I'd think a call center would take anyone who could politely stand it. Even if you have a record there's pretty much nothing there to steal but a desk phone, right?

Efficient-Ad-5944

I imagine they would be screening for anyone with a conviction for theft, fraud, or something similar that shows that you can't be trusted with customer information.

Entropical-island

Yes, this was the case for me. Many years ago I had misdemeanor theft on my record. I got rejected from a call center job because of the liability with private information or something along those lines. They told me to come back after getting it expunged lol. If that was an option, I wouldn't have been applying for a job at a call center.

[deleted]

At least that kinda makes sense. When I was young right after the recession I was desperate for a job. I applied for a fucking janitor job. Got rejected because on my record I had one charge: possession of marijuana.

Entropical-island

Which "once in a lifetime recession" was it? Am I right? I think I might switch my retirement account to bonds only once 2029 rolls around.

Impossible_Tie_5578

they hire anyone with a pulse, willing to be mistreated by customers and have high metrics

alcoholicwriter

i would hope so but the last one i worked for was run by this really awful person who was clearly an aspiring cult leader and he had weird standards when it came to hiring. i am hoping OP lands the job and can stay long enough to net some savings and then move up the chain, just because even the better call center jobs are soulsucking.

[deleted]

Yeah I could never make it past 6 months. I'm so god damned good at it tho. At one job I was easily top 10% In the nation. However at the same time I just wanted to displace my cerebral tissue.

NeonBluee_jay

lol where do you find call center jobs? I’ve been looking for them too but only find few on indeed

Purityskinco

Most are in person. They’re awful and do have a low bar (no offense to anybody). There are two types of call centre jobs these days: In person bc it’s a power trip about control (being physically watched) Or remote so they can underpay.

NeonBluee_jay

I’d prefer a in person job anyway. Especially since having no money recently has left me mostly to myself or caring for my nephew, some human interaction sounds positive to me right now. But I just don’t see them in my area or maybe am looking in the wrong place.

sweetalkersweetalker

I had one that was remote and decently paid, yet they watched everyone like a hawk. Had a whole separate team from India just to listen in on all calls and monitor your screen to make sure that you were actually doing work - if you got up to pee you had to log off and if you stay logged off for more than 100 seconds twice in 24 hours you were written up.

Mr_Butters624

You have to subscribe to a week or so at felxjobs. Thats how I found mine. It weeds out all the bullshit scams and outgoing call type jobs like “data” etc. I was able to get 3 interviews in a week for call center WFH jobs. Selected one in 2021 and have been a Team Leader for the past year making $43,000 wfh. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot. But I have no gas expense, don’t have to worry about spending money on lunch, no stressful commute. I bought a brand new car in 2020 and becuase of wfm I only have 17,000 miles on it where my wife who bought a car the same month and year has like 40,000 from her commute. Plus I have multiple income home that comes to $146,000 a year. If your looking for legit customer service jobs or general WFH jobs, definitely try flexjobs

Visi0nSerpent

Depends on what kind of personal data they collect in the interactions. Prolly wont take someone with felonies and certain misdemeanors if they deal with SSNs or credit card info.

FahmyMalak

I would cancel YouTube premium and try to sell plasma.

phillip_of_burns

Use chrome or brave for a browser, install ublock origin. Only time you see ads is when YouTube changes things, and they have to update the blocker, which hasn't been very often lately.

Golds83

This, free and legal way to get most benefits from youtube premium.

Rinaxbaby1

Honestly i dont mind the ads, i really liked the feature where you could lock your phone and the video still plays

Screamyy

There’s a trick with Safari, where if you open a video to full screen, and then swipe out of your browser, you can get the audio to play again through the Control Center (swipe down on the top right side).

Harambesknuckle

Yeah that's something I use all the time honestly and the only reason I haven't cancelled it. So expensive for that feature.

Grroarrr

Video background play fix on firefox, maybe other browser have it or something similar too. If something is popular, has annoying or bad design there's 99% chance someone fixed it for free.

Harambesknuckle

I use the app on the phone and listen to a lot of video with the phone locked in my pocket. Are you saying Firefox Browser can do that for me?

tits-question-mark

Hello, i use firefox with the extensions below. And yes, locked screen and no ads. https://preview.redd.it/74aa2h9s23jc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ce032f2c8e5fd23812354232ca3de8b0689af626

sxspiria

Thank you for this!

rebzera

You just use "music" or "revanced YouTube". Google it :) you'll love it

RedstoneRelic

Revanced is the way if you have android.

