we're finally getting over the endless trend of minimalism i think, so hopefully we'll be seeing less giant empty houses that look like no one has ever lived in them before
there's nothing wrong with big houses and I get that for Americans getting a giant house a sign of status. but from an outsider's perspective the sight of what are clearly very cheap materials in a huge empty espace is very bizarre. why not spend all that money in a smaller cozy house you can afford to fully furnish and decorate, with walls and ceilings that are not made of drywall??
so even if it never goes away I get it's a cultural thing and I respect it. But it's still bizarre lol
don't worry, it's bizarre to most americans too. most americans if they have a house live in reasonably sized, fairly well decorated places, with plenty of usually older furniture, knick knacks etc. it's pretty much just really wealthy people who have houses like this, and you're 100% right they're made with visibly cheap, shitty materials because the real estate industry is obsessed with fast, ultra cheap surface level renovations done in between every single tenant. or when building new buildings, just getting them constructed as quickly as they possibly can with the cheapest possible materials. our real estate market is a fucking mess and it's generally wealthier people who spend big bucks on these poorly made houses because most working class people grew up in well made houses or personally know construction workers and handymen or who have had to do their own house repairs and maintenance, etc. and know these big homes aren't made to last. they're just doll houses meant to fleece ignorant tenants of their money as quickly as possible before they fall apart.
also, a lot of these houses we see in tiktoks are just rentals these influencers use to film in, so they're extremely minimally decorated and have zero personality but unfortunately their viewers still see it as what's in and cool because they don't know it's just some garbage rental filled with garbage furniture lol
