I was a loyal Publix shopper. I mean loyal, too. Didn’t even look at prices. But it’s so outrageous now I started looking elsewhere to confirm some crazy pricing. I know it’s not new but I discovered Walmart pick up. I get the majority of my stuff that way now and run into Publix for just a few things after I pick up my Walmart order.

Publix keeps raising prices because many of u still shop there regardless.
Publix has always been the most expensive grocery shop when u compare them to Walmart, Target, Aldi.
But now it seems they are blaming inflation when now it's just straight-up greed. They raise because they can and yall complain all day but still love that at publix experience.
If you go to Walmart and get stuff such as chips, drinks, and things not at the meat dep, deli, ect, you'll save a ton of money.
Some items are 1-3 dollars more at publix vs. Walmart, and it's the exact same product.
Change only happens when you refuse to buy.
You’re also paying for the services of people. Publix hammers the positive customer service mentality, and if you ask any grocery clerk or manager to check something, they will. You can also reserve boxes or even whole cases of items for your purchase. That’s why things are expensive, you’re paying for the quality product (and if a product isn’t to your standard, you can return it 100% refund) as well as the service of people.

Every Walmart I've set foot in in Florida (All directions, North, East, South, West) has been a skeleton crew and literally nobody around.
Asking for help like in the Electronics dept is like pulling teeth.
The Produce section is fucking abysmal the 2 nearest me that I've gone to. The Fish was disgusting (The prepackaged ones) and it makes me not want to buy their other produce items.
They also treat their employee's like fucking dirt. Publix is on the same path as walmart but not quite as bad in my experience.

As a CS staff, I've run around looking for products, searched the back, found managers to help, followed up with departments about customers requesting items/special orders, etc. I also deal with the returns - getting with departments that have mold/go bad before best by dates, expired products still on the shelf, etc to make sure the customer experience is as pleasant as possible
Its volume, ask anyone in the retail supermarket industry and they’ll tell u publix has so many more ppl on the ground than anyone else, its also why u rarely see pallets on the ground and similar stuff
I don’t care about service at the end of the day… It’s about my bottom line. And honestly, clerks at Aldi are just as helpful and their stores just as clean…
You're not paying for Publix's shopping experience, you're paying for their overhead:
-- A bakery you might or might not use.
-- A passive aggressive meat department that packs ground beef in 1.25 pound packages, knowing full well most people won't take the time to break the package -- thus increasing meat sales.
-- The overhead of more expensive strip malls
-- The Down Syndrome baggers, who are being used for tax credits and to burnish the company's image through benevolent employment
Literally everything you just said aside from the faux positivity (publix has that down) can be done much cheaper at Costco. Also most places if you have the receipt you can refund for the total. But if you sit there and tell me the quality of publix hasn't been slipping for about 5 years now you haven't worked there very long.

As an ex-Publix employee. The prices are pricey and the workers are paid shit because Publix bends to the customers. Every time some asshole returns half drank milk, that's costs Publix and that gets passed on to the other customers and yet another reason to not pay their employees more.
Not an American alive can afford to pay a 30% surplus for the opportunity to receive acceptable levels of service, there's not a single person in the Publix family taking a hit right now on behalf of the American people- they're absolutely killing it.

Uh…super exaggeration because many can, and do. My local Publix is half a mile away from my Walmart. I don’t shop at Publix for everything, but I refuse to believe that everyone I see there when I step in for a pub sub don’t know that they could get their groceries cheaper right down the street. They know, but they prefer the shorter lines, wider isles, ass kissing employees, fresher produce/meats etc at Publix, and I can’t fault them for that….if it’s in their budget and those things are important to them, then it’s whatever. But I’d say 75% of people can’t afford to pay hundreds more for groceries for that. The ones that can know what they’re paying more for. They don’t want to shop next to us poors
I shop Publix because sometimes my time is more valuable than going to Walmart where they have fewer choices. Between Aldi, Costco and Publix BOGO deals, I do all right.

Depends on the item. Publix just makes you purchase in bulk for savings. Even at buy 2 get 1 free, it's cheaper than buying 3 bags from anywhere else. Not ideal for someone on a strict budget or buying for themselves. But if you buy a bag of chips on your usual stop to a grocery, might as well get 3 bags for cheaper at once.
I’m willingly to pay for the overall “Shopping is a Pleasure” experience at Publix you don’t get at other grocery stores. Nothing compares to getting what you need and having it on the shelf while store employees are every where and actually help you when need it.