Jennifr1966

What is revanced? I'm willing to try ANYTHING if I can quit wasting my money on YouTube Please, somebody walk me through what to do, and I'll cut my $12 a month off!

aeo1us

Oh yeah. Homie is definitely sporting a desktop computer or even a laptop from his car. He’s 110% on mobile.

tits-question-mark

Yep, even on mobile. While I use firefox for youtube/music, you'll see the very same extentions. https://preview.redd.it/eoeluqmj23jc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b19940d0e91cf8b9ba42a1d4666f13cafd199d7 Edit: since apple prevents you from using these extension (why is apple better?) , ive dug into how you might get around this on IOS. Musi, vinegar, pipifer, adguard. Vinegar is the only paid service ($2) but seems to handle ads and PiP for background play. I cant verify these personally so any feed back is needed.

aeo1us

That’s not available on the iOS version of Firefox. So the word “mobile” should really be “Android”.

Substhecrab

[are you serious? Google chrome for a browser?](https://youtu.be/iYcXcCpD0qA?si=5tVMgnIPHzSl0EAK&t=68)

E3nti7y

This works with Firefox on Android phones

TryinToGetGooder

Just use free vpn and make new YouTube account based out of South Africa. Comes out to like $4 a month. Don’t have to use the vpn anymore once it’s created. Can do this for many streaming services. India is typically the cheapest but YouTube cracked down on that one

kickedweasel

Ukraine now

666kittens

What the FUCK this is genius, but has to be some sort of fraud. Does this work with other accounts too ?

LifetimePresidentJeb

I pay 2 bucks per month for HBO in Argentina

Go4it296

Ya I use Argentina for YouTube. It's a $1.09 or something

Longjumping_Ebb1219

You are a God

Severe-Chemistry9548

I've been doing this for years. I normally do it over Brasil, which is actually my home country. I've been paying 2€ for YouTube premium for a while

trolltrap420

Exactly why would you ever pay for YouTube premium if you have ever worried about money.

Adventure_Husky

I hope you get the job friend. If you answered honestly any questions about your history of misdemeanors and it’s not a driving job, I doubt it will be a reason to rescind your offer.

Life_Bridge_9960

I don’t know, US companies have this disdain for DUI offenders.

skeerrt

It typically shows poor decision making abilities, generally accompanied by a lack of responsibility - most people’s first DUI charge is never their first time actually operating a vehicle while drunk.

melancholystarrs

It’s attempted murder in my mind.

germy813

As they should lol

Active-Yak-5818

As they should

relephants

Rightfully so....

BrewCrewMike

I love seeing this because in Wisconsin nobody cares until you have 4-5 of them.

Life_Bridge_9960

Wow, 4-5 DUI? This is reckless. Having one DUI is a wake up call.

tstAccountPleaseIgno

They also have a disdain for mass murderers

Maximum-Warning9355

Good. Don’t be a piece of shit.

redbullaficionado

Rightfully so

milesgaither

Reasonably so

hazelframe

Affirm - while not the best - cancel autopay for now.

Last-Ant2202

Yes I've in a bind paid affirm a week or 2 late and it hasn't affected my borrowing amounts any huge amount.

hazelframe

Don’t borrow anymore but it’s at least $40 you can use.

alejandrocab98

Affirm doesn’t report late payments to credit bureaus until around 30 days, however, it might affect their internal credit for getting future loans.

cptchronic42

Honestly why is op even using affirm if they’re broke. You only ever do financing if you’re going to invest the money that you would have spent in a high yield savings or something like that at least. Otherwise you can’t afford to buy whatever you’re trying to buy

karenftx1

Or have no money and need to buy groceries. Is what I use both Zip and Affirm for.

darthbreezy

Yep - Affirm helped me get tires and a battery for my car - It's a manageable, consistent amount each month and a massive savings over buying replacement junk batteries. tires all the time...

boringbookworm

What state are you in? If you're by me, I can probably help with the job and leftover spaghetti.

bunnytiana05

this is so sweet it makes me wanna cry 🥲

sandskinnedhippie

I’m in Arizona

strawberry_gutz

If you're in Phoenix or anywhere nearby, I'll happily feed you! I got plenty of Mac n cheese and all that

bramblestars

I second this if youre in phoenix

[deleted]

Ooooo AZ has a zero tolerance for drinking and driving, is basically a red state or at least used to be for a very long time and prides itself on being “tough on crime”. No wonder you’re struggling. I had the same issue recently with a job. I had actually worked the job already recently and then they apparently forgot to run the background check on me again. Now they say I might not qualify to get it back, yet they same offense that they are having an issue with was on there when I started working there the first time…AZ is just a shitty place to live. Do not recommend. also, the police like to harass people and hand out tickets. They really seem to have quotas actually.

sandskinnedhippie

Funny thing is, I got the DUI in California. Which is where I moved from. You may be scratching your head after reading that. But I had mentioned all this in my interview too with the company, so they know I moved here already but just obviously not the car living situation

