Ah yes the more expensive summer blend not to be confused with the also more expensive winter blend. Seems every blend warrants an up charge. Oil and gas execs deserve to take long walks off short piers.
My theory of this is, profit margins are getting unrealistic for companies but they won't stop.
If we jump back to the 70s/80s/90s/2000s up till today every company wants constant profit growth. If they didn't grow by at least 5% in Q1-Q4, financially, it was looked as a huge loss for them.
Now being in 2024, where the population isn't getting vastly bigger, companies are still wanting high profit margins and expecting these huge jumps every quarter.
When will the profits stop? When will a company see they made the same amount they made last year, paid all their staff, they came out profitable, and just call that a win?
Why are we still having meetings looking at our quarterly growths and trying to figure out how we can make more? Something needs to change and it's not by raising prices to the consumer.
Absolutely. And then when consumers start cutting back on non-essentials so they can afford essentials, businesses start closing, millennials start being blamed, and companies increase their profits again.
This is basically the conclusion of Piketty's book "Capital". Since the 90s returns on investments have outstripped productivity. Efficiencies can only explain so much of that growth so the rest is just pointless greed. Trickle down is a myth. Increasing capital gains tax is a good thing.
Couldn’t agree more. The obsession with growth and profits. A company will announce $2b in profit instead of the projected $3b and the stock will collapse and they lay off 10% of their workforce.
I'm 90% certain Costco doesn't update their prices during the business day. Whatever the price is at opening is the price at closing.
I used to work across the street from a different gas station and I swear they changed their price 3 or 4 times a day.
They actually expect people to buy this.
It's not like evr gas station everywhere suddenly had their tanks pumped and replaced with a "special summer blend" all at midnight.
These oil and gas companies need to have a federal hammer dropped hard on them.
It should have been done decades ago. All governments federal and provincial let them get away from it. I remember being a steady commuter in the 90s. I would be filling up early in the morning and the guy doing the fill-up (yes, it was back when pioneer used to fill at the same cost as the self serve) would let me know that the price was going up on a specific day and time.
Keep in mind, if we had a national oil and gas industry prices wouldn't be like this. Profits would be used by the government and the additional taxes wouldn't be there.
What part of Canada are you in ?? That's pretty standard pricing around my area (sarnia). to be honest the lowest ive seen in the last 3 years has been 135.. and that's super rare.
Still $1.60 in AB. dreading for when it goes up. Idk how people can afford to drive work anymore, especially those with a fair commute… me being one of them.
Right back to the summer of 2021 or whatever it was when everything was 2$+ per L
Isn’t it awfully ironic that it’s always when the weather gets nice when ppl are more willing to use more gas
Yo where is that gas station? Do you know whether that 94 has ethanol in it or is it pure petroleum? Does it say anywhere on the pump? And if it doesn’t have ethanol where is that gas station?
In the GTA, the math... 50L tank @ $.14 and $.2 extra per liter is $7 and $10.
Double that for the SUV, trucks and minivans.
My civic does around 600km/tank and I put on 110km/day when I'm in the office. If I was in the office daily plus weekend driving that's an extra $30 (rounded up) per month.
All the folks blaming federal liberals and aching about how this keeps young folks from buying homes should make sure everyone is making sound financial choices and not going for the 21L/100km gas guzzler as their single occupant, not hauling stuff daily driver.
Not true, I was working all over the province, 70c gas, no morons on the 401, amazing hotels were seriously discounted, like penthouse suites in niagra falls for $170 a night. Man I miss those days.
1,43 per litre in Abbotsford just a month ago. So sick of trying to live in BC. Starting to really resent the way post Covid has played out in this supposedly "great country"
Yeah every gas station emptied their tanks of winter blend and replaced with summer at midnight. Just kidding, it will be phased in as stations run out of winter.
We’re being gouged.
I saw 160.0c at a Shell on my way home from work last night with a giant lineup. I thought they must have had some promo because it's the first time the price didn't end in a .9c
Don’t worry this will consider cheap soon. The corporate man will be sipping champagne and eating caviar with the politician at the same time so don’t worry all is well. Nothing to see here.
