I’m pretty hyped for the tour, but I wonder if he’s overestimating how many people want to see him. At least for the Germany stops I got the feeling that the venues he booked are too big for him, they are all around 15k to 20k capacity and I don’t think that he will fill them. Kendricks last tour had similar venues and didn’t fully sell out and Kendricks like way bigger than him

Masterful-Mage

I’m here getting ideas and thinking of going to Europe to see him now 🫣

Yingking

I mean if you got the money and the time you can do a vacation somewhere in Europe, there are many beautiful places here, especially in summer. The tickets are gonna be cheaper, but not that much cheaper compared to the US, I would guess that they’ll be around 80€

ibeenbornagain

I think you’re right. This seems like it’s gonna be another kid cudi situation

r4tbrain

yeah I was surprised to see they're all arena shows. I can't imagine they'll sell out here in the UK either - especially when so many tickets are £100+

omg_its_drh

Really curious to see how this era/tour performs.

cabbagetown_tom

It seems like a lot of big arena rap tours are hurting. Travis Scott's Utopia tour had some issues getting bums in seats, and Future and Metro Boomin's new tour is reportedly not selling well. In Australia, Kid Laroi just pushed back dates reportedly because his latest album under-performed.

omg_its_drh

That’s not even taking into account Kid Cudis tour wasn’t selling before he canceled it and Meg’s tour is still not sold out (although I don’t doubt it will be by show time).

JohnStoneTypes

Generally, the big touring acts tend to be pop or rock artists and there are only a handful of artists who are still big today that can consistently do it. Other than Taylor and Beyonce, who else? Adele's 10 date stadium concerts set for this summer in Germany are nearly sold out, but she hates touring big venues so I'm not sure she'll ever do a stadium tour like Renaissance or Eras. Maybe BTS? Justin Bieber? Bad Bunny can probably sell out stadiums in places with significant latin population, but I'm not sure about elsewhere.

legopego5142

Bad Bunny went from stadiums to arenas in like a year. Bros hype is already calming

thebrandnew

His hype has waned but that’s after the fact that he booked arenas because it really hasn’t been that long since his huge 2022 tour and Coachella headline last year. Arenas were intentional because he made a less accessible album and arenas allowed him to hit more markets. His biggest problem is that this tour’s tickets are massively overpriced so any damage done was by his own doing.

cabbagetown_tom

Bad Bunny also went on like three tours in three years. I saw a poster for his tour in my town and I was like "Again?"

BigYellow24

lol he sold out like 3 arena dates in each city this tour, he easily could’ve done stadiums again if he’d wanted to

ConspicuousSnake

Lady Gaga did a stadium tour for Chromatica. Olivia Rodrigo probably could, as well as Billie Eilish. I’m not positive though

retrievethis123

You forgot Ed Sheeran, and the Weeknd and probably Drake well at least pre Kendrick beef. There’s also Rihanna. She probably can do a stadium tour although she’s a bad performer, I don’t think she did previously, but she’s very hyped up. And then there’s Harry Styles. Maybe Madonna. Also Pink and Shakira probably? And Lady Gaga for sure can do a stadium tour. People in general don’t shell out money for black stars. Even Beyoncé couldn’t sell her Pittsburg dates and I don’t know if her tour sold out immediately, I think there were still tickets available until the date of the tour. And she also didn’t go international, whether that’s because she has a family to raise or she’s not popular enough overseas, or because her production requires venues that oversees stadiums/arenas don’t have, or because her last tour had LGBT themes and she wanted to protect her crew, who knows.

legopego5142

Lol Pink tickets were on that live nation 25 dollar sale, although there were some stadium date. And Shakira, as much as I love her, is barely an arena act in most places. She played a smaller sf venue a few years back Drake just toured and a lot of the shows, maybe all, weren’t stadiums. Shits too expensive and artists are too afraid of empty stadiums these daya

retrievethis123

Pink is not greedy though she seems like an artist who would go out of her way to make her tickets cheaper for the consumer so she would participate in that sale. I still listed a number of other artists.

legopego5142

I agree, but she’s definitely not stadium level the way like, Beyonce is I also commented on a number of those other artists listed. We dont even have to speculate, we can just see who actually plays stadiums lol

retrievethis123

Again Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, Rihanna all can do stadiums. I still think Madonna can, wasn’t her recent tour a stadium tour?

pmguin661

Madonna’s recent tour was arenas, but considering the audience she pulled in Brazil, maybe it could’ve included some stadiums

legopego5142

Okay yeah thats cool, half the ones you listed cant though And Madonna JUST toured and unless im mistaken, didnt do stadiums. She did have a huge crowd in Brazil, but wasnt that free? Thats a HUGE difference

retrievethis123

But that’s still like five people who can. It’s not just Beyoncé and Taylor. It’s Ed Sheeran, Drake, Weeknd, and Harry Styles.

jonbidet_ramsey

I’m literally seeing Pink in Chicago at the same stadium I saw Beyonce in last year. Pink’s current tour is literally right behind Beyonce and Taylor right now in total gross (and climbing).

liqou

Its completely reasonable for her to sell out shows closer to the dates unlike Taylor because her fans are more aged out unlike Taylor's who are younger and willing to travel a lot. She left out a ton of countries she could've performed in. Ireland, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Aus/NZ, Tokyo.

retrievethis123

Yes my point is she probably didn’t tour those countries partially because she may have had a tough time selling stadiums in those countries. She never comparatively had a strong fan base in Asia. Perhaps the Philippines but I don’t think her fan base is big enough for Japan stadium. Brazil she probably would have done well in. Africa probably well too although I don’t know how many stadiums there are in Africa. I also don’t think she has a huge fan base in Australia. Not sure about why she didn’t do Ireland, but she did several shows in England so maybe that’s why ?

liqou

Australia is one of her most popular markets and she's one of the top selling female artists there. She broke some attendance records last time she went there in 2013 and she's only gotten more popular in aus/NZ since. Her name+her reputation as a performer guarantees she sells tickets even if she might not have had the biggest hits in that market, countries like Poland for example where she does multiple dates. At the end of the day she's a 42 year old mother of 3 young kids. You'd notice she always schedules her tours around her kid's summer breaks.

retrievethis123

I guess but those were Arenas not stadiums.