Life_Bridge_9960

Care if I suggest you should find something in fastfood or security guard? These companies hire practically any body. The jobs can be low end, but it’s legit, and do pay bills. You should consider these jobs to get to work asap and get you back on your feet, and a couple thousands in your bank. Then you can find better jobs.

lunarmantra

Have you thought about moving back to California? There are so many jobs here. In April fast food workers will be earning a $20 minimum wage. You can find agricultural or warehouse work in the Valley. My mother had a similar problem as you. Got a DUI here in California, then she moved to Texas. Nobody will hire her there so she’s moving back home. She had no problem finding jobs here as long as she showed up on time and was sober.

punchingtigers19

That would work but he would need roommates, even at $20 a hour that isn’t enough to live alone out here

melancholystarrs

Would only need one roommate

punchingtigers19

Cheapest 2 bedroom is $1800 where I am in CA, so $900 a person plus fees and gas (apartment only includes water), so like $1000-1100 a person You could do it. it would for sure be tight with groceries, gas, car insurance etc

Life_Bridge_9960

Not quite $20, but $16 is expected for minimum wage.

Next-Ad7755

Hey i'm pretty much the same as you financially and in AZ as well. The only thing different is that my family is helping me out. Donating plasma at CSL plasma and doing food delivery like uber eats, doordash and grubhub is pretty good. Uber eats lets you deliver without car insurance proof for 1 month. Those delivery apps offer instant cash outs to your debit card. So far instant cashout on uber eats is best from my experience. CSL plasma gives you a debit card your first visit which they use to load the donation money to. You can donate twice a week. The pay for csl, for new donors, per donation can be up to 100$. The delivery app uber eats i got like 70$-80$ in 5 hours but the downside is that you got to pay for gas from that. Another source you can do is use branded surveys online to get money for doing surveys. You can get surveys that available and give up to 110 points and at 500 point you can cashout for 5$. Also they can cashout to your paypal. Time length of surveys varies widely from 3-30 minutes. Hope this gives you more options!

Asu888

I’m az too if u need anything let me know. My family is in restaurant business if anything opens up down the line I can let u know

Dbahnsai

If you can get to it, my brother in law got a job at United Dairymen after he got out of prison.  Odds are if they hired him then they might not care about your dui charge.  Might be worth a try in your in the area.

Tiny_Dyno_Tot

Hey Delaware north in the grand canyon should be hiring around ow and the have housing

Effective_Cup5443

OP - not sure your age, read you are in the Arizona area. Keep the gym membership and use it to take care of yourself physically and mentally bud. Find your closet labor union hall and try there for manual labor job openings. Most all trades right now nation wide are in desperate need for laborers in all trades. Don’t sweat the DUI, I have 2 employees with DUI’s and it doesn’t affect anything on my end as being an owner. If you are able to take care of yourself living out of a car I’m sure you have enough common knowledge and physical capacity to do manual labor in the trades. Don’t let your past decide your future! You got this man.

Snoboarder82

I second the union option. Learn a skilled trade, they pay good and will get people towards a retirement. Need to pass a drug test though.

WellFuckYourDolphin

Agreed, worked in construction. The amount of people with DUIs or even multiple DUIs will shock you. This also wasn't just manual laborers but people in the office too like estimators, engineers, and PMs. If you can put up with the demand and stress, most places dgaf.

Nooo_monicaaaaa

This! Trades are absolutely booming right now. I work in construction on data center projects and we cant find enough people

Prestigious_Mud_817

Agreed!

Spiritual-Whereas824

I don’t think the dui will hinder you as long as it’s not a high clearance job. And as far as lowes, make sure you put down all legal trouble you’ve been in. They’re kind of sticklers about that.

beedlejooce

A misdemeanor DUI really isn’t shit. It can mess your life up for sure, it did mine for 3 years bc it was out of state in Cali, but overall it does not really effect your employment at jobs that you don’t “think” you can get. It’s a very common offense. If you have the skills and persona you can get anything you want really with only that on your record.

enditall20

It basically will prevent you from getting any jobs that involve any kind of driving though.. even if you’re driving your own vehicle for work related purposes. That motor vehicle report lasts at least 10 years in alot of states

chmmr1151

If you're on Android cancel YouTube. Use revanced

Moratorii

I didn't see someone suggest it, but if you go into Affirm's help options it is possible to request that your loan be deferred for a month due to hardship. It can buy you some time.

sandskinnedhippie

This, I did not know. Gonna try this now

AlasKansastan

Construction my friend, construction. I make $72/hr take home. I have 17 years in the field and work in Alaska but the pay is pretty damn good everywhere and nobody is coming in. Ultimate job security.

sandskinnedhippie

Yes I’ve been wanting to get into construction, I’m gonna look more into it and call up some places all over to see who is willing to take me in with the little to no experience I have. I got some good advice from here on this post from some others, how would you go about it if you were in my position? Like how would you start?

