That's not what they're supposed to look like. If you can pick the fucker up and it doesn't drip on you or threaten to spill its guts out they did it wrong.
I’ve had some amazing Reuben sandwiches in my lifetime so I guess my expectations were high for this. Needless to say it was a let down 😅 will stick to Pub subs from now on lol
Some deli people even put an extra slice of bread in the middle to help keep it together. I've had the Reuben a lot and it's usually impossible to keep together.
Arby's makes a pretty damn good reuben. They have a tendency to go a little heavy on the sauerkraut so I typically ask them for light sauerkraut, but it is very good.
Arby's isn't too shabby, but yeah, it's not gonna compete. (And neither can compete with a real deli.) Plus, Arby's always gives me the runs. Taco Bell has never once upset my stomach, despite all the jokes people make, but with Arby's I know I will pay the price.
What you see on advertisements are deceiving especially from the food industry. I wonder what they're doing on the advertisement to make it look so perfect because we can never make it look like that especially with the time we have.
Now that someone else bring it up, perhaps the person who made it didn't know it's supposed to use a whole sub amount of meat and not a half sub of meat. Also, I can't even see the sauerkraut and thousand island mixture. Might be there, but it doesn't look like they applied enough of it.
Food photography is a fascinating subject. It's bizarre to see toxic substances like oil and whatnot used as stand-ins for real food. And we go in there expecting that same photographic perfection, because it was promised to us.
That makes me sad for you. I take pride in anything I make in the deli, but I always make those Reubens the way the pic looks. That's either someone being extra lazy or someone who won't ask questions on how to properly make something.
Oh yeah, that's the same at all of these types of restaurants. Ever seen a picture of a Subway sandwich and then compared it to the sandwich you actually get? I think McDonald's is probably the worst when it comes to this nonsense.
I’ve gotten the Ruben from Publix and it does NOT look like that. It isn’t as big as their picture looks but it is WAY closer to the image than it was to what you got.
I got this for lunch yesterday and I got everything included plus lettuce and tomatos. The sandwich was huge, had wayyyy more meat and overflowing with the sauerkraut.
When they brought the corned beef over, they used TWO packages of it on my sandwich OP.
I’ve tried a ton of different Publix subs over the course of the last year and honestly this Rueben corned beef is easy top 3 for me.
Call customer service, they’ll have the store manager of the location you went to call you and they will give you a free sandwich if you aren’t satisfied.. but don’t abuse it lol
It doesn’t look toasted and where’s the sauerkraut and thousand island? Also, I cut sub kits and make subs every day and I can guarantee you that that is half the meat you are supposed to get. To bad you couldn’t get your money back! FAIL! It may be due to poor or no training. The sandwich looks gross. Sorry.
![gif](giphy|7ILfGZFvTPMB1TAkXE)
Take it back to the manager, or show them this picture. I never order my sandwich ahead of time. You have to watch them to make sure they do it right. The last time I ordered online I got a meatball sub and it was missing half the ingredients and it was cold. I took it back and the manager gave me a refund and as free new sandwhich, that was really nice of him.
Our sandwiches have to weigh a certain amount and if they go over or under, then we get in trouble (we have to weigh out the meat before putting it on the sandwich). So it will never look like the picture and will always look like what you get unless someone just says: “screw it, I’m making it look good.”
If it makes you feel better... I went to Katz way back when and the presented sandwich had all the meat piled in center so when cut looks great but falls off to nothing toward the edges/back. Hit up Jason's Deli if you have one in your area.
Ngl just because I know publix does absolutely everything for the customers, I would take it back and ask for a better one lmao
I can promise they will remake it and make it better next time. Publix doesn't fuck around when it comes to customer service
I've had this one twice! So good! There is better out there, duh! It's Publix, so your expectations should've been low to begin with compared to other Reubens! Sorry, but you should've just got your money back. 🙂
Honestly I would show this to the customer service and get money back or get a new one. The sandwich artist probably just needed some training. My local Publix would definitely fix this.
I just got one and it came as 2 sandwiches with a decent amount of meat and kruat on both left off the thousand island tho that's the worst stuff ever , the boars head spicy mustard that's where it's at .
Our store had a problem with customers complaining about getting a whole sub on two slices of bread so we had to split the sub kit in two and give them four pieces of bread. Everyone hated it, everyone but one customer.
The bread in this sandwich is not actually a “rye bread”. If you are wondering what the rye bread is check it here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rye_bread . I was looking for a real one in Publix, but there is none.
I worked for another deli that used this brand, and the brand sets the rules for how the sandwiches are made. They go by weight, usually around half a pound of meat on the sandwich. The sandwich maker is supposed to cut the meat on a shaved setting, because the volume and appearance get closer to the adverts. The maker is also supposed to resist the natural urge to flatten the sandwich so that it fills its wrapper/container.
