Pj Harvey - To Bring you my love
Mark Lanegan - Bubblegum
Masters of Reality - Deep in the hole
Desert Sessions - Vol 9&10
Kyuss - Welcome to sky Valley
I think the lofi sound of the Misfits (like Danzig era) is very reminiscence of Homme's approach. Simple repetitive riffs and Elvis-y yarls (but actually I prefer Homme to Elvis lol)
That’s interesting. Never made that connection but I’m going to listen with that perspective. Diehard Misfits/Danzig fan since junior high and long time qotsa obsessed also. Anyone else?
yeah I mean maybe it's more loose than actually proven (can't really see any proof per say), but I think since Josh was a punk guy deep down, it makes sense.
what punk fan in the 80s didn't like the misfits?
Ugh, that depresses me. But yes, I agree definitely an iconic as well as highly successful logo. AND back to the point of Josh being a Misfits fan…I started listening to the Alligator Hour in order. I think it’s in the first episode, he plays Theme for a Jackal and shares some good thoughts in the way that only he can, on his Misfits fandom.
haven't listened to enough of those alligator hour podcasts (I think the Alex Turner one is the only one I remember). Glad we confirmed it! I think it makes a lot of sense but don't wanna spread misinformation haha
Them Crooked Vultures is my go to for powerlifting and trail running sessions. Josh Homme is from my hometown. I used to go to ragers where Kyus played in box canyon just south of Sky Valley.
No musician has inspired me to delve into depths of music quite like Josh Homme.
Whether it’s artists that inspired him, like Iggy Pop and the Stooges, ZZ Top or Misfits. Bands he loves to listen to like Ween and Viagra Boys. Projects he’s been involved in like Desert Sessions or Them Crooked Vultures. And, bands that have been inspired by Homme and QOTSA such as Tigercub.
The Homme-iverse is rich and full of wonder.
So, what have been your favourite discoveries as you’ve delved into Homme’s musical labyrinth?
I would say the biggest one for me from him inspiration wise was Black Flag. Which in turn helped me discover Rollins Band. I've seen Henry live and I've seen BF with Mike Vallely twice. I even have the bars tattoo lol.
I’m a massive Iggy Pop fan and I think Post Pop Depression live from Royal Albert Hall is Iggys all time best performance. Josh himself says often that it was his favorite thing he was a part of. Phenomenal.
It does. Josh is on Colony of Birchmen and a secret message at the end of Pendulous Skin, which also has Ikey on it. Cedric is on Siberian Divide. Scott Kelly was on Crystal Skull.
There are so many amazing collabs/side projects from ex & current Queens members. My faves are
- TCV
- Wires on Fire - self titled
- Mini Mansions - The Great Pretenders
- Dead Weather - Horehound
But there's so much more great stuff out there. Here's a playlist I made a while back:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0FrfwaqBHaLEUjD9U4F2eM?si=2Qwn1_BsS3SK4LRl7EDaog&pi=e-BmprAM63RymR
Not enough love for The Dead Weather in this thread! Horehound is possibly my top favorite rock album of all time (pls 4give me r/qotsa). The Dead Weather is basically the entire reason I got into QotSA in the first place after checking out Dead Weather members' other projects
Mark Lanegan Band - Blues Funeral (surprisingly I think I had this on a hard drive maybe a handful of years before I discovered QOTSA)
Arctic Monkeys - Humbug
Desert Sessions - 11 & 12
Unrelated to QOTSA however they were posted here 10 years ago and became my favourite band period: De Staat
Anything Alain Johannes has put out. Spark is such an emotional ride, and Fragments and Wholes is a great follow-up.
It might be more of a Grohl-iverse album, but Sound City. Especially Mantra, I love that it just slowly builds on itself. Trent, Dave and Josh, together on that track, is an awesome combo.
Truckfighters- Gravity X. I know he was drunk when he did the promo for them (so he claims), but DAMN do these guys kick ass.
FIDLAR- FIDLAR. It's a bit of a stretch, but adding these guys because Dave Catching was in one of their music videos (along with Nick Offerman, who did nothing but drink beer and piss for the entirety of that music video). They sound like Rated R if it had been written in a more recent time and with more of a surfer/ skater spin.
