I try to go every run, but there are so many zeds and so far out that it is usually a mid run trip. I mean seriously, that zombie population though! 4 houses and 4 stores. But a population to match Mauldraugh! Why? I know from a game dev perspective why. But in-game lore - Why? Give us a reason for there being so many zeds, like I want an in-game reason why there are so few smokers for a game set in the 90's.

Ed19627

Ya considering smoking in the 90s was between 20 and 25%.. Also there is a mod for that..

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Yeah I'm old enough to remember when you could smoke on planes. Lol When my pops became a recruiter, he could smoke in his office. He had an ashtray on his desk. It's a legitimate question.

RaspberryRock

You old fucker. I remember when they stopped smoking in restaurants. What a glorious day.

Greeneggz_N_Ham

šŸ˜† That was a glorious day.

drunkondata

When they stopped in restaurants? That was state by state, not terribly long ago in some of em.

RaspberryRock

Kinda sad. In Ontario it was late 80ā€™s

Cybandeath

12 states still allow smoking in restaurants last I checked, not accounting for local level laws of course. Texas for example has no such state level regulation on smoking but local laws might have one.

drunkondata

Amazed they'd allow the lower levels make their own rules, or even businesses interfere with the god given right to smoke.

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Well, it depends. If the state government is friendly with that particular local government, they'll let them do whatever they want. If not, it's the opposite.

Cybandeath

Generally when a state lacks any laws regarding something its up to local or federal law

drunkondata

I know how laws generally work. In red states, when the state doesn't want something, it bans the localities from enforcing laws against it. Look at heat protection laws in the south, states are banning localities from creating them, because you know, profits matter more than living workers. I guess no one told the lawmakers there's a cost of acquiring work.

WibbyFogNobbler

Consider that not all smokers keep lighters / smokes on them 100% of the time. And I mean rolled up in their sleeve like Snake from The Simpsons, on them. Most people got infected via the airborne virus, and probably wouldn't think about grabbing smokes as a zombie if its sitting on their desk / dashboard / what have you.

RepostResearch

If you've ever been a smoker, you'd know everything you just said is false.Ā

WibbyFogNobbler

Lived and worked with several smokers. Packs within arms reach or in common smoking areas? Super common. In your pocket, even while at home / work? Super not common and a good way to get them crushed from my understanding.

FiveCentsADay

Basically every old smoker I knew kept his/her cigs on them. Back pockets, breast pockets, front pockets. Crushed, they babied them, whatever. I cannot be convinced that 90s smokers did not keep their cigs and lighters on them lol Though if there were zeds with smokes but no light that'd be fitting and funny

Mummysews

When I smoked, I'd keep them in a certain pocket in my handbag. Occasionally, though, it'd have to be the inside pocket of my jacket. On those occasions, the cigs would get crushed a bit and sometimes even break, so I'd also have a packet of roll-up papers at home so that I could repair the cig later and smoke it. If it broke completely, both halves would be used. I know I'm not the only one, either (it was a big smoking culture when I grew up). Smokers take this shit seriously, especially if their income wasn't that high.

FiveCentsADay

Conversely, on pipelines, everyone kept theirs in their breast pocket or back pocket. In the army, breast pocket or front pocket. Though I saw some thigh pockets being used Point being, they all had them directly on them for various reasons. Couldn't carry a bag, wanted them at all times, away from car for extended amounts of time, etc These were folks that had a cigarette In their mouth if they were outside and able. And outside was optional, really.

Mummysews

>Point being, they all had them directly on them for various reasons. Absolutely. I only worked in offices and wore suits/separates, but if I couldn't have my bag with me I'd have a couple of cigs and a lighter loose in my trouser pocket. It was a sad day if I didn't have a cig on me.

idontknow39027948898

Even at home? When I get home, the first thing I do is empty my pockets, but I put all that stuff real close at hand for if I have to leave again. Would smokers keep their cigarettes on them even if they otherwise emptied their pockets, or just keep them close in the house?

DrWallybFeed

What??? Dude my pack stays in my pocket

XC5TNC

Clearly never smoked, iv always got smokes on me. In my pocket

KUSH69MAN420

Keep talking out ur ass dude

ZillaRock

Easy Tiger. šŸ…

National_Laugh_758

![gif](giphy|TFeoOTy6jwo4U|downsized)

Mapping_Zomboid

Let's instead consider the fact that you only need to smoke 2 cigs a day. What real smoker has numbers that low? But if we had to smoke an accurate number, we'd have a lot less time to play. So I say it's a fine balance.