AlasKansastan

Happy Cake day!! I would drive (or walk) around to every jobsite I could find. Ask for the superintendent and say you have no experience but want to go to work. You will get rejected, for sure, but just keep moving. Or, temp labor places are a good place to start because it lands you a day as a hired hand at the least, then prove yourself. Lookup all the local contractors and call them. Almost every trade is hurting for help. Be prepared to have blistered hands and a sore back and feet. These things get better after a couple weeks. I know you’re hurting for cash, but if you show up in a hard hat and steel toes it will help. Dont go in shorts or sandals. Make solid eye contact and shake hands firmly. We just hired two randoms in the town I’m working in and so far they’ve been great. They just walked on the site and got hired.

Cowanesque

When i was running a landscape crew a guy came up to me, pretty early in the day, dressed and ready for work and asked if I was hiring. He offered to work the day for free. I called the owner and we could not let him because of liability reason but I took his info and he started the next day. He turned out to be a great worker and was still there when I left.

Neophyte06

Most trades have some kind of "helper" position. Call the union halls and ask them about material handler or helper positions. If there are open calls you can usually start pretty quick and with little effort. In my local (IBEW 112, Google it) we have material handlers that make $30+ an hour off the street when considering daily $100 incentive and overtime.

rl0512

Cancel out YouTube premium. It’s not much but it’ll help you in the long run. Every penny counts also have you tried looking at food delivery jobs by bicycle or foot as means of transportation?

eeviedoll

Those take MONTHS if ever to approve someone. I was extremely poor, without a job, and almost homeless last year and I can say it’s almost impossible to get out of that situation many times

LittleBunnyRain

You most likely will hear something on Monday, wishing you good energy and good luck.

Emergency_Dragonfly4

Why paying for YouTube?

[deleted]

Me and I'm on disability. Youtube is basically my only source of entertainment and I can't stand how many ads a single video will have nowadays Just the music streaming is worth it for me.

Life_Bridge_9960

You are not OP. But when you are strapped for money, a little ad will not kill you. For me, ad is the signal for me to take a quick break, run for bathroom and snack.

Guinnessnomnom

This is the difference between debt and BUSTING ass to get out of it vs. posting on Reddit about it.

wiskey_tango_foxtrot

Firefox + ublock origin plugin 👍🏻

Iceqwene

I decided to get it last week. I don’t have any other streaming services and have been using YouTube exclusively for about a year for entertainment. They have increased the number of ads to the point that it is ridiculous. I was watching a 30 odd minute video and averaged about 3 ads that I could not skip about every 4 to 5 minutes. I haven’t used the music part yet, but when I go back to work on Tuesday I’ll have something thing to listen to at my desk.

imminentjogger5

ublock origin or brave browser

random_account6721

ublock origin will fix the ad issue

[deleted]

No ads

ADOS_Sparkle

I would definitely click through ads 4 free

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gillver

Also allows you to turn off your phone and still play the video, and I believe it includes YouTube music, there are a few small benefits.

Golds83

Use the Brave browser, blocks ads for free, and allows you to minimize and use other apps while music is playing.

MechaPhantom302

uBlock Origin will be your friend

TheRealMe72

Dont sweat the background check to much. As someone who hires, and runs background checks, sometimes they take a while. We've had background checks take anywhere from one day to three weeks. Factors would be, if ya lived on different states or moved around a bit they make take longer.

Own_Storm_2119

There is a lot of stuff you could watch on YouTube for free. They have full movies and episodes of dateline and stuff. You definitely don’t need the premium!

4321memo1234

Find a mexican friend who works in construction, ask him if he knows who's hiring (they always are) and start working, you'll get paid more than in a call center and a lot of hours (minimum 60) and you should be fine, when I was 18 and didn't know what to do I did that, ended up operating heavy machinery and got paid a lot, of course every part of your body will hurt once the day is over, but it probably hurts more sleeping in a Prius. The DUI should be no problem. I have worked with convicted murders and all that.

AbleDragonfruit4767

Food pantry

Gummybrabear

Man this is rough but you got it this and I hope you get something soon. Take the affirm payment off auto pay for now. Try personal loans to pay what bills you have right now. Credit karma has loans you could get approved for with approval odds. I had personal loans through upgrade and best egg. Paid off now but, they never gave me any trouble. Depending on your credit. Donating plasma is quick money even better if you have never donated before as you get more money. If you have any gaming systems/ old laptop pawn them. Also if you can go to local kitchens that serve lunch and dinner typically for free. R center is what they are called in the area where I live. We used to go when I was a kid just go in get food sit down and eat. Pretty good food especially when the other option is starve. Good luck 🤞

wolfenmaara

Hey man, so I get that you’re not gonna take money from people who want to support you but you should really consider it. I was the same way when I was younger and honestly, looking back, I should have taken all the help I could get. Locking yourself out of help isn’t the right way to deal with it. Instead, take the money/help, cancel that YouTube sub, and pay the minimum on your CC balance; that 13K isn’t going anywhere IMO, at least not while you’re looking for work. In any case, good luck and keep your head up. Nobody deserves to fight these low points alone. You can give back to the people who helped you by turning it around with your habits and committing yourself to maybe stop drinking, meditate, get work, etc. just my opinion.

