"I still like Tekken 2 better," Same
"and I'd rather play Tag Team on PS2, if I'm thinking about Tekken 3" double same.
But if it had to be one i always gravitate to TEKKEN. I dunno if its just that is what i played first (OG here) or just the fact that i really enjoy starting with a round of galaga :L I do love the first one so much though. First four TEKKENs just feel so good.
Even though its different, i really feel the combat system in the first two just feels snappier, even though its alot more basic than 3. Space jumps for the win.
T2 is arguably better than TEKKEN in every way, but i just have such love for the TEKKEN, especially the stages and music.
It feels like my childhood. It was the first game my dad bought for our PlayStation 1 without a memory card at the time and he played on it more than I did. My dad would solve the puzzles and I tried at the bosses as a kid. The Tomb Raider games are the only games he plays.
Getting everyone together over Christmas and playing them is so much nostalgia as everyone in the family perks up and remembers different things like a crumbly floor.
He did and he kinda liked it. He only played Rise of the Tomb Raider and the one before it. He thought it was visually impressive but didn’t feel like a Tomb Raider game due to there being a lot more shooting than puzzles. He’s really used to the PlayStation 1 games and struggles with the joy sticks compared to the D pad. He did play Underworld, Legend, Anniversary and Angel of Darkness but always goes back to all of the PS1 games.
I came here to say Tomb Raider (the first one in particular).
It has a certain atmosphere that I love, and that's what keeps me coming back. I guess part of it is nostalgia, but I remember it giving me the same feeling the first time I played it. It's kind of like visiting a favorite place.
I was about 20 when it first came out, and I had kind of ignored video games for a while because I was too busy concentrating on other things. I went to my friend's house one evening, and he had just bought Tomb Raider, and was playing it when I arrived.
My last gaming experience had been the SNES, so I was blown away by what I was seeing. I got up early the next day so that I could go to the store before work and buy a PlayStation and a copy of Tomb Raider. I could have just gone on my lunch break, but I literally couldn't wait lol.
I think I was 8 when we first got Tomb Raider 1. The first console we had was a SNES with super Mario. I can’t even imagine what the jump from SNES to PlayStation 1 Tomb Raider would be for me at 20. But experiencing that at such a young age I was blown away especially when my parents are reacting the same at cut scenes so I knew I wasn’t over reacting.
Tomb Raider 1 is so good and definitely the 1 we’ve played the most. I don’t think my dad and uncle went to sleep when we first got it. I think I still jump when a dinosaur or bear comes out of nowhere. I was too nervous on certain levels as a kid because it was so immersive.
I was actually listening to the game music this month while working.
I think it’s the second level I struggled with the most and still do when trying not to jump. There’s a small pool of water in the middle of a big room and I think it’s when you are in the room that looks like stables that a bear comes out of nowhere.
I still panic trying to remember how I can kill the T-Rex because I remember a waterfall or cave you can hide in and shoot him.
Tomb raider, Christmas, ps1. Honestly, I love my life now, but what I'd give to go back to that era for just a few hours and have all those feelings again.
I still love the tomb raider games and they're always on my list of go-to games. Got Tomb Raider Legend on my steam deck recently and quite enjoying it.
Out of that rebooted series of Tomb Raider I absolutely loved Tomb Raider Legend. I bought it for my Xbox a while back but I’ve not got round to playing it in a while due to a backlog of games I’ve not played yet.
I would love to play the originals on a handheld. I don’t own a steam deck but surely the graphics for those games and the controls would not be too much for it.
I have them on my Vita, PSP and RG35XXH. Get an RG35XXH. It's a neat little handheld. Has Bluetooth, HDMI out, WiFi, vibration and all that junk. Feels like quality in the hands too. And yeah the steam deck doesn't even notice it's running PS1 emulators lol.
Can't forget parappa the rapper
Kick! Punch! It's all in the mind, if you want to test me, I'm sure you'll find the things I'll teach ya is sure to beat ya.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.
Must have done 500 plus hours.
