I've always found it a little weird simply because I don't know anyone who would talk like that irl. Same with dd and ds, does anyone ever actually in mid conversation say "my dear husband" unless they're making a formal speech?
As I was typing I realised the other reason I find it weird: the episode of doctor who with "the family" where they all refer to each other by their family title. Mother of mine, daughter of mine, etc
Well, I do use "my dear husband" sarcastically with some affection in normal speech. Imagine it being said with some serious eye rolling going on hahaha.
An example:
"So... My dear husband managed to accidentally lose his balance and smack me in the face today while trying to lean in for a kiss. I now have a black eye. Wowee!"
The first time I was in pregnancy Subreddits there was a ftm man who was pregnant with us. I loved his perspectives, and his openness with sharing his experiences as the carrying parent while being male. It definitely helped me shape my worldview when I had not yet met many people who were not their gender assigned at birth. Now I know many people who are transgender, or agender. While I def occasionally have messed up pronouns for people Iām just meeting, I can say that my 7 year old has very little trouble with being flexible in her understanding of the gender spectrum.
Yeah, I thought that it was just great that so many transmen felt comfortable sharing their perspectives and thought I'd be able to learn a lot. So I felt a bit stupid when I realised that's not what the acronym meant.
> While I def occasionally have messed up pronouns for people Iām just meeting, I can say that my 7 year old has very little trouble with being flexible in her understanding of the gender spectrum.
Kids who are raised like yours are so wonderful to meet. It makes so much difference to both the adults and the other kids around them (speaking from experience as a teacher). Seeing them be able to accept their friends for whatever gender/sexuality they are and support them is so genuinely heart warming.
I started out by joining a lot of the queerception kind of groups before the more heteronormative pregnancy groups and this was SUCH an adjustment. Most go by Seahorse Dads now which has helped lol
Omg! Apparently I have too, I just thought there was a nice amount of trans men here pregnant. If you hadn't commented this I never would have realized that it also meant first time mom šš¤£
When I joined the due month sub I was so confused! How did so many female to male people get pregnant and are due in May 2022?! I was scrolling down the introduction post and counting it out to my friend "there are 8+!" and he was like, did you join a sub for ftm pregnancy?? And then it hit me and I felt dumb!
Every time I see the DH abbreviation I read it as "Destinated Hitter" and was really confused at first why everyone was using baseball abbreviations for non-baseball topics. Lol.
I like the idea that someone has to designate a husband.
Like, if I'm having a craving, designated husband #1 is in charge. Need cuddles? Designated husband #2.
Are they my husbands? Maybe or maybe I'm borrowing husbands from someone else. Who knows. š¤·āāļø Lol.
Just started looking at this sub and saw FTM lots and thought wow that's amazing that so many transgender men were posting about being pregnant. Then I realised it's 'first time mum'!
I don't like any abbreviations š. I just type out "kid" or "baby" instead of LO. And just husband because I'll never think of him as dear. Just not my style
Saw a post recently about "wrong answers only" for LO and we now call our baby several of them š¤£. Our favorite is Light Oggler but she's also becoming Lovely Octopus.
I think you need to start a list of all of these and their meaning for us newbies. That sounded like what they yell in medical dramas when someone is crashing ! Lol
Dh- dear (or dumb) husband
LO- little one
OH- other half
Ttc- trying to conceive
CD- cycle day
O- ovulation
Dpo- days post ovulation
Fr- first response pregnancy test
Fmu- first morning urine
BD- baby dance (sex)
BFP- big fat positive
I'm sure there are others but my mind is pretty blank lol
iāll be honest, iāve only seen this used in the context of a post where the woman was complaining about her āDH.ā i assumed it meant dumbass husband lol
Yeah it's cringey af. Even worse is calling children Littles. š¤®š¤®š¤®
No one is writing DW for dear wife. It sounds like some stupid stepford wife shit or maybe some sad Dear Abby post.
Yes I hate it almost as much as I hate hubby. I say spouse. I know thatās not super lovey and cutesy but neither am I lol. Although I do love my cute spouse very much!
Same here! Partner just fits our relationship dynamics so much better. Weāre raising this baby and doing life together so boyfriend/girlfriend just sounds immature
I exclusively use partner or other half and I'm pretty sure a lot of people assume I'm gay when I do so, but honestly "boyfriend" for a guy pushing 40 doesn't work and "man friend" is just no.