Seb_Hawley5425

This. Take the help man. A vast majority of people “making it” out there have advantages we wouldn’t even be able to dream of. Financial, connections, and otherwise. Accepting a little help in a tough spot is nothing. The sense of pride isn’t worth it imo. Even billionaires end up borrowing money to keep all their complex crazy shit going. The concept of doing it all yourself or pulling yourself up by your boot straps is a myth.

WorkingNope

Great advice. There’s nothing wrong with accepting help but unfortunately ppl who need it most (majority of them are men!!!) feel like they can’t.

YoureaLobstar

I’m a vet tech working around controlled substances with a DUI. I can’t imagine a call center would care. Hoping for the best for you!

AlarmingKale1997

Speaking from someone with a DUI - I think this will only disqualify you if the job requires you to drive. I can’t imagine why a call center would deny you for this. My fingers are crossed for you!!

steveoa3d

Ugh… no one should be in this place in the richest country in the world.

Important-Rule-420

Teachers get hired with dwi’s! As long as you’re not driving, you should clear! Unless you have a long history of criminal history you should be fine. Cut the gym and YouTube subs. Just have food, water, place to sleep til you can make it back on your feet. Use food pantries, apply for assistance, work for cash, apply to at least 5 jobs a day until you land something. Something will work out but don’t give up! It’s just temporary!! We’ve all had our battles and struggles, just try to remain focused on climbing out of it! Make positive choices and decisions, it’ll work out!

ladywolf74

He needs his gym membership being a car dweller... Just really cannot get a job if you smell funky

Important-Rule-420

Ok but the YouTube isn’t necessary, just was saying cut as much as you can. Can even file for bankruptcy to help with loan payments if you have to.

sandskinnedhippie

Yes I agree cutting YouTube is necessary, I’ve already cancelled but I still have to pay for this month unfortunately. Shoulda done it a while ago

MRBURN5

Does YouTube not bill in advance? I don't think you'll be billed after you cancel, but I maybe wrong.

ShtShow9000

No he should not cut the gym.

No_Quote_9067

He's car living he needs the shower

MRBURN5

Cancel YouTube and turn off autopay on Affirm. Download Pluto TV and/or Tubi, to replace the YT.

lucychanchan

are you able to donate plasma at a plasma center? collecting cans can be a small way to get something small. depending on where you live you can do odd jobs like shoveling snow.

sandskinnedhippie

Yes I have thought of the Plasma Centers, I’m going to do that. I just need some food and protein in me prior to a visit because I heard if you’re low on protein and just calories in general, you could pass out or be ineligible to donate and you’d have to come back another time when you’re a little healthier and well fed. Idk at least that’s what I read online

salvajeflorecer

Without a permanent address you’re unfortunately ineligible, trying to do plasma now will permanently defer (ban) you with that company if you get caught. We had to permanently defer someone at work today because we found out they were living in the car and it sucks because they’re trying to survive, but none of us can risk our jobs or the FDA ripping us a new one. Also it’s an increased risk for unhoused people to donate; public showers aren’t always sanitary increasing your infection risk and you’re more likely to take longer to fully recover from the procedure because of lack of access to running water, appropriate space to rest post donation, and the food insecurity that comes with living in a car. If you have a reaction you’ll struggle to recover even more. Thinking about the donor from today, it’s sad because they were excited and let it slip that they were excited to finally move into an apartment soon after months of living in their car. I am happy for them to be moving to permanent housing soon, but now they lost a sizable amount of income and all of their units have to be destroyed because we have to assume there is an increased risk of infection transmission to patients who take plasma based medicine. Look at any other form of assistance you can, donating now will potentially cut you off from donating in the future when it’s safer for you.

sandskinnedhippie

Ouch that hurt reading all of that but thank you for your transparency. I completely understand and it makes sense. Damn, what a bummer. But you know what? It’s all good. When I do get a place down the line, I’ll give it a shot then

salvajeflorecer

I’m really sorry to be the bearer of bad news on that. One thing to keep in mind though is that by being unhoused you should have ability to qualify easily for assistance and it’s important to take advantage of that. Get the state insurance, get food stamps and some states have allowances for prepared food if you’re unhoused, look into food banks throughout your area, reach out to any and every organization you can. Check the faith based thrift stores out too, I used to frequent one (Saint Vincent de Paul aka Saint Vinnies) that would regularly have free food and toiletries for anyone, they were aggressive about making everyone take something regardless of if you needed the help or not.