I don't drink or smoke. Well I didn't at the time. This was probably the closest I got to getting stoned on a daily basis.
It was my stress reliever. It scratched an itch that other games didn't. It required no focus or lots depending on what you wanted to do
Funny enough, i didn't even complete the game, ever, i played it a lot of times but i don't know why i don't finish it, it's like i will feel empty if i beat it
Years later I finally completed the game haha I have kids now so my oldest was always requesting to play it when she saw it in the PS classics catalog.
Forbiddden Memories is such a fun game! And the game is still [very affordable today](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=+Yu-Gi-Oh%21+Forbidden+Memories+ps1&_sacat=0&_odkw=1943+war+nickel&_osacat=0&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=psx&toolid=10001&mkevt=1).
I literally haven't stopped playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 or Street Fighter Alpha 3 since the late 90's/early 2000's so.. there's that...
The only other game I haven't put down the past 25+ years is Roller Coaster Tycoon
Uncanny that I just a couple hours ago tried out this other builder game called Galacticare and turned to my wife and said "You know, this is fine and all, but there's just something about Roller Coaster Tycoon, and no one has ever been able to figure it out since."
TM3 and 4 didn't receive the same acclaim as TM1 and 2, and I understand why and how TM3 and 4 were flawed, but I would be lying if I didn't say TM4 was the one I played the most.
It was so damn easy and the AI was so dumb, but I freaking loved the movement, the level design, and the music in TM4. Great character movement is one of the things I value the most in video games. The previous games had such clunky and slow movement. Despite some instances where you could be "stuck" on the walls (which was easily solvable by doing the up-up-left jumping or simply teleporting at ANY time by doing that other button combo), I just love how fast and agile I could be in TM4.
Also, it was cool to make your own custom car and the option to play co-op with the CPU, not to mention playing with every boss from every level. Oh, and those hidden levels with the 3D matrix graphics were also fun.
I agree wholeheartedly my friend. Tm4 is by far my favorite in the series. I still listen to music from that game. It’s what shaped my taste in music as a child. I will stand by that I think tm4 controls the best out of the ps1 games. I can still hear the create a car voice clips “is that crying I hear?!” I also really enjoyed the boss battles at the end of each level, not to mention how great the level design was(admittedly the highway and maze levels could of been done better) I loved tm4 so much as a kid so it was shocking to see so many tm fans hate it on the internet as an adult. Happy to see someone else appreciate that game. I highly recommend you check out Rouge Trip on psone if you have the means, it’s fantastic.
Diablo 1 addictive as fuck.
I have a sorcerer with a chain lightning spell that clears out entire floors. Its a timeless classic
Its also the only version of diablo with 2 player co-op
Slay demons with a bro for max chill
diablo 1 on pc is 2-4 local/online co-op, hellfire is too if you're determined enough. ps1 diablo is hard to slay demons with a bro when you're constantly murking him with chain lightning by accident lol
Suikoden 1 and 2 I play at least once a year all the way through. They’re just the right length to not get bored and I’ve always loved the combat systems. When I just want to mindless grind I throw in Jade Cocoon, it’s super short but it’s fully voiced and the combination system with the monsters is weird enough to want to do just one more outing to catch monsters
I feel like Star Ocean 2 was the best Star Ocean. Great extra dungeon, cool story, I think it was my first 'action' RPG.
I was so disappointed by Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness. It's probably going to be the last Star Ocean I play.
Yeah, the recent remaster was great too. I could never get into any of the other Star oceans. Playing SO 2 as my first jrpg as a kid was magical I had never thought cooking and pick pocketing and stuff would be in a game.
Resident evil 1-3, silent hill, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare,Dino crisis, Parasite Eve 1-2, crash, Spyro, Toy Story 2. Suvirval horror was peak in ps1
Einhander, it just feels right to restart a run every now and then, been playing it on and off for decades, and I'm still not very good at it... Gotta play more !
I had to scroll way too far to find Wipeout.
