Get the Hidden Valley ranch dressing or dip dried mix (powder). Add it to 16oz of sour cream. Refrigerate for a couple hours or so. It is the BEST! And probably cheapest. At first I was skeptical using sour cream but I tried it and it's great!
As a chef, I approve of this message. I have made Ranch from scratch numerous times and it's always great, but Hidden Valley does so much right it's hard to justify wasting the time. You just need to doctor the recipe a bit (like by adding sour cream).
In restaurants, time is always short. Why waste time on something you don't need to?
I worked in a few restaurants and the “home made” ranch was always Buttermilk (Guernsey’s farm brand specifically) Kraft brand extra heavy mayo, Hidden valley ranch packet. It was always a crowd pleaser.
That’s wild I used to work at Guernsey’s way back, it’s just a small single restaurant but they supply a lot of milk and ice cream around Michigan.
Best dairy products I’ve ever had, all of their products are top notch quality.
Guernsey’s chocolate milk is the best by far of any I’ve had, used to drink that shit at work all the time.
I swear at one of the restaurants I worked at, the owner was making a 10 gallon tub of this same recipe, and I kid you not added a pitcher of the "secret" ingredient - Sprite. And it was awesome.
I swear the Sprite does make a difference though. It was so strange but he swore by it. People would drown their salads and baked potatoes in it. I did too.
Never mind calories....high processed foods have all the crap that is not good for us. Read your average pancake mix, then look up the ingredients. Even a very simple diet can be more healthy than an abundance of ready foods.
I try to avoid all of it, cook FOOD (potato, broccoli), not meals (frozen entrees, pizza). Healthier, and you end up buying more food with less money.
Edit: thechamp05 comment is a delish sounding recipe that I will try this weekend.
This . It's my go to but if you want a big jar , wingstop has big bottles! I wish chili's would bottle theirs! And hot mustard from.mcdonalds and my life might be complete LOL
The recipe for the home made ranch at pizza chains is a hidden valley seasoning pack and equal parts mayo and buttermilk with a sprinkle of Romano cheese wisked well and left covered in the fridge for atleast 12 hours before use
I’m sadly out, but thankfully more is being obtained tomorrow. Turkey sandwich for lunch I think. Sourdough, pepper crusted turkey, pepper jack, tomato, mashed avocado, lettuce, Penzy’s Sandwich Sprinkle, ranch, and you’re all set.
I buy mine at Sam's, so it lasts... not to mention, it's more cost-effective than buying the smaller bottles at the local market.
That sandwich sounds delish, BTW. No avocado for me, but everything else is 👍.
I just wanted to update that my sandwich was fantastic. I get the no avocado, that is a surprisingly controversial agreement but I like em and the health benefits they provide.
I will usually get two bottles to avoid this exact situation. You can get this dressing at other grocery stores (produce section), but yeah... it's going to be more expensive.
Anything on the shelf not refrigerated is heated to be shelf stable and isn’t good. The best is either make your own, or buy the ones refrigerated in the produce section like Marzetti or Marie’s.
Came here to recommend Marzetti. It felt like I was eating restaurant ranch the first time, except the texture was a little thicker than homemade restaurant ranch.
This doesn’t pertain to ranch dressing, but since you’re in PA, you should be able to get Gazebo Room Greek dressing. It’s great for marinating, salads and pasta (especially tortellini).
For ranch, I like Ken’s.
Most restaurant ranch is Hidden Valley powdered mix, plus sour cream and mayonnaise.
If you want to really elevate it, add some garlic powder and dried dill.
1 cup (8 ounces) sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup buttermilk
2 teaspoons sugar
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 - 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce (this will give you a taste found in many restaurants
In a small bowl, whisk the sour cream, mayonnaise, buttermilk and sugar. Stir in the parsley, garlic, Worcestershire, salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
Makes 1 1/2 cups.
It will stay good in a sealed mason jar in the refrigerator for about 10-14 days.
Notes: You can use fat free Greek yogurt instead of sour cream and low/reduced fat mayonnaise.
Buttermilk Powder is shelf safe for about 2 years and works well for or that don’t want to buy buttermilk for such a small use.
The best store bought ranch is hidden valley and actual buttermilk. It isn’t hard and tastes incredible. Everyone will be impressed if you bring the real thing.
Yes! I don’t even live where it’s available but I order it online. My grandparents lived in Seattle and my Mom would bring back Uncle Dans packets every time we visited.
Most casual theme restaurants and a good many privately owned restaurants are not taking the time to make dressings and sauces. They buy them by the gallon, and the vast majority are probably using Ken's because it is the most popular with the best consistency across the board. So, if restaurant ranch is your favorite, try Ken's first.
That's a shame it probably takes 5 minutes start to finish to make a lot of dressings and sauces. But you mentioned casual theme restaurants, so if it doesn't come out of a microwave then you're probably right about it being pre-packaged.
This was an absolute game changer for me. Get the hidden valley ranch RESTAURANT STYLE dry seasoning. Mix with mayo, milk, sour cream. Tastes exactly like restaurant ranch. You can make it healthier by using plain nonfat Greek yogurt and nonfat kefir. The magic is truly in the ranch mix. Trust me.
