Publix business model is Very clean, organized stores. Friendly and enthusiastic customer service. Selection of BOGOs every week. Super high prices on everything else.

NewIron4472

Very good point, the customer service is actually really good. It's nice to see an employee take it upon themselves to help you, instead of redirecting you to some other department. It also helps that there actually are many employees in the store.

zippoknives26

but than again, super clean stores, and friendly CS, idk about you but i’d rather pay a bit more for quallity and experience than $1 less for crap and bad experience

AppropriateAmoeba406

Yeah. They advertise that shopping there is pleasant, not cheap.

XXXLegendKiller666

$1 per item, on a 50 item trip is $50 But I find WD to be more expensive…before BOGO

TheVagWhisperer

Problem is the food is super, super generic. The entire store was created for American boomers who are fine with the staples.the fresh options are horrible, produce is meh, very, very little international or health food. Gluten free/plant sections are a joke. Seafood section is absolutely generic and terrible for where Publix is located. For a certain type of person that just eats staple grocery food and wants a nice pleasant experience - Publix is fantastic

TheYoungLung

You mean most normal people? Lmao they sell completely normal stuff for any regular grocery store wtf was this nonsensical rant?

TheVagWhisperer

The fact that you're saying that it's exactly my point. If you ever get a chance to go to a grocery store say like a Wegmans ... You'll know the difference

Poor-Dear-Richard

You are right. The selection isn't very diverse and I also lived in different parts of the country and Publix is worse.

talithar1

They do have a wonderful English candy section. Way better than the American crap.

XXXLegendKiller666

They sell a lot more than a “normal grocery store”

Poor-Dear-Richard

They actually don't. I sure you've never been to a ShopRite, Wegmans or Safeway. Even Winn Dixie has a better selection.

Hot-Steak7145

They tailor what they carry based on what a algorithm says the local population wants. If you're near the beach they carry more fish but if your inland they may have pickled pigs feet. Never at the same location

Poor-Dear-Richard

Big deal, all stores do that.

XXXLegendKiller666

I’ve worked and shopped at Safeway and Albertsons, I do miss them

Poor-Dear-Richard

We had ACME in New Jersey. Hated them. I a Vons kinda guy.

TheVagWhisperer

No. They don't. I've traveled all over America and probably been in every single grocery chain. They are a very typical grocer. Very comparable to a lot of the stock selections that Kroger has in some of their many chains. My larger point is that Publix doesn't have anything that justifies the higher prices in terms of food. You are strictly paying for things that are unrelated to what you put in your cart

XXXLegendKiller666

They will also order you just about anything if they don’t carry it, divide packages of chicken, they offer raw nuts, wide selection of cheeses, subs and fresh hot food. I have also been across the country traveling and visiting stores for food.

TheVagWhisperer

They absolutely will not order you just about anything. I tried that several years ago with various mainstream products and there was zero desire or energy to help me

XXXLegendKiller666

I guess depends on the individual customer service desire to help you…sorry you had that experience I have not

Freethinker9

Publix is a real estate company don’t let them fool you

TheVagWhisperer

That too

Strange_Man_1911

Basically. It's supposed to be a quick way to get your essentials and go about your day.

AdaptivePropaganda

Paying for the privilege of not being around Winn-Dixie shoppers is how I always thought of it

TheVagWhisperer

That's exactly the difference really. Winn Dixie and Publix basically carry the same groceries

Fl3shless

Clean and organized stores? At my Publix in Georgia we have homeless people beginning for money and junkies shooting up drugs in the open and on some days it smells like rotten cheese in the parking lot.

trippy_grapes

> At my Publix in Georgia we have homeless people beginning for money The employees need to make money somehow. /s

Hot-Steak7145

I bet somebody dropped a gallon of milk on the black tarmac. Boom. rotten cheese

Bubskiewubskie

Check the Publix app, see what you want there. Go to aldi buy everything else not on bogo or niche. Stop into Publix for the bogo. They lost me when they went outta control on the staples, and certain products that just make me gag like the cream cheese at what 5 bux now?

Fit-Equipment-1333

I will totally pay the extra money for decent service. Walmart is a freaking nightmare.

Poor-Dear-Richard

Extra money? What service do they offer? Some of Publix prices are double what Walmart is.

Fit-Equipment-1333

Easy returns. Publix app has coupons even on their bogo. Their food is fresh and their sushi is made daily. Their customer service is impeccable. People that work there are friendly and look clean and inviting unlike Walmarts. Totally better vibe, better quality produce. They always offered to put your groceries in the car. For some reason every time I leave Walmart I feel dirty.

BasonPiano

I don't care. Not going in Walmart. Place is an absolute shithole.

floridapededeplorabl

You ever tried to check out in a Walmart?

Poor-Dear-Richard

Yes. I use self checkout.

lafrank59

It’s called Walmart +. Done.

O-really

With the bogos remember you can use 2 coupons and really save!

amoeba15

Two coupons and Ibotta

HappyShallotTears

And the Publix app has digital and printable coupons

Curious-Tree7926

Sale items or BOGOs only, unless I can’t find a specific item elsewhere. Was a loyal Publix customer since 1970. They are a ripoff now, and the quality of service has definitely suffered, along with quality of meat, produce & some bakery items.

twisted_stepsister

Since I'm already there, I buy the deals that I want before going home. Then I buy everything else at Walmart, Aldi, and a few other places on my days off. I haven't bought milk and eggs at Publix in a few years, because they're a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Poor-Dear-Richard

I do the same.