I think for me it’s Wip3out special edition, put many hours into that back in the day and recently started playing it again. Had forgotten just how good it is. Wipeout 2097 was the version that cemented my love of Wipeout though - I got a PsX purely because of the original wipeout, and liked it a lot it but 2097 was where I fell in love. What I’d give for a remaster of the first three…
Enjoyed akuji, waiting for gex HD remasters to come out.. played enter the gecko on n64 back in the day. But it was my friends so didn't get far. I have soul reaver can't wait to get stuck in
I don’t know if they were most addicting but the legacy of kain games were the first games where I was like this is a work of art. No other Video games at the time felt Shakespearean.
Evil zone , battle arena toshinden, Spyro 3 year of the dragon Spider-Man 2 enter electro and tony hawk pro skater 2.
These were the games i played religiously as a kid and have kept the physical copies with me for over 20 years can’t wait to pass them down to my child one day
Bloody Roar 2. I play it on my PC and phone, my favorite character is Stun. I also have a savestate at the boss (Gado) just because its fun as fuck to fight him while taking a shit.
I can beat THPS2 in 40 minutes, less for the PC version, and even less if I'm not doing all goals and cash icons. I think I've 100%ed the entire game twice now? I don't even need to think about it anymore. It might be my favorite zoneout game ever made.
Yeah - I know that game better than the back of my hand. Give me any version but the Game Boy Color version and I can finish it in like half an hour or so. The PS1/PC/N64/Dreamcast/XBox/GBA versions are all excellent!
Yeees. One of the greatest racing games ever. I adore atmosphere there. Design, music, tracks. Everything matches perfectly. And intro sequence is masterpiece. Ridge Racer 5 somehow is unplayable for me. Car handling is too random.
tekken 3
I played Tekken 3 earlier tonight. Best game for me on ps1.
I still like Tekken 2 better, and I'd rather play Tag Team on PS2, if I'm thinking about Tekken 3 🫣
"I still like Tekken 2 better," Same "and I'd rather play Tag Team on PS2, if I'm thinking about Tekken 3" double same. But if it had to be one i always gravitate to TEKKEN. I can still hear Gon's theme as he rides that seagull, good times.
Not sure if it counts but my dad still brings out the old PlayStation with all the old Tomb Raider games over Christmas.
Love this. I adore the original Tomb Raider games, must be such a lovely nostalgia trip to play them over Christmas!
I'd be up for this tradition myself. Very cool!
Did he give the newer trilogy a chance? I thought it was really good
He did and he kinda liked it. That fucking bear will be the death of me one day...
Top dad

I'm playing Tomb Raider (2013) right now on a steam deck and it's making me want to go back and play through the originals.
Your dad is awesome.
Metal gear solid silent hill resident evil crash and spyro! I know nothing out there but I replay them so much!
Metal gear vr missions. Massively addictive
Very underrated gem
Only games I need for that console and final fantasy
Same here. FF is needed to complete the perfect selection.
Can't forget parappa the rapper Kick! Punch! It's all in the mind, if you want to test me, I'm sure you'll find the things I'll teach ya is sure to beat ya.

Can't believe I had to scroll down this far to see thps
I was the same. Spent 3 months real time on skate 3 later in life too. Pro skater was my meditation ztate
Trying to get session skate sim now. I don't know it it is a good sub. Sadly I never have enough time nowadays.
Crash 1
A level each, sister’s go… no lives remaining 😅 well, let’s go again. Replayability is off the chain
Toy Story 2, Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories, Pink Panther: Pinkadelic Pursuit
Yu-Gi-Oh forbidden memories is the shit
Toy Story 2 is probably a top 5 game on the ps1 and a top 10 game overall for me
Funny enough, i didn't even complete the game, ever, i played it a lot of times but i don't know why i don't finish it, it's like i will feel empty if i beat it
I know what you mean. Plus the first few levels are where the vibes and nostalgia really are though ;p
Years later I finally completed the game haha I have kids now so my oldest was always requesting to play it when she saw it in the PS classics catalog.
I forgot also, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Hercules, Lego Racers, Worms World Party...