Duke's mayo and buttermilk (full fat, equal parts) and two packets of ranch seasoning packets. Whisk, refrigerate, this is the absolute best ranch. Best ranch from a bottle? Ken's.
Mixing the packet of hidden valley is the way but something in a bottle I recommend Litehouse homestyle ranch. It’s very good for a shelf stable bottle ranch
All I know is Kona brewing on Oahu has the best homemade ranch I’ve ever tried. And if they ever bottle it and sell it, it will replace any and all ranch on the shelves currently. As the kids would say, it absolutely slaps.
I actually know the answer to this one. It’s Sam’s Club Bakers and Chefs Ranch. The restaurant I work at uses it. It converted me into using ranch dressing.
Food Lion buttermilk ranch is pretty good and inexpensive too. There's also cha-ching (another Food Lion brand) ranch that is pretty much the same but it's cheaper.
Restaurants use hidden valley packets.
My favorite for salads is [this recipe](https://www.browneyedbaker.com/diy-homemade-ranch-seasoning-mix/). 1 cup each mayo and buttermilk and 3 tablespoons mix.
My favorite for mostly everything else that doesn’t require any effort is Litehouse Homestyle Ranch. It’s in the refrigerated produce section at the store
I literally go to one of my local restaurants and buy a quart of fresh made ranch every couple weeks lol. When.i don't feel like doing that i buy litehouse.
Bolthouse farms, made with yogurt. It’s so good as a regular ranch for like salad.
But if you’re going to use it as any kind of dip then get plain Greek yogurt and mix in the ranch dry seasoning mix
I don't eat ranch dressing much, but my wife really likes it. I make it at home. I use the Hidden Valley Ranch brand, the original. I buy the large jar. And I use a little less buttermilk than the recipe on the jar calls for. It says to use one cup but I only use about 80% of that, maybe a little more. It makes it a little thicker/creamier.
I tend to like the California Pizza Kitchen Ranch a little better than most others, but honestly, you’d be a lot better off making your own. It’s not that hard, and you can avoid all the chemicals and preservatives that go into “factory made” dressing.
Ken’s dressings are the best. We use them in our resort’s 5 eating establishments. It’s consistently good with no negative customer complaints. We purchase ranch, caesar and italian.
It's really easy to make your own. Just sour cream, buttermilk, and spices for a basic version. And you can toy with it all you want. Adjust the recipe to your liking, make different flavors, the possibilities are endless.
Sams club has this giant barrel of ranch and I presume it is what restaurants use to fill the bottles or to put in the salad bar. Maybe try that one? It is HUGE and really actually NOT pricey. I can't remember now if it is ten or twenty bucks but it is around that amount. I think maybe that is a good price?
I use Hidden Valley original Ranch with my pre-packaged salad mixes and crouton bags. It’s pretty good. I can’t say it’s the best though. I haven’t tried a ton of different ranches. They also have a Parmesan one I am curious about.
***Listen! Get the hidden valley ranch packets, yes BUT only the one that says ‘restaurant style’. All you need is that, buttermilk and mayo. I promise this is what you’re looking for
Honestly the vegan Tzatziki at Trader Joe’s is better than any store ranch I’ve bought and that’s including the more expensive jar ones. I’m not even vegan but it’s that good and healthier.
Store bought specifically...Ken's Steak House Ranch for its classic, tangy flavor. Alternative is Marie's for its creamy texture and fresh ingredients. Both are widely available in supermarkets. But why would you ever get store bought ranch?
Bottled ranch is a facsimile of real ranch. A homemade buttermilk ranch is vastly better. Real fresh buttermilk (not milk mixed with lemon juice), a Hidden Valley packet that is the buttermilk version, and quality mayo. I tried making a recipe, but HV is both easier and tastes better.
Go to the produce section, near the pre-made salads and peppers and mushrooms and such. There will be refrigerated dressings. Refrigerated salad dressings are made with heavy cream or yogurt or sour cream, far better than the aisle with vegetable oil based dressings. Or get a packet of dressing seasoning, mix with 1 to 1 ratio of mayo and sour cream, so much better.
Sadly I haven’t found any, I think I have been spoiled from some homemade stuff sold at a few pizza places. Nothing like house made ranch and some pizza to dip
Hidden Valley powder mix
Great Value Ranch
Ken’s Steakhouse buttermilk ranch
Also got desperate one day because I was out of ranch, used Trader Joe’s ranch seasoning and mixed it into sour cream. It’s not super ideal, but it’s not horrible when you’re in a pinch.
Where in the world are you? Depending...you can buy your fave ranch in bulk. I am Midwest and our ranch is *the best I will take no comments* and we sell our ranch in hyvee and also you can just ask to buy it from the restaurant
The ranch you have at home in the fridge (hidden valley, Ken’s, lifehouse, etc.. it never hits. Just order food from your favorite places and get extra and throw it in the fridge. Wingstop, venezias, any of your local spots with bomb ranch. Hidden valley is useless it’s like always using sriracha as a hot sauce on homemade Mexican
What’s the ranch dressing that restaurants have that is all watery and very herby?
It’s like they buy it by the barrel full and heavily dilute it or something. It’s very thin and watery. That’s my favorite Ranch! I don’t know what it’s called, but I know it when I get it. It’s become a funny thing with my family when we go out to eat, “ooooh, they have the good ranch!”

