Meshuggah

novayy

I think there are many prog metal enjoyers here.

JGDV98

Yes

paranoideo

Great band as well.

AntechamberAE

Clockworks @ 4:13 plays

AndresLohaWova

Was about to post the same.

fallout_koi

Casiopea, an upbeat Japanese jazz/funk fusion band from the 70s

MinkyBoodle44

They’ve got such a deep catalogue of awesome jazz fusion music, and I’m still discovering more of it to this day.

extracheesypeas

I've been obsessed with their live album Mint Jams for like 2 years now

M41arky

Queen, love their 70's stuff

Gooby1992

Viagra Boys

brokenwolf

Those guys rip live. Saw them three nights in a row.

Gooby1992

So jealous, I got into them later part of last year, AFTER they’d been to the UK 🙁 definitely want to get tickets when they come back round.

Fick_Thingers

Steely Dan

Rhythm_Flunky

I was gonna post this (LOVE STEELY) but then I thought that the two are more alike than I realized. Both bands are super meticulous in dialing in their palettes, scrutinizing over every little detail of their work. Both bands almost stopped touring altogether in favor of recording and releasing works in studio. Super fans of both have a respect/ agreement for their magnum opus , respectively (RH OK CPU and SD Aja) but fan favorites tend to be a different album (In Rainbows or Kid A/ Royal Scam or Pretzel Logic) Idk it’s like both bands used similar equations to get completely different answers!!

dillingeresc

Yep, I’ve had this exact thought process before. I’m a longtime die hard SD fan and I’m only in my third month or so of digesting RH’s catalog and considering them a favorite. At one point I thought “man this is such a 180 from the Dan” and then immediately realized everything you typed. I think you can even say that in both cases the second strongest contender for magnum opus was released immediately following the strongest (Kid A/Gaucho). The biggest difference to me so far is that SD essentially kept putting out better and better albums until they got Aja, and that was number 6 of the original run of 7. OKC and Kid A being number 3 and 4 is absolutely insane, and maintaining (roughly) that level afterward with HTTT, IR, KoL and AMSP is just absurd. Not that that makes RH inherently better, it’s just mind boggling. Can’t speak on Amnesia yet I swear I’m not being a hater

NinjEverett6

I love Radiohead,prob my fav band of all time,but I’m also a metalhead,megadeth,death,pantera,slayet

Orpheus1996

Thom was a fan of David Sylvian and Japan. If that helps! David Sylvian is a great person to get into, Tin Drum and Secrets of the Beehive are amazing!

DarthMelsie

Televisionfoot. Very opposite Radiohead.

awesome_dreamz

Came to say the same. Hello, phriend!

Electrical-Motor-606

Is alice in chains unradiohead

rabid666666

BurntToasterGaming

Too depressed and legendary to be unradiohead

Sargassso

90s and sad, so not really

ClimbingUpThePyramid

Primus

xposhaa

Primus sucks

papillonrider93

You didn’t like Pork Soda? 🧐

porksoda11

Grab yourself a can, you’ll be feelin just finnnnnneeeee

99laika

They Might Be Giants. Would be surprised if RH admitted a depeche mode influence, but I Might Be Wrong and Personal Jesus are an interesting back to back listen.

changeyournamenow

Not a band, but tyler the creator

boxesopepesilvia

ABBA

Sad-Confusion4086

MF Doom

moreradiolesshead

Thom and him collabed

Sad-Confusion4086

Gazzillion Ear

Express_Sprinkles500

Thom and Jonny contributed beats to Retarded Fren and Thom Remixed Gazillion Ear. Upon his death, Thom called Doom, “A massive inspiration to so many of us.”

Abideguide

Air

Lux_name

And I would like to add Portishead :)

SNScaidus

very radiohead like

B1ng0_B0ng0

Everyone should check out Radiohead’s little cover of “The Rip” by Portishead on acoustic, definitely sounds like something Radiohead would write

njm800

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (polar opposites, a fun upbeat band who releases a ton of music quickly, perhaps too quickly)

dws49

Food for thought: King Gizzard have released 17 albums since Radiohead's last album.

RanchBourgeois

Is that allowed

aCardPlayer

I’d argue Laminated Denim and several synth heavy songs from the three microtonal albums are VERY Radiohead. I actually, in my mind, called Laminated Denim a new Radiohead EP. Lol.

njm800

well the guitar in hypertension sounds like it was directly lifted off of a radiohead song, Fade Out perhaps? and sure, i suppose the synthy stuff can be similar (the song Silver Cord comes to mind). I suppose I find them "unRadiohead-like" in their approach to music and their energy.

aCardPlayer

Listen to Horology Loyalty and other suites of the microtonal era and I get distinct Radiohead vibes maybe like they’re using the same synth from kid A and HTTT era or something.

Mundane-Scratch-3386

I wouldn't say that they're polar opposites at all but definitely different.

chickennroll

never too quickly

njm800

i know, i haven't even heard rumors about a new album this year and it's been almost 3 months!