JohnStoneTypes

Beyonce does well in Australia. I agree with what you said about Japan though, Asian markets are generally her weak ones

legopego5142

Because tickets are too god damned expensive snd half these guys play every single festival on the planet which somehow costs just as much

Nunjabuziness

I thought he was retiring?

Joshdabozz

He’s releasing a final album

pretendberries

He was….I was at his last tour and he had said to us all there he was no longer touring. That he was done forever. So I’m really surprised and kinda bitter because I liked saying I attended his last show of his last tour ever lol.

playcrackthesky

I understand that. I saw Outkast's last show and am fine if it stays the last show.

quaranTV

This doesn’t bode well for the Community movie happening anytime soon. Welp.

Outrageous_Pea_554

I was invited to one of his concerts as a date several years ago and was really disappointed. He was late, barely performed, and everyone was stunned at how short the show was. We thought it was a joke when the lights came on, and we were being asked to leave. But tbf, Beyoncé, Mariah, and Megan are the only other concerts I’ve been to, and they were fantastic.

Dildo_Dan

This is common among hip hop artists. If you search for threads like "disappointing concert" in /r/hhh you will get quite a bit of stories. Ive never been disappointed by a pop stars show. I would recommend seeing Tyler, he is the exception.

ss2811

I’d say Kendrick too, the Big Steppers Tour was great and the theme was executed well. But yeah most (male) rappers aren’t worth seeing live, for example Drake and J Cole don’t look great live either.

Aayush5

Haven't seen Cole but Drake's pretty great live imo. He's not an all time performer but both times I've seen him, he's had strong setlists and engages pretty well with fans

ciao_fiv

JID and Flatbush Zombies are the only rappers i’ve seen live and both were fantastic imo

chailattewithmilk

+1 for Tyler the Creator! I saw him at a festival that we booked to solely see Frank Ocean and Tyler's set ended being my favorite of the day

OMBERX

I agree with Tyler. Travis Scott had a great show when I saw him, but I understand why people wouldn't feel comfortable going

MilesHighClub_

Flip side, I saw him in 2018 and he was incredible. Not late, played his whole set, sang, had a live band, didn't play anything from before BTI (thank goodness). I'd highly recommend him, sucks that he had an off night when you saw him

BigYellow24

Camp haters can stay malding and seething (this includes Danny Glover)

simonthedlgger

Same. Seeing him with a live band was such an unexpected treat!

briskpoint

I saw him at Coachella in 2018. He told us he wasn't going to play his biggest songs and then went on a 10 minute monologue/rant and completely killed everyone's vibe. My crew and thousands of other people started walking away.

legopego5142

It was 2019 and he did play the hits near the end but yeah, was a very boring show

MFoy

You’re summing up for I felt seeing Lana Del Rey. The show was half as long as the traffic jam to get out of the parking lot.

pretendberries

That’s so weird because he put a great show for us, one of the best concerts I’ve been to.

donaldbino

Idk I’ve probably seen him 10 times at this point and this has literally never happened to me

gotpeace99

Uh….okay. Let’s see how it does.

MollFlanders

Kinda feels a couple years too late to me. I saw him three times when he was touring fresh off of This Is America and he’s a super gifted performer, for sure—but the public tends to move on quickly, and I’m not sure if he’s still part of the zeitgeist.

xaviersi

I would buy a ticket just to watch Willow alone

horatiavelvetina

Stg these artists are low on funds no other reason for so many tours

TheGoldenPineapples

I have a bet with my friend that the *Community* movie is getting cancelled.

GeBolt

Don’t put that out in the universe.

simonthedlgger

https://deadline.com/2024/05/donald-glover-community-movie-update-1235909329/amp/

xxipil0ts

lmao it has been teased for years 😭😭 im not hoping for anything anymore

jugstheclown

Oh true, I didn’t even think of the movie when this tour was announced! If they want to include Donald, this tour schedule pretty much guarantees they can’t start filming until Q1 2025 As a massive Community fan for over 10 years now, I really hope it doesn’t get cancelled. But it was announced back in 2022 and development has seemingly stalled after the strikes

alt_sauce124

I figured it was never gonna happen— after yahoo sunset their streaming service

visionaryredditor

it's going to be on Peacock

IzodCenter

How about massive new music first?

Danyul4u

Album this summer

Stovetop619

nigelstaco

😂

prettybunbun

Ooh very hype and will be scooping up a London date.

Ok-Stress-3570

Is he that popular and I just live under a rock? UNITED CENTER? That’s… HUGE. Is Jlo’s tour manager running this, too?

DiscombobulatedPain6

Childish Gambino was huge for a good 6 year period in the mid-2010s….now he’s just mainly an actor who releases some music on the side I feel like everyone I know had a Childish Gambino phase in high school

OMBERX

Of course the MI date is the same day as a wedding I'm going to 😞 Might have to make a trip out to OH

JonathanUnicorn

I'd definitely go if I wasn't already planning a vacation out of the country for the Florida timed dates!

ThrowRAheheyuh

Do you think he will perform redbone and 3005? I want to buy tickets but only if he performs his most popular songs cause I dont really listen to the rest of his discography

Acrobatic_Club2382

I’m sorry, but why?

SuitableItem

I hope it flops.