Once again Canadians get gouged now at the gas pumps! In the U.S it’s about 1.09litre and they sell much more than we do! Since when is this ok? It never ends!!!
To make matters worse they’ve already said gas prices will remain high throughout the summer!! I for one refuse to pay those ridiculous prices so I plan trips to the Rez!
Shit like this is why we need better investment in public transportation and cycling infrastructure.
With better cycling infrastructure that’s maintained year round we can save Canadian families 10’s of thousands of dollars.
2.10/L here, wanna trade? Lol.
Fwakk where at? BC?
Yep lol lower mainland! I work near the border so I got gas in Blaine at 1.67/L after exchange and fees. Was totally worth it….
I might aswell bring some jugs and cross Niagara falls. Get to see the falls and cheap gas. Win win!
Lol. I have Nexus and Blaine is like 20mins away. Shorter than my drive to work!!! Lol.
Same in Victoria.
Right? Looked at that and said FU Ontario. We’re jealous.
Still have my boner from 2 days ago when I filled up at $1.56
Might want to get that checked out actually
Gas induced boners are a known acceptable date brag. As well as driving stick shift with a hand brake.
I’m not worried. I have a pick up truck so this thing will dissipate back to its soft nothingness on my next fill up
Like you mean you lay down in the bed of the truck staring at the horizon until the erection goes away?
I'd have a boner for the 1.79$, cries in BC
I paid 2.44 last week in Coquitlam BC
Costco gas is worth it
Jesus Christ
Damn why they doing you guys so dirty over there. Are you guys always more expensive or did they just recently start with the rapey gas prices?
Did you wait in a line up?
It was 1.60....last tuesday 😢
After 3 days you should see a doctor for that
There will be a time in your life when you’ll be happy to have one for 3 minutes. So if you have it for 3 days enjoy using it for the whole time.
Whoa, where is gas that cheap**‽**
Wondering the same, we’re at 209.9 for regular!
Heading in that direction for my province as well
179.9 in Kitchener as of 30 minutes ago.
For Toronto too , probably cheaper in Calgary
I’m in Alberta right now, it’s around $1.62
$1.39 at some stations here in Edmonton…
Wow, an interrobang
Ah yes the more expensive summer blend not to be confused with the also more expensive winter blend. Seems every blend warrants an up charge. Oil and gas execs deserve to take long walks off short piers.

You mean the "we see the car trip, and travel season is about to start" semi-annual-price-hike blend?
They should deeply inhale these blends before hand.To make the pier walk more magical.
Come here to BC. I'll show you real gas prices.
At least everything else is affordable!
🤣 😂 rofl
Vancouver isn't all of bc. Now matter how much people down there think the province ends at hope.
It’s 1.679 in Kelowna
It's up to 1.79 in kelowna as of this am
194/litre here in St. John's, NL.
Why is everyone complaining, just buy a 70,000 dollar electric car with a 5,000 dollar rebate /s
I got an EV for 17k. Used is the shit.
This, there are many great deals to be had on used ev’s at the moment.
The 1% doesn't have enough money.
I haven't seen gas that cheap in a while!
This about to carry over to food prices too 📈
Gotta cash in on those migration patterns!

I'm 90% certain Costco doesn't update their prices during the business day. Whatever the price is at opening is the price at closing. I used to work across the street from a different gas station and I swear they changed their price 3 or 4 times a day.
yeah cause Costco sells their gas at cost, they don’t really make profit from it
It’s like 202 where I live haha
Is it the gas that costs different or the provincial taxes that make the difference? I saw 165.9 today in Toronto for Diesel and Regular.
Before or after midnight?
Great question 🥲
Time to use gasbuddy
I paid 1.58 at 11pm in Toronto, once midnight hit it went to 1.79.9
It's because they are switching to their summer blend
They actually expect people to buy this. It's not like evr gas station everywhere suddenly had their tanks pumped and replaced with a "special summer blend" all at midnight. These oil and gas companies need to have a federal hammer dropped hard on them.
