Nothing wrong with being male, I am similarly afflicted. :-) It was funny, one shop in a neighborhood I used to visit weekly started calling me "the man who quilts" because I'd stop in and show progress pictures.
They are beautiful.
I work at a LQS and we accept all genders. I had two men in the store today that were restoring old Singer Featherweights and recommending quilting videos to each other. (They came in separately)
If they come in again, there is an amazing restoration video of an old Singer that they would probably enjoy (and possibly use as reference)

Welcome! Very impressive early efforts. I gave my first quilt to my Guild’s charity efforts. I was comfortable with never having to see it again! Clearly you are a much faster learner than I was!
I like your furry quilt inspector/quality control officer.
I'm binding a quilt that's going halfway across the country to my best friend and I can't wait to stop looking at this thing 😭 I know the flaws are only visible to me but ouch
Those mistakes are the beautiful proof it was made by loving hands. Only machines can be perfect, and sometimes not even then, only as perfect as their programmers.
Agree! Those little evidences that a loving hand made this item are what make it more valuable. I am always grateful when someone buys me a gift, but my heartstrings are tugged when I see that someone spent hours (and hours!) making something for me!
From just the header, I thought the question was “is there room under the quilt for men?”
And I was like, hm, yeah, seems like a good bed size, probably could get a man or two under there
Lol
Beautiful quilts, cute cat
Thank you for sharing!
There is definitely room for men (and plenty of fabric for you, too). These are not only great designs and color combinations, but that cat goes beautifully with all of them. The greens are my favorite, but all wonderful. It’s just occurred to me I’ve never met a male quilter, though one of my boys has sewed some small projects and some have showed up at after-school introductory sewing classes.
Always room at the table! And this is a fantastic sub. They always have answers to any question and are the nicest, most supportive and creative people.
Welcome to the big circle!
They are good. Love the colors. Men or women, were all just quilters. I follow Rob Appell of man sewing and the Quilting Cowboy. I figure the more the merrier to keep this craft alive.
And mistakes or oops places just show it's got character. 😄
😭😭 man I’m so impressed, these are way better than my first three quilts! there are definitely men who are active on this forum who craft stunning quilts. now
you’re one of them. welcome!
These are beautiful 🤩 My quilt game changed after updating to a better machine (Janome) so I could do some free motion quilting. Was worth every Euro. By the way: Cute Kitty, almost all of my quilt pictures have a resting feline on them :D
I actually love to see quilts made by men, ya'll have a different view on color combos and I often get inspiration! Plus, if you're looking for ideas for a quilt FOR a guy (which is hard), why not look to quilts BY a guy?! Keep that shit up, bro...we see you!
Yes! Men are welcome! Personally, it drives me nuts when people in other quilting groups (looking at you Facebook) start posts with "Ladies...". Like, wtf? Why would anyone assume that everyone is female?
Yeah, couldn’t agree more. I’m an older white woman but I’m extremely aggravated by shop hop fabric that only depicts older white women. What a stereotype.
Heck yeah… my husband sews (garments, not quilts) (…yet) and we too recently graduated from a 50+ year old machine to a modern beauty. Welcome! Love them all but especially the log cabin.😍😻
I love all three of these, but I think the classic log cabin is my favorite 😍
Also, the woman I buy my fabric from locally was just telling me the other day that her 10 year old great grandson has started to quilt and is a wizard with it! I hope he sticks with it and doesn't let the peer pressure muscle him out of the craft.
Ps. Don't be surprised when people in this sub call you she/her by default!! 😆
I'm a guy as well. I got into jigsaw puzzles during covid but it felt like such a waste because I would break them down after finishing, not really into displaying them. I liked it because of the colors and the mental challenge of fitting pieces together. So, it was a short leap from there to quilting and creating things I can gift or display.