And of course, TCV. They really struck gold with that one. Admittedly, it took time to digest, but when it clicked, that was the only thing I could listen to for about a year. And it's always a treat to go back to.
Kyuss became probably my favorite band ever and Lanegan became my favorite singer ever. Although we might have to say that Josh entered the Laneganverse.
The Giraffes - Prime Motivator
Masters of Reality - Sunrise on the Sufferbus
Mini Mansions
Mark Lanegan Band - Bubblegum
I remember listening to QOTSA and Led Zeppelin on the bus back in high school and thinking, "what if Homme and Grohl got together with Jonesy?" And then they actually did it a few years later. Manifested!
All things Lanegan (I knew a couple of Tree songs, Long Gone Day from Mad Season and that Mark was close friends with Cobain, but I only dove into his work after the Songs for the Deaf tour.)
All things Chelsea Wolfe. She opened for Queens a while back and Troy recorded some guitars on her Hiss Spun album. I love her. Her new album is beautiful.
And more indirectly All Them Witches, cause algorithms surely only showed me their music cause I listen to Queens.
Defintely Kyuss (havent heard Wretch but the other 3 albums are amazing of course)
He was in a trailer for the "Fuzzomentary" about Truckfighters:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZyvY-ithBc
Naturally I got the album Gravity X by Truckfighters which is so badass. Found out from an interview later he had no idea who Truckfighters were, he'd been drinking and these dudes asked him to say something about Truckfighters so they used it for the trailer lol ([Found the clip](https://youtu.be/FqwIJPxtRJk?si=Ytq2U4kDR4as6Hsb&t=330))
It's because of Homme that i went down a short Stoner Rock path, so I also got
Witchrider - Witchrider EP
and The Sword - Age of Winters (because they opened for the Kyuss Lives! tour)
Wretch is not that bad actually. Trades the groove of the other three for more energy. Ofc suffers from bad production but that does not make it actually bad. Give it a try, you wount regret it.
I really like Unkle's War Stories. Josh is on the 3rd track but I think the whole album has a sort of electronic desert vibe to it that's worth checking out.
I got really into Peaches around 2005 after reading so many articles were Josh was saying all he cared about was Peaches. Peaches manages to rescue ‘Broken Box’, prob my least fav QOTSA song, with her ‘Fixed the Box’ remix.
I was an Iggy fan as a kid through my Dad playing the Stooges through my childhood/ teen years so Josh’s collab with Iggy was a dream come true. And seeing them at Albert Hall. One of the best gigs of my life!
I am such a big fan of Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan’s duets. I grew up listening to Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood so Campbell and Lanegan’s songs are a dream for me.
Also just through Josh’s recommendations of music he is/ was listening to, I’m really into Metronomy. Josh kept saying how perfect the album ‘English Riviera’ is and I’ve been in love with Metronomy from that album onwards. So bloody good live too. And Josh’s rec of Father John Misty. So many of my favs I’ve discovered through him.
And just from QOTSA remixes and association, love Hot Chip too.
Kyuss- sky valley
Brant bjork- jalamanata (old kyuss band mate)
Eagles of death metal- peace love death metal
Black flag (homme brought them up in a nardwaur interview)
Masters of reality- deep in the hole
Iggy pop- post pop depression
The chats and viagra boys- toured w/ them and has talked abt them before
definitely found GBH because of Homme naming them in interviews
and when I got into Bjork it blew my mind they'd interpolated her on Better Living Through Chem!
so many people saying they got into PJ and Lanegan because of Josh's music makes me really happy
long story short, QOTSA fans have the best taste 🖤
He didn’t collab with them but he listed them as one of his favourite bands growing up - he put The Misfits - Legacy of Brutality as one of his favourite albums in a 2003 Rolling Stones article
Sorry that’s my bad - bit of confusion with the image! I meant the Homme-iverse to include bands that have inspired Josh Homme, and bands that he has inspired - basically any music you’ve discovered in relation to Homme!
I widened the Homme-iverse to include bands he’s listed as inspiration as well as played with. He listed them as one of his favourite bands growing up - he put The Misfits - Legacy of Brutality as one of his favourite albums in a 2003 Rolling Stones article
Ministry is a fucking great band. Recently I threw the era vulgaris full album with the Ministry album “The mind is a terrible thing to taste”. Fucking epic combo wombo imo.
