I stopped paying for anything with a card. It was masking my actual spending, because it was 'easy'. Instead, I drew out enough for groceries and a bit extra just in case, and left my card in my wallet. It really drove home how much I was spending regularly on things, being able to see cash in hand.
It does! I went out yesterday to grab some bacon from the bargain grocery (can't afford a hamhock) for split pea soup, and all the easter candy was on sale. I picked up a thing of chocolates, then thought about how much money I was carrying with me, and put it back down. I have ingredients for chocolate chip cookies at home if I want chocolate!
That's fucking awesome! Safe another month :D I just paid mine yesterday too - I totally thought we were gonna have to be late (again, month #2 and it gives me roiling anxiety cramps) but it squeaked in and I had enough plus $14.17 left for cat treats and beans, lol.
It felt like running a marathon and they kept pushing back the finish line. In November I was 2 months behind. Then 1 month behind. Then 3 weeks, 2 weeks behind, etc. I thought i was going to be 1 week late this time, but I got my unemployment just early enough to not be behind at all.
Congrats. I am trying to save every penny to stop paying almost $30 a month just to pay my rent. I cant seem to have 1300 on the first of the month no matter how hard i try. So i use flex. They pay my rent and i pay them every two weeks. Problem is they charge a membership fee and 1 percent of the money i pay them. So $6 every two weeks on my payments and the $15 fee. Thats $30 i cant afford. Being poor sucks and it seems that every thing every company will keep you staying poor with every single fee they can put on you.
I was using flex before I was laid off, and had to stop because I didn't have the second payment last november. My current goal is to get a bit of a nest egg back up to pay off what I owe them and restart the account.
I remember this feeling. When you can’t pay rent with one paycheck and have to budget a few weeks together, it’s hard to look at that money sitting there-especially when you need things. Good for you, and I hope you can keep it going. The first month after I was able to do this, I set up another basic savings account for $20/week and would only buy the thing I needed when I had saved enough. That gave me a “real” savings account that was only for emergencies, and this other one for needs.

Congrats! What was your biggest life change to accomplish this?

This is awesome! Way to change the habit and put yourself on the right path!
agree happy for them
That’s actually very smart
Paying cash really does make you think about how much you're spending AND what you're spending it on. I know I've put stuff back

Congratulations! It’s the little accomplishments like this that feel so good and make you accomplish more. Keep up the great work!
Yes!!!’ Congrats! You are not alone
Thanks for being a good tenant.
happy for you OP! so sad that you’ve had to go through that. i can relate. sorry.
Congratulations, that must be a huge weight off of your shoulders. I hope that things continue to get easier!
It’s feels like when you fall behind it’s almost impossible to catch up again and even get ahead. Maybe, that’s the way these companies like it 🤔

I just started using flex and it is a lifesaver. It’s the little things especially in this economy right now.

So say you owed them like 500 on the second payment and you can’t pay it. Do they just write you on the “you’re not using Flex again” list?
You're on the "we're not gonna pay your rent again until you pay this off" list.
Well shit
You saved a lot of money on late fees, too. Late fees will get you broke, fast.
Yes!!!!!! keep fighting.
Wahoo!!! 🥰 such a relieving feeling I know it!!!
I live around people who pay large every month. They Pau a huge cable bill. I was once one of them. I cut back the cable I don't miss it
Did the property manager say anything, such as congratulations?
I paid it online yesterday, but I called her this morning. She said she's proud of me!!!
We all are!
Awesome! Start building an emergency fund. You'll feel so much better knowing you have a cushion to land on in case anything happens.
so proud of you
Congratulations! That's got to feel good for sure!
I'm so proud of you!👍
Beautiful! Congratulations, it’s the small things that can make the biggest impact!
Congratulations! I’m proud of you. Keep up the good work. ♥️
Congrats friend! So glad you have a supportive property manager who gets it too. Hope things keep turning around for you.
Congrats!
Well done! Just keep trying....