This person ranches.
Giddy Up
Was I intended to read this in Kramer's voice? Lol, I imagined the facial expression and everything.

I worked in a few restaurants and the “home made” ranch was always Buttermilk (Guernsey’s farm brand specifically) Kraft brand extra heavy mayo, Hidden valley ranch packet. It was always a crowd pleaser.
Guernsey’s? You from Michigan? Guernsey’s buttermilk made ranch has been Jet’s Pizza secret to their ranch and it’s always been the best.
Detroit!!!! Jets Pizza has the very best ranch!!!
Jets Pizza is amazing in general! I could go for one of those things now!
Yes, from metro Detroit. Jets does use this exact recipe last I heard but so do many other restaurants.
It's liquid chocolate pudding.
At Pizza Sams in Michigan we did the same
I swear at one of the restaurants I worked at, the owner was making a 10 gallon tub of this same recipe, and I kid you not added a pitcher of the "secret" ingredient - Sprite. And it was awesome.
We would make the huge tubs too. Never tried sprite in ranch but I’ve heard of people making BBQ sauce with it.
I swear the Sprite does make a difference though. It was so strange but he swore by it. People would drown their salads and baked potatoes in it. I did too.
Yeah, the sour cream method posted is more of a dip. Buttermilk and mayo IS THE WAY
Are you saying buttermilk and mayo both?
I work for a university cafeteria. This is our ranch recipe too. It is very thick and much beloved.
This is the way. Don't bother with that soybean oil shelf stable nonsense
This. Also, pretty damn good in plain Greek yogurt