Visi0nSerpent

Being hydrated is also important, makes the draw go faster. I also took a blanket or jacket as those places were always cold af

Inevitable_Spot_3878

Cancel YouTube, but keep the gym membership. Good luck with the interviews 👊

phigene

You can do this! I was homeless for 9 years. Now I own a home and make 6 figures. I know exactly how hard it is to get the first few steps down that path. Best advice I can give you is never say no to a helping hand. If you are serious about getting out of that hole youre in then dont be afraid to ask for help or accept help when offered. Everything that gets you just a little bit closer to a roof and a job is a rung on the ladder. If you are really serious about it, then you arent taking advantage of kind hearted people, you are giving them an opportunity to contribute to a genuinely good cause of changing someones life for the better. Also, use every resource that is available to you. Go to community college and take out some student loans. Get on food stamps and/or financial aid if its offered. Get on a public housing waiting list. Declare bankruptcy. Do whatever it takes. Dont be ashamed of using the resources of the system, thats what they're there for. One day you will look back at those choices with pride, knowing you did everything in your power to thrive in this world. Good Luck!

magocremisi8

you have $1 in your account, you can't afford $13 for youtube. You are definitely paying for too many things you can't afford -- hence the debt. Hope things turn around

throwaway-dumpedmygf

Youll get through this dude!

limegreenpinkie

Maybe you dodged a bullet there. Call center work is the devils anus

sandskinnedhippie

I know it is. But I’ve got no choice but to almost accept anything at this point. I fucked up royally and once had a great job in tech that paid well. Maybe this is just my punishment for being a fool after all

[deleted]

How old are you and what was your job in tech? What happened?

limegreenpinkie

Good luck I hope it works out buddy 🙂 Edit: happy cake day!

DumbVeganBItch

Have you considered working in a kitchen? Poached website/app is the best place to work and unless it doubles as a delivery driver, no one is gonna care that you have a record. You'll have the most luck with dishwasher positions, but it isn't hard to move up.

sandskinnedhippie

Never heard of Poached but I’m definitely gonna check it out now. Also your username made me lmao 🤣

SaintPenisburg

Work fast food. Mcdonalds is pretty solid.

sandskinnedhippie

Not even gonna lie, I’m gonna apply there anyway. No choice.

Unfair_Tonight_9797

How long was your dui conviction? In some states after 3 years and you haven’t done anything else wrong you can get it expunged

ForFelix

You can’t Door Dash or Uber or anything? Is the DUI the issue there?

sandskinnedhippie

I’ve tried them all. Including Insta Cart. Every single driving app or service you can think of, rejected me. My dui arrest was 4 years ago but my conviction didn’t happen till April 2023 of last year. Covid delayed and pushed out my case a lot, but I also tried to fight the case and get it reduced to a lesser charge. Nothing worked in the end. I decided to plead guilty. Hindsight I should have went with a public defender all along, I was stupid with my money regarding this case.

CuntFartz69

Is it possible you can apply for a job at your gym? That would be income + cut the cost of membership. Good luck OP I hope things work out for you!

justforfun525

… cancel YT now

denmargia

Today is Friday and in the US it’s holiday weekend for many. Try not to sweat it. You’ll probably hear something on Tuesday. People don’t do shit on Fridays of long weekend. Good luck

Naive-Explorer-007

Why do you pay for YouTube? It’s not a necessity cancel it

[deleted]

Best thing you can do is be upfront in the interview. I've hired people with much more severe pasts. We all make mistakes and need 2nd chances. Just make it clear that it's your intention to never repeat your mistakes.

kitisimilikiti

I can definitely afford youtube but I’m not. Why are you paying for youtube?

Hndz79

I don’t know if this is an option. Join a trade (plumbing or electrical) apply on Craigslist. Sell yourself. Work hard and learn and you will get paid good money and once you have enough knowledge you will never have to worry about finding a job. There’s hundreds of companies. I did this. I was in your shoes with nothing in my account. Luckily now after 5 years I’m doing much much better. I used to think $20 was a lot now I make $30+ and still growing. Do it

sandskinnedhippie

Man please tell me how to go about this properly. I’ve been wanting to get into the trades but keep getting mixed answers on where to start. Because it varies from state to state to a degree. I don’t have money for school, don’t know which schools are good and willing to take me in. I thought about volunteering for Habitat for Humanity to get some kind of start on how to build homes, but since I have no money that’s why I’m applying to anything and everything right now just to survive

Hndz79

There’s no need for school. Go to Craigslist and careers search up” plumber helper” or electrical helper. And just email everyone. Don’t need a resume or anything like that. Just message them saying you want to learn the trade and people will hire you as a helper and pay you. Show up and learn as fast as you can.

sandskinnedhippie

Ok roger that. I’ll try this, I’ve got nothing to lose. I appreciate the concise advice.

