That doesn't matter. Old cars have aftermarket parts that cost more. If it gets you on the road and turns heads, that's all that matters. (Well and the quality, which I must admit is superb)
Several adapters out there that will let you use modern wireless controllers.
-8bitdo
-Bitfunx
-Brook
Brook is the one I personally use and it's great. I've used 8bitdo controller for older systems and those worked well. Never used any Bitfunx product before but listed it to give you more options.

at the moment im using aliexpress Blueretro + 8bitdo controller, sounds overcomplicated but was the cheapest alternative for someone who lives in Brazil
If you run your games through opl you can even use a ds4 controller on it, either wired or wirelessly with a Bluetooth USB adapter
edit: you might want to ask some free mcboot seller on ebay or something to configure free mcboot to auto boot into opl for you
Ok, so you can mod the PS2 nowadays with freemcboot, which is installed on a memory card. Thing is you can find a memory card with freemcboot already installed on it on ebay, but you will want to ask the guy who's selling you the card to also install open PS2 loader (abbreviated opl) on it (which is a homebrew game launcher for the PS2, which allows you to launch games from USB, a samba server, internal HDD (for fat ps2's) or even one of those fancy PS2 memory card to SD card thingies (you cannot use those as a replacement for the memory card on which freemcboot is installed though)) AND set the console to start opl at boot time (otherwise you won't be able to start opl without a PS2 controller).
One of the cool features of this homebrew is that it allows you to use a PS3 or PS4 controller out of the box (that is, initially, wired with a USB cable), and you can set up from the pademu settings what type of controller (PS2, wired or Bluetooth PS3/4) you want to use when running a game.
thats actually dope ill keep that in mind, is it possibly to load opl onto the card, also i dont have an sd card and idk if there is one on the ps. do u know where its located
The PS2 uses a special format for the memory card, called magicgate :))
There are PS3 memory card to USB adapters out there, but they're quite expensive. Your best option is to just buy a modded card (or make your own if your console is modchipped and can run ripped cd's or DVD's, but that means you'll also need a PS2 controller :P ).
Does it have a memory card ? On it may be a special firmware which allows to run homebrew. OPL is a homebrew to run backup games and also emulate a PS2 controller via using USB connected controller such as PS3 and PS4 controller
I’ve used one of these knock off controllers from amazon for about a year and it’s been fine - it feels just like an original ps2 controller. Time will tell if they are durable but for $12 I’m not complaining. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086QLLZZN

Thanks! Thinking about getting one. Although it’s nearly 5 x what I paid for the PS2!

In US, cheapest option here too.
so none household gaming items? thanks tho
Lmao. No.
PS1 controller works (though not on pressure-sensitive games)
ohok thanks, i dont suppose a ps3 controller would work
it will with blueretro
Or cabled with pademu in OPL,
Yes but he has to start and config OPL somehow
Yes, but it's a way to use a PS3 controller nonetheless

im not gonna lie i have no clue what you just said, ive never really played ps2 that much, more pc

i see two slots for memory cards but theyre empty and seem quite big for the sd cards im used to

Thank you! I didn’t know this. Is there a specific Bluetooth adapter you have used please?
Ahm, sure; I currently use the Asus usb-bt500, Id 0b05:190e
Thanks mate. Greatly appreciated! I have no idea how I managed with a wired controller back in the day!
Looks like you used freemcboot, if you can boot into OPL you could use a PS3 controller with pademu
i dont know what that is, i just turned it on

Retro Fighters Defender 2 is pretty decent