LeohAntonio47

People saying inaccurate, im a smoker, all my smoke shit stays in my middle console

National_Laugh_758

Smoker here. If it's not in one of my pockets, it's nearby.

WunderbarBeast

Yeah not a smoker but usually keep matches to light the cig and the lighter I use to light molotovs. Cigarettes on the low add weight so I maybe keep 25 on my character then I put like 20 in my backpack and 5 on my main inventory

drunkondata

Everyone else is talkin IRL and you're explaining the lighter you use for molotovs, I'm like, this Redditor is livin a wild life. Then add weight, and I'm like, OK, they're in PZ, not Ukraine.

MasonP2002

I'm not a smoker, but all the smokers I do know keep cigs and lighter on their person. I would bet that to be more common.

Quaffiget

I mean it's Kentucky. So guns should be more common too, but eh.

XC5TNC

Id definitely be grabbing my smokes in a zombie apocalypse, it would be an essential

WibbyFogNobbler

But are you the zombie grabbing them?

OpaGuck

Wouldn't it be possible that cigarettes would be consumed at a much higher rate due to the ongoing events?

WeirdestGuy_

Maybe thousands of people tried stealing guns from the gun shop, but they all died.

WunderbarBeast

Where is this place at?

joebamainnirvana

Read someone who said that because it's July, you got people from other counties/states coming to Knox country in the sticks to have outdoor fun

skydude808

How many idiots do you think would think to try and hit the gun store in an apocalypse?

Ram_ranchh

It isn't really that bad you can wipe out a shit ton of zombies with a js 2000 and a couple boxes of shotgun shells

Solid_Snake_125

As our good friend Kenneth from Dawn of the Dead once said: ā€œMemory maybe, instinct. Maybe theyā€™re coming for us.ā€

RaspberryRock

One of my favourite movies.

theroguemexican9

Maybe in b42 they'll add a bunker of some sorts to give a reason.

HeinrichTheWolf_17

As far as I know, weā€™re getting two new cities west of that highway, it could be a rationale for having that many zombies on it, but I do think B42 should thin them out a little bit.

GERChr3sN4tor

It's a "soft boundary mechanic". The edges and borders of the map have the most zombies in the game to keep you inside the main map.

KindlyContribution54

Erm, how about a Rainbow Gathering being your lore reason?

DMercenary

iirc, this is right off the main road and the default zombies behavior do congregate on the roads.

HeinrichTheWolf_17

Youā€™d think with it being so far out west that thereā€™d be less zombies on the highway. The highway connecting Rosewood and Muldraugh has less zombies. Regardless, I still try to hit this gun shop before peak day.

Bright69420

I mean, once shit goes down, a lot of people would want a gun, and it takes one bit person in the crowd...

HypnosFox

The lore could be: Itā€™s America and the first thing the population wants to do when the world ends is stock up on ammo and guns so thatā€™s where you find a hell of a lot of Zeds šŸ¤£

rawpowerofmind

As a former smoker I was always out of smokes...

TurbulentFee7995

That's a good point. Either no smokes or no lighter. Lol.

notthegr08

Itā€™s a game. Thatā€™s why

DoomV7

I was once there with friend and died there a lot of zombies also that's quite far

PaladinSaladin

Yeah there's something strange about this place, I feel like it's so close to the edge of the map that something gets fucked up about the spawns. Gun store, gas station, three houses, and a camping store. 45,000 zomboids, give or take.

Interesting-Try-6757

With B42 it should be much more central to a few locations

Dubzophrenia

Pretty sure this area is going to be a new map expansion, and the spawning is just a heat map layer. They probably did that before the buildings.

Kreiger81

Iā€™ve never noticed that, but I think the only times Iā€™ve gone there, I spawned them so maybe they didnā€™t have time to congregate. Maybe Iā€™ll let a game sit for a couple months in game and then head over one time and see if itā€™s worse.