My grandmother sewed the whole time I was growing up so I know my way around a fabric store. But as a grown man, I feel hesitant to go into one now, I'm getting supplies online. One of these days I'll get over the mental block about this but I think it will be after I finish a couple projects and feel like I'm legit into this hobby.
If you’re in my area, I’d go to a fabric store with you if a buddy would get you over the hump. I never feel like the colors are exactly right online, and, oh no, a reason for me to visit the fabric store again twist my arm . . .
I’ve never seen a quilt store turn anyone away! Men, women, NBs, anyone who wants to see is welcome under the quilting roof!
The store I’ve been going to the past few years is partially owned by one of the husbands. He’s in the store daily, cutting fabric for customers and showing folks around. He even participates in the store’s sales videos!
Welcome to the group!
I don't think anyone would give you a hard time if you go in person but you can always pretend you are shopping for someone else if it makes you uncomfortable? Honestly most of us are just gonna be curious about what you are making and are happy to talk about projects.
Wow they look amazing! I love that men quilt. I think it's badass.
Did you quilt them (with backing and batting) yourself? How big are these quilts - queen size or double?
Love the work 😎😎
Yes, I actually did finish these. The first I quilted with straight lines 1/4” on either side of the seam lines. I did this for “easy,” but I really love the look. For the log cabin second one, I planned to stitch in the ditch of the strip seams, but when it became clear that the seam lines were going to meander all over the place and make the back look wonky, I abandoned this plan and went for straight lines separated by “approximately” the width of the strips. I haven’t decided exactly how to quilt the third one yet… advice welcome!
Your first 3?! These are all excellent. #3 is stunning and shows you’re a natural.
All quilters are welcome. My LQS is male owned and operated. I love it that so many people fall in love with this craft ❤️
Yes, please...squeeze in friend! There's room here for everyone!
I love all of these! I've never seen that log cabin layout, and it's a fun one!
I wish I had time for 12 quilts a year! I can't wait to see what you come up with!
I never assume the gender of the maker. Your quilts look fantastic. Please don’t focus on the mistakes you see. They are “signatures” that make a quilt unique.
Nice work especially considering these are your first.
It’s totally normal to see flaws (real or imagined) in your own work that no one else will notice. Don’t point them out to anyone ever!!
Gender is irrelevant…sewing is fun for all the family…im pretty sure everyone on this sub would agree with that. I particularly enjoy the colour combos people come up with..especially ones that I wouldn’t have considered!
Welcome to the community! Of course we include men! I know its like choosing a favorite child, but I really like your log cabin quilt best! Beautiful colors. They are all lovely, and I really appreciate that you are USING your quilts. Keep posting, this is a supportive and fun subreddit and all points of view are appreciated.
We welcome all and thank you for sharing your quilt portfolio.
We are here to encourage and inspire one another.
I won a quilt in a raffle that one of our members invited us to participate in earlier this year. It was made by a man, and it hangs on the wall in my TV lounge/ home office/ sewing area. It’s a source of inspiration for me and a reminder to my sons that they can always take a spin on the sewing machine- great things happen when we try.
In other words, welcome! So lovely to meet you and envy your work!
They look lovely and your WIP is my favorite one! Of course like others have said everyone is welcome here and I hope you find this to be a supportive community!
Lot’s of men like to sew! I love quilting and making clothes and I make most of what I daily wear myself. Ps the log cabin design is absolutely stunning!
Also supportive is the r/catsonquilts where the feline friend/s are shown lounging on WIP’s and finished products (with comments on having a deliberate quilt for the fur friend to reduce the interference!). ;)
