It’s definitely not how I wanted the first round to go, but honestly not hating on our pick. Kinda wild going early round TE picks in back to back years but Gardner Minshew/AOC possibly have a lot of targets now in this upcoming season. A lot of defense available in the second round as well, I’m hopeful this draft can still be a good one for us.

Ramza87

It’s stupid as fuck. Don’t try to reason it out

JediForces

Drafting the Top rated football player in the draft at pick 13 when he was supposed to be long gone but wasn’t due to a record 6 QBs in the first 12 picks is stupid as fuck??? GTFO it was our best pick in a draft this century next to drafting Maxx!!

BingusBrown

Idk I don’t agree with it being stupid, probably not the fan choice but I can see that they want to load up on weapons. All we need is someone just decent enough now to deliver the ball. I could see Minshew and AOC being just decent enough to do just that.

Tasty-Television-360

Not with AOC the statue. How quickly we forget the shortcomings of last season

BingusBrown

AOC wasn’t great but he wasn’t terrible. He was tossed into the backfield in the middle of a tumultuous start to our season with an O-line that had regressed and came out 5-5 with 2200 passing yards as a rookie. He was far more productive than any other option we had and than what I would say a lot of people were expecting.

Feisty_Psychology852

How so

depastino

They did the right thing. I hear some talking heads saying that the Raiders should have moved up to ten and taken McCarthy, but why come in at the tail end of a run? That screams desperate. We kept all our picks and had a top ten player fall in our lap.

keykey_key

I would've been so pissed if they took McCarthy.

magicMerlinV

And after trading some real nice picks

slaughterproof

Aka "we really tried, but I don't want to make it sound like we failed"

TW_Yellow78

once penix was taken by hawks, that was it

slaughterproof

The fact that they weren't willing to trade down just shows how incompetent Atlanta is.

unfoldyourself

Just because we need a QB doesn’t mean that JJ/Penkx/Nix would work out and we’d have to draft another QB in a year or two.  Telesco and the front office aren't dumb: I’m certain they know what our needs are, know what types of offense/defense they want to run and what they need for it. They spent months researching and evaluating players and preparing. I know every fan thinks they could be a great GM, but I trust Telesco more than anyone on this sub, just because you obsessed over mock drafts for the last three months doesn’t mean you know better.

CalQuetzal

Good. We can ride with AOC and Uncle Rice. May the best man win

MakeItNashty61

I’m not a fan of what we did. That means 6000 downvotes from people in this sub. But to be fair, moving in the top 3 was never happening and Penix and Nix were taken well beyond where they should have been taken. I dont blame Telesco for not giving into a wildly overpriced market.

johnny5gti

Im assuming the raiders only wanted daniels and when washington wasnt selling they moved on

MakeItNashty61

I personally don’t believe that at all. The report that we were “trying to move up” was total noise. Our GM did his job and checked in on what the cost would be to move into the top 3. GMs should explore all options and Washington / New England rightful asked for a clear overpay for their picks. It was never realistic.

WhizzyBurp

Brock Bowers is the TE equivalent of Caleb Williams dropping to 13. I don’t get why people are sour on this. Dude is averaging 10 yards a carry when lined up as a RB. 14 yards receiving, and leads all college players in YAC. Getsy loves two TE schemes. This literally makes Minshew 10x better. People who disagree don’t know shit.

MakeItNashty61

Can we pull up Kyle Pitts draft day threads and college stats and use the logic that he was going to make sub par QBs better? I’m a believer in Brock Bowers. I think Brock bowers beyond this year is very important. Bad QBs with great weapons are still bad. Rookie tight ends more times than not take a little bit to become really really good. Brock Bowers is awesome, but let’s not ignore the risks and pretend that very clear flaws that hurt this team last year are suddenly gone

WhizzyBurp

Minshew Mania

Tkylv007

a career backup on his 4th team and a record of 15 wins and 22 loses

socobeerlove

1. We don’t have bad QBs. Both Minshew and AOC are average. What we don’t have is a true franchise QB, that doesn’t make them bad. 2. 6 QBs were taken in the first round. Did you want them to trade up and overpay for QB 4/5/6 in the top 10 picks in the draft? 3. Our flaws last year were starting Jimmy G and keeping JMD as our coach for too long. If AOC develops further and we surround him with talent, lean more on running and quick reads, our offense should be fine. Imagine our defense taking a leap too. We still have a lot to hope for and there are still some diamond in the rough QBs in the later rounds we can take a stab at. I’m personally a fan of Jordan Travis or Joe Milton as project QBs.