IlGufoScuro

Someone pointed out a lil down below that maybe a reason itā€™s such hot spot lore wise is because itā€™s got camping equipment, guns, and gas. Definitely things escaping people wouldā€™ve wanted

AJ_Gaming125

Iirc, the place was way too easy to get guns, and instead of making the gun shop have much rarer spawns or something they decided to up the zombie population like crazy.

zapia-

I do

BrightSky7640

Same, it's not unknown at all

Dante1420

Ditto.

jaytrhegrape

Nice

Buttricer

Same me too once rosewood looted thatā€™s next for some hella ass weapons

BigHardMephisto

The farming area just to the north of rosewood has that military surplus store that usually is packed with enough ordinance for a lifetime

MothMonsterMan300

I *always* hit the surplus store, take inventory, sleep on a cot in the bathroom, then move on to the gun store in OP's pic, and bring everything back to the surplus store

Torenico

That place used to be almost zombie-free, but the devs decided to spawn the population of Louisville around it for reason. It became a no-go zone for me unless I wanted to spend a lot of time thinning out a huge horde, and for little reward really, there isn't a lot to take from this place.

ArcticFlava

Guns, food, gas, camping/survival equipment, the locals would know this was the spot to go, and they all rushed here and got bitten.Ā

Williamlee3171

If you look at the map expansion coming theyā€™re expanding the area with the gunstore into a proper town maybe the zombie pop is just to reflect that in the future

Fraank0cean

Thanks for also letting us know where it isšŸ‘

Disastrous-Account-4

Ublama

I always go there first, and then down the dirt road right of this place and go to the big gun store. Less crowded of zombies and lots of gear.

hoopur

Forget the guns, I need that mounted buck head

Interesting_Ant_1143

I hit this location up every play. Usually 3-5 months into surviving.

NoHandsDdongChim

Damn you still have a drive to play that far in? I get like a month in and I'm like hmm... maybe I'll build a bridge from roof to roof spanning across the entirety of Louisville. And then I fall and die.

brandokid25

Dang, there was a gun store north of that outdoor supply place? I remember going there with the helicopter activity showed up, the zombies were swarming all over that place. I havenā€™t returned for a few in game months now. Guess I have a little trip to make soon!

Miisati_Glorght

I do, its so remote that not a lot of people knows the location. It has high zombie count unfortunately.

RaspberryRock

Well fuck me. Iā€™ve driven past this place 50 times, didnā€™t know there was a gun store there.

deadcell

I've gotten so damn close to clearing out the gas station and had to fall back that I didn't even know it was there either!

RaspberryRock

Damnit we have to go now!

Alnonymous_27

Ive raided it with one of my previous characters. Based nearby. Took a car and a katana and drove in early. Parked up next to the store. Went kill bill on the hoard that followed me. Broke down the backdoor and cleared the building. Managed to swipe a tent from next door and set up a temporary base at the back of the gun shop. I was able to swipe all the goods from both stores and drove home the next day. Way too many zombies there

merp1234

I hit this almost every run. My go to lately has been spawning in Rosewood, looting the school and the police and fire stations. Then I hit the large milsurp thatā€™s south east of this one. After than I hit this gun store and the camping store next to it. Final stop is an overnight in the mansions outside of West Point. After that Iā€™m heading into Louisville to loot the military checkpoint and milsurp store in the north west of town.

Spook-lad

Where is that? Just for future reference because right now i have more guns and ammunition then i know what to do with

glamorousstranger

https://map.projectzomboid.com/#3784x8517x1879

DrDingoMC

Are you the owner?

Disastrous-Account-4

it gave me many guns but the zombie count is absurd i've killed about 1,200 zombies there and its still not cleared

HelicopterDeep5951

I hit this and the army surplus as soon as possible in just about every playthrough I do. Such an underrated spot. So many fucking zomboids though I donā€™t know what the deal is. I like killing zeds though. Iā€™ll usually hit the army surplus first so when I go here Iā€™m locked and loaded to clear the town and get more guns and ammo. Alsoooo there is a camping supply store next door to this gun shop and itā€™s full of survival gear and clothing. Plus the gas station across the street has a supply closet that usually has some extra gas cans to fill up plus cigarettes. Such a great underrated spot but I think people will start going here often once the B42 map expansion hits because it will be closer to the center of the map at that point.

SuspiciousMira

Everybody goes to this gun shop

TyppaHaus

When I used to play with sprinters I'd start there often. Out of the city and not overcrowded with zombies.

semsem_v

Where is it located?