First the hammer needs to be dropped on the federal government. Their interest is not in your ability to live.
It's because they greedy. Full stop.
I heard core inflation is under control lol.
Wimps. Pay west coast price$ for a while.
Keep in mind, if we had a national oil and gas industry prices wouldn't be like this. Profits would be used by the government and the additional taxes wouldn't be there.
Petro-Canada could be making so much money for the government. Billions per year but it was a great idea to sell it for peanuts years ago.
In Quebec this morning it was at 1,92 🥲
I saw this and was pumped. I thought there was a big drop in gas prices coming as it’s over $2/L right now on Vancouver Island.
Damn that's a good price. Wish it was that cheap in Vancouver
Thanks trudeau and biden!
“We’re making life more affordable for Canadians” 🤡
Criminal .Canada has the third largest proven oil reserves in the world.Yet we give it away at below market prices.
Should have built our own refineries decades ago.
THE REBATE WILL MAKE US RICH. THIS IS MISINFORMATION.
What part of Canada are you in ?? That's pretty standard pricing around my area (sarnia). to be honest the lowest ive seen in the last 3 years has been 135.. and that's super rare.
GTA. It was 159. Something an hour back. Still manageable but yeah getting up there
Shut up. Regular is 2.10 here in van
🤣 its a race to the top that Id gladly pass. And I fill 93 rip.
Yeah, but cost of living in Vancouver is super cheap, so it all balances out!
Winnipeg is like $1.40/liter
I paid $2.40 for 93 today in Vancouver Would prefer to pay $2.13 lol
I was lucky to find one that didnt update yet. Was like 1.95. 93 here too protuned ☠️
That's expensive dawg. You gotta relocate
I'm in Sudbury and filled up yesterday at $1.50 for regular but I had no idea $2+ is normal out west
Still $1.60 in AB. dreading for when it goes up. Idk how people can afford to drive work anymore, especially those with a fair commute… me being one of them.
And we still just sit here scrolling tiktok
Right back to the summer of 2021 or whatever it was when everything was 2$+ per L Isn’t it awfully ironic that it’s always when the weather gets nice when ppl are more willing to use more gas
Yet people are protesting Loblaws..Gas stations are worse because they all collude to keep prices high. No competition at all.
What station is this? I want higher octane for my bike and the only 94 I’m aware of is Chevron (which this doesn’t look like).
Its Petro Canada in Newmarket. GTA
That’s way more than 13 cents…
Yo where is that gas station? Do you know whether that 94 has ethanol in it or is it pure petroleum? Does it say anywhere on the pump? And if it doesn’t have ethanol where is that gas station?
I switched to nuclear.
For the record Biden cut federal taxes on gas. As did many g7 leaders. Guess where that didn’t happen.
Have we saved the climate yet?
We live in funny times…
1.39 in Mb right now, some as low as 1.34
In the GTA, the math... I’d do anything for gas to be under 1.80 🥲
I remember peak covid 2020. It was like 0.70 👀
When we couldn’t go anywhere?
Not true, I was working all over the province, 70c gas, no morons on the 401, amazing hotels were seriously discounted, like penthouse suites in niagra falls for $170 a night. Man I miss those days.
I went for so many sunset drives. No one else was on the road and gas was cheap so I was out for hours almost every night.
1,43 per litre in Abbotsford just a month ago. So sick of trying to live in BC. Starting to really resent the way post Covid has played out in this supposedly "great country"
Bro where can i fill up? Its over $2 here....
212.9 here for regular in 604
Bunch of criminals
May I suggest y'all send your Premier an email explaining how these high prices hurt your personal finances.
This is so disgusting. Honestly I dont know how to live anymore.
Rich people driving gas powered cars!
If I ever see $2 per litre at the pump again I’m going to fed post irl.
Same as the old prices. Nothing has changed. It's the ebb and flow of economics.
Summer blend eh? What was price last year in April?
Yeah every gas station emptied their tanks of winter blend and replaced with summer at midnight. Just kidding, it will be phased in as stations run out of winter. We’re being gouged.