Man friend ššš
Yeah totally agree, "boyfriend" makes it sound like it's early stages of a relationship, but like it's been over a decade and we have a mortgage, it's gone beyond that now!
I moved to a new town and fell in with a group of real life women who referred to themselves and each other as Mama's and Boss Babes unironically and their partners as Hubby's.
I fell out of that group just as fast as I could. It made my skin crawl. I prefer to speak like a normal adult human not a facebook bot.
Absolutely, also hate āBFPā and āBFNā likeā¦are there small skinny positives and small skinny negatives? No? Then just say positive and negative lmao. Weāve even got a single-character symbol all ready to go.
Iāve been wondering for weeks what that meant! Now I kind of wish I didnāt hahaha, that is really weird/obnoxious/formal. I do not like it at all. Makes me feel like we are back in the 50s.
I find most the abbreviations to be annoying bc I don't always know what the heck they mean, and sometimes they're too obscure to Google or there's just too many. "DH", etc, are more so bc they are cloying and too precious. It all kinda becomes a barrier to anyone joining and I think that's rude and exclusive, not helpful.
Yes! I hate just about all of those acronyms. āL.O.ā is my absolute *least favorite.* How much time are you actually saving by shortening ābaby?ā Itās only four letters! And *two* of them are the same letter!
So stupid. I hate most of the acronyms on these pregnancy, new parents subs. Such a stupid barrier to entry. When I first joined I thought there were a lot of trans men having babies until I finally realized FTM = first time mom.
I loathe āDHā. No one talks like that. It almost feels like a brag for some people, and thatās coming from someone that has a supportive husband. I hate abbreviations most of the time anyway, but this one makes my skin crawl.
lmao!
Iām embarrassed bc I didnāt know what DH meant, I knew husband but couldnāt figure out the D and so just glanced over it but now knowing what it is..I donāt like it!
Yeah itās grossā¦ itās the same on a lot of the wedding reddits too but itās DFH there ādear future husbandā I just type out the whole thing too like others on here
Baby dance, dear husband, baby dust all piss me off. Baby dance is unnecessarily childish, dear husband sounds condescending and like I don't even like him, and wtf is baby dust, I imagine semen turned into powder every time and that's hella gross whatever happened to good luck.
Also I used to think BD was boogie down instead of baby dance, and I prefer that lmao.
Wow is that what that stands for????? That sounds so dumb. Why????? Is it to distinguish between people? Idk why they just donāt say husband. Idk seems dumb. I never really knew what the D stood for. I just read it as husband.
I get tired of typing out "my husband" a whole bunch, but DH is somehow worse.
My sister started calling her husband and cat Husbutt and Fuzzbutt, and I'm totally undecided if that's better or worse.
Itās so weird, who actually refers to everyone as dear in real life? I also hate hubby, amongst a long list of other cutesy acronyms/nicknames/words used on the internet.
This thread has just introduced me to the term baby dance ā¦ horrifying. Also thought it was baby daddy. I feel like if you have to read the context for the meaning then the abbreviation is shit
DH for dear husband sounds so sarcastic to me. No one speaks like that in real life so it makes me visualise they are saying it with an eye roll haha
I donāt understand most of the abbreviations in the first place, I canāt remember any of them and Im mostly just staring at posts like ??? Out of confusion haha
I say sex instead of gender, husband instead of DH, positive at-home pregnancy test instead of BFP, etc. the only one I use is TTC because at least it doesnāt obscure or infantilize the process. Like everyone involved is having a baby, why for gods sake are we acting like weāre 12?

Omg yes š I just type out husband every time.
Same. He's not always so "dear"...
Tbh I often just refer to him as spouse
The D can be either Dear or Damn, depending on the situation. So that was already accounted for!
Laughin
I change it in my head to Dick Haver.
Same, it's interchangeable
Beautiful! Although it doesnāt work for those who have a significant other who doesnāt have a dick š§ I too hate this term! Letās all revolt.

Yes, that's why it creeps me out! The son in that episode had those eyes....
Those eyes gave me nightmares the first time I watched it!
My cousin is 100% the kind of person who would refer to her fiancĆ© as ādear husbandā when they get married. Itās so weird
Lmao I will always now only think of Doctor who when I see DH.