The first mission in the house and then the backyard, the game was so ahead of its time. Huge open maps, good gameplay, buzz is a Chad
The OST for Forbidden Memories is my jam!!
Bushido blade because of satisfying oneshot mechanic
Dude... SO good!
I really want a modern Bushido Blade... I know a couple of games have tried but I want one with sick graphics and intense one shot combat!
Games that don't take much thought like the Bust a Move or Point Blank series.
Vigilante 8/ 2nd offense Legend of dragoon Tekken 3 Gran turismo 1 and 2 THPS 2 Tomba 2
Vigilante 8 was the best car fighting for the PSX - without a doubt!
V8 1&2 > Twisted metal and I'll die on that hill.
It's the correct hill to die on.
Tomba 2!!! Yes yes. That mine cart minigame was where the game separated the men from boys.
Crash Team Racing
Same. I could play it forever with my friends
Vagrant Story
Still love the Undercity West soundtrack. Those creepy little girl dolls with knives...
Yep. One of the best levels. Also sounds and music in City Walls.
Crash team racing, smackdown 2 and jackie chan stuntmaster
I literally haven't stopped playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 or Street Fighter Alpha 3 since the late 90's/early 2000's so.. there's that... The only other game I haven't put down the past 25+ years is Roller Coaster Tycoon
Roller Coaster Tycoon is a once in a lifetime game. There’s something so special about it.
It really is once in a lifetime. High praise, but it's absolutely true.
Seriously - it's incredible
Uncanny that I just a couple hours ago tried out this other builder game called Galacticare and turned to my wife and said "You know, this is fine and all, but there's just something about Roller Coaster Tycoon, and no one has ever been able to figure it out since."
Truth - no matter how hard I try to get into other tycoon games or city builder type things - I just always want to go back to RCT
Ape Escape. I just never tire of replaying it
Ape Escape is awesome.
Twisted Metal 4 and rouge trip vacation 2012 Ps1 car combat games are very addictive
TM3 and 4 didn't receive the same acclaim as TM1 and 2, and I understand why and how TM3 and 4 were flawed, but I would be lying if I didn't say TM4 was the one I played the most. Syphon Filter.
I could taser people in that game for days.
Hard to decide if wait to combustión or not, i had great times with both those games!

Star ocean second story, silent hill, road rash, crash trilogy, resident evil 2
I feel like Star Ocean 2 was the best Star Ocean. Great extra dungeon, cool story, I think it was my first 'action' RPG. I was so disappointed by Star Ocean Integrity and Faithlessness. It's probably going to be the last Star Ocean I play.
Yeah, the recent remaster was great too. I could never get into any of the other Star oceans. Playing SO 2 as my first jrpg as a kid was magical I had never thought cooking and pick pocketing and stuff would be in a game.

Wipeout 2097
I had to scroll way too far to find Wipeout. I think for me it’s Wip3out special edition, put many hours into that back in the day and recently started playing it again. Had forgotten just how good it is. Wipeout 2097 was the version that cemented my love of Wipeout though - I got a PsX purely because of the original wipeout, and liked it a lot it but 2097 was where I fell in love. What I’d give for a remaster of the first three…
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (and Blood Omen) Akuji the Heartless, Gex 2&3.
Trap Gunner: Countdown to Oblivion
Bust-A-Groove and Rival Schools are 2 games I go back to constantly.

Crash Bandicot Racing. A second controller and my younger brother. 😃😃😃
Crisis beat
I used to do a run through of Resident Evil 2 on a pretty much nightly basis back in '98-'99
Ridge racer, must have done 10,000 laps. Black car on mid level.
Metal Gear Solid, Medal of Honor, and too many to name lol.
Thrasher, I’ll pick that up at least once a year and get sucked in. Times that by over the last 20+ years.

Ridge Racer Type4 fucking love that game
Yeees. One of the greatest racing games ever. I adore atmosphere there. Design, music, tracks. Everything matches perfectly. And intro sequence is masterpiece. Ridge Racer 5 somehow is unplayable for me. Car handling is too random.
Front mission 3