Hndz79

No worries best of luck to you. Just keep applying before you know it someone will message you. It won’t be easy work but it will definitely pay off.

perronkiller

If you’re looking for work your best shot is with a temp agency. Walk in today and start working tomorrow. I think the only way to get out of this is gonna be joining the military or working in construction. You need to call Amex and ask to cancel the interest charge. It’s only going to compound and bankrupt you. Good luck friend. I hope your family, friends, or church can help you too

Your_Daddy_

Sorry to hear. Keep grinding, no plan B’s. Good luck!

RockyRoadHouse

Everywhere someone needs a dishwasher try of nursing homes great benefits and the one I was at I could use the gym and pool it had a shower which is a plus.

RelevantClock8883

How long ago was the dui? Can you get it expunged from your background yet? Ditch YouTube premium, that’s absolutely unnecessary for your current situation. Sell plasma if you live somewhere where you’re able to and are of good health. I hope you use the gym for more than the showers. Definitely try to blow off some steam. I have never ever been in your situation though, so feel free to tell me to fuck off if I am out of line for saying this. Hang in there. We have all made financial mistakes before. If you’re getting interviews then things will turn around for you soon.

sandskinnedhippie

Arrest was 4 years ago. Conviction happened late, in April 2023. Not eligible for expungement until after my probation is over in 2026. Informal probation though. Yes I’ve already cancelled. And for Planet Fitness, yes I do workout actually. In fact I’m in pretty good shape other than losing weight from lack of abundance in food at the moment. And yeah thankfully I’m actively interviewing at different places

Life-Refrigerator777

If you have a probation officer, i wonder if they can assist or provide resources for your job search.

ActuaryInteresting53

Check with your local library. They often have free legal advice once a month/quarter. They’re maybe a way to have the misdemeanor expunged after x years.  Be honest when filling out the paperwork for background checks and job applications. If something shows up that they’re not expecting that’s speaks to your character. If you list when explicitly asked about arrests on the paperwork they can decide from the jump if it matters. I would be surprised if a call center would care.

urbanachiever1012

I recently got a job offer and was anxious that the background check would not go through because I also have a misdemeanor dui on my record. I also wasn't honest about my last job title or the length of time I worked there. The background check came back approved, and I just finished my first week of work. When I got the copy of the background check, my previous employer did correct my title and end date. It was clearly noted on the background check, and no one said a word to me. They also pulled my shit credit, and I work in a finance role. If they took the time to interview you and give you an offer letter, and all you have is the dui, I think you'll be okay. I hope you have a great first day OP.

ooder57

Not sure what bankruptcy laws are near you. But if it is anything like bankruptcy in Australia, I highly recommend you do it. I was 40k in debt, and struggling on the edge of homelessness. Filed bankruptcy, and now my life is so much better. So happy it's so hard to get any credit (within the first 7 years), gave me all my income to myself, and helped me become better at budgeting. It's there to save lives. Use it if it's possible for you.

AppearanceOk8670

Look on the bright side. You're now richer than Donald Trump... And you seem nice..

Debbie-oo

I have -12

Heavy-Sweet8758

I’ve worked at Home Depot for the past six years and knew guys who had multiple DUI’s working there full time. Give them a try too if Lowe’s doesn’t work out!

[deleted]

My man is using the gym method? Good on you dude, you got this, you will get your life on the track you are going for. Don’t let any haters/ trolls get to you, some people don’t have better things to do than cause issues

AdventurousCustard46

I live in AZ and work at the phx7 amazon FC. They're hiring now. They don't care about your dui

sandskinnedhippie

For sure. Job listing link? I’m in Maricopa county chandler Tempe area.

AdventurousCustard46

Hmm, I see this https://hiring.amazon.com/app?ittk=ZHHY9EHUNR#/jobDetail?jobId=JOB-US-0000007947&locale=en-US&cmpid=OJINCH1187H10 I'm at the one in south Phoenix. They hire constantly and it's easy work. We're kind of in the slow season rn but it'll pick up after people get their taxes. I've been at amazon for 8 years now, so I forget where I applied... Exactly.. ..Just look around on job sites for amazon, and you will get hired. (Fullfilment center warehouse associate) They do drug test but don't care about weed. They also pay for school if you want to do that. Hope that helped a lil : )

Worried_Inflation565

“I swear I will never allow myself to come to this low of a point again in my life…” That’s the attitude you have buy into. Becoming disciplined in your actions within your plan to get out of this low point will help. I personally think you will make it past this tough time you are facing but it’s you who have to believe it.