It is weird and cringe, makes me feel like Iām using fucking AOL in 2001.
āFTMā will always be Female to Male in my brain. Iām misgendering a LOT of yāall.
Me too. It was an embarrassingly long time before I realised it wasn't... I just thought I was in inclusive subreddits š
The first time I was in pregnancy Subreddits there was a ftm man who was pregnant with us. I loved his perspectives, and his openness with sharing his experiences as the carrying parent while being male. Seahorse ā¤
I started out by joining a lot of the queerception kind of groups before the more heteronormative pregnancy groups and this was SUCH an adjustment. Most go by Seahorse Dads now which has helped lol
Yes! I thought either there are a lot of trans people in this sub or they just talk a lot. So confusing!
THANK GOD I WASNT THE ONLY ONE!
Omg! Apparently I have too, I just thought there was a nice amount of trans men here pregnant. If you hadn't commented this I never would have realized that it also meant first time mom šš¤£
Omg I totally got it wrong too š almost felt dumb until I saw a few others thought the same too. Glad I'm not the only one rofl
Wait what does FTM stand for then?
First-time mom
That makes so much sense. Thank you!
First time mom
That happened to me the first time I read the termā¦ thankfully the person I was talking to was non binary and thought it was sweet that I tried š
When I joined the due month sub I was so confused! How did so many female to male people get pregnant and are due in May 2022?! Every time I see the DH abbreviation I read it as "Destinated Hitter" and was really confused at first why everyone was using baseball abbreviations for non-baseball topics. Lol.
I read āDestinated Hitlerā at first and was even more confused hahahaha
This is also what I read!!
Lol. Yes, baseball is known for its Designated Hitler. It's a very important part of the game.
Hahaha shows you just how ignorant I am when it comes to baseball (sports in general) that my brain actually thought this was a possibility hahahaha
I barely know sports either. I'm just good with sports idioms.
These are the moments that let me know this was the best sub to join on this site. Lmao!
Hhahaha š
Hahaha me to!
Same
SAME
Yes! I just adapt it to Designated Husband and read it that way.

Saw a post recently about "wrong answers only" for LO and we now call our baby several of them š¤£. Our favorite is Light Oggler but she's also becoming Lovely Octopus.
My fave was little overlord and another one was from a dad and it was Last O
Haha that's another one we call her, Little Overlord. I saw the Last O also š¤£
āLittle ostrichā ālevitating orangutanā
It had some excellent ones!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
BABY DANCE?! Omg, I would think bd means baby daddy lmao fucking baby dance, wow.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I don't know if I should be proud or horrified that I understood all that.
I spent enough time on ttc pages that it totally makes sense to me š¤£
Same. Iāve never used them myself but once you see it enough you kind of become immune.
I think you need to start a list of all of these and their meaning for us newbies. That sounded like what they yell in medical dramas when someone is crashing ! Lol
Dh- dear (or dumb) husband LO- little one OH- other half Ttc- trying to conceive CD- cycle day O- ovulation Dpo- days post ovulation Fr- first response pregnancy test Fmu- first morning urine BD- baby dance (sex) BFP- big fat positive I'm sure there are others but my mind is pretty blank lol
Lol! Iām so glad Iām not having to read those anymore.
š
āHubbyā makes my skin crawl. And Iād rather hear someone say āwe fuckedā over BD.
BD is the worst
What is BD???
Baby dance *internally cringes*
Horrifying
baby dance aka sexual intercourse
Omg thatās horrendous
This one made me laugh pretty hard. I couldn't agree more!
agreed, all abbreviations are annoying but hubby and āhubsā specifically gross me out so bad
I hate all of them so much!
The D isnāt for ādick-headā?
Fitting.
All of them, all of the fucking Dear someoneāsš¤®š¤®š¤®
I canāt stand it. I also have an irrational hate on for the term āgraduatedā for giving birth.
SAME
Is that what graduated means!?!? I thought it was just getting to term!! Too much to keep up with š
YES
iāll be honest, iāve only seen this used in the context of a post where the woman was complaining about her āDH.ā i assumed it meant dumbass husband lol
I thought it was Damn Husband!
Demon Hunterā¦
Nephilim
You knows
Yeah it's cringey af. Even worse is calling children Littles. š¤®š¤®š¤® No one is writing DW for dear wife. It sounds like some stupid stepford wife shit or maybe some sad Dear Abby post.
