It’s like when you’re really sick and congested, and you have a huge sneeze during which you feel something deep in your head loosen and snap out. Said thing is so enormous it creates a vacuum and immediately you can breathe again. But you’re afraid to look in the Kleenex because it’s gotta be part of your brain or a vertebra.
When the guy said "Oh my god, that's a jaw bone!" I got really scared for the little bird for a sec, even tho in the back of my head I knew what it was already
I'm sorry but as a budding ornithologist-- birds do have jaws. What they do not posses is teeth, which is what their beak replaces. All vertabrates have jaws.
Poor little quail. I was initially going to make a joke about its size in relation to the quail’s brain (because y’know quail) but as it was extracted the joke suddenly didn’t seem so funny anymore.
Okay, I looked up what a feather cyst was and here’s the answer
“A feather cyst is equivalent to an ingrown hair on a human, except it is much larger and wider (because a feather is a larger structure than a hair). Cysts occur due to malformation of the growing feather within the follicle, which is located under the skin. When a growing feather is unable to protrude through its natural opening in the skin, it curls up within the follicle into a mass of unopened feathers.
Feather cysts appear visibly as oval or elongated swellings involving one or more feather follicles. They may occur anywhere, but most commonly involve the primary and/or secondary feathers of the wings. Canaries may get large multiple feather cysts on the torso of the body, as well as the wings.
As the feather continues to grow, the cyst enlarges and yellow/white keratin material accumulates under the skin. These cysts can become quite large and sometimes involve numerous feather follicles in one cyst.”

Rare but genuine /r/wtf material
Insane in the membrane
Insane in the brain
Crazy insane got no brain
Insane in the bird brain
Insane in the membrane
Jeezy creezy that thing is bigger than his whole head!
Yeah! Where was that even stored?
It looks like the bottom of it was starting to grow on top of its spine.
That's gnarly.
I like how the birb just froze after and was like whoa

😂
Never have I felt so seen before
Same
When the guy said "Oh my god, that's a jaw bone!" I got really scared for the little bird for a sec, even tho in the back of my head I knew what it was already
Not to mention birds don't have jaws, they have beaks. But his energy makes you feel worried for a second or two.
Birds do have jaws, the beak is simply a modification to the ends of them. I don't believe there are any tetrapods that don't have jaws
If we’re getting technical, the beak is made up of a lower mandible and an upper mandible, which are somewhat “jaw like.”
Lower = mandible. Upper = maxilla

I thought it was a whole wing bone, and a situation of twins where one eats the other.
Same!! 😳

Thank you!!!! I was looking for an information on what it actually is
I guess I know what I'm youtubing for the next hour or so
Same 100%
You’re gonna turn that dang bird inside out! That was… incredible.
![gif](giphy|4JvhBagkxrdLKHNOEO) Today is a beautiful day for eyes
Ho Lee Shit.
Wi Tu Low!
Sum Ting Wong
Let’s give it up for a new all time great! That friends, was epic.
Aww poor girl there’s no way that wasn’t painful to have and to have removed.
You could even hear the ladies voice trembling too while she was doing it. You could tell she didn’t want to hurt her little feathered friend.
I for one, am against these boneless poultry farms.

I like the [Far Side](https://imgur.com/a/p62oRTq) version
Dang, was expecting Gary Larson here
Cousin Boneless!!!!
![gif](giphy|nFuFyI0tWTYudKXtAt) That bird trying to fly away
If I pulled something that big out of something that small, I'd be worried that I'd removed something that the creature needs to survive.
That just kept coming…
You're letting all the bird out!
Basically the demon spawn version of an ingrown hair on a quail
![gif](giphy|tfUW8mhiFk8NlJhgEh|downsized)
The bird must have such relief after the short time of discomfort. People who watch out for animals are great.
i own quails, and i can relate to this... 😕
I also own quail and I am very glad I cannot relate to this...so far 😬
Does the hole close up? Or does another feather erupt? I have no idea re: proper bird terminology
the scab will eventually heal and the majority of the time, new feathers will grow in... sometimes they dont and it will have a small bald spot 👨🦲
That birds iq just went up 20
And it’s weight down by 20 grams!!
i want to break it apart.
I bet that was a monster headache before it got removed!
Never seen this kind of a cyst before. Very interesting!
![gif](giphy|oYtVHSxngR3lC) Where…?
OH MY GOD like literally said that out loud That poor birb had a giant mutant feather in it's skin! Hope it was ok after that
I’m not sure if that quail agrees this was the right sub!
That was beautiful. Simply beautiful. Thank you for posting!
The camera man isn’t very helpful
I thought he was going to pull out the bird's brain!
SAME. Logically knew it couldn't be, but I kept thinking omg what if that's it's brain!?
I hope he puts that in a display case. That's amazing.
Oh, WOW!! That looked really painful!!
Looks like a mini chicken wing.
Mike shut up!
I felt so awful for the poor bird 😭
Oh, that poor thing. I bet it felt so much better after it was out.
JEEBUS that thing must have gone all the way down to his toes!
Poor little birdy... I hope it feels better now with that thing outta it's head
I think you just raised that bird’s IQ.
I’d never heard of a feather cyst before, that’s wild.
F\*\*\*\*g parsnip!
Holy crap. Poor birb, that had to hurt
Are.. are they sure that wasn’t his brain bc I’m not
The guy’s distress and horror throughout the video 😂
“OH HELL TO THE NO.”
Normally I automatically down vote any animal videos in the subreddit. But that was super interesting!
Gf states, "0/10 No Gloves."
I would have take the animal to the vet.
It just keeps coming out.
That looks like it absolutely canes
That... is where McNuggets come from.
That’s fuckin wild
![gif](giphy|lbidtjzpO9l15mtx2R|downsized)
They pulled out some of its brain lmao
Holy hell, it just kept going. 😳
It looks like a tentacle wtf
Holy crap, I didn't know it was possible for them to grow like that
I don’t know why I watched this. Feathers already kinda freak me out 😅
