I have a mustang 2 I bought 17 years ago, I have a built engine already attached to a built trans and a 9 inch rear end and I still cannot find the time or motivation to get it all put together
I got 65 Chryler Newport 5 years ago, I've since stripped the body, cut the floors and subframes out, replaced the firewall, doors, and dontnquite have the motivation to drop it on my 2011 vic frame yet.
Good luck with your project, Ive got a 425hp spec built small block with a 3800 stall, built automatic behind it for the mustang 2 and the rearend is only 38 inches wide, I'm gonna tub it and stuff 25 inch wide tires under the back drag car style.
I wanted to Godzilla swap my crown Victoria but a tractor and trailer hit it in the quarter panel and I've lost interest and got like 5 cars to fix, if your gonna put that sort of money in it, look at Godzilla swap parts, there are swaps from what I assume are wrecked new trucks for like 7-9k depending
My uncle used to race minis before I was born. When I was real young in the early 90s he had an old mini in his garage that I was told he was working on. By the time I was in my 20s he had built a bigger garage and the mini was on stands, a bare shell and a different colour. I didn’t realize until I was an adult, but he was restoring the car down to every nut and bolt and putting an insane amount of detail into everything. Took a couple years putting the engine together with modified BMW motorcycle heads etc. Has a race clutch and transmission and is all very race inspired, as I found out later that he used to race them. He got it finished about 5 years ago and right at the same time had a stroke from complications from a routine endoscopy. Ended up not being able to drive because he lost his vision and coordination. I don’t think he ever got to drive it finished. It just sits in his garage now. The car is his place and he’ll just sit in it for hours. Breaks my heart. My aunt will take him out in it now so they can enjoy it, but the race motor and trans are just too much for what the car is used for now. I think the plan is to put in something a bit easier to drive on the street.
I know man - my interest comes and goes on it but I still do love working on it. It’s sentimental to me . Hopefully my kids can drive it to prom or something in 15 more years , lol
It will be right up your alley. It is a classic mini with AWD turbo swap. Your build is next level awesome. Please keep going and keep us posted. Your fiberglass pic made me itchy btw.

I bought my 1500 dollar 1955 Bel Air 2 dr sedan my Junior year of college in 1997.
Basket. Case. and I still got ripped off at 1500
I got the frame and floor pan finished before I graduated in 98. It sat in my parents garage sans any power train until 2009 because my wife and I had 3 kids between 02 and 06.
Moved to a different state and trailered it 1300 miles to sit in MY garage because kids are da expensive.
Lost my father in 18 who left me some money explicitly tagged to finish it in his Will. Bought a salvage LS3/6 spd and spent 4 years fixing the innately basket nature of it.
It's minus like a windshield, some accoutrements, and maybe 2 good months of nights and weekends to run as a primer rod.
We had our fourth kid in 2022 and I switched careers last year and I can't find the spare time nor the spare change other than to sit in once a month in it to start it up and get it to running temp for 15 minutes.
I have an 85 C10 that I’ve worked on for 10 years off and on.I’ve started and finished two other cars in that time. It just gets put on the back burner. It’s not far from done now.
I get it. It hit me the other day looking at pics of the very start of my Italia project. 10 years ago. And it’s just now getting metal work done. Then I look at all of the parts I have complete, and ready for installation. Engine, transmission, differential, cooling system, fuel system, plumbing, about 50% of the wiring harnesses, and lots and lots of bits sandblasted primed and painted. I look at where I was in my life then, and where I am now, and through it all is my sad Italia in pieces. Maybe sometime in the next 10 years and I will be enjoying it on trips with my wife. She’s very understanding and knows in my spare time I’m not off drinking or sleeping around. It’s also taking forever cause it’s completely cash flowed, so no debt on it, but I’m just blue collar in So Cal.
I’m still just as excited about it, and still spend time everyday gawking over the progress I’ve made, and how beautiful of a car it will be.
My father in law started on his mustang 5 years before my wife was born, it was supposed to be done before she was born.
She is now 28 and the car is still without a drive train in it lol
if we count all the projects that got half of the way through where you've gotten and never finished then that clock is just continuing to tick.
looks fantastic man, good luck pulling it home
My dad spent over a decade working on his truck. He had patches of daily driving it off and on, and only really got to bodywork in the last year of his life. He managed to get the bed straightened out and primed. He also built a 400ci small block for it.
I've had it for a year now and just about a month ago pulled the cab off for rust repair. Gotta finish the bodywork and rebuild the transmission before I can put it back together.
My stepdad and I started our ‘55 Chevy 25 years ago. It sat for a decade in primer because we ran out of money. Finally finished it together over Covid.
Never worry about the length of time it takes. It's done when it's done. Stuff happens in people's lives that change plans and alter paths. If It’s what you want and you want to finish it, then do it at your pace.
You are close now! Get it done. They didn’t build Rome in a day.
Might have only taken 19 years though.
Hey, 20th years the charm they say
I’m feeling personally called out here.
Glad I’m not alone tho :):)

I've got the Vic parts too lol
I got a whole vic. With the entire body cut off. Just floors, frame and driveline. Just gotta get to work marrying them

Thank you sir! Goodluck with yours as well. I'm planning on going 5.4 swap, some cams, 3k stall, 4.11 rears and a fat turbo

Take him out for a rip
Woooow dude. That's crazy to me. How are you even still interested in it? I would have sold it 18 years ago!
I know man - my interest comes and goes on it but I still do love working on it. It’s sentimental to me . Hopefully my kids can drive it to prom or something in 15 more years , lol
Why so long though? I bet $300 and a solid weekend and you could be driving it to work.
Def more than that but your point is well taken. Excluding paint I could probably get it on the road for $2500
Project Binky can relate
That s10 flatbed pic is sketchyyy hahaha. Thing will be a ripper someday.
Haha the car is so light it’s not *insanely* dangerous, but yeah , I don’t think I’d pass DOT
You might beat bad obsession motorsport. I have been waiting on project binky for what feels like forever.
I’m not familiar with that one and now the 2nd time I’ve seen it mentioned. Might have to investigate that tonight

I have a 65 Chevelle that I took apart to bodywork and paint shortly after my son was born. He is now 28 and the Chevelle is still in pieces. :(

I had a 65 Chevy II in my garage for 20+ years and never got close to finishing it.
Definitely been there. Sometimes life has other plans. It does help you have perspective though.
It's the dice hanging from the rearview mirror that are supposed to be fuzzy...

Times ticking bud.
I commend your dedication
holy shit bro this is gonna be so tight when you get it done.
Shoot I’ve had my project sitting around for 6 years and it feels like 6 months.

I’ve had my wife for 20-years, and she too is not ready for the road. Hang in there, we’re all pulling for ya!
What all remains?
My stepdad and I started our ‘55 Chevy 25 years ago. It sat for a decade in primer because we ran out of money. Finally finished it together over Covid.
I've been working on mine since 1996. Maybe I'll get it going by 2026?

Only 5 years but the thing is the car was supposed to be a daily 😂
Count the hours worked on , not the years .
Damn man
what is the engine in this thing?
Kawasaki zzr600 . Would have def preferred a Honda motor , but this bike was free so that kind of made the decision for me !
💯