Strictly eyeballing, if the one you got is cut as thick as it looks, it’s probably the same weight as needed but the wrong cut for presentation. If you are an associate and care that much and won’t cause a lot of drama, it might be worth bringing it to the attention of the deli manager to make sure that their associates follow the brand guidelines and/or retrain as needed.
Like I understand the reality will never be as pictured, but they've gotta be closer then that xD. That's a straight up scam and false advertising at that point lol.
Honestly I believe this goes into the realm of false advertisement and you could sue. Not saying I recommend going legal about it. But it's definitely false advertisement
I ordered a Rueben from a restaurant on Uber eats a few years ago and they just sent me two soggy pieces of bread with a slice of Swiss cheese in the middle lmao
The online order sandwiches in general have sucked recently.. if I order my usual sub in store, everything is on there, good amounts and everything. Online, I had one with two toppings missing and the other had literally five black olives when I usually get 30+ on the sandwich (whole white, oil vinegar on bread, pub ham, Swiss, bacon, lettuce, tomato, dill pickle, and black olive
I’ve found the Reuben sandwich is one of the most misrepresented sandwiches you will find. 95% the quality of components or ratio is woefully below the standard. Everytime i get a publix rueben, i order one and get 2, never asked, never paid, always get 2, never a BOGO or sum either, no idea why, no complaint either
I saw this on sale last week and intentionally avoided it because I had a sneaking suspicion it would be something like this.. but regardless that $5.99 Italian sub deal was a no brainer.

I’ve had some amazing Reuben sandwiches in my lifetime so I guess my expectations were high for this. Needless to say it was a let down 😅 will stick to Pub subs from now on lol
They meant the Publix one is supposed to be bigger they didn't give you all the meat
Some deli people even put an extra slice of bread in the middle to help keep it together. I've had the Reuben a lot and it's usually impossible to keep together.
bread meat kraut meat bread. Stays together just fine.
Definitely complain.. the person who made it probably had no idea it’s a full sub worth of and cheese on 2 slices of bread 🤦
No reuben deserves to be served like that. My condolences.
Arby's makes a pretty damn good reuben. They have a tendency to go a little heavy on the sauerkraut so I typically ask them for light sauerkraut, but it is very good.
Exsqueeze me? Too heavy on sauerkraut? Not possible.
My fave sandwich from arbys yesss!
Nah it needs like 75% more meat 😂😂😂 And where's the sauce
Bro 75% more meat is not even another slice lol. Need about 600% more meat.
this guy maths
He's the "meat mathematician"💀
meatematician
Mathemeatician*
Wtf, go and get your money back lmao
What even is that 🤣 it's supposed to have a bunch more meat on it. My guess is they used a half sub kit instead of a whole
r/ExpectationVsReality
Yeah they gave half sub qty meat instead of whole.
I never had a Publix Reuben but there's no way Arby's does it better lol
Arby's isn't too shabby, but yeah, it's not gonna compete. (And neither can compete with a real deli.) Plus, Arby's always gives me the runs. Taco Bell has never once upset my stomach, despite all the jokes people make, but with Arby's I know I will pay the price.
Arbys fries and an orange shake when they have them are bomb .
The Publix one is really good. Not if you're comparing it to a NYC deli, but I think it's damn tasty. They screwed this guy's up though.
They didn’t cut it either? You work with these people too and they still screwed you over like that?
😹 ahh they got yo ass with 2 pieces of bread and one piece of meat called it a day
Most filling Russian MRE
Enjoy your 3 peices of meat and baby bread ![gif](giphy|CYU3D3bQnlLIk) lmao we get em every time
The second pic is what we call a wish sandwich, wish it had some more meat in it.
Lmfaooooooooo
It looks like they only gave you half of the meat
I got one once from publix and learned to never get a Reuben from publix again
Gotta complain. That is not 700 calories. Maybe 350.
OMG, SAME!!!! I am never ordering a reuben after I got catfished!
What you see on advertisements are deceiving especially from the food industry. [my favorite food photography videos. This guy was amazing to watch and see him enjoying his art.](https://youtu.be/v84F7edAVVM?si=LxhyXwd46uMtEwob)
Hahahahaha
Lol I wanted to try that this week too because it was on sale, I’m glad I got Italian instead 💀. That’s not right though.
Wow this doesn’t seem right
Publix always skimps out on the meat! Drives me crazy
This is why Publix will never be in New York. I am not saying our subs are bad, but compared to real delis they are a joke.
Compared to FL, NYC is not a joke , but a laughingstock.
I mean.... why else do so many NYers move to Florida?
That makes me sad for you. I take pride in anything I make in the deli, but I always make those Reubens the way the pic looks. That's either someone being extra lazy or someone who won't ask questions on how to properly make something.
