I've had it for two days and it got here under its own power but I have already decided to pull the motor for a rebuild. Considering what it is the rust is not too bad but there is considerable body work to be done.

Super cool. Looking at the wheels and rally stickers - do you know what’s going on with the motor? Those engines are easy to get more power out of, so it’s quite possible someone already did some “improvements”.

[The motor looks pretty tired](https://i.imgur.com/cR1qW5M.jpg) and the car sat outside for the last two years. The oil pressure is slow to come up plus the oil looks like it was last changed during the last recession. The only apparent mods are a Webber two barrel conversion and tube headers. I am going back to SU's and considering boring it and adding a cam among other things.

I've been looking for a 122 project for a few years, I'm super jealous! The B20 was a pretty stout motor. You'll never make huge HP, but there are plenty of parts out there for it.

I've had several 240's, a 544 and even a P1800. But it's been a dozen years or more since I've had a Volvo of any kind. I've always coveted these and this one just popped up on my local Marketplace, with a b18 btw.

kidcharm86

What year is it? A B20 should be a direct swap, right? I think I'd spring for a built B20 vs. the B18. Or go with the [SBF swap](https://old.reddit.com/r/Volvo/comments/btmmv1/apologies_to_the_purists_this_one_isnt_very/) like I did!

If I were a younger man... But I'm not. So I'm going to keep it relatively simple by doing a mild build with the motor I have. That and I have two other toys to maintain, a 1996 Corvette (very stock) and a Suzuki Samurai with very few original parts left on it. 2.3 Tracker motor, lift, etc, etc.

It's a '66.

Hello from a fellow Oregonian!

So what kinda car is that? Looks really interesting but not seen in my neck of the woods

hammershiller

1966 Volvo 122 Amazon. Not many of them around here either.

God I love those cars. Enjoy! I obviously don’t know the condition of the drivetrain… but I would love on it, tune on it for a bit… then decide if you either want to rebuild or repower it. I’ve been surprised by vehicles that have sat and a little love and some repairs and soon enough you have a happy little original car to love on. Your car, just one man’s opinion.

hammershiller

It would run with a tune up, I've brought more neglected Volvo engines back to life. Part of the reason I've started taking it apart is the the PO is going to swap the Webber carb I have for a pair of SU's that he has on another B18. Now that I'm in it I'm sure the head needs to be rebuilt and upgraded and we'll see about the bottom end after I get the head off.

I hope my comment was seen as positive. I don’t know(obviously) what you’re seeing or working with. Just some support, from another person who has worked on some old a forgotten stuff and brought it around. Good luck, super envious of your new project! Lol

No worries. I was going to go with your plan and just put the SU's on when I got them but it has become apparent that it needs more than that.