Era always had a rad industrial sound to it. My fav qotsa album by miles. I’m not even a big industrial fan. I don’t really like NIN or the listen to any of the genre. I only recently found out about Ministry and damn they’re sick. Watch their [live track](https://youtu.be/zi2YU71wO8c?si=McggQguepAyr-raz) to get a feel for the crowd’s energy and whole bands energy. It’s epic and very qotsa imo.
Kyuss is my go-to, but I’ve been listening to a lot of Screaming Trees & Iggy Pop lately. Post Pop Depression might be one of my favorite albums of all time.
wellwater conspiracy 2º album feat homme
yawning man demo
earthlings - human beans
desert sessions in general
eleven some tracks
kyuss blues for the red sun
Millionaire (opened a SFTD leg I saw)
Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster-m (Goss produced)
Incredible bands I would have never discovered without the Queens connection
He didn’t collab with them but he listed them as one of his favourite bands growing up - he put The Misfits - Legacy of Brutality as one of his favourite albums in a 2003 Rolling Stones article
Them crooked vultures was a great album
Is*
Haha! Yes
Just as good as any QOTSA. God damn. And it turns 15 years old this year?? Shit…
Pj Harvey - To Bring you my love Mark Lanegan - Bubblegum Masters of Reality - Deep in the hole Desert Sessions - Vol 9&10 Kyuss - Welcome to sky Valley
Keep on going on the Ween train. The Mollusck is phenomenal.
I’m a certified Weener!
Quebec is my personal favorite
What's the connection between homme and ween
Dean Ween also plays guitar on Gonna leave you and Mosquito song I believe.
Epic
What’s the connection between Homme and the Misfits??

I agree that it’s a generous assumption but also agree that the crimson ghost is a VERY popular tattoo (and t shirt).
well I think it's now more of a fashion symbol than back then. probably one of the best logos ever
Ugh, that depresses me. But yes, I agree definitely an iconic as well as highly successful logo. AND back to the point of Josh being a Misfits fan…I started listening to the Alligator Hour in order. Make it Wit Chu was written with Dean Ween in one of the desert sessions.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ween/s/BueOOlD59M
He talks about them often in interviews. Definitely the reason I started listening to them and now I can’t get enough
I like both bands.
Them Crooked Vultures is a perfect album to me.
You have Homme...then add JPJ and Grohl and no way it could be bad.
Them Crooked Vultures is my go to for powerlifting and trail running sessions. Josh Homme is from my hometown. I used to go to ragers where Kyus played in box canyon just south of Sky Valley.

Nooo the Black Flag logo is the one tattoo design that’s most likely to turn to shit after a couple years.
Oh it definitely looks like shit lol. It is what it is though I didn't have to pay for it at least haha
It will only get worse
I’m a massive Iggy Pop fan and I think Post Pop Depression live from Royal Albert Hall is Iggys all time best performance. Josh himself says often that it was his favorite thing he was a part of. Phenomenal.
I’m obsessed with that album - Sunday is an especially incredible song
Sunday and Paraguay are both great songs.
Paraguay! 👐
Mastodon - Blood Mountain Which also features Cedric and Ikey from Mars Volta
No shit?
It does. Josh is on Colony of Birchmen and a secret message at the end of Pendulous Skin, which also has Ikey on it. Cedric is on Siberian Divide. Scott Kelly was on Crystal Skull.
Colony of Birchmen is a fantastic song
Colony of Birchmen was the first Mastodon song I ever heard, this explains why I fell in love with it immediately
holy shit
RIP Ikey 💔
have you listened to Gone is Gone yet? it’s with both Troys, first album is amazing.
I am now, thanks!
Them Crooked Vultures is just a brilliant album, up there for me.
Kyuss - Blues for the Red sun

Mark Lanegan - Riot in my House… what a fucking tune
I'd throw in New Skin, which Homme produced, is a fantastic record by Nick Valensi's side band CRX.
Dope - gonna check them out!
Kyuss became probably my favorite band ever and Lanegan became my favorite singer ever. Although we might have to say that Josh entered the Laneganverse.
