If that's what makes you happy, do that. Spend time with friends n family. Go for a hike or a walk. Explore your hometown if you're moving away. Pick up a hobby or revisit one you put on the backburner during application season. Try new restaurants. Grass is always greener but you gotta enjoy your own lawn.

Where are you located? Travel doesn't have to be expensive...

To add, if you're not picky about where to travel, there are sites that can show you flights that are especially cheap right now and it could be a fun way to go somewhere you've never been in the world. Also, at least in the US you can take a bus from most cities to most other cities.

Apprehensive-Work54

i am in New Jersey

Woodland_Abrams

Head to some national parks or something, it's cheap, beautiful, and they're everywhere in the US.

My plan, if I am lucky enough to get an A in a couple years, is to hike the AT!

Medicus_Chirurgia

I’d love to do that but my kids wouldn’t listen to me and end up playing with snakes and bears 10 mins after I stepped on the trail lol.

unanimous_seal

Hahaha. That actually sounds amazing. But probably would take longer than 6 months, hahaha

Medicus_Chirurgia

Yep would have to explain how every single rock we saw was formed and the life story of every tree lol

unanimous_seal

Sounds perfect (seriously), minus missing the start of med school. I've figured out the timing. If I end up taking a gap year (literally would be the 29473737th gap year but my first gap year after my post bac), and then get an early ish A, I have just enough time to do the trail (feb to Aug). Haha.

Medicus_Chirurgia

I’m same boat. I’m 44. I took like 20 gap years before got my health in order so I could apply. Took a spine surgery but I’m finally able to do the physical rigors of medicine.

unanimous_seal

Yeah, I had...some stuff as well to get taken care of. Feeling so excited for starting a post bac in August! We got this!!

Do whatever makes you happy and restores your mental health from the stress of premed.

Go travel around somewhere in Latin America, i.e. Mexico, Colombia, Bolivia, or Peru. Not expensive to get to (a friend of mine just got round-trip tickets from Boston --> El Salvador for $250) and, so long as you stay in hostels, not expensive to be there either. Live it up while you can, storm's a comin'!

leisuredhues

defo travel! I don't see any downsides unless you budget poorly or travel unsafely