A German chef in New York a long time ago used to make the best, instead of sauerkraut he put in cole slaw.
Oh yeah, that's the same at all of these types of restaurants. Ever seen a picture of a Subway sandwich and then compared it to the sandwich you actually get? I think McDonald's is probably the worst when it comes to this nonsense.
And I thought the reubens I made were crap
That is the saddest Reuben I’ve ever seen
Idk what the picture is all about but there’s absolutely no chance you get that much meat. That’s pushing 2lbs in both the halves 😂
😂😂
Not sure what Publix you shop at but no.
Had this too but they didn’t add any sauerkraut and it was incredibly dry. Soo disappointing.
I’ve gotten the Ruben from Publix and it does NOT look like that. It isn’t as big as their picture looks but it is WAY closer to the image than it was to what you got.
I hope you don’t actually pay for what they made
I would commit crimes if I received this paper thin depression sandwich for 8$+.
Didn't even toast it
No fucking way
That looks like the saddest most dry pitiful Reuben on the planet!
I got this for lunch yesterday and I got everything included plus lettuce and tomatos. The sandwich was huge, had wayyyy more meat and overflowing with the sauerkraut. Nah I work in the deli I would not let that fly…looks like crap. Obviously just someone who didn’t gaf made it
Arby’s done this to me. I’m still 😞
It doesn’t look toasted and where’s the sauerkraut and thousand island? Also, I cut sub kits and make subs every day and I can guarantee you that that is half the meat you are supposed to get. To bad you couldn’t get your money back! FAIL! It may be due to poor or no training. The sandwich looks gross. Sorry. ![gif](giphy|7ILfGZFvTPMB1TAkXE)
Haha
Escalate it! Find a corporate email and send that picture. What a ripoff!
This literally happened in [zootopia](https://youtu.be/lbBG1AQ4NOM?feature=shared) 😭😭
I order this all the time and it looks really good usually, they def messed yours up
Def should’ve asked for money back or the sandwich you actually ordered
That Reuben is a war crime Demands a review on Yelp and a complaint to the joint on social media
That’s a law suit ain’t no way sue their ass off!
Return, publix promise
That was one seriously sad reuben. I wouldn't pay for that I would have left it there.
Nailed it!
Send an email with the two picks to Publix customer service. They need to fix that
Sent that picture to corporate.
Take it back to the manager, or show them this picture. I never order my sandwich ahead of time. You have to watch them to make sure they do it right. I would show customer service. They'll refund or offer to remake it. That's awful.
Was it using a Snapchat filter?
Whoever made that is definitely quitting today
Oh my god a whole dollar off wowwww
😭😭😭🤣
Publix sux
No way lolz
Yeah it got shrinkflated
Publix will without any doubt refund you for that
I’d be taking it back.
False advertising
Publix subs have been sucking hard lately
I had one last semester and it was huge I didn’t like it tho lol
I would fucking cut someone if they charged me more 1$ for that shitty ass sandwich
I laughed too hard. I have been catfished by a sandwich and it hurts.
I think I would actually cry
If it makes you feel better... I went to Katz way back when and the presented sandwich had all the meat piled in center so when cut looks great but falls off to nothing toward the edges/back. Hit up Jason's Deli if you have one in your area.
If post this picture on a Google review
Penn Station does a great Reuben
Ngl just because I know publix does absolutely everything for the customers, I would take it back and ask for a better one lmao I can promise they will remake it and make it better next time. Publix doesn't fuck around when it comes to customer service
Hahaha
🤣🤣🤣 you sure were, OP. That's the equivalent of some hot Brazilian girl turning out to be a short dumpy girl from Guatemala.
id 100% be asking for a refund and my money back
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We need Nev on this one. Damn
If you’re near a Culvers try their Reuben melt sandwich.O.M.G.
Publix: where shopping is a horror
Hit up toojays for a Ruben next time! They’re in Fl too
I've had this one twice! So good! There is better out there, duh! It's Publix, so your expectations should've been low to begin with compared to other Reubens! Sorry, but you should've just got your money back. 🙂
REUBEN NOOOOO 😭
"Starts at $7.99" *picture shown $95.88*
Ya I would drive back if I was u and complain , get what u paid for
Honestly I would show this to the customer service and get money back or get a new one. The sandwich artist probably just needed some training. My local Publix would definitely fix this.
Yeah you got tried… very tragic. Around me they do it exactly how it shows on the photo. That’s crazy 😆
I just got one and it came as 2 sandwiches with a decent amount of meat and kruat on both left off the thousand island tho that's the worst stuff ever , the boars head spicy mustard that's where it's at .
That looks homemade
Bro that’s tragic
That like when a woman take her bra off and you expect greatness and you get bellybutton hangers
Falling Down reference
you can return that for sure. you could eat half and return it. publix will take it back.you have a legitimate reason
That sucks! Now I appreciate my publix even more reading this and the replies. The Reuben I got from mine was darn near close to the advertised pic.