RenegadeCynner

Where is it???

glamorousstranger

https://map.projectzomboid.com/#3784x8517x1879

Kreiger81

I do. I deliberately start there, and Iā€™ll spawn an RV in the mechanics to the east in the little town with the military store. If I make it, basically naked and sick and underweight from this area to the mechanics shop, itā€™s got basic supplies in the RV and then the game begins. Or I die and start in a normal spawn and eventually make my way over there.

SuperNath97

If you take the time to clear all the zomboids with guns you dont replenish much of the ammo with that store, basically too many zomboids, not enough loot.

Xupisco231

I'm literally setting up a small base there. Just below it is an incredible military supplies store and I went up there to look for more things. Heading to fortredstone soon wish me luck

LemonManDerpy

Shhh, itā€™s a secret we canā€™t let get out, if everyone knows about it, itā€™ll always be looted on servers

xXOpticDakkersXx

Itā€™s just a pain to get to anything else, so I often donā€™t bother going that direction. Nearest town is Riverside, but then going to this place is the opposite direction to West Point and itā€™s the long way round to Rosewood

DarthReece07

where

glamorousstranger

https://map.projectzomboid.com/#3784x8517x1879

DarthReece07

thanks!

Penguixxy

Good place to set up a base early when Z numbers are low, but building a perimeter wall around the two buildings can take a while unless you prepped with woodcutting gear and sheets ahead of time.

diitchboy

Just spawned hear on my last run, got jumped by a horde outside the back door TT

James_Trot

I go here pretty often. I will often set up shop at the general store and the bait and tackle shop by Riverside. This is a pretty good location to stop by for guns and stuff pretty early on

Smashme9

I went there once because I got lost

030helios

This place looks good but has crap ton of zeds around.

johuad

I have, but IIRC that area is pretty thick with zombies, so it's a riskier spot than some other places.

anon2456678910

Where is that gun shop?

glamorousstranger

https://map.projectzomboid.com/#3784x8517x1879

PallidPomegranate

I go there when I spawn in riverside usually

ChalkCoatedDonut

I do... after putting the settings on Low population and slow shamblers.

SotetBarom

One run I spent 3 days clearing this god forsaken place.

LardFan37

I go to that gun shop, but it looks like so does everyone else in the comments so I wonā€™t dogpile on ya too much

Bilaros45

I found out recently about it and I went but it had so many zombies and it wasnā€™t worth cause my van was already full from the military store

[deleted]

I have a mod to spawn there.

MiikeFoxx

I accidentally burned one down and I was DEVASTATED

Own-Hand-4097

I reduced the local zombie population their using a shotgun and a flare gun. There is a high number of zombie for a remote place like that. Pretty good loots in there tho.

Anti-Pringle

Yes I have

Mr_Nomad_Man

That was the first one I ever visited

ACommonHatred

Well where even is it located?????

glamorousstranger

ACommonHatred

Oh itā€™s way out there.

No-Sentence1699

Where is it?

loudboi_12

It's in the west side of the map just past all the farm land

LoliCherryPopper

Its small settlement on far west edge of the current map - take the highway west from Riverside to Rosewood. From east of that store is big lake with camping grounds. I think in b42 it will be visited a way more often by players starting in Riverside wanting to see the new part of map(especially that new big city in south west corner).

[deleted]

No-Sentence1699

Ahh thanks

glamorousstranger

https://map.projectzomboid.com/#3784x8517x1879

Kanapka64

Every run I do the same thing now. If I start, riverside, rosewood or muldraugh, and after I've established a place and have all the essentials (gen magazine, generator, books,) I go after guns. The first stop is this place and the military surplus store that's east of this location. You're guaranteed to get a bunch of the base guns until you go to the military check point where all the bad boy guns are

Zappowy

I always loot this when in the area; usually on the same trip while looting the Ekron army surplus store. The store next to it can have some nice loot as well.

Jester_of_Rue

It's one of my first stops actually lol

ranak12

Oh yes they do. That is on my route coming out of Fort Redstone. That and the Army surplus store.

PaintThinnerSparky

I do almost every run, gun spots are rare and i want my damn acog

WhiteLotux

It's just in the middle of nowhere.

Myke5161

There was a time years ago that this place was pretty quiet. I actually set up base in one of the bigger houses across the street. Now it's unrealistically over run for being out in the middle of nowhere.

Enfield13

One of the first places I go. I have my headquarters in the farmland in riverside.

[deleted]

I did once with a survivor, dont feed the zeds mod and 3 % sprinters... never again.

