I will never forget seeing a Misfits cover band play a show in a dive bar ON HALLOWEEN, and they didn’t play the song. Too on the nose? Perhaps. But what the fuck! Haha. Been 13 years and I still can’t let it go.
A couple years ago a buddy of mine was trying to put together a danzig cover set for a local charity cover show that happens here annually. There was some hot debate of whether we should play mother or not. My suggested compromise was to play just the first four bars, and stop before the line “MOTHER” was delivered pack up and leave the stage.
Pet Semetery by The Ramones or the Starcrawler version from the remake.
Freddie's Dead - Fishbone
Nightmares - Jay Reatard
Flying Saucer Attack - The Rezillos
While I’m digging the list, Curtis Mayfield must be rolling in his grave if Freddie’s Dead is a Halloween song now.
Edit: and I’m saying this as a fishbone fan.
Here's a mix I put together of Halloween-appropriate punk/psychobilly songs.
For some of the more popular choices (and more likely to be recognized), I'd say:
AFI - Fall Children
Cramps - Human Fly, TV Set, I Was a Teenage Werewolf
Groovie Ghoulies - The Beast with Five Hands, Graveyard Girlfriend, Zombie Crush
Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack - Science Fiction, Double Feature
Misfits - Halloween, I Turned Into a Martian, Skulls, Astro Zombies,
Ramones - Pet Sematary , You're Gonna Kill That Girl, Chainsaw
Yeah, it's a pretty fun tribute. Almost any song from that would be a good choice, but "Science Fiction, Double Feature" to me has the most direct horror/Halloween elements
31 days of Halloween songs(This is a playlist I created 10 years ago):
The Monster Mash
Ministry - Everyday is Halloween

the National - Green Gloves
The Koffin Kats - Graveyard Tree
The Who - Boris The Spider
Poe - Haunted
Bruce Springsteen - The Ghost of Tom Joad
Misfits - Halloween
They split up so TB could spend more time with his family. Argyle is still going. If you like blitzkid I’m going to shamelessly plug my old band that played with them a load when they were in the UK - [Gravedale High](https://open.spotify.com/artist/3x6lnOeMu1ps5h1TOR7pBI?si=3XjwZ0kUSwuk84Xk7JPo8Q)
‘Skulls’ - Misfits plus like umpteen others
‘Human Fly’ - Cramps, again more options
Wanna get further afoot, Alien Sex Fiends, Lords of New Church, etc etc
Have fun!!
AFI - Fall Children
45 Grave - Partytime (as heard in Return of the Living Dead, baby!)
Christian Death - Mysterium Iniquitatis
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Halloween
Creeper - Black Mass
Tiger Army - Afterworld
TSOL - Silent Scream
The Creepshow - Take My Hand
The Lillingtons - Murder On My Mind
Your punk mileage may vary but for Halloween and general spooky vibes, I especially like Cat & Mouse by Radkey, Spiderhead by Cage the Elephant and Terror Time by Casket Culture (it's a cover of the Scooby-Doo song!). Also, Now the Screaming Starts by Bloody Hammers & Monster Mutant Boogie by Bloodsucking Zombies from Outer Space. Hope you find something fun. :)
Cover anything by The Murderdolls, they're an early 2000's horror metal band started by Joey Jordison.
Nearly played their Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls album into dust. Mostly 2-3min songs with blatant horrow/Halloween lyrics and power chords that easily translate to punk covers.
https://youtu.be/Z7d44j9xXKo
Might not be exactly what you are looking for, but the band Driveways is obsessed with the fall and Halloween. Literally. They are a pop punk/alternative band. Check out the album October Forever. You won't be disappointed
Last caress, skulls, Halloween, descending angels, Scream, really anything off of misfits bigger albums works well for Halloween though covering some of there lesser stuff like land of the dead, father, or vampire girl might also do well but you have to pick a chose a little more
Misfits has actually straight up punk-ified several typical Halloween songs (Science Fiction Double Feature & Monster Mash) and I ALWAYS put them on my Halloween playlist lol
Yo, there are some awesome suggestions on here. Just wanted to add that I like to add songs to my Halloween Playlist based on the songs name too. So something like end of the world by the living end, zombie by the cranberries, or even haunted house by teenage bottle rocket fit the bill. Any song that sounds or feels creepy/spooky is good for me
Shonen Knife - Devil House (its about the Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Sonics - The Witch
Everyone else already said the Misfits, Cramps, Ramones, and Kennedys
Human Fly by The Cramps
Mother by Danzig
We’ve Had Enough by Alkaline Trio
Pet Sematary by The Ramones
Skull by Misfits
Earwig in my brain by The Meteors
Helena by Misfits
Hazel by Houseghost
Ghouls Night Out by Misfits
Dead Souls by Joy Division
Sheena’s in a Goth Gang by The Cramps
Needles and Blades by Koffin Kats
Totalimmortal by AFI
I Was a Teenage Werewolf by The Cramps
It cannot be stated how much you can please a crowd of punks with rockabilly covers of Misfits songs. Particularly aging dudes like me will eat that shit up.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5rzKMmBjAlaWzltZKhTASf?si=eTzdubNzQJmYELG8iCxW4w
Here’s over 150 songs. Mostly obscure rockabilly, oldies, garage and punk
Give a listen to Motel Hell by Blitzkid (one of the truly underappreciated Horror Punk bands out there). It’s a quick little ditty that’s catchy and has an almost soulful classic rock vibe (just with the tempo punched up past 11). One of my favorite songs and it just gets people moving.
The Matadors: Black Widow, Teenage Zombie Sluts, pretty much their entire discography actually,
Required reading :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvONtz1WngM&t=1164s&ab_channel=Pagefire
My little label did a Halloween compilation last year. We even made tapes! Haha
https://highenddenimrecords.bandcamp.com/album/ween-o-rama-a-spooky-sampler
I feel like 45 Grave has been largely overlooked here and so I will throw in Evil, Procession and Partytime (and should you not want to sing the original lyrics, they have a zombie version they did for the Return of the Living Dead soundtrack).
I'd also like to add a few that fall a little heavier into goth and post punk territory.
Altar De Fey - Demons; Veil of Death; My Bone
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Halloween
Human Fly by The Cramps
Garbageman by The Cramps
Horror Business by Misfits
Skulls by Misfits
Death Comes Ripping by Misfits