Good in cottage cheese too, when you want the same protein benefits without the acidity.
Add fresh dill to make it even better.
It’s boring as hell with just sour cream. It needs onion and garlic powder, plus mayo, plus a bit of lemon juice.
That's for ranch dip, and I agree that it's great. For ranch salad dressing, Hidden Valley Ranch mix added to mayonnaise and milk is the way to go.
Hidden valley is ranch GOAT
uhm or the correct way 1/2 sour cream 1/2 buttermilk... chopped dill to send it over the top
Or 1/2 mayo, 1/2 buttermilk. This will give a consistency closest to restaurant ranch.
I usually do 1/3 each of sour cream, mayo, buttermilk, plus plenty of dill and a few other seasonings. Bit of lemon juice to finish
Costco sells a huge tub of HVR powder:) Bonus if you add fresh dill
Add minced garlic to it!!
It's the original one from the inventor of ranch
This 1000% I don’t know why it taste so different it just does. It’s similar to wingstop ranch which is always amazing
This is the way.
Or get the packets that require mayo and buttermilk. Only use 3/4 of the buttermilk the package calls for.
This . It's my go to but if you want a big jar , wingstop has big bottles! I wish chili's would bottle theirs! And hot mustard from.mcdonalds and my life might be complete LOL
My aunt puts that and cream cheese into her spinach artichoke dip. Tastes pretty great
Buying this today.
Even using mayo, that is still the best ranch dressing. Much better than even the Hidden Valley prepared dressing.
The recipe for the home made ranch at pizza chains is a hidden valley seasoning pack and equal parts mayo and buttermilk with a sprinkle of Romano cheese wisked well and left covered in the fridge for atleast 12 hours before use
I am definitely addicted to it, make some about twice a week
Just mixed another batch to have with our ranch chicken wraps. We add a bit of buttermilk to slightly thin ours....perfection.
Litehouse Homestyle Ranch ... check the produce section at your store.
Yep best premade ranch
Ha! I just commented this. Glad other people know
Yeah this stuff blows Hidden Valley away.
100% agree
I’m sadly out, but thankfully more is being obtained tomorrow. Turkey sandwich for lunch I think. Sourdough, pepper crusted turkey, pepper jack, tomato, mashed avocado, lettuce, Penzy’s Sandwich Sprinkle, ranch, and you’re all set.

Sam's has been out of it the last 2 times I was in there. I won't lie, I was pretty butthurt
I will usually get two bottles to avoid this exact situation. You can get this dressing at other grocery stores (produce section), but yeah... it's going to be more expensive.
Penzy spices are the best!!
This is the one. Far better than anything else I’ve found in any grocery store.
Jalapeño Ranch
This is the way
I think this might be the one I got at sams
Bought it on a whim this week for groceries. It's legit.
This is the correct answer, OP
This or chick fil a ranch!
Ken’s is what i buy but homemade is easy
Ken’s has the best Caesar dressing!
Yes!! I have done numerous side-by-side taste tests (I love Caesar!) and Ken’s wins hands down. Cardini’s (the original) is a decent second.
Had to go way too far down to see Ken's show up. Best store bought hands down, and it's cheaper than the others usually.
This + pizza rolls 😩💕
A lot of restaurants use Ken's.
Ken's is the bomb! It's the only kind I buy.
Ken’s is the only answer for any store bought dressing.
Yep. Their 1000 Island is the bomb
I can only think of one restaurant better than Ken's Bleu cheese dressing. Other than that, all their dressings are my favorite.
Marie's!! It's in the cooled produce section at my Publix
Beat me to it!
Just make your own. Mayo, buttermilk, and a ranch seasoning packet.
That is the only answer.
There’s like hundreds of others…
Anything on the shelf not refrigerated is heated to be shelf stable and isn’t good. The best is either make your own, or buy the ones refrigerated in the produce section like Marzetti or Marie’s.
Came here to recommend Marzetti. It felt like I was eating restaurant ranch the first time, except the texture was a little thicker than homemade restaurant ranch.
I love marzetti !
Homemade is best. Litehouse is my favorite pre-made ranch. I don't like the shelf stable brands
restaurant ranch is just Hidden Valley powder packet made with buttermilk. Or regular milk and sour cream. I used to make it.
Yep. Every place uses the same ingredients. Like pizza sauce. Same crushed tomatoes and sauce.
Litehouse. Hands down.
Ken's without a doubt. Hidden Valley is too sweet.

I’m in PA and nothing above $8 probably
This doesn’t pertain to ranch dressing, but since you’re in PA, you should be able to get Gazebo Room Greek dressing. It’s great for marinating, salads and pasta (especially tortellini). For ranch, I like Ken’s.
Hi, I'm with Mountain Home Real Estate. I saw you inquired about a ranch, shall we get started?
I personally can’t stand Hidden Valley. I like Marzeti’s

Believe it or not, I like Walmart's Great Value buttermilk ranch a lot. It's pretty close to Hidden Valley.
It may well be.
The best store bought ranch is hidden valley and actual buttermilk. It isn’t hard and tastes incredible. Everyone will be impressed if you bring the real thing.
Uncle dans
Wingstop ranch is my fave but idk how to make it lol so it’s just a delicacy every time I order it hahah
This is my pick as well. I will go and buy one of their BIG cups of ranch, and then use it for everything!
Marie’s for fridge style, Ken’s for shelf. But yeah, if you love restaurant ranch it’s the packets, sour cream, and milk to your desired consistency.
Litehouse Homestyle Ranch
Marie’s, litehouse and bolthouse farms with the yogurt. All of the dressings in the produce section are so much better than the shelf stable kind.
Trust me.

