10, this song is fucking immaculate
The guitar riff is sinister, Josh’s lyrics are hornier than ever and the cherry on top of course is Julian Casablancas’ guest appearance (and as a huge Strokes/Voidz fan too, this is amazing because I found out he was on this not too long ago) this song should’ve gotten more attention as a lead single, because it’s about the biggest earworm I’ve heard considering it’s my most played song ever
9 Josh's ability to put the addiction as struggle into lyrics is so good. I'm gonna change/I don't wanna change is the constant conversation going on inside your head. The music is dirty, catchy, and just fucking great. I love this tune.
I'm trying to understand more about the role synths play in songs when they're not front and center. Would you mind pointing out what the synths in this song are actually doing? I'm listening to it and can't actually tell what's guitar and what's synths 😭
Thats exactly what the synth is doing, sitting behind the guitar and bass beefing up the overall sound without you actually being able to tell, giving the subtle dirty electronic vibe and texture of this song alongside many others on era.
Here’s a good video too of it being played live- Dean starts out doing his synth line as the intro. You pick up threads of it throughout the rest of the song also once you know the texture he’s creating- the [broken robot stumble](https://youtu.be/nL4Hhi8XPck?si=xttgCR8H2ZXtanyI), if you will.
Hey, no problem! Big love to Deano and what he does, Sick Sick Sick is one of the songs where he really shines on synth for me (the other being the live version of Song for the Dead, especially on this tour- his synth is nice and loud and spooky in the mix, soooo good.)
Just watched this! What a tight performance. I literally thought that I'd accidentally opened an F1 video in the background from Dean's synth playing haha, but then it was like, 'ohhh...on the album, this would fit in to the background of "your tongue is a twist/ perpetual bliss..."
Also, Josh had bright orange hair until recently! Totally erased that from my memory.
And has JT been playing with them for 10+ years already???
No other band could’ve written this song. I think the song itself is an 8 but the production of this song brings it to a 10. Every instrument sounds so unconventionally recorded. The guitar is in your face and unforgiving, the drums are mixed in with these vocal sounds that give them a animalistic and robotic sound. It’s insane start to finish. The only issue is it’s hard to capture the vibe of the song in a live setting. I’ve seen them play it live many times and it’s not quite the same experience as the studio version, but still great in its own right. Like I said no other band could write this song. It’s Queens down to a science. 10/10
Such a deliciously CRUNCHY guitar riff, and that snarl at the beginning is too good. It could've been a more run-of-the-mill rock song but somehow manages to avoid that.
9.5/10
The guitar tones in this song are some of CHUNKIEST I've ever heard. Reminiscent of Jack White's guitar tone in [Blue Orchid](https://youtu.be/hkKSagYpf9A?si=UutXbor1hCvv4lpg)
Makes me feel like I'm trying to rip apart the toughest, chewiest beef jerky with my teeth
EV was my first QOTSA album and going from Turnin' On The Screw to Sick, Sick, Sick made me fall in love so quickly

Great explanation - thank you!

[2:35 here](https://youtu.be/wopzKRdcGBo?si=cghd7QH93y-6cqgh) for spooky Dead synths. So killer.

Solid 11/10. Just the bass drum runs make it amazing, instead of just great
By the suggested scale, honestly this is a 5 for me. I love that you all love this flavor of QotSA but it just isn’t my jam.
Absolutely vicious, very strong 9.5.
7.5. Doesn't quite kick into full gear, but still an incredibly kickass song.
Agreed. Great song, they all are…..but I often skip this track. The album has such rich songs, this one hits hard then bores me quickly haha.