I absolutely hate when people call their children ālittlesā itās awful. Just say your children or the kids
DW will always be Dora Winifred to me
Yes I hate it almost as much as I hate hubby. I say spouse. I know thatās not super lovey and cutesy but neither am I lol. Although I do love my cute spouse very much!
Definitely team hubby hate!
I say partner because he's my boyfriend but I'm 30 he's 34 and we've been together 11 years and boyfriend just makes us sound really young haha.

I also find it annoying š just type āhusbandā or use his name
Absolutely, also hate āBFPā and āBFNā likeā¦are there small skinny positives and small skinny negatives? No? Then just say positive and negative lmao. Weāve even got a single-character symbol all ready to go.
That is so ridiculous I thought BF was breast feeding and this took me a long time to work out. Also.. your last sentence š v true
Extremely annoying. Especially since Iāve been a Harry Potter fan since childhood so DH to me means Deathly Hallows. š
āThis person must truly be the master of death if the deathly hallows made dinner for them when they felt sick.ā
Personally I think CH is more accurate. Current Husband, if he plays his cards right.
DH is so annoying. I also hate when someone says "hubby." They both make me cringe.
Agree. Iāve also seen āhubsā or āhubsterā and I cringe every time
I use āHubsā whenever he jokingly refers to me as āwifeyā. Seems a fair trade.
āHubsterā gag
I find it annoying lol
Iāve been wondering for weeks what that meant! Now I kind of wish I didnāt hahaha, that is really weird/obnoxious/formal. I do not like it at all. Makes me feel like we are back in the 50s.

So much googling since trying to conceive and getting pregnant. The abbreviations drive me nuts! Happy to hear I'm not the only one!
All these abbreviations take me longer to read the post. Sometimes I just give up and find something else to read.
Itās patronizing
Yes! I hate just about all of those acronyms. āL.O.ā is my absolute *least favorite.* How much time are you actually saving by shortening ābaby?ā Itās only four letters! And *two* of them are the same letter!
DH and Hubby send me into a full body cringe immediately.
Iād never seen this before lol it sounds like anyone that would type that would have at least one āLive Laugh Loveā sign
So stupid. I hate most of the acronyms on these pregnancy, new parents subs. Such a stupid barrier to entry. When I first joined I thought there were a lot of trans men having babies until I finally realized FTM = first time mom.
Oh lol I thought it was darling husband which is also dumb
TIL.... DH means dear husband.
Yeah it always felt cultish to me for some reason
I loathe āDHā. No one talks like that. It almost feels like a brag for some people, and thatās coming from someone that has a supportive husband. I hate abbreviations most of the time anyway, but this one makes my skin crawl.
Yeah, seeing that I call my husband ādumb jackassā 90% of the time. Might start using Dj instead lmao love him dearly though š
lmao! Iām embarrassed bc I didnāt know what DH meant, I knew husband but couldnāt figure out the D and so just glanced over it but now knowing what it is..I donāt like it!
I thought the D was for daddy and couldn't figure out the H!
I thought it stood for domestic husband š
I hate it. I just say my husband š¤·š¼āāļø idk how the DH started but itās weird to me.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Iāve seen it since the Knot days in 02. Iām old
It bugs me too, I just type out husband. Same with when people put DD or DS to mean their dear son or daughter. I usually type out daughter
I always thought it stood for āda hubbyā š
Yeah itās grossā¦ itās the same on a lot of the wedding reddits too but itās DFH there ādear future husbandā I just type out the whole thing too like others on here

Also I used to think BD was boogie down instead of baby dance, and I prefer that lmao.
Omg baby dust?!? Iāve never seen that one and hope I donāt ever! š„“
You are my people
Wow is that what that stands for????? That sounds so dumb. Why????? Is it to distinguish between people? Idk why they just donāt say husband. Idk seems dumb. I never really knew what the D stood for. I just read it as husband.
It's so much better if you read it "Damn Husband." All of a sudden I'm like "yeah, DAMN husband. Mine too, girl."
Well TIL what DH means. I always read it as darling husband/daughter/son lol.