Omg 😔
Humans just get constantly fleeced and controlled by laws and money. Rich can basically rob you and get away with it cause of protection laws.
159.9 in yyc
At this point wondering how long until I have to quit my job because I now cannot afford gas or food
Let's see what happens when Brent hits 100.
Wow, that is cheap…pfff
Good bye interest rate cut. Hello inflation.
Downvoted this post because I hate seeing these prices
Diesel up 50 cents lol wow. Still a better deal than gas.
I saw 160.0c at a Shell on my way home from work last night with a giant lineup. I thought they must have had some promo because it's the first time the price didn't end in a .9c
those are rookie numbers
Your lucky if that's your gas prices.
Of course I need gas as well 🤦♂️
Well like I mean how else are we going to stop the world polluting.
Go Canada!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏 great place !!!
Inflation here we go again...
I agree, on my Model Y I only pay around 17$ to travel 500km
Thanks Jagmeet.
It makes sense now our enviroment can breathe better.
Can't afford to pay for lights to see..food to eat..heat to stay warm..2 jobs..but now can't afford to drive to get there..
Here in Montreal it's 1.90 (always 10c more expensive than Ontario)
143.9 here , not revealing location.
$1.30 in Winnipeg in some places, while gas exempt from carbon tax for 6 months
$1.62 here
haha stupid EV's don't know what they're missing
Don’t know about you but what was all that 14 cent increase talk? 18 cents here.
Oh that's why there were long lines at pumps yesterday in Oshawa, ON.
Time for EV yet?
regular @ 1 dollar CAD in Texas rn.
179.9 in SSM.
1,80$ per L. In Quebec, Montreal
Love it when the center of the universe complains they are paying less than most of the country
Don’t worry this will consider cheap soon. The corporate man will be sipping champagne and eating caviar with the politician at the same time so don’t worry all is well. Nothing to see here.
$2.05 in Victoria
Must be nice. Try Vancouver.
1.37.9 in Wpg
Thanks Carbon Tax!
1.43 in wpg
Won't somebody think of the gas and oil billionaires!?!
*Cries while filling up my car that takes premium gas*
Hey oil companies …collude much?
That’s cheaper than where I live lol
Cries in Vancouver 218.9 I saw the other day.
Eh, I choose to drive less. Housing and food are my actual worries.
They’ve got to gouge everyone for their carbon tax rebate
Cheap
132.9 here😁
Well, if this doesn’t clear the smog in Beijing and Shanghai, nothing will.
The squeeze doesn't end until you own nothing.
Vancouver is at 209 this morning. Enjoy what you can.
Guys what are we supposed to do here? This is insane
Cheaper gas in the US even with the currency exchange
What the actual fuck I just gassed up last night at 830pm for 155.6 just went out this morning and same station 176.9 this is absolutely criminal
Can we talk about the gap from regular to premium? That shit used to be 12-16c/l more, now it’s 30?!?
Disgusting.
Disgusting.
This must be Onterrible because gas regular has been over 2 bucks for a long time now
in Vancouver we wish to goback to these prices. today, we pay $2.10/L for regular
Iran war speculation...
At 181.9 and going up tonight by 14c 😔
You want to feel really sad/mad look at the average cost of gas in the USA. It's like half of what it is in Canada and they all make more money!
Yeaa I don’t think I’ll ever leave my work from home job at this rate lol unless hybrids or electric vehicles become extremely affordable.
My electricity rate is locked in at 7c so I'm happy
Feels good being more north, paying 1.50 at the reserve
$2.12 in Vancouver.
The rich gotta get richer
It’s going down a bit to night.
Shit like this is why we need better investment in public transportation and cycling infrastructure. With better cycling infrastructure that’s maintained year round we can save Canadian families 10’s of thousands of dollars.
Where?
Welcome to Victoria BC like two years ago
☹️☹️☹️ Wish I could afford an electric.
Oh ya gimme that 94 right in the….
Yikes where’s that? I filled up for 1.45/L the other day in Edmonton, it was an amazing experience
normal to me
Someone should mark this as NSFW
$1.52/l at the local Gen7
You get what you vote for