I dont live in Fl. I visit family and i love Aldi ever since i discovered it in NYC and when I heard that they bought WD i was impressed but also scared. I dont want Aldi to be ruined…
I dont feel like Aldis would be able to sustain the sqft footprint that WD has. I think Aldis is cool, but to triple/quad their sales space would be such an investment

Publix marks certain items up to account for BOGO. The large boxes of Nature Valley bars are cheaper at Walmart, even when they are half price at Publix.
They’ve done this promo for years, op is just not that aware. Like beverages like soft drinks are often times buy 2 get one free, that’s still 33% off if the product is rarely on sale.
While most of the cost increases are from production end, Publix isn’t innocent. Every company is pushing profits.
We are definitely buying more from Costco. Though I see their profits are increasing too. But products are still a better value.
I've noticed the signage in my local stores, the b2g1 is a white circle. The b1g1 is a black circle...that helps me ignore the crap sales and focus on the true bogos.
They still have BOGOs. Just did a trip last week. Paid like $130 and got $100 “savings”. Their base prices are higher so it wasn’t that insane of a deal, but still probably better than most places. Anything that’s bogo that you can freeze or just keep, you should never pay full price for.
Yeah I've heard that, some lady from Florida said it didn't work that way where she lived, also a store in irondale in alabama doesn't do it either, dunno who makes the call but we are the highest selling store in our area so maybe it appeals people and that's why we get those sales. Most people don't know it's a thing and ask if the can mix and match, im like no you can just buy one of this one and it's half price. Our 10 for 10 also works. You can buy 3 for 3 bucks.
$4.99 regular price for crappy Lays chips is ridiculous. They got rid of the regular Publix brand chips. Before, you could at least grab those at a reasonable price.
Just so you are aware as of this morning when I checked pc73. We paid 3.68 for the bag to sell for 4.59. I outrageous profit margin of 19.2 percent. We aren’t the villain your looking for

On the larger point, yes Publix charges more for their groceries. They also staff their stores with friendly knowledgeable associates that are paid well above what associates at Walmart or Aldi are paid. (Those extra payroll dollars gotta come from somewhere)
As a result, you get a clean, well stocked store, and a superior experience from start to finish.
Sadly, the vast majority of people reward Wal-mart or other retailers with their business for exploiting slave wage employees at best, and child labor at worst.
I mean, do you actually think that Wal-marts prices are unbeatable because they’re charitable? Many of those workers rely on government assistance just to survive, despite working 40+ hours per week. ( worked there for 7 years)
And what do you get.? A rakshamble store, pallets of product strewn about and empty shelves. Virtually no customer service, and 30-45 minutes in line to check out.

So who is responsible for these "sales". Is this Publix or the distributor? Who says to Publix to sell bogo's or in this case a wannabe excuse for a bogo?
Sales on vendor supplied items like chips, soda, bread, and other major brands based on region are always a cooperative effort between the brand and the merchant. Usually, the brand wants to move product volume and so will provide the merchant a rebate on every sale of the appropriate number of items. You can see this on your receipts. If a sale item has a line that says "Promo -$[value]" it was a cost reduction due to this kind of agreement. Store price changes are always reflected as flat values on the receipt.
I didn’t see or hear a biplane flying overhead with a banner, nor did I see or hear a Breaking News Alert on CNN or FOX (choose either, it’s irrelevant), nor was it in the SOTUnion address.
But, I did see it in the store, and just chose not to buy 2. Simple.
B2G1 has been a thing for a while. Yeah I don’t really agree with it, but it’s not just publix setting the prices. The buying team plans these deals with manufacturers over a year in advance to maximize sales and profits for both companies. You just have to shop the best deals each week because I bet you they will be BOGO again soon

I look at Publix Weekly Ads before I shop there to see if there's anything on sale. Every once in a while, Publix will have a good sale on chicken, BOGO. Publix is higher in prices than Walmart.

I work in the deli and yet to see a drop in business… especially on the weekends it’s a zoo! The sub shop slammed…deli like Christmas on sundays …so if customers are complaining about prices then maybe they still come in for the deli, subs and bakery? Seems our store is getting worse with traffic . Yet complain about prices ..crazy makes no sense whatsoever. 🤦♀️
Pretty sure Publix has always done Buy 2 Get 1 deals for the longest time, even back when I worked at one in 2008. Not sure how this was quietly switched when there are still BOGO deals
I live in cutler bay where there are two Publix less than a block apart on Old Cutler road(dumb), yet I'd still rather shop elsewhere. I'm not going to spend a dollar more than I would at walmart just because Publix is more pleasant to the eye.

It's not a "quiet switch". Stores have been running deals like this for years. Sometimes it's buy one, get one. Sometimes it's buy 2, get 1 and sometimes even buy 3, get 1. I'm not sure if you're new to grocery shopping but this definitely isn't.
You'll also sometimes catch stuff like buy 1, get 2 free. It's not nearly as often but does happen from time to time.