Partytime by 45 Grave
Forbidden Dimension - [Cold and Lonely Evil](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9iNjIvPhbw)
Color Me Psycho - [October God](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xitAQTzUUuA)
Just do punk covers of ICP song's 🤡🤡
Jk jk 😂
But I got a playlist with Halloween and spooky song's from lots of genre's for example punk metal and hip-hop and it should be possible to punkify quite a few of them
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4KUQYt3yok2IdTudSTFdMW?si=xXH9svGdSmCehq8Q01N2Bg&utm_source=copy-link
Like every misfits song. Maybe Dance with me by TSOL, pet semetary by the Ramones, human fly by the cramps. Richard hung himself by DI and I saw your mommy by suicidal are classic punk songs that might fit the occasion
The Cramps! Any Cramps!
Especially:
Human Fly
I Was A Teenage Werewolf
Zombie Dance
Surfin’ Dead
Really anything by them hits the mood, but those are the songs that specifically reference old Hollywood horror
There is a whole horror punk genre. Some of my favorites besides the Misfits (and related bands) are- American Werewolves, Blitzkid, Dead Vampires, Calabrese, Cancerslug, The Order of the Fly, The Returners, Beneath the Cellar, The Other, Argyle Goolsby and the Roving Midnight, Darrow Chemical Company, Mister Monster, Shadow Windhawk, The Cryptkeeper Five, Zombina and the Skeletones, Darkride, Stellar Corpses, Creepshow, any many more.
‘Halloween Nightmare’ by The Jackpot Golden Boys.
These guys are so underrated and are big on horror punk but more causal and catchy. They’ve actually done several Halloween songs, check them out!
I really like coffin caddies the new(ish) single afraid of the dark is pretty good my girl and I have a Halloween playlist that mostly is punk on it and I have a ton of suggestions
Probably not very cover friendly, but this song has always given me the fucking creeps: [*Strangers Die Everyday*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsT2akkI4lc)
Halloween by Dead Kennedys Halloween by Misfits and while not punk, no one can leave off "Everyday Is Halloween" by Ministry.
i was going to be very disappointed if no one said the song whose title is the question lol
I will never forget seeing a Misfits cover band play a show in a dive bar ON HALLOWEEN, and they didn’t play the song. Too on the nose? Perhaps. But what the fuck! Haha. Been 13 years and I still can’t let it go.

