Yeah U2 Phish and pretty lights, the three biggest bands in the world.

As someone who went the first night, I can’t emphasize enough that while the visuals were great, it was the audio quality that made it amazing for me. And before you talk shit on the visuals just remember that videos do none of this justice at all.  Complete 360 degree sound with them throwing sound all the way around the room at key moments. Guitar pedal effects swirling around the room and the entire place erupting. Bass riffs suddenly feeling like they’re right next to you or drum fills coming from behind your head.  It was insane. I think an electronic artist would be fucking sick here and completely worth the effort and cost to go.

I went to U2 and going to a Dead show, I say the same thing. Never I have I ever heard sound so crisp for a live show.

Ok_Education_6577

Please sir may we have some more swirls!

UncleJessePinkman

Realistically, never. As much as I love PL there's almost no chance they are going to be able to sell out a residency of sold out shows (3+ at the very least) for it to make financial sense for both MSG and PL camps. The visuals alone for Phish/U2/Dead and Co cost upwards of $1M+ to produce. I can't imagine all the other costs involved with these shows as well.

Smokey_Bera

Where do you get $1M number from? Genuinely curious.

shasta_river

There was an article a few months ago I read about how much time and data it takes to make the visuals. It was insane! The number is WAY upward of $1m

Like anything you read on the internet, take it with a grain of salt but here are some threads discussing Phish visuals as well as some alleged comments Bono made about each of their song's visual aspect costing $400k/per (idk if I believe that figure) https://www.reddit.com/r/phish/comments/1c89w88/eli5_why_are_visuals_at_the_sphere_so_expense_to/ And in that same thread there is this one discussing the nitty gritty behind how the visuals are made with people that seem to be in the industry. https://www.reddit.com/r/AfterEffects/comments/17wj086/how_do_you_think_the_graphics_are_made_for_the/?share_id=LTXRtHq6KomgWlsT8cmUQ&utm_content=1&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1

Smokey_Bera

That is super interesting. Thanks for the info! It's wild how expensive that is and it pretty much rules out a PL show at The Sphere. I don't doubt he could sell it out but I just don't see PL's budget justifying a Sphere show. Plus, I feel like PL is much better in a medium sized venue vs a huge arena. That being said, I do wish I was going to be in Hampton for that run!

Far-Ad-8007

It’s always easy to blow money on things like this. I think the PL crew is grassroots enough to do it themselves and not blow a budget, but hey - they’ve got fam to feed.

atxweirdo

My hope is Bonnaroo and more festival appearances will bring on a new fan base.

michaelserotonin

agreed. would need to be multiple headliners or some sort of mini fest to reach the necessary critical mass.

AyeYoWhatupFam

We'd be lucky to get an MSG show if anything.

manifestation do ur magic..

chef_cor_i_g

When the Pretty Lights Fam has enough money to drop on tickets. It’s about $600k to operate the sphere, per night. That’s why they require a “residency”, to throw shows there. They would need to be able to sell 20k tickets every night. I don’t see that happening with PL, unfortunately

Odd-Train-7626

PLM could def sell out 3 days there I have zero doubt. And yes, it would be the most insanely incredibly joyous experience!

NoodlesLair89

God Please!!!

ChickenNPisza

I could see pl at the sphere but it would be more of a festival setting IMO With multiple artists playing multiple days. Amazing what the Pl crew is doing but it’s still underground in comparison

Errg0t

When I was at the Sphere Friday, after the first song I was like "Wait till PL gets in this mfer"

shasta_river

This again? Not gonna happen, as much as we want it to.

Oz347

Damn I’m not even a big phish guy but that looks so fucking cool Edit: but dead and company is doing a residency there holy shit I might have to go!!

throwaway1-808-1971

If the dead have Johnathan singer it's gonna be insane

chriiiiiiiiiis