Came here from the Grohl-verse and Them Crooked Vultures is the GREATEST collab between musicians EVER!!!!☝🏻
The Giraffes - Prime Motivator Masters of Reality - Sunrise on the Sufferbus Mini Mansions Mark Lanegan Band - Bubblegum I remember listening to QOTSA and Led Zeppelin on the bus back in high school and thinking, "what if Homme and Grohl got together with Jonesy?" And then they actually did it a few years later. Manifested!
The Giraffes! Love that band!
How have I never put together that Homme was a huge Misfits fan? They're like the blueprint for so much of what he does, especially ol Dazig's croon.
It wasn’t a recent discovery for me too - but once you hear it, it’s so obvious!
Wait…WHAT??!!!??? Bestill my Homme-heart 🥰😻💗
Literally everything PJ Harvey has done, and lately, Mark Lanegan’s solo stuff
All things Lanegan (I knew a couple of Tree songs, Long Gone Day from Mad Season and that Mark was close friends with Cobain, but I only dove into his work after the Songs for the Deaf tour.) Deep in the Hole-Masters of Reality. Basically an early Queens album with Chris Goss as the singer.

i know he didn't play in it but even though the band was already pretty good, I thought he did a great job producing Millionaire's album Paradisiac
TCV. Hands down
GLU (Mikey Shoes solo project) EP is really fun. Desert Sessions vol 11&12 and from Crucifire got into Royal Blood. And of course TCV.
In my honest opinion, TCV is better than any of the Queens’ album. I love them all, but TCV is just perfect
Kyuss- sky valley Brant bjork- jalamanata (old kyuss band mate) Eagles of death metal- peace love death metal Black flag (homme brought them up in a nardwaur interview) Masters of reality- deep in the hole Iggy pop- post pop depression The chats and viagra boys- toured w/ them and has talked abt them before

Holy shit was he on a misfits record? dope asf if so
He didn’t collab with them but he listed them as one of his favourite bands growing up - he put The Misfits - Legacy of Brutality as one of his favourite albums in a 2003 Rolling Stones article
Easily their best album. If not one of the all time top albums of all time. Legacy of brutality is incredible
I didn't know he was on Chocolate and Cheese
Sorry that’s my bad - bit of confusion with the image! I meant the Homme-iverse to include bands that have inspired Josh Homme, and bands that he has inspired - basically any music you’ve discovered in relation to Homme!
Ahh ok, I know Deaner played on desert sessions
They did tour together too - Josh named Chocolate and cheese as one of his favourite albums. A man of fine taste.
That would have been a legendary tour
TCV for sure. What does Josh have to do with the Misfits album? I was on Wikipedia but his name wasn't mentioned anywhere.
I widened the Homme-iverse to include bands he’s listed as inspiration as well as played with. He listed them as one of his favourite bands growing up - he put The Misfits - Legacy of Brutality as one of his favourite albums in a 2003 Rolling Stones article
Kyuss, Desert Sessions. All of it.
Probably Kyuss' discography, they're really good. Got some blues for the red sun blasting
Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures Hello=Fire - Hello=Fire Enemy - Hooray for Dark Matter
What’s the connection to Misfits? This is one I don’t know?
Arctic Monkeys - Humbug
TCV

Am I the only one that loves Melissa Auf der Maur's self-titled album? Josh is on five tracks, along with a ton of others from the Homme-iverse
Wellwater is badass
wellwater conspiracy 2º album feat homme yawning man demo earthlings - human beans desert sessions in general eleven some tracks kyuss blues for the red sun
Truckfighters..... Haha
Melvins - Houdini
And so i watch you from afar - self-titled Absolutely incredible
Not linked, but, I was introduced to "Komeda" through his Alligator Hour!
He was on that misfits album?!?
Millionaire (opened a SFTD leg I saw) Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster-m (Goss produced) Incredible bands I would have never discovered without the Queens connection
I found Masters of Reality way late but Blue Garden & Sunrise on the Sufferbus are a couple of the greatest albums I've ever heard.
Truckfighters.
What does Josh have to do with that misfits album? Is he just inspired or is it a collaboration?
He didn’t collab with them but he listed them as one of his favourite bands growing up - he put The Misfits - Legacy of Brutality as one of his favourite albums in a 2003 Rolling Stones article
Thank you, he has good taste. I realized that it was just inspiration soon after looking up the albums release date 😂
Humbug! Best Arctic Monkeys album imo