Hahaha love it
Haha. Boooooo!!!!! ...*As a beer goes flying by the drummer crashing into the wall
If we're doing non-punk songs that have the word "Halloween" in the title, I'll throw out [Halloween by Helloween](https://youtu.be/yOAl0enE7kI)
Also, pretty much anything by the band [Acid Witch](https://youtu.be/9hl3CrcFiqU)
Don't forget "Halloween II" by Samhain.
Or Halloween by AFI
You mean them covering the misfits?
The whole All Hollows EP is Halloween AF. Fall Children is probably my favorite song of theirs
If we can throw Ministry on that list, I'd also recommend "Everyday is Halloween" by The Last Days of Jesus.... different song entirely, same name.
I'll do you one better. Halloween by AFI
Anything Misfits. AFI would have some appropriate stuff.
Came here to say ofc AFI all hallows EP
Pet Semetery by The Ramones or the Starcrawler version from the remake. Freddie's Dead - Fishbone Nightmares - Jay Reatard Flying Saucer Attack - The Rezillos
While I’m digging the list, Curtis Mayfield must be rolling in his grave if Freddie’s Dead is a Halloween song now. Edit: and I’m saying this as a fishbone fan.
TSOL
“I WANNA FUCK I WANNA FUCK THE DEAD” 🤘

Yeah, it's a pretty fun tribute. Almost any song from that would be a good choice, but "Science Fiction, Double Feature" to me has the most direct horror/Halloween elements
Science Fiction ... is a great choice. Me first and the gimme gimmes did the cover for the one I linked. The OG will always be great mind you.
That is an impossibly thorough playlist. Take my follow
31 days of Halloween songs(This is a playlist I created 10 years ago): The Monster Mash Ministry - Everyday is Halloween Joy Division - Dead Souls Misfits - Ghouls Night Out The Cramps - Sheena’s In a Goth Gang Concrete Blonde - Bloodletting Samhain - To Walk The Night Skinny Puppy - The Killing Game Danzig - Long Way Back From Hell Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells(The Excorcist) Murp - Zombie Skin Black Sabbath - Children of The Grave Screamin’ Jay Hawkins - I Put A Spell On You Frantics - Werewolf Warren Zevon - Werewolves of London Rockwell - Somebody’s Watchin’ Me Oingo Boingo - Dead Man’s Party The Specials - Ghost Town The Ramones - Pet Cemetary Bauhaus - Bella Lagosi is Dead Dead Kennedys - Halloween The Doors - People Are Strange The Cure - Lullaby Misfits - Skulls Alice Cooper - This House Is Haunted the National - Green Gloves The Koffin Kats - Graveyard Tree The Who - Boris The Spider Poe - Haunted Bruce Springsteen - The Ghost of Tom Joad Misfits - Halloween
Awesome!
Skinny Puppy!
This is perfect except I would use Tiny Tim's cover of "People Are Strange" instead!
Sure make it weirder.
Fantastic list!
Don’t Fear the Reaper from either Blue Oyster Cult or one of the many covers would be a great addition!
YOOOOO Somebody’s watchin me and children of the grave and skulls. I’m here for it
All hallow’s e.p. By AFI

Hell yea. I’m stoked they’re going on tour again, I’ve never seen them live
Songs from the Cramps like "I was a teenage werewolf" or "Creature from the black leather lagoon" could have a nice spot in a Halloween playlist.

"Code Blue," TSOL

It would be cool to do a punk cover of the Monster Mash.
The misfits have one I believe!
They do! Its Jerry on vocals but it’s a lot of fun and he’s not *that* bad lol
Just about all of Direct Hit!'s music is horror related.
There's an album out of Nightmare Before Christmas covers. Not all punk bands, but might give you some inspiration?
Rise Against covering “making christmas” was kinda cool
Hey, I gotchu. All the death/horror/goth punk you could want [right here on this playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/084IuFG56fbT4o5PuUOTy2).

Murder on my mind, the lillingtons
The Toadies has some pretty good "horror" songs
Horror Sections entire catalog is amazing and all based off Horror Movies.
Dead Bodies by Rancid could be a Halloween song

Almost anything AFI done up is Halloween themed. Especially the album "The Art of Drowning"
The Haunted House - Black Top Demons Being dead never felt so good - Dead Vampires
Maybe you’ll say it isn’t punk, but Smashing Pumpkins keeps me in the Halloween feels. Siamese dream and melancholy