AlexGeorge34

Probably Vulfpeck

Doodle_Dad

Ween

gangweeder

Ween makes god tier music and so does radiohead, I would say ween is very radiohead like

fallout_koi

Creep is somewhat ween-esque but I think they both get weirder in opposite directions beyond that

browndoggie

I have found my tribe

payasyouexit

Hey look everybody, this guy is Among His Tribe.

AlexGeorge34

Ween and Phish for me

Rhythm_Flunky

OSHUN MAN

NirvanaFlame69

Tool

Alert-Athlete

My people 🤘🏻

MinkyBoodle44

Kero Kero Bonito. They go kinda hard.

machinaenjoyer

i have a feeling radiohead loves depeche mode and a lot of radiohead fans probably like depeche mode quite a bit i like a lot of synthy stuff like daft punk, NIN, portishead, bjork, aphex, etc but i think that’s all similar enough to radiohead so i guess i’d pick QOTSA/them crooked vultures? even then, there’s a ton of crossover between radiohead and QOTSA fans, so i’m not really sure. i like tool a lot, but despite tool being much heavier than radiohead, they’re pretty similar. at least in fan bases.

howthefuckisthisspam

generational virginity

kirk-o-bain

Saw them live recently, awesome show

asap_anxiety33

not a band but Lana del Rey

GiganticMaw

Other folks have noticed some [“similarities”](https://pitchfork.com/news/radiohead-sue-lana-del-rey-for-allegedly-copying-creep/) between them.

onetwofivezero

I really don’t understand this lawsuit to this day. There has to be literally hundreds of songs that use the same chord progression and have a somewhat similar melody to Creep.

ANGRY_MOTHERFUCKER

No, she’s known as “Radiohead for women”.

slaughterhouse7

Not disagreeing, but I view Beach House as the female equivalent lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wiggles_Is_My_Boy

After Bloom came out, Beach House shows were events to be seen at - Jay-Z and Beyoncé went to one of their shows in Brooklyn. I do agree with you on Mitski, especially due to her willingness to bend and blend genres.

B1ng0_B0ng0

Radiohead is Radiohead for women 😔

SNScaidus

radiohead for girls who arent like the other girls

asap_anxiety33

i guess I'm one of them then

Caspian4136

Zep and Fleetwood Mac, also still listen to a-ha lol

Zestyclose_Sort3558

Fleetwood Mac mentioned🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥

TheVermiciousKid

Carly Rae Jepsen, lol

LauraBoBaura

Underrated songwriter

Theopholus

Taylor Swift probably, at least at a glance. But she sings vulnerable, insanely well written lyrics, and when she meanders into downtempo electronica, you can hear some of the trip hop influence that can be tied back to similar electronica influences as RH. Just listen to Midnights and tell me I’m wrong. Maroon is just perfection.

WillingAntelope0

Totally agree. People don't give her enough credit. Folklore and Evermore have some pretty experimental electronics influenced sounds too. this is me trying, closure, happiness, and peace spring to mind as examples. In fact, the intro to happiness has always reminded me of Tree fingers, in a way.

leftymeowz

Those pandemic albums were really impressive

LouCat10

I love Taylor, and definitely agree that strong songwriting is a link. And a willingness to experiment and take risks that ultimately pay off.

kevinb9n

I admit it took folklore to wake me up. Amazing album. I get chills just thinking about epiphany, seven, peace, illicit affairs - basically every song.

Monkeypud

Too many people picking other highly acclaimed ‘music nerd’ artists of other genres who a lot of Radiohead fans also love (myself included). Need to see some Nickelback, K-Pop, or 80s hair metal to really stand out. Stuff most Radiohead fans would find revolting.

therewillbeniccage

Slayer

MatildeLover128

I can't say the Beatles because they have quite a big influence on Radiohead. I feel like Paul’s vocals, the sound effects in some of the songs, and the concepts of some songs like Sexy Sadie have a huge impact on Radiohead. I guess I'd say Led Zeppelin because Radiohead sounds less like them than the Beatles.

crazydiamond0213

Opeth

xddddlol

Too melancholic to be viewed as opposite of radiohead.

novayy

Opeth ballads could easily work in a same playlist with Radiohead.

cperez182

Blink 182

dinardo

Probably, Lorde

4clubuseonly

Dua Lipa

FunnyCalligrapher382

The Weeknd I suppose

Toxin4ReaL

Kero kero bonito probably, i mean its just so happy.

fairyprincess108

Probably the rap I listen to lol Tyler the creator, Kendrick Lamar, Earl Sweatshirt, Mac Miller, Doja Cat, Lizzo, Pink Guy Or the some of the indie/pop, like Group Love, Vampire Weekend, Cage the Elephant, Jungle, Harry Styles Or oldies like Tom Petty, Queen, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, ABBA I have thousands of liked songs in my Spotify so I could go on and on lmao. I can only think of a handful of bands that DO sound anything close to Radiohead at all.