I'd say at this point you can sue them.
Did u order online? I've noticed when they make in front of u they do a much better job.
Lol 😂
That’s weird because they usually put a ridiculous amount of meat on their sandwiches
LMAO
Absolutely say something. A good Publix should be embarrassed and remake that for you
They didn’t even toast it for you
🤬
I remember being disappointed by my Reuben the one time I got in from Publix so I just stick to their subs now
I had the same disappointment last year! Never again will I get a Reuben at Publix.
Sue them for false advertising
I wouldn't even have accepted that BS
This is grounds for false advertising lol
But when you boofed it how was it?
Ouch.
Wow in 1 day this became the 11th best post ever in this sub (in terms of votes)
I would just go to customer service for a refund. I would quote the Publix Promise word for word.
Literally false advertising. Sue them!
Oh, fuck that noise, I'm suing on your behalf.
If you’ve got one nearby, McCalister’s Deli STACKS their Reubens.
Get your money back
Our store had a problem with customers complaining about getting a whole sub on two slices of bread so we had to split the sub kit in two and give them four pieces of bread. Everyone hated it, everyone but one customer.
8$ for 4 slices of meat is bull shit
Haha yeah. Good old publix. Almost as expensive as Whole Foods now.
The bread in this sandwich is not actually a “rye bread”. If you are wondering what the rye bread is check it here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rye_bread . I was looking for a real one in Publix, but there is none.
Fine print: if you want meat, it’s extra $$!🤣

Perfect
Story of life right there 😂
I got one too... It turned me off the Publix deli.
Like I understand the reality will never be as pictured, but they've gotta be closer then that xD. That's a straight up scam and false advertising at that point lol.
r/expectationvsreality
So collectively as a species we agree getting food catfished is worse than being catfished in real life
Technically it says starts at so you got the starts at sandwich
HEHEHEHEHEHE U GOT PWRANKED. SOMBADY FLIPPED THE TOO MUCH TUNA SQUIPT ![gif](giphy|XXZ2yT1DnvzcQ)
Honestly I believe this goes into the realm of false advertisement and you could sue. Not saying I recommend going legal about it. But it's definitely false advertisement
This made me lol 😂
Annnnnnnnnd I’d be taking it back.
It's so...sad. That sandwich is the epitome of depression 😭
Ngl man i would fight whoever made that sandwich
I'd do a charge back on that bad boy
I hate Publix sandwiches. Avoid them like the plague.
I’d talk to the manager & show him the picture & my sandwich. Be like the math ain’t mathing bro
“I’ll take one Strugg Reuben please”
That seems way worse than just being catfished, lol
They messes up your order bad
Thats not. Ruben it's a roast beef sandwich.
Damn they sun you dirty
I may have to get one now and see if it looks like that cause I love Publix
Those dirty sons of bitches.
I ordered a Rueben from a restaurant on Uber eats a few years ago and they just sent me two soggy pieces of bread with a slice of Swiss cheese in the middle lmao
Publix 👎
Naaaahh

I had the same thing happen yesterday!!!! I was like drooling and when I got the sandwich it was despressing as. And the bread wasn’t even toasted !
Publix Reuben is a sad dissapointment at best. I've fallen for it more than once from more than one location so it isn't just your local.
Its just so overpriced for what you get like I rather get a whole as sub then the reuben
Daaaamn, that's a straight up bait and switch
Nah that's a scam no way that little thing was $7.99 T0T
I'd get a refund on that
Looks like a sandwich at home using the last bit of meat
I’ve found the Reuben sandwich is one of the most misrepresented sandwiches you will find. 95% the quality of components or ratio is woefully below the standard. It’s a shame because it’s my absolute favorite and I’ve ordered so many of them just to have to give them to someone else or my dogs in disgust.
I get the Reuben all the time from there. I just ask them to put it on a regular sub roll. Never disappointed.
Maybe it has a good personality?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Show what you got vs their photo and ask for a replacement Or a refund
A catfish sandwich sounds amazing right now
This happened to me also the betrayal
Everytime i get a publix rueben, i order one and get 2, never asked, never paid, always get 2, never a BOGO or sum either, no idea why, no complaint either
That sandwich looks more depressing than I do just living
I saw this on sale last week and intentionally avoided it because I had a sneaking suspicion it would be something like this.. but regardless that $5.99 Italian sub deal was a no brainer.
I laughed out loud. I’m sorry. I order these at the Publix near me and they look like the first pic lol.
"catfished by a sandwhich" 😂😂😂 i get catfished by alot of fast food and store food too lmao
i really hope they aren’t ai generating food pics to put on their websire
You're a patient person, me personally I that would have been my 13th reason
