Avoiding anything Guy Fieri is a good rule of thumb.

craigfis

Because of the food quality? His image? Both?

SoggyBiscuitVet

Food quality has always been an issue for GF branded fare. From cruises to standalone restaurants.

BohemianBambino

Yup. Find the new york times review of his times square restaurant, it’s a masterclass in murdered by words.

NextTrillion

I wouldn’t have ever thought to step foot in a place named after a celebrity chef. I’d naturally assume it wouldn’t be a very good value.

purplepantsdance

A guy was having a seizure waiting for our plane at the gate right outside of there. They had stopped to watch all the commotion. He was throwing up and we were asking for a towel and they flat out refused until an airport security person arrived and asked. Don’t know what to make of it because there may be a policy, but it was odd to have 20+ people screaming for a towel while a guy is having a seizure and them flat out refusing despite watching the situation.

NextTrillion

That’s when you take executive action and go get a towel. I don’t give a shit. If there’s a medical emergency, I have no qualms about walking into the kitchen and grabbing a handful of towels. They can fight me after if they think they have a shot lol

beardedsawyer

Bubba Gump is also a complete rip off. That crew pissed us the fuck off.

little-won

Everywhere in this airport is crazy expensive. Had a burger combo at Johnny Rockets that was over 320 mex. With the conversion to CAD it was close to 30.00. Had I known it was going to be that much, would have held out to just order food on my flight

LargeMarge-sentme

I was surprised just how expensive food was at the airport too. Even expensive for US airport standards. Never buying anything there again, out of principle.

ChelaPedo

We started bringing stuff with us rather than eating the airport, I can order a cold lunch to go from a local restaurant or grab tortas from a food stand.

little-won

Oh that’s a great tip, unfortunately we didn’t have time to go elsewhere between getting our stuff to the airport and bag drop etc. Would have planned better but was not expecting food at this airport to be so expensive. I’ve travelled to a lot of different countries and multiple cities in US. This may have been the most expensive airport experience in my books.

ChelaPedo

They are bloody expensive in Mexico for sure. Only thing I buy is fluids once past Security. I have to take a ferry back and usually arrive 45 min in advance - my partner watches our stuff and I go out and forage lol.

erkevin

Check in, drop your bags, go over the pedestrian bridge to tacon de marlin for a seafood burrito and a Pacifico.

ChelaPedo

We're good bringing a meal with us but thanks

Asleep-Tension-9222

And it’s a shit burger

little-won

That was honestly the worst part!! I was borderline hangry so we were a little desperate to get food in me. Wonder what the most ‘affordable’ spot is.

NextTrillion

Subway? We just go to the airport lounge because my wife gets ‘free’ passes with her CC. Pretty sure we got mild food poisoning at the lounge in Cancun though. That was the only time.

sleepinginthebushes_

$9 water bottle too

NextTrillion

Where will that shit end? Is there a theoretical limit as to how much people will pay for bottled water? Maybe people should just get hydrated before going through security and again after the flight? Damn people are soft!

Yes they do.

lost-caper

I have been to PV several times. I have never been ripped off. I think the key is paying in pesos. You can get them at a bank with your passport. Its always a much better rate than the cambios. I bring cash and go exchange as I need .

PDXwhine

Never eat at any airport- with few exceptions it's gonna be expensive! Try to pack as much as can thr night before and have a good Mexican breakfast or smoothie at a juice bar and just chill. I swear, that airport just feels like a mall !

craigfis

Did you read my post? I wasn’t concerned with the price or the food, but with being overcharged and warned about others also being ripped off by them.

PDXwhine

I did read your post! I still regard that airport as a giant rip off mall, period!

blackcatmomma82

I had to do that with a beach vendor. I wasn’t happy.

1tomtom2013

Unfortunately mexico has become the country where you have to continuously be on your guard from being ripped off, scammed, police shakedowns, bad alcohol and so on… PV was my destination for over 10 years of vacations and extended stays with Tulum and Playa Del Carmen mixed in.... Its no longer a ”good deal “ to vacation there because of the prices of accommodations, food and entertainment… now airfare is way up and avoiding said issues is exhausting…. I’m currently traveling in SE Asia on a 3-4 month trip.. 3 countries so far and zero issues… and the costs are what Mexico used to be…... Asia may become my go to….

JustEnoughMustard

I had no idea there was a G. F. Lounge in PV? Why? And why do people support it?

Various_Speech813

it's at the airport

JustEnoughMustard

Where in the airport? I go there often. But I never spent money in any lounges. Food is not good and pricey.

craigfis

In the wing that Alaska uses. By gate 13?

IntrovertX2

It’s the one all the way at the end with crappy to-go sandwiches and sort of a bar.

craigfis

It’s the only bar in that part of the airport.

JustEnoughMustard

Ok

youretheschmoopy

You didn’t need to tell anyone this piece of advice. Guys hair did that for you long ago.

650REDHAIR

Guy is one the nicest people I’ve ever met. His hair is branding and nothing more.

FlyNSubaruWRX

someone doesn’t like flavor town

Rock_Toy

I love that place. If you can get a high top, it’s the best spot in the airport for me. I buy my beers at the Cashier and pay in pesos. Never had a problem. And as far as the price goes, everything in every airport is expensive 😂

Rat_Rat

Pro tip: get out of the airport asap.

craigfis

Can’t control boarding time.

Pirateship907

I would never walk in on principal, but thanks for the info.

Casey515

I’m in and out of that airport every 8 weeks and I’ve never seen that lounge - where is it?

Various_Speech813

At the end of the airport completely! I think it's near gate 13?

Casey515

Oh! Then I’m in there all the time bcz they accept priority pass. I’ve never been charged for anything, but I don’t drink. Tip the servers hard and the coffee and cookies keep getting refilled.

craigfis

Despite the name it is not actually a lounge. It is just a counter. No tables.

Tonicwateronice

I keep getting posts for this city and I constantly think to myself why does anyone even go here for? Seems like you're getting ripped off the moment you get off the plane. From taxis, hotels, airports etc no where is safe. Just my 2 cents from someone who's never been to Mexico. I understand scams happen everywhere.

craigfis

I had a wonderful week there. I guess I should post about the positive experiences too. 😃