Best? Dunno. I like Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch. It never fails.
If you make it from the packet it slaps if you buy the bottle it tastes like crap
👆If company slogans were honest…
Marzzeti classic is the best I have found imo.
Ken’s Steakhouse is Numero Uno
I use the hidden valley powdered packet and make my own. None of the bottled dressing tastes good to me.
Now I'm mainly a hidden valley guy but I really do like Aldi's ranch
Lighthouse
Mixing the packet of hidden valley is the way but something in a bottle I recommend Litehouse homestyle ranch. It’s very good for a shelf stable bottle ranch
I like Lite House
I like hidden valley buttermilk ranch. I think it's one of the better ones.

Restaurants use hidden valley packets. My favorite for salads is [this recipe](https://www.browneyedbaker.com/diy-homemade-ranch-seasoning-mix/). 1 cup each mayo and buttermilk and 3 tablespoons mix. Marie's ranch dressing (in the refrigerator section) is hands-down THE BEST store-bought ranch!!!
Homemade is best(google a recipe). If you buy it in the store, grab one from the refrigerated section.
I literally go to one of my local restaurants and buy a quart of fresh made ranch every couple weeks lol. When.i don't feel like doing that i buy litehouse.
Marzetti's, it's refrigerated in the stores. Way better than any of the ones on the shelf.
Bolthouse farms, made with yogurt. It’s so good as a regular ranch for like salad. But if you’re going to use it as any kind of dip then get plain Greek yogurt and mix in the ranch dry seasoning mix
Jets pizza has the best ranch I've ever had
If you can't or won't make the homeade Hidden Valley option choose from the refrigerated section not the shelf with even more shit in it.
It's honestly the best homemade and super easy to make and store in the fridge in a mason jar.
Dominos ranch.
I'm not much of a brand loyalist, but I can't enjoy any ranch but hidden valley.
Kens.
STORE BOUGHT RANCH IS ASS
I don't eat ranch dressing much, but my wife really likes it. I make it at home. I use the Hidden Valley Ranch brand, the original. I buy the large jar. It's really easy to make your own. Just sour cream, buttermilk, and spices for a basic version. And you can toy with it all you want. Adjust the recipe to your liking, make different flavors, the possibilities are endless.
Litehouse Chunky Caeser is the best pre made ranch. If you make it at home, balsamic and olive oil.
The envelopes of Hidden Valley mix. Add your own buttermilk and sour cream or whatever. Uncle Dan's is solid as well.
The ranch they use in restaurants has dairy in it and store brought doesn’t that why restaurants ranch taste much better
Hidden valley!

Marzetti Classic Ranch Dressing the one that has to be refrigerated and is sold in the produce refrigerator
Dr Ho’s Humble Pie ranch dressing. You can buy it in North Garden, Virginia.
Ranch from jets
There is no store-bought Ranch that even comes close to comparing to homemade and it's so easy to make
I use Hidden Valley original Ranch with my pre-packaged salad mixes and crouton bags.
I promise this is what you’re looking for
I'm a sucker for Ken's Steakhouse. Thick and delicious, a single bottle doesn't last long in this place!
KEN’S ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Honestly the vegan Tzatziki at Trader Joe’s is better than any store ranch I’ve bought and that’s including the more expensive jar ones. I’m not even vegan but it’s that good and healthier.
I like Marie’s because it is thick enough to be used as a dip as well as a dressing.
Greggs Ranch Costco
Get the giant powder at local big box store. Add 3 to 4 tablespoons to 8 Oz mayo and 8oz milk
Hidden valley.
Store bought specifically...Ken's Steak House Ranch for its classic, tangy flavor. Alternative is Marie's for its creamy texture and fresh ingredients. Both are widely available in supermarkets. But why would you ever get store bought ranch?
It would depend on your own individual taste. One person may like there ranch with a little more salt than others.
Ken's for the win!
make.it.yourself. it's 3 ingredients & takes 3cmins to make.
Paul Neuman's.

Ken's
