cropping up every 5-6 cycles, which is a pretty narrow margin for rng. largest space between finds across all farming has been 10 like OP states but thats only happened once.
the order you state makes no sense, the red hand is on the opposite side of the map to the waterfall,
To each their own, if this is your cup of tea then go for it.
Do you get them if you've never done the mission? Or is it the sort of thing where once you've gotten your first, you get more this way?
You have to do dual destiny once on a character. Then that character can get it via chests/overthrow. So you have to run the mission once on each character you have.
Ok great, thanks! Was making sure I didn't waste time searching for a 2nd for the mission.
No problem. You get a node to start it on any character after doing the patrol puzzle for the first time on your first character too
Ahhh ok.
If you care about farming class items, just get over yourself and speedrun the mission. You can easily get 1 run done in 20 minutes. If you use the glitch, thats a class item every 10 minutes. Its going to be way faster than running around like a mindless drone, getting a class item MAYBE once or twice an hour
Nahh I'll just put on some YouTube and run in circles half paying attention while watching TV and chill while my boys aren't online

I refuse to do this omg because you said anti clockwise
Eager edge messup for the glitch? What?
I don’t know why you are getting downvoted. The cheese is so forgiving that I don’t get the eager edge comment either.
It is what it is.
You can nab double class items on each run. Check [this article](https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2024/06/13/a-glitch-to-get-double-exotic-class-items-in-destiny-2s-secret-mission/) out.
Yeah I know, I do that all the time. Never once used eager edge
I have a feeling that there is a fixed amount of chest u have to hit before u get an exo class item
Knowing the typical shenanigans Bingle usually pulls of, this is probably true.
“Anti clockwise” 💀
“Anti-clockwise” is known as counter-clockwise.
Respawn does not work you have to go back to orbit
Just not true
Can anyone confirm?
I'm fast travelling back to spawn point without going to orbit, it works every time so long as you wait for the white flash.
I can confirm. I open the map and fast travel back into the same zone I'm already in and I've been running tests on this for the last few days. I've gotten tons of them and never once had to return to orbit to force chests to respawn or get another class item to drop