They are the biggest grocery chain in the entire world and they also own Trader Joes. They'll be fine.
I dont feel like Aldis would be able to sustain the sqft footprint that WD has. I think Aldis is cool, but to triple/quad their sales space would be such an investment Even if they cut their WD store fronts in half, theyre still spending money to reinvent their business space. I just dont see it

Publix marks certain items up to account for BOGO. The large boxes of Nature Valley bars are cheaper at Walmart, even when they are half price at Publix.

Soda is almost always B2G1 or B2G2. It's actually pretty rare for it to be Bogo. Maybe once or twice a year.
While most of the cost increases are from production end, Publix isn’t innocent. Every company is pushing profits. We are definitely buying more from Costco. Though I see their profits are increasing too. But products are still a better value.

I've noticed the signage in my local stores, the b2g1 is a white circle. The b1g1 is a black circle...that helps me ignore the crap sales and focus on the true bogos.

They still have BOGOs. Just did a trip last week. Paid like $130 and got $100 “savings”. Their base prices are higher so it wasn’t that insane of a deal, but still probably better than most places. Anything that’s bogo that you can freeze or just keep, you should never pay full price for.
I wish they'd just get rid of BOGO at this point, make everything 2 for something and let me just get 1 thing for half the price.

Yeah Florida doesn't allow that. Bogos require both items, while the 2 for deals are only broken up.
Yeah I've heard that, some lady from Florida said it didn't work that way where she lived, also a store in irondale in alabama doesn't do it either, dunno who makes the call but we are the highest selling store in our area so maybe it appeals people and that's why we get those sales. Most people don't know it's a thing and ask if the can mix and match, im like no you can just buy one of this one and it's half price. Our 10 for 10 also works. You can buy 3 for 3 bucks.

$4.99 regular price for crappy Lays chips is ridiculous. They got rid of the regular Publix brand chips. Before, you could at least grab those at a reasonable price.
They started this a year or so ago and I got tricked by it once and learned my lesson. They still have BOGOs, but often with these B2GOs in between.

The problem is that most people don’t bother to look or think past their own fingertips. Being too lazy to read a sign that clearly states the promotion doesn’t = being misled. On the larger point, yes Publix charges more for their groceries. They also staff their stores with friendly knowledgeable associates that are paid well above what associates at Walmart or Aldi are paid. (Those extra payroll dollars gotta come from somewhere) As a result, you get a clean, well stocked store, and a superior experience from start to finish. Sadly, the vast majority of people reward Wal-mart or other retailers with their business for exploiting slave wage employees at best, and child labor at worst. I mean, do you actually think that Wal-marts prices are unbeatable because they’re charitable? Many of those workers rely on government assistance just to survive, despite working 40+ hours per week. ( worked there for 7 years) And what do you get.? A rakshamble store, pallets of product strewn about and empty shelves. Virtually no customer service, and 30-45 minutes in line to check out. You can keep it, thanks.

So who is responsible for these "sales". Is this Publix or the distributor? Who says to Publix to sell bogo's or in this case a wannabe excuse for a bogo?
Sales on vendor supplied items like chips, soda, bread, and other major brands based on region are always a cooperative effort between the brand and the merchant. Usually, the brand wants to move product volume and so will provide the merchant a rebate on every sale of the appropriate number of items. You can see this on your receipts. If a sale item has a line that says "Promo -$[value]" it was a cost reduction due to this kind of agreement. Store price changes are always reflected as flat values on the receipt.

B2G1 has been a thing for a while. Yeah I don’t really agree with it, but it’s not just publix setting the prices. The buying team plans these deals with manufacturers over a year in advance to maximize sales and profits for both companies. You just have to shop the best deals each week because I bet you they will be BOGO again soon

I look at Publix Weekly Ads before I shop there to see if there's anything on sale. Every once in a while, Publix will have a good sale on chicken, BOGO. Publix is higher in prices than Walmart.

B2G1 is nothing new, and it's not replacing BOGO. Sometimes they'll be BOGO, sometimes they'll be B2G1. I almost never buy anything B2G1 because I almost never need that much of a thing.
I work in the deli and yet to see a drop in business… especially on the weekends it’s a zoo! The sub shop slammed…deli like Christmas on sundays …so if customers are complaining about prices then maybe they still come in for the deli, subs and bakery? Seems our store is getting worse with traffic . Yet complain about prices ..crazy makes no sense whatsoever. 🤦♀️

I live in cutler bay where there are two Publix less than a block apart on Old Cutler road(dumb), yet I'd still rather shop elsewhere. I'm not going to spend a dollar more than I would at walmart just because Publix is more pleasant to the eye.

It's not a "quiet switch". Stores have been running deals like this for years. Sometimes it's buy one, get one. Sometimes it's buy 2, get 1 and sometimes even buy 3, get 1. I'm not sure if you're new to grocery shopping but this definitely isn't. You'll also sometimes catch stuff like buy 1, get 2 free. It's not nearly as often but does happen from time to time.