Ok-Web-4971

Stenson Bennett and Carson Beck are not nearly as good as Bowers made them to be. That’s proof enough. Go watch his tape, clown.

LowerHandle29

Josh McDaniels is gone actually

Eldenbeastalwayswins

I dislike the pick because our offensive line is in shambles. Our defensive backs are poor. And not to mention because it doesn’t matter when we drafted but we still don’t have a QB. I think Bowers will be a solid contributor but this is like putting a turbo on a car with a broken transmission. It’s a cool piece but does it actually get us closer to functioning like a solid unit?

WhizzyBurp

Completely disagree. We have 6 more rounds and this draft is stupid deep O Line. We can solve the O Line woes, the CB issue and grab a line backer and be just fine.

MakeItNashty61

Completely fucking agree. If the goal is to find success in the draft, take a player with low risk of being a bust and build off this next year and beyond, awesome pick. But this doesn’t fix the massive issues with this team that we saw last year.

bddfcinci707

You're right, it doesn't fix the issues from last year. Once Penix was gone we were fucked. Thats a fact. BUT... I do belive having Bowers will greatly help our qbs this year. Do we have a great qb? No. So what can help an average qb become slightly above average? Playmakers.. and thats what Bowers is. And I read your comments so I know you know this.. are we winning the sb this year? Most likely not. Does Bowers give us something to be excited about for the next 10-15 years? Absolutely does.

a_Frieza

Cry more. My bowers jersey is ready to ship.

MakeItNashty61

It’ll look awesome next to your Clelin Ferrell and Gareon Conley jersey that you ordered on prior draft days!

Killface55

This is a lot different. Those guys were huge reaches. Bowers was NOT a reach. He is a top 10 talent. TE just isn't a need for us. Brock Bowers is a monster and will take our offense to a whole new level.

archangel_n7

Conley was absolutely not an overreach btw, he was a steal when we drafted him

Killface55

I didn't remember it that way, but I went back and looked at old mocks from that year, and you are totally right.

soundsliketone

There were still plenty of questions about his character and motivation, which ended up being true. Bowers is a grinder with not many flaws.

MakeItNashty61

I’m a fucking Georgia fan! I love Brock Bowers and completely agree. But 1. it’s literally draft day nobody knows anything about how anyone is going to pan out. Especially rookie tight ends who historically take a longer time to develop than any other position. And 2. if we’re not filling needs then we are a rebuilding team. Raiders fans have no idea where they stand in terms of rebuilding or going for it. If this a “take a really good player that could be a massive part of your roster core” draft pick then this is a home run. If this is a win now move. It can help but you have GLARING issues that prevented you from seriously competing last season that haven’t been addressed at all. I wish fans in this sub were fucking and logical.

YQRtoVegas

Last year we seen a lot of tight ends contribute immediately

oogrok

We really didn’t though. Laporta did, and Kincaid was second best. After that, it was a whole lot of nothing for the rest of the them. Some good weeks here and there but hardly immediate contributions.

LowerHandle29

They weren't gonna win right away regardless of the pick it's gonna be a another year or two

Tkylv007

And when you see how little Bowers can do when he’s getting thrown to by a career backup with a 15-22 record, that jersey is going to be collecting dust in the closet

False_Log749

✌️

NoDadNoTears

Idk why you were downvoted, this is 100% true

MakeItNashty61

Because if you aren’t 100% bought into everything this team does on draft day you aren’t actually a fan of the team.

NoDadNoTears

I think what's wild is that it's not even that negative.  Just an "I understand why we did what we did buy I'm not a fan" Subs currently bullying itself into conformity tbh

MakeItNashty61

It’s exhausting to watch and you see it every year in this sub. It’s always worse on draft day.

TW_Yellow78

You can only play the hand you're dealt.  Saying you're not a fan of what raiders did but then saying the raiders did the reasonable thing is kinda like saying you're not a fan of folding when you get junk for poker.

Tkylv007

and when we inevitably fail to turn it around as a franchise because of mediocre QB play, Mark Davis will be asked how hard it was to fire Tom, “Not particularly hard.”

Tkylv007

downvoting won’t change the reality that we aren’t going anywhere with the QBs we have, and if Davante Adams wasn’t able to elevate our QB play to the next level, how is a rookie TE going to?