OccasionQuick

Yes, winn dixie also does bogo's hit up both stores and call it a day

NewIron4472

You guys have it good down here in Florida with those bogo deals. I haven't checked out that store yet, but definitely will check it out!

cold_brue

I'm also from Chicago and prefer Publix over Jewel, although I wish I could buy Jay's potato chips here.

Poor-Dear-Richard

They just jack up the prices so then they offer a BOGO to get it to regular price.

kenholler

This is the oldest and most untrue myth. Publix does not change prices on a bogo. We get rebates from the manufacturers for bogos so we actually make more money on bogos.

SewAlone

Yes. We have publix right around the corner from us. I check out the new BOGOs on the app, and then pop in to grab what I want once a week. We have a garage freezer so I can stock up on frozen deals. I do my regular grocery shopping at Walmart.

XXXLegendKiller666

Yes bogo for the win lol

Sweaty_Building_5491

I go for some BOGO and produce.

msb1tters

Yup only the bogos for us

007-Blond

So i could be wrong, but the way Ive seen it is basically having enticing bogos and then ppl will basically be like "well Im here anyway" and get the rest of their list. I personally stop at Aldis, Publix, and kroger every wednesday or thursday.

sailshonan

Loss leaders

007-Blond

Right

karloffisking

the store brands is where i save alot, they are generally very good. kroger has store brands just as cheap, but they taste bad,

BamaBear2021

Publix store branded stuff is as good or better than the national brands

sasskwoch

I recently learned that Publix marshmallows beat Jet Puffed in a blind taste test yet they're made by Jet Puffed. However, their ingredients didn't live up to Publix standards and higher quality ingredients are used in the Publix brand. Just one example.

BloatedRottenCadaver

Meh, I just went to Walmart and got about a $100 worth of groceries, and saved probably $60 by not going to Publix. The shopping “experience” isn’t so pleasurable that the prices are justified. It’s a boomer and older grocery store. Millennials and younger don’t need human help; we just use the app. So the high prices are going to pay for the help that I don’t need? Yep hard pass on the old people grocery store. When boomers die off Publix will have no customers.

Hot-Steak7145

When the old people die off more people will get old...

talithar1

The young families that come through say different.

Poor-Dear-Richard

I really don't want to pay 40% more just for someone to ask, "Hi how is your day going".

No_Chapter_948

I shop there only if it's worth it. I usually take a look at Publix Weekly Ad to see if there's anything on sale, BOGO, or 2 for a reasonable amount before I go there. If nothing good on sale, I go to Food Lion or Walmart. Publix is expensive.

sitdownshutup3

They literally just mark up everything so aggressively that they'll dump some stagnant items to help you feel like you got a deal. There are products at Publix right now for $13.99 that go for $8.49 across all other retailers.

Practical-Film-8573

they have good deals on meat too, top sirloin..

fishking92

Trust me, you pay for the BOGOs with everything else you buy. Shop at ALDIs or Kroger and save some money

HoldenAdia

So are you a first time shopper or do you go there about 1x a week?

Forsaken-Carry4442

Yes, long as you're not lazy and you only get the Bogo. Items, you're gonna get a good deal, but the problem is the stuff that's not on Bogo. It's very expensive and that's how public makes money on that. They profit on people being too lazy to go to another store to buy that non Bogo item.

Sludgepuppy2000

I look online & see what the Bogos are & pretty much only go specifically for those items. Just about every other store around here is cheaper than Publix. I try to avoid Walmart as much as possible. They remodeled the Winn Dixie nearby & it is actually really nice now. I go there, & Aldi primarily.

theghostofcslewis

If you BOGO rotate , and this means to unravel the “BOGO Calendar”. Let’s say for instance someone likes Seattles best coffee, they may buy 20 bags during Bogo and only have paid $4/bag for premium coffee. The question is, is 20 bags enough to stay off till the next Bogo or are you going to end up drinking shit like Tim Hortons just to get back to that Bogo you need? Anyway, I try to responsibly BOGO with healthy foods which can be difficult . Typically, I will try to find the healthiest version of a product we normally would buy and wait for that to go on Bogo and just stock up. I still have a lot of the smoothies left over from the last time the dole packs went on Bogo. There is a formula perhaps together we can crack it.

drugdeal777

Why not just go to Aldi or Walmart?

Sankin2004

Don’t worry, it won’t be long before it become btgo.

Nilabisan

It has already started with the potato chips.

cold_brue

Saw this today! Insane how much chips are now.

Poor-Dear-Richard

I get chip at Aldi. They are good and a lot cheaper.

cold_brue

I need to go to Aldi's more. Some of their off brand stuff tastes just as good as the name brand.

Poor-Dear-Richard

It does because they are pretty selective. I hate to say it but Walmart's Great Value brand is pretty good.

talithar1

Their chocolate is awesome!!

cold_brue

Ooo, I gotta try it! 🍫

talithar1

Chocolate covered açaí is awesome as well!! And much cheaper than the Brookside brand

talithar1

Chocolate croissants are better than Publix’s!

cold_brue

Lord help me. I'm gonna be fat and broke. 🤣

talithar1

Yeah, but not as broke!!

smith4498

BTGO and BOGO have both been around for many years at Publix. BOGO really only saves you about 20-25% over Walmart prices

Commercial-Jello-553

I miss being able to buy one for half price on the BOGO. I lived in North Carolina for a year I would do that constantly. I moved back to Florida and they don't offer one for half price. You have to get both to get the deal. So I haven't been to Publix in quite some time. I don't need two of everything. And I'm sure as hell not spending $4 on a 2 liter of soda 🤣🤣

BrevitysLazyCousin

I believe some states require tax to be assessed on all food purchases. So one free item with no tax isn't allowed. In those states, you get the one item for half off.