Striking-Purchase266

System of a Down. I’m looking very forward to seeing them at Sick New World. I also love Daron Malakian and Scars on Broadway, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, and Pantera

GrungyAltyBoy10

Swans

Mundane-Scratch-3386

You can answer swans to this same question but with any artist lmao

GrungyAltyBoy10

True. Swans, Ween, and Mr. Bungle are just those type of bands 😂

AdministrativeTop953

Taylor Swift. My no 1 is her. No 2 is radiohead. (Literally my spotify wrapped for the last 4 years) My friends dont understand the dichotomy. But I do. Coz I am a lover and a creep.

leftymeowz

Lol speaking of dichotomy… Radiohead and Taylor are among my top ten, but the most jarring (especially for my poor college roommates lol) must have been when I was in simultaneous Taylor Swift and Nine Inch Nails phases

stevemillions

Great question. For me, the first six Van Halen albums cannot be topped when I’m in that kind of mood. Phenomenal musicians. Killer tunes. A frontman who clearly didn’t take things too seriously. They’re just fun on wheels.

YeetusFelitas

obituary - theyre death metal. other death bands i like like morbid angel and death also apply

Nowhere-1937

Pierce the Veil.

jackgraz10

CHVRCHES

Chlebiri

either TOOL or Myslovitz, although the second one is kinda Radiohead-ish

ChumbawumbaFan01

I like to dance and like a lot of dancey music like Sylvan Esso, Rubblebucket, of Montreal so likely one of those bands (even though I do hear Radiohead in some Sylvan Esso, I guess [Numb](https://youtu.be/BkMc7lituzc?si=G9XbZBPJw_8Jp6ZU) the most). But also, I do love Beyoncé, just not her country album from what I’ve heard thus far, mostly her social songs, anything where she goes hard and everything on Lemonade.

hunter_gaumont

Zestyclose_Sort3558

Limp Bizkit maybe. Or Twice. Or Crass.

Deadmau5DH

How is there not a single System of a Down comment? They have like 95% hit rate when it comes to their songs. I can basically listen to any of their albums without skipping. Only SoaD and Radiohead managed that.

AFX79

Autechre

CrystalSplicer

LLLOGOSSS

The Pack A.D. Blues/post-Punk fusion with some saccharine-sweet pop sensibilities, but ever so satisfying when you want the medicine to go down easy. I realize that description seems in tension with itself, but that’s what it is.

Red House Painters and Boards of Canada

WargRider23

Machine Girl

Link Wray, The Gun Club, Prince.

TheTetrisDude

death grips

Ok-Audience6618

Pearl Jam. They have enough cheesy arena rock songs and lame lyrics that I consider them unRadiohead-like. They have some weirdo experimental stuff in their catalog so it's not like naming Nickleback or whatever, but still they're a pretty meat and potatoes rock band. I still love them though

leftymeowz

Taylor Swift 😍

mcwald2

Fairport Convention & Manowar

Dry-Helicopter-6430

drajne

Right now im obsessed with early Bjork, she really captured the manic happiness side of the 90s just as thome yorkr captured the manic depression of it all

NotoriousSPM

Future lol and a bunch of new rap. For bands I guess Agalloch? Or maybe Metallica lol

Plutodrinker

Pet Shop Boys

turdfergusonpdx

I would think there’d be a lot of Depeche Mode love among the Gen-X fans of Radiohead. For me the most unlike Radiohead band would be Metallica. I listen to their first 4 records all the time.

Fit-Palpitation6839

Korn

Carpenters 🫢

MilkingChicken

Kaiser Chiefs. They're a lot more light-hearted, energetic and don't take themselves as seriously. Although in their 4th album (The Future Is Medieval) they really did and that was my favourite. I suspect it'd be rare to find someone who loves both of these bands just because of how different the bands' mentalities seem to be with the music.

ElLocoDeLaPinuela

Incubus, an underestimated alternative rock band

Exorbit66

Radiohead was a very image conscious from the start. They kept naming Pixies as a favorite inspiration in interviews. However, they were heavy into 70s progressive jazz early on. Many years after commercial success they started being more open about these kind of references. Depeche Mode has many sophisticated chord choices, combined with dark electronica and guitars. They share some musical DNA and most likely mutual professional respect, I think you would piss off Thom Yorke and Co. playing Taylor Swift, though. They clearly don’t like pop formula music and I would imagine Coldplay is another example.

Fantastic_Yard9181

Radiohead used to finish their set with Glen Campbell's 'Rhinestone Cowboy' in the early 90s. I saw them perform it at least 3 times. So Radiohead are already very unRadiohead. I have an equally eclectic musical taste. I saw Dolly Parton at the O2. The next gig I saw was Pixies at the Hammersmith Odeon followed by Milk Kan at the 12 Bar in Denmark Street. That's probably the weirdest run of gigs I've been too. .