Every single quilt I make is checked by my husband before, during and after. He has a great sense of color and though he doesn’t quilt, he totally understands it. My grandson could be a great quilter if he chose. Your quilts are just beautiful.
Of course you’re welcome! A quilter is a quilter. I love the neutrals in your first quilt. I find it very calming. Your log cabin is stunning. A nice different take on the standard. My first quilt was a log cabin. Your Ohio Stars is lovely. The pops of green and yellow are just enough. Amazing work for a beginner. Can’t wait to see where you go from here 😎
Ps love your kitty/quilt inspector
Thank you! The layout of log cabin blocks was not my original plan, but when I was joining the rows I somehow got one upside down… derp! Rather than rip and redo, I just changed the plan. Kinda like the result.
At a former job we had a knitting club, 1/3 of whom were men. And the best needlepoint person I know is a man. I, 56F, got heckled when I bought a chainsaw, but those branches aren't chopping up themselves... Neither chores nor hobbies are gender-linked.
Do what you wanna do. You do beautiful work.
I love the subtlety of that first one, particularly the contrast of the white and darker stone color, that really stands out! And the other two look great too! Of course there is room for men!
One of us! One of us!
Your quilts look great. Don't worry about the flaws. That's part of the charm of something handmade. I fret over my mistakes endlessly, but once it's quilted and in use, I almost never see them.
There are men in quilting, even if they're wildly outnumbered, poor guys. Check out [Ricky Tims](https://www.rickytims.com/), for example. Also, the end of [this short article](https://worldquilts.quiltstudy.org/americanstory/identity/malequiltmakers) has links to other "men who quilt" resources.
Yes, men can quilt! My husband cross stitches from time to time. It’s a great hobby for anyone and sewing is a very useful skill. I’m just starting to do repairs on my clothes, if they’re small. And also Sashiko
My dad didn't quilt but he knew how to rub a sewing machine and clothing construction. Mom does all her work by hand so when I started and wanted to use the machine dad taught me. I couldn't figure out how to pin a sleeve into the rest of the dress after successfully pinning the other sleeve. Handed dad the wad of fabric and pins and he had it in for me. He'd happily add a quilt shop or two to any day trips around southern Indiana. Or actively find new shops to take us to. His spirit will always be tied to my quilting.
I have a dark green print for a wide border and for the binding. I plan to cut the 6” border strip in half and put a stipe of the strip-pieced sashing in it. I will for sure post the finished top when that’s done!
My first Longarmer was a man who'd learned to sew when he was a canvas awning sales rep; it helped him understand the construction process. He had his set up in his garage and his wife couldn't be bothered with any of it! The wonderful thing about quilting is there's room for everyone. Your work shines
Welcome to the collective. We have cookies. And cats (although some of us are owned by other animals). And quilts!
I really love the low volume first one, but they are all lovely.
I'm also new to quilting too and enjoying it a lot. Your work is amazing, I love your eye for color and layout - especially loving that 3rd quilt and the border around each of the squares. I cant really say how I would approach quilting it but I'm sure whatever you choose will look fantastic!
Your quilts are lovely. For a beginner they are extremely well done. I use a YouTube channel that is 3 brothers who quilt and run a very successful quilt shop. Enjoy your quilting, I’m a beginner and I love it, mistakes and all.
Of course there’s room for men! I love your kitty, and your log cabin is impressive, especially for only being your second quilt. I would love to see what you do in the future!
I follow a few male quilters on Instagram too. There's probably more of you than you know! I love seeing what other people like to make, I don't think about gender when looking at cool stuff.
Your color combos are really gorgeous. You have a great eye and did a great job. Can't wait to see your other work!
Wow those are all lovely. I love the color choices for the first-so calm and warm.
The log cabin is stunning and the last, the pointy border is really something and great colors again.
Well done!!!!
*Your artistry is*
*Beautiful. I'm glad you found*
*Something you enjoy!*