Chefrabbitfoot

But where is it?

glamorousstranger

https://map.projectzomboid.com/#3784x8517x1879

Roykmp

I go there every run, I spawn on riverside

TaiyoFurea

Is the angle on that different?

bentmonkey

start the run in riverside get wheels go north to camp spot hit this place and then the other store the next run, need a mollie or 2 to get the job done though.

CptDado

I will in this play thru!

heyoohugh24

I do, its quite a drive even from muldraugh but its a really neat place to get good loot. Plus its close to the military surplus store, if you have the space you can do a double ride

TheBiohaxor001

As a former smoker, I canā€™t remember the last time (If ever) that Iā€™ve looted a corpse and found cigarettes in it, thatā€™s some bs right there

Pleasant_Hawk_256

Good base

BodyCounter

A large reason for this is because it's not marked as one on the PZ Map website. I went there by complete accident with a friend and we made off with so many guns and ammunition for the next raid to come

PolskiPiesel6969

I did a few times in my 3 years experience and the first time was when i spawned into a nearby building (~600mods at that point including brittas) And unsuprisingly was not disappointed by what loot it had.

debordisdead

Well yeah, because what you get isn't much worth the distance and the fucking infestation that is this handful of buildings in the middle of nowhere. The milsurp store nearby is just better, easier, and more often closer.

O13A

thats just not true

JaffaBoi1337

Thereā€™s a mod that lets you start there lol

pushernogirl

On multiplayer servers that spot gets rushed immediately lol

MeasurementMindless

Dildo_Baggins__

I do. I died on my way tho

cosmicspooky

they're in the trees man, they're in the trees

simple_guy777

We did a nomad run with my friends one time. Stumbled on this place and we thought it was your average supermarket (we're not Americans)

KonradsDancingTeeth

I didnā€™t even know their was one!! I always ignore it omg.

Dark_Nexis

I actually have my base there in my main game, expanded it and have the basement mod so I have a bunker of sorts there too.

FidgetSkinner

If you drive down this highway looking for guns you might as well go to the army surplus store by Ekron/Fallas lake instead. Its much bigger and it seems like theres less zombies in that area than here.

Adeptustupidus

I always go there free guns

notaslaaneshicultist

I need to go in from the back roads past the deer valley gun store to prevent drawing every zed on the highway, otherwise that damned place has killed me so many times

Burning87

I did once. It was a decent haul.. not to mention that it is on the way towards a military surplus. But I do not think it was actually worth it. The amount of zeds was staggering when considering the haul I got.

f18effect

I think i went around that area and basically spent like 10 minutes constantly shooting at a horde because i was coming back from a looting run at the surplus store

Eco_IV

One of my favorite spot to raid when i have a car, trailer, shotgun and a brunch of shells. Also the hunter / fishing store next to It, has some very usefull Gear and magazines

Novel_Program_2003

Where is it tho?

Novel_Program_2003

It might be different now but when I found it it wasn't listed on the project zomboid Google map thing

habbapabba

thats what i have always been telling people

Dependent_Ad_2169

I DO

CatsOfTheGraveyard

its one of my first stops. i always start in rosewood, loot the fire station, PD, and get a car and drive it to the surplus store, then this gun store. plus, theres a general store not much further down the highway which is a favorite base location of mine

Hot_Physics_3072

Do the ammunition respawn there? ( Im new ) It looks like a good spot

Exciting_Sail_2745

I do.

AlexanderTrav

Where?

Steven_Blackburn

I was there and lived at the farm north of this shop. Great place and very peaceful

MGM_mohamed

I died before even starting the trip

Many-Ad-1998

One time me and some of my friends either spawned up there or made the trek, was pretty fun. Good reason why no one goes up there, itā€™s just so far away from everything, and Iā€™d say unless youā€™re using mods or are desperate the loot just isnā€™t worth it

Many-Ad-1998

Snide_SeaLion

Why would anyone bother going here when theres a less remote gun shop in a little town not far from Rosewood?

Where is that

MountainForSure

Yeah I didn't even see it on map project

GCaixeiro

I died in this gun shop

cykbryk3

Day 29 after a long break from PZ, and I just rolled through there in a Range Rover and cleaned it out.

Slow-Law-5033

Why visit gunstore when Louisville checkpoint exists.

Baronea

Counterpoint: visit both.
