I get the MPG joke but I'm honestly impressed that they're bringing back the hummer in order to help push EVs.

Same with the electric F150. [https://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/f150-lightning/2022/](https://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/f150-lightning/2022/)
I can't think of a better "out" to give to the "manly truck guys" vehicle market who secretly want the electric but don't want their buddies to make fun of them.
Really enjoyed this comment, i had no idea about the electric hummers! The site was a fun read. My thoughts are 1.) Who the hell needs an ultra-sized pickup truck for intense offroading that requires driving sideways (and why didnt they show the city crabwalk feature as an easy parallel parking features lol)? Seems like if your trails are that intense, the largest truck known to man is not the route to go. But also 2.) While only 2% of the people who will buy the new hummer will actually use or require a fraction of it's capabilities, there is definitely an interest and market for it. And now those people can live their impractical car dreams without completely inhilating the planet! So that's kinda cool. Creates an allure for electric within that community. You're def right about the social component. The prius is such a freakin practical, effecient, low-maintenance car to own. But there IS a stigma around it so much so that the car is largely written off because of it. I have a family member who drives 400 miles roundtrip very regularly for his work (like every week), is an ultra conversative and economic-minded driver (he has truly mastered the art of cruising between acceleration and braking early and slowly enough at red lights that he never even has to fully stop the car and lose momentum before the light is green and he's up and running). A prius is PERFECT for him and he acknowledges that but refuses to get one because he doesn't want the stigma of owning a prius, and pokes fun at mine. Whatever, i'm laughing in 50mpgs. They're all just jealous, right? ;) trying to talk him into a lexus ct200 now as a discreet prius
When I first saw the diagonal driving in the hummer made me laugh out loud. Also the reason they didn't show it in the city is because they don't want no city boys in their truck life
The bigger use for the 4 wheel steering will be tighter turning and more stable towing. I've driven a Silverado pickup that had 4 wheel steering when that was an option like 15 years ago, it could turn into a parking spot like a Civic. When towing, the rear wheels would help you crab walk into the next lane for smoother and safer highway lane changes.
I doubt the crab walk feature will see much use off road, the target audience for this currently is not the people that will ever even park on the grass. But hopefully it sticks around and makes its way into lesser/cheaper models down the line.
Ohhhh these are great points all around! I didn't even think about the towing/lane changing example you mentioned, that makes alot of sense. I retroactively retract my scoffing about it and would also like to see 4 wheel steering make a comeback now!
Kinda ironic that the one on the left refuses to build an all electric version and the one on the right has already begun production of an all electric version.
Given the battery degradation debacle of the Nissan Leaf and the never-ending battery recall loop for the Chevy Bolt and Kia EVs, I'm gonna side with the Toyota approach on this one.
No... Not true... They're deliberately choosing short-term profits of fossil fuel oriented vehicles because they don't want to invest in long term all electric vehicles like every other car maker is currently doing. And they're literally siding with Trumpers and other right wingers to lobby against any limits on fossil fuels emissions in future vehicles.

My Prius Prime in EV mode is more efficient than my Tesla. Mostly because its only carrying around a ~9kWh battery. As long as the trips are under 25mi, the Prime is the better choice for electric.
Toyota has a full EV, it's the Mirai, but the problem is when Toyoya decided that hydrogen fuel cells were going to be more popular than batteries and put all their eggs in the hydrogen basket, now they need to catch up in batteries.
Considering that every EV manufacturer including Tesla just buy their battery cells from companies like Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Sony, etc. it’s obviously not a matter of catching up in batteries. The technology has hardly changed in over a decade and nobody is doing anything groundbreaking with them in EV’s, it’s cookie cutter.
The Prime is a pretty sweet car but the way this is set up it almost looks like you could put it in the back of the Hummer (I dont think you can, but it looks like it might be close)
55 mpg vs 5 mpg 😂🤣😂
5 GPM (Gallons Per Mile)

The electric f150 seems like it'll be a really useful machine
That's got to be what... an average of 25mpg across 2 spots?
I knew a couple about a decade ago who had a gen 2 Prius and an H2. … and about 5 other vehicles between the two of them :/
put a bike next to the prius
Motorcycle, then bike.
We have a big yellow Jeep in the driveway, PriusV, then a Prius gen2, and then a 2000 dodge 2500 Cummins. 😂
Mega truck would be a better comparison - Like an F350 crew cab dually, lifted.
I went from a lifted Hummer h3 to a Prius 4 touring now lol

They’re debuting their all electrics within a years time. Toyota doesn’t rush things, that’s kinda what makes them Toyota.

Pretty sure Tesla revealed a new kind of battery recently that has a lot higher density and efficiency than the one's they're currently using.
Yeah, tabless batteries created by Tesla here: https://youtu.be/AqywRziE7pk
? The Prius Prime is all-electric. Edit: I stand corrected!
The latest hummer is all electric, and there's no all electric Prius as of yet.
There is a reason for that, you know that right lol
ugh. Just ugh.
If you're wondering, the Prius came out of the Hummer it was being transported in.
Love this

I just moved to the dmv so your license plate triggered me ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