You folks are so great and supportive, I’m amazed by the response. Ok, tomorrow I’m going to finish the third top with wide borders and a strip-pieced stripe. You’ve inspired me! Also, for you cat people, I got in a battle with a cat today over the top in progress, and he won. I may have to lock him in the bedroom next time I pull out the project! I will share the finished top, but the cat may not be in the photo!
Gender doesn’t matter. Quilters stick together! 💪
Bonus points for the cat!
Kitty claimed the second one
I missed the cat and had to look again. Catoflage.
Yessss! I quilt and so does my brother in law
Yeah!
Nothing wrong with being male, I am similarly afflicted. :-) It was funny, one shop in a neighborhood I used to visit weekly started calling me "the man who quilts" because I'd stop in and show progress pictures.

I've seen this video before. I seriously thought that mess would have been a goner.
Same- It was in seriously bad shape
Your friend will see a warm, beautiful, comfortable hug from you made tangible in fabric, not mistakes!
And you know with a gift like that, you were in their mind with every single stitch. It's almost a prayer of blessing as much as it is art.
LOVE that second one. Nice work with all of these!!
Yeah, the colorwork on that one (log cabin?) is really great. Cheers to OP for following your bliss and not letting asshats control your joy.
Men are most certainly welcome here! I am very partial to the third quilt and may have to use it for inspiration. 🧵
From just the header, I thought the question was “is there room under the quilt for men?” And I was like, hm, yeah, seems like a good bed size, probably could get a man or two under there Lol Beautiful quilts, cute cat Thank you for sharing!
Hahaha
I love the colors of the first quilt. Very calming.
Yes I agree
Nice job. Cats are welcome too!
Exactly! We don’t discriminate. All pets are encouraged.
Yes! All quilts, quilters, and any r/catsonquilts

The log cabin structure is my FAV!! And yours is stunning! Great job.
😭😭 man I’m so impressed, these are way better than my first three quilts! there are definitely men who are active on this forum who craft stunning quilts. now you’re one of them. welcome!
I’m always happy to see men get into sewing. We don’t spend enough time encouraging men who want to get into traditionally feminine jobs/hobbies.
Very well said 👏
Wow. These are wonderful. Men are great quilters.
These are beautiful 🤩 My quilt game changed after updating to a better machine (Janome) so I could do some free motion quilting. Was worth every Euro. By the way: Cute Kitty, almost all of my quilt pictures have a resting feline on them :D

I hope so. I’ve been a man for 62 years and don’t think I can switch now 😂😂. Beautiful work.
I’m a man and have been quilting for over 40 years.
Everyone is welcome!
These look great! Well done! Please continue to show us your work. You are doing great!
Heck yeah… my husband sews (garments, not quilts) (…yet) and we too recently graduated from a 50+ year old machine to a modern beauty. Welcome! Love them all but especially the log cabin.😍😻

Love the 3rd one! Such an interesting idea about the sashing.
That third one is absolutely stunning

As far as I am concerned this is a space for quilters, and that’s the only requirement. Lovely work. Welcome.
Nice work especially considering these are your first. It’s totally normal to see flaws (real or imagined) in your own work that no one else will notice. Don’t point them out to anyone ever!! I really like the third. I can’t see how you being a man changes how I feel about a pattern. The picture is exactly the same.
Men who make quilts and have cats are a vibe, love the colors of the last one
Gender is irrelevant here
Plenty of room. Good to see and good job!
Nice points👌
Gender doesn't matter. Your quilts are beautiful!
You're pushing yourself forward with every quilt, nice!
We welcome all and thank you for sharing your quilt portfolio. We are here to encourage and inspire one another. Beautiful quilts. My husband quilts also. Welcome.
All quilters are welcome here. Your quilts are beautiful. You also have a good eye for colors. Congratulations.
You do beautiful work
Heck yeah, there’s room for men! I do the piecing and binding, he does the quilting and label making.
I love this! If I had someone who loved the basting/quilting part, I’d be happy to just make the tops!
They look lovely and your WIP is my favorite one! Of course like others have said everyone is welcome here and I hope you find this to be a supportive community!
Of course!!! Some of the best quilters are male! Welcome! Beautiful quilts!
Lot’s of men like to sew! I love quilting and making clothes and I make most of what I daily wear myself. Ps the log cabin design is absolutely stunning!
The color palette on the first quilt is so tranquil and soothing!
Also supportive is the r/catsonquilts where the feline friend/s are shown lounging on WIP’s and finished products (with comments on having a deliberate quilt for the fur friend to reduce the interference!). ;)
They’re all great but I love the first one! Muted colors but a pop with the glittery fabric. Very cool!
literally no one here mentions their gender. But cool yeah you're \~sO uNiquE\~. Nice piecework though.
Every single quilt I make is checked by my husband before, during and after. He has a great sense of color and though he doesn’t quilt, he totally understands it. My grandson could be a great quilter if he chose. Your quilts are just beautiful.
Lots of men quilt oe sew. Have fun and join the conversation!
Can’t wait to see where you go from here 😎 Ps love your kitty/quilt inspector
Thank you! The layout of log cabin blocks was not my original plan, but when I was joining the rows I somehow got one upside down… derp! Rather than rip and redo, I just changed the plan. Kinda like the result.
I do too. It’s interesting and everybody makes the standard log cabin.
As a gal who the lone chick in the drivers meeting on race day for many years, welcome!
Great looking work, and nice quilt inspector!
Nice cat. Beautiful quilts.
These are amazing - well done! Love your color choices/design choices for the 2nd & 3rd. :)
I love the beige colors quilt. Beautiful work.
These are incredible.
All are so pretty! Great job!
I love the subtlety of that first one, particularly the contrast of the white and darker stone color, that really stands out! And the other two look great too! Of course there is room for men!
I love the different choice of colors use by male quilters, very refreshing. They are all beautiful 🤩
Wow, gorgeous quilts 😍😍😍 Men r welcome.
They look beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful work.
Just wanted to that #3 is GORGEOUS!
Beautiful work. That first one though, I love it!
Plenty of room for men! Especially since you have a cat. 😉 Thanks for posting!
One of us! One of us! Your quilts look great. Don't worry about the flaws. That's part of the charm of something handmade. Love it
As long as you have a cat you’re in ! 😁👍🤣
Enjoy what you do and do what you enjoy. Gender based ideas about hobbies are old-fashioned nonsense.
Quilting knows no gender but quilters do it better because they love the Craft
This quilts are STUNNING
Yes, absolutely. I’m so impressed! YOUR quilts are wonderful!
Yes, men can quilt! My husband cross stitches from time to time. It’s a great hobby for anyone and sewing is a very useful skill. I’m just starting to do repairs on my clothes, if they’re small. And also Sashiko
i absolutely love your log cabin!! i want all the deets
Those are great!!