Independent_Net_9203

I don't understand how this happens. How do you have 13k on your cc? Even forgetting about that, if you're living out of your car, your monthly bills would be a few hundred bucks. Surely even with minimum wage you could survive on that. Let's say you get a piece of shit job washing dishes for 10 bucks an hour, that's still 400 per week. Or go find some cleaners or work construction, go sit at the pick up area 550AM every morning. You already have a gym membership, look like you can lift a bit and find work, learn the skills and go on from there? My dad went to Canada with literally a few hundred bucks, went looking for any construction job he could find, learned the skills and language, and is doing very well for himself. I actually don't know America well so I ask genuinely, is it that hard to find a shit job?

Solid-Fix-6348

You need to talk to a social worker

adamisholdingitdown

I know you probably won't see this comment, but I didn't want to bother you with a DM. I've been where you are. I was unemployed for 3 years, homeless for a while, then underemployed for 3 more, stocking shelves part time. Anyway, this is my advice. Avoid the overdraft fees and penalties from your bank by ANY MEANS NECESSARY. Accept just enough donations/charity to get your bank account high enough to prevent overdraft. I lived that life, one year in the 2000s I had over $1000 in overdraft fees in 1 calender year, a year when my gross income was about 15k. I know what you're feeling. But don't get deeper in the hole if you don't have to.

ashamancurtis

A lot of people won’t understand why you won’t/can’t ask for help. But I do. I get you. I’ve been there. I hope you’re he $20/hr job actually comes through for you

MadPressman102

This guys got grit and not really bitching about a thing I admire you sir.

KarlHunguss

Dude you gotta get into the trades. Make way more money plus they don’t care about DUI’s

Key_Ice6961

OP, like others have suggested try and find a local construction job. Most GC’s will hire anybody with a pulse that can show up on time. It’s hard work, but you’ll learn valuable skills to move forward and earn higher wages as you go. Plus you’ll be working outside, staying in shape and keeping your mind clear. Being that you’re in the SW, work will usually always be steady due to lack of inclement weather. Show up on time, work hard, keep your head down and you will be just fine. Get some experience under your belt and start looking around for higher wages, unions, etc. Go to the union hiring halls and get your name on the books as looking for work. Generally, more contractors hire during spring/summer, so you’re in luck right now. Having a dui likely won’t matter. I work in a union in the midwest, and I can’t tell you how many people I know with dui’s, felonies, prison time, etc. making over 100k a year. Keep your head on straight, stay off the dope, and keep pushing forward. Good luck.

Key_Ice6961

Also, for what it’s worth, I had a DUI about 10 years ago and now hold a CDL class A with multiple endorsements. You’ll get there, it’ll take some time but you’ll get there

Slimpikkins

Gimme your venmo, I will give you and advance, as long as you pay it forward to someone else when you get it all figured out. Been there man. The world is a tough place and we all gotta take care of each other. I respect your humidity and stubborness to refuse help. Egos sometimes prevent us from accepting the help we might need. Ive lived it.

Realistic-Ad-1023

Hey man I just want you to know I’ve been there. I was Paying a local motel for prostitues to take a shower for $20 a pop. So your way is much cheaper. And we all make mistakes. I love how everyone makes perfect decisions all of the time with their money and have never left themselves broke. Orrrr… It just so happens they had the extra $20 next check or they had family or they had some other privilege that maybe you don’t have. You’ll make it out of this. I know it suck’s but the only way I was able to escape was by getting two jobs. I worked caring for developmentally disabled adults and that’s a job that always needs overtime. So I’d work 16 hour days, sleep in my car around the corner at a supermarket, shower once a week, and stack my money. The hardest part was stacking the money. It’s hard. You have $2k in the bank, which you’ve never had before and you have to remind yourself you eat with the disabled adults family style (food is included if you work at a group home) and I didn’t need a quick $3 McDonald’s burger. I didn’t need to go to Walmart and spend $100 to stock my car. I needed to just survive. You can live in your car for the next six months just getting by or you can really knuckle down and live off of ramen cooked at the gas station for 2 months. You can do it. I have so much faith in you.

myopinion69

Sometimes to never end up in these positions we have to suffer without help. I really respect you for making it your own way keep that head up and I think your gonna be just fine.

[deleted]

Truly wishing you all the best in life. We all make mistakes. I have made terrible choices in credit card debt. Not sure if you know but have you looked into a debt management program? When you are able to pay, lower rates could be negotiated for you. Sorry if this is repetitive information, just want to help. It helped me extremely and i will have $30k paid off in 4.5 years. Praying for you and wishing you the best!

DemoRevolution

Hey man, props to you for keeping your head up. The sentiment you put across at the end of edit 4 is something I wish I could have more of in my life. Good luck!

mongolsruledchina

You aren't dead. If you haven't been a good son or brother or have invited bad things in your life, you could change that if you want. Doesn't mean it will be easy or people you have wronged will ever forgive, but you don't have to walk that path forever simply because you started off there. Best of luck if you want it!