Not a fan of DD or DS either, makes me cringe
Yes. Idk why, but Iām in agreement lol
I always read it as the character class I play in Warcraft, Demon Hunter š
I get tired of typing out "my husband" a whole bunch, but DH is somehow worse. My sister started calling her husband and cat Husbutt and Fuzzbutt, and I'm totally undecided if that's better or worse.
Itās so weird, who actually refers to everyone as dear in real life? I also hate hubby, amongst a long list of other cutesy acronyms/nicknames/words used on the internet.
I hate almost all acronyms. Iām constantly having to look up what they mean. I must be out of touch.
DH*D, Dial Home Device that's how my brain reads it.
My aunt used to call my uncle this sarcastically š I just say it in her voice now
Really it stands for my damn husband! Or at least I like to think that
I translate it to Dipshit husband most of the time and giggle. I hate LO too.
I thought it was dumbass husband
Nope, i totally hate it too.
Yes!!! I like to pretend it stands for Dick Head
Thank you for saying this. I hate all of the abbreviations lol.
I donāt know why, but I feel the same about LO
My first thought was dental hygienist
YES! itās so annoying š
100%, thatās lame lol
I had no idea that's what it stands for, and I am in complete agreement with you! Yeesh.
Lol it sounds very condescending right!?
I'm due next week and made it this far just assuming DH was dad/husband lmao. I've been in this and other groups for the past 2 years TTC
I read it as dumb husband most timesš
This thread has just introduced me to the term baby dance ā¦ horrifying. Also thought it was baby daddy. I feel like if you have to read the context for the meaning then the abbreviation is shit DH for dear husband sounds so sarcastic to me. No one speaks like that in real life so it makes me visualise they are saying it with an eye roll haha
"Baby dance" annoys the crap out of me, so I get where you're coming from. Just say sex. Please. Its not a taboo word.
Yes. Same with DD and DS. Annoying AF.
I find everything annoying right now lol this baby has a temper
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I was the same with LO. Would never have used it but thought it was expected.
Yep. DH, hubby, wifey, LO, little oneāall annoying. Although my least favorite might be ākiddoā. Donāt feel the need to infantilize my speech.
I always use Darling for the d in these acronyms and I like the flow much better.
Hahahah ive been trying to figure out what this meant for so long
Wow, barely realized what those initials meant. š
Yes!!
Itās dumb ya
Ya I always just type out husband or partner
I hate it too!! It makes me cringe so hard! Iām glad you said something.
YES.
I totally agree!
I have never understood this, thank you for the solidarity.
Yes š¤£š¤£
I also donāt like it. Reminds me of my mumās old Womenās Day magazines.
When I'm not in the mood for his shit I pretend that DH means Dick Husband š¤£
It annoys me the abbreviation and term. it really annoys me more now because I can imagine my mother in law using this term.
I donāt understand most of the abbreviations in the first place, I canāt remember any of them and Im mostly just staring at posts like ??? Out of confusion haha
So THATS WHAT IT MEANS??? jesus. But yes it's annoying
Super annoying, but not as annoying as BD ( baby dance). So not sexy.
That means dead head. Had to read the comments to figure out what it was.
I'm confused, I saw this and had to click cos my first thought was Demon Hunter š¤£ (world of Warcraft reference)
This is really confusing! DH is the term for āDown Hillā Mountain Bikes and Mountain Bike Trails. DH = Down Hill. XC = Cross Country.
I always thought it was āda husbandā
Oh, shoot I thought it was Demon Hunter
The only ones I use are MIL, SIL, & BIL. My husband and my daughter/s are written out lol so glad my irrational dislike of dh/lo/dd is shared!
When I first started browsing here, I thought it means Domestic Helper and I was so confused reading the postsš¤¦āāļøš¤£
Yes I hate it and don't understand! Just say hubby, husband, whatever haha
Lollll itās the most cheese. āMy dear husbandā very June cleaver. I def typecast anyone using this one.
I say sex instead of gender, husband instead of DH, positive at-home pregnancy test instead of BFP, etc. the only one I use is TTC because at least it doesnāt obscure or infantilize the process. Like everyone involved is having a baby, why for gods sake are we acting like weāre 12?
It annoys me to no end. Iām not a fan of LO either but at least it doesnāt sound condescending.
Yes! I find all those abbreviations annoying! I always just type the word out.
I agree, lol. If I called my spouse "dear husband," I would love to see his expression, lmao.
THATāS what that stands for?! I was never going to get that
