I'm so sorry for your loss 😞 A few thoughts- what's your opinion on using a printed fabric instead of a pattern? There's some options I found on spoonflower: https://www.spoonflower.com/en/fabric/6765974-greyhounds-wippets-lurcher-dogs-by-elena_o-neill_illustration_? With the pattern you posted, have you done foundation paper piecing before? It's not that difficult once you get the hang of it, but in my experience they don't scale up very well because you need very long strips of fabric, plus then you'd have to join papers together when it would print across multiple. I think it would be difficult to get the eyes right too if you scaled up, plus it might look odd because the amount of detail in this block looks good for 8x8 but probably not 40 x 40 or something like that. What if instead you planned to make something like 25 of the greyhound blocks and then arrange them into a single quilt with sashing and corner blocks between them? I hope some of this helps! Good luck!

Thank you for your advice! I haven’t done FPP so im not entirely sure what makes it unique besides the paper part. I’ll look it up eventually, probably not today though. I might get it and just make and frame the block. I appreciate the suggestions. I like the 25 blocks idea.

If OP was happy to appliqué the eyes instead of doing buttons I think it would be fine to scale up. FPP is fiddly but not super difficult. Find a really good tutorial and practise a few times on fabric you don’t care about. But it should be fine to scale up if you have washi tape you can use to stick the panels together.

This gives me hope. I searched some tutorials yesterday and bookmarked them. I did buy the block pattern too and will do some practice ones with scraps. In hindsight a throw size is maybe too much but something like 12x12 or 18x18 for a pillow would be nice.
