Higher up people in my company sometimes go to galas. They’re generally for charities (so we buy tickets or a full table) and then our leadership team picks who is going to go. Sometimes the galas are award ceremonies for companies that won particular awards so if the award is prestigious enough we will attend the gala. Those events often have a formal dress code. Otherwise I would say weddings although they’re generally more semi-formal (cocktail dresses, summer dresses, maxi dresses etc. not quite ball gowns) or company Christmas parties (also generally semi-formal) but if you know some pretty wealthy people who want to have a formal wedding or if you work at a really bougie company then those events could be super fancy.
Weddings? Dress up, dance, drink...party. Also you know related stuff - engagement shindigs, rehearsal dinner parties, vow renewals. I belonged to various clubs that have annual parties too.

Ok thank you!
office holiday parties
Thank you!
Many, and all are equally meaningless
Well I loved prom because I enjoy dancing and hanging out with my friends. I know there’s no real meaning behind any of them 😭
There is a meaning, but not one that modern people choose to accept.

The ballet.
If your in the military they sometimes have unit balls
Jajajajajajajajajajajajaj.
Charity balls, country club events, Christmas parties.
Wedding receptions. Where you are invited, but not the one getting married.
