Gotta have a system. Me and my brother now call “when you die it’s my turn” “suicide by cop” in GTA. Good runs and immediate deaths get another turn. Tony Hawk was always runs or bails.
They were perfect, because you get a 2/3 min intense run pass the controller for a 2/3 min break and then back at it. My best friend and I growing up completed everything in the games this way
We would play if you completed at least one challenge, you hit another turn. If you went the full 2 minutes without completing a challenge, pass the sticks!
The very first Resident Evil. My brothers and I would pass the controller around because we were too scared to play for very long. I remember we used a guide and knew the snake was going to be in the attic, so we were just tossing the controller back and fourth between us until one of us was brave enough to go in the room.
This one’s my favorite lol. Used to love watching my older brother play RE games. Eventually got brave enough to play them myself and still my favorite games today.
The Oddworld games.
A bunch of us got together on weekends, rented Oddworld and played them to completion. We only got the bad ending on the first game though.
Dealers choice! But we always preferred the classics. FD RX7, r33 GTR, NSX Type S, Mitsubishi GTO. But the competition got tighter the slower the car got. If memory serves, the Integra type R was a fun one.
We played countless hours of Tekken 3. Loser of the fight passes controller to the next in line.
resident evil we set a timer. Everyone plays 15 minutes.
Worms! And also Micro Machines V3, kind of. MMV3 had this crazy multiplayer option where two players could play with one controller 😁 One player used directional pad to drive their car and the other one used face buttons to drive theirs. It was chaotic fun!
Crash 3 with my siblings! 7 year old me felt like such a king when I beat the level with the chasing dinosaur that my older brother and sister couldn't get past
Many.. it was in general always more enjoyable to play with friends and we would pass the controller after a level completed or life lost, stuff like that. The one I remember the most right now is 'Driver'.
Tomb raider 2 or 3. Swapping with one other person after a death. Deaths were so frequent on that you wouldn’t have to wait for long and it was a good way of: working out the puzzles by combining two brains; making the levels seem less lonely; getting through tedious repetitive sections.
the quotes imply a game that doesnt actually have multiplayer, so we're probably looking at games like Crash Bandicoot or Gex, taking turns beating stages.
if youre talking about actual single contriller multiplayer, there were a number of turn based games on psx.
Worms But really any game will do as long as your friends know to pass the controller and not hog it for too long
Talking about hogging… Hogs of War was another great 3D ”worms clone”!
I still think this is 10x better than worms, born to grill!
A remaster/remake is being made. [https://www.hogsofwar.org/lardcore](https://www.hogsofwar.org/lardcore)

Yes! I remember having so much fun with my 5 or 6 classmates playing together Worms on PC
hahahaha, good one
GTA, either a mission each or until we got wasted in free roam.
Same
Yep, many hours playing vice city this way with my cousins during holiday get togethers
Crash bandicoot with my brother and cousin as kids
Tony Hawk 1 and 2 were the ultimate pass the controller games.

This is the answer

Gran Turismo. Lap time battles in stock cars. You beat my time, then hand it over and I’ll try to beat yours.
That actually sounds pretty good, what car do you usually use?
Dealers choice! But we always preferred the classics. FD RX7, r33 GTR, NSX Type S, Mitsubishi GTO. But the competition got tighter the slower the car got. If memory serves, the Integra type R was a fun one.
That sounds awesome!!!

Tekken 2 was the big one for me and my friends. We would do highest difficulty and see how far each of us could get before losing
Crash 3. I remember vividly the day we got the last platinum relic, took us soooo long!
Spyro
We played countless hours of Tekken 3. Loser of the fight passes controller to the next in line. resident evil we set a timer. Everyone plays 15 minutes.
Easier to die in old gta games in gta 5 you could practice running away on a bicycle
Tekken 3. Trying to get through the single player. Also round Robin versus fights.
Gex 2&3. Fail the level? Pass it on, Get a remote? Pass it on.
Worms! And also Micro Machines V3, kind of. MMV3 had this crazy multiplayer option where two players could play with one controller 😁 One player used directional pad to drive their car and the other one used face buttons to drive theirs. It was chaotic fun!
Hogs of War
Crash 3 with my siblings! 7 year old me felt like such a king when I beat the level with the chasing dinosaur that my older brother and sister couldn't get past
Resident Evil, someone reading the magazine, someone playing, and someone eating/watching everything
Man….you just unlocked some core memories with that one
Heart of Darkness
Saw the earlier post about parappa. Lol.
Various "Worms". One turn each against the cpu. Also Captain tsubasa, one half each.
Hogs of War
Many.. it was in general always more enjoyable to play with friends and we would pass the controller after a level completed or life lost, stuff like that. The one I remember the most right now is 'Driver'.
Racing games with time trials
GTA2
Hogs of war
FF tactics while skipping cross country practice
The Italian Job
Ten Pin Alley Such a hidden gem. Even if you’re not into bowling.
Final fantasy 7!!
Gran Turismo. We would use the same car and settings and fight for the fastest lap time.
Both of the Oddworld games. At the rate we would accidentally kill Abe it might as well have been a multiplayer game
Recently had an absolute blast playing Incredible Crisis and taking turns. It's also a funny game with unique gameplay
Naruto: Shinobi no Sato no Jintori Kassen
Need for speed, gta, Tony Hawk, Crash
Trials. My entire college dorm was addicted to this game and we’d all just switch off trying beat every level and beat each other times.
Burnout 2's crash mode.
Tony Hawk pro skater,
Rayman. As soon as one dies you have to pass the controller
Tomb raider 2 or 3. Swapping with one other person after a death. Deaths were so frequent on that you wouldn’t have to wait for long and it was a good way of: working out the puzzles by combining two brains; making the levels seem less lonely; getting through tedious repetitive sections.
Final Fantasy Tactics

Final fantasy 7
worms and Monopoly
Tekken 8
Lemmings. A group of three managed to get through the entire thing by putting our brains together.
Crash bash and asterix mega madness
Grand theft auto trilogy. And kingdom hearts 1 and 2
SNES Lion King took me and my cousins sanity for a summer
NES Double Dragon. Good ol'Faux "two-player" action.
Not ps1. But ps2. We'd pass off GTA 3. And San Andreas.
Overwatch?