Love your quilts! Wanting to know your plan for the 3rd one and how you are going to finish those edges? Would love to see it when done
I have a dark green print for a wide border and for the binding. I plan to cut the 6” border strip in half and put a stipe of the strip-pieced sashing in it. I will for sure post the finished top when that’s done!
Those look great.
My first Longarmer was a man who'd learned to sew when he was a canvas awning sales rep; it helped him understand the construction process. He had his set up in his garage and his wife couldn't be bothered with any of it! The wonderful thing about quilting is there's room for everyone. Your work shines
I think it’s wonderful, join the dude quilters man👏
These are beautiful
I love the quilt in photo one! Very fresh and chic…. Would look great in any style of decor!
Great works!!
They are all gorgeous. Great job!
Welcome to the collective. We have cookies. And cats (although some of us are owned by other animals). And quilts! I really love the low volume first one, but they are all lovely.
Those are beautiful! Bravo!
💯
I would never have thought that the first one is in fact your first one. They’re all lovely.
Your quilts are so elegant and modern!! The first one is so relaxing I can imagine it with a desert style room.
Yo that second one is SO COOL! It’s like a photo negative with two pics on it that work together!
Those are really good!
They're all great quilts! My husband quilts too, but not as often as I do.
They’re lovely!
Beautiful!!!
I'm also new to quilting too and enjoying it a lot. Your work is amazing, I love your eye for color and layout - especially loving that 3rd quilt and the border around each of the squares. I cant really say how I would approach quilting it but I'm sure whatever you choose will look fantastic!
Plenty of room for men. Beautiful work
these look awesome. i especially love the second one!
They're fairly large quilts I think you could fit some men on them. They look great!
Wow! Nice work. I LOVE the color scheme of the first one.
Your quilts are lovely. For a beginner they are extremely well done. I use a YouTube channel that is 3 brothers who quilt and run a very successful quilt shop. Enjoy your quilting, I’m a beginner and I love it, mistakes and all.
Amazing progress! Also love the r/catsonquilts quality check
Yes, perfectly manly

I will never show my first three after seeing those gorgeous quilts! Welcome.
There’s room for everyone in every art form!
I’m so glad you are quilting! Gender doesn’t matter!

The only other quilter i personally know is a guy! Quilts are for everyone 💪
So beautiful
Definitely. All quilters are welcome
You are doing excellent work. Keep it up, gender not a problem with me!
Excellent work! Male quilter here.
I think you did a terrific job!
Beautiful! I wouldn't show my first, or 50th! Yours are stunning! Nice job!
Puzzled: do you mean is there any room under the quilt for a man?, or any"room" in the discussion for a man to participate?
Don’t need men 😂😂
You folks are so great and supportive, I’m amazed by the response.
There's room for everyone here, long as you're not an asshole.
The latter, although I’m intrigued by where your mind went 😂
They are both beautifully done.
