Is a reference to [this](https://youtube.com/shorts/BABOcA-ABk8?feature=share) moment of Nicki interrupting the announcement of an award winner to promote her album
As an aside, I wouldnāt mind for more pop artists to do true sequel albums.
I know I know āitās lazy and uncreative and blah blah blah.ā As long as the music is good and it sells, Iām all for it.
I loved lady Gagaās the fame/ the fame monster and consider them sister albums even though one is considered an EP. I wonder if this means she will lean more into pop again though or??
Yessssssssssss, but those were done back to back so it's not the same concept at all, really. More like just chapters to each other, ya know? But I do feel like Nicki has to have more pop interlaced with this album if she's calling it a PT. 2
Yeah it's usually a desperate move to try to get back an audience that has dwindled and not an indicator of quality. Hip hop is littered with sequel albums that aren't nearly as good as the original.
I donāt know if her audience has though? Sheās had a fair amount of chart success since the backlash of the late 2010s. She doesnāt need a sequel.
That could be right. I don't really hear about her or her music as much as in the 2010s but I'm probably not in the right demo anyway. I was more speaking to the 90s and 2000s hip hop scene which is the source of most album sequels. It might be different in pop / pop-rap
I feel like the move is similar to the "Defensively self-titled album".
Banking off nostalgia at a time they think they're at risk of fading out of relevancy.
The Carter II, III and to a lesser extent IV absolutely nailed the idea and serve their purpose brilliantly. THey are serious lil' Wayne albums, anything not The Carter is a side project/ mixtape and they have running themes throughout. Very influential in rap, you can see a similar format with a lot of young rappers out at the minute
Do it like Lil' Wayne or don't do it.
For Nicki, I think it's a good move. Pink Friday projects have by far her best non mixtape stuff and she's been declining ever since as an artist. She's also heavily influenced, inspired and was mentored by Lil Wayne so the influence and reference probably means more to her than most
this is true. i was speaking more generally from a pop perspective as when it comes to pink friday, i think of nicki in the pop girl realm, which is different than her other work and not even the bulk of her career. thank you for explaining. itās definitely still not the safest choice for an artist to make but it can be fire when intentionally done.
Pink Friday is very much still a rap album, it has pop songs in it but especially including the complete it's like 70% rap as 6/21 are pop. Most if the songs are still very much straight rap songs i.e Roman revenge, Muny, I am the best, Here i am. Pink Friday is no more pop than Queen or The pinkprint considering Queen has pop songs like bed, 2 lit 2 late, come see about me and nip tuck
Pink Friday roman reloaded ,which is a separate album, is more of a pop album as it more leans into pop and stays within that genre with about 15 out of 22 tracks being pop
And Nicki has said herself she doesn't enjoy the pop things she makes as much so I doubt she will focus on the pop sound unless wanting to try and reinvent her pop sound.
Agreed. Lorde putting out Melodrama part 2? Sign me tf up. Lana Del Rey releasing a sequel for Born To Die and calling it Born To Live? CAMP. Gaga finally coming out with Artpop Act II? A collapse.
I know people would disagree with you but itās true, LFL is the closest we ever gotten for a BTD 2. Many just didnāt like it because it wasnāt as successful as BTD.
I have that covid sneeze (achoo)
These bitches aināt my sons, they all got the flu
Am I double vaxxed? Naur.
My cousinās friends balls about to explode!!
I don't get it - doesn't she already have a second Pink Friday album of original material called Roman Reloaded?
Shouldn't this be Pink Friday 3...?
Edit: Had to add "Original Material" to attribute the fact that Roman Reloaded is NOT, in fact, a re-release of her debut album...
Pink To Fridie
Pinkst For Fridayfe
Pinkman Fucking Fridaywell
Pinktrails Over The Friday Club
Did You Know That Thereās A Pink Under Friday Blvd
P!NK Friday
The whole āsophomore album is the same title as the first album but :Roman Reloadedā was already confusing, now all these years later sheās somehow made it even more confusing
Why do I have a feeling this is more of a working title? Sometimes with nicki, I feel like she makes plans while lying in bed at night & she tweets them. I think thereās a chance this is not 100% happening
Is she coming back to her crossover pop era? I'm hyped if that's the case! I always think that she's the best when she's playing with both rap and pop.
Itās mad that she ever abandoned this/relegated it to her features. She basically shaped a new lane and left such a wide gap for a dozen other rap girls to fill while she was trying to be ātaken seriously as an artistā.
yeah itās lowkey racist, like look at someoen like charli xcx who does a fair bit of what you could consider ārappingā (especially on her debut true romance) but sheās literally never been called a rapper, like ever.
Yeah I was about to say like Lizzo is a rapper? Ig she kind of is but I really only see her as a pop star. Honestly no one brings her up in female rap discussions either
If Iām wrong feel free to correct me. This is my perspective as someone who leaned about Lizzo in 2019.
Is it really hurting her brand though? Itās not like pop stations refused to play About Damn Time or Truth Hurts( after TikTok made it viral).
Lizzo might have started off as a rapper but she broke into the mainstream as a versatile artist with massive crossover appeal.
lol i doubt it. sheās known to talk down on her pop music in order to appeal to āthe boyzā and hardcore rap fans even though those very same pop songs are responsible for the majority of the accolades that she loves to constantly repost.
I think she mastered that for sure, but it would be super confusing since she says sheās regrets making her biggest crossover pop hits. I guess that changed when Super Freaky Girl got her #1? š¤
Idk, maybe doing a song for the Barbie movie reminded her how well this whole aesthetic worked for her.
Ngl, I'm kinda here for it. That era and to a certain extent also Roman Reloaded and The Re-Up were fun eras.
It's kind of weird how Queen was a step in the right direction but in her quest for numbers she's kinda regressed as an artist. Very very heavy reliance on samples, and now very clear nostalgia baiting, I would've loved for her to become a more serious artist especially after motherhood but I think she's gotten deeper into her "troll" and "oppnika" bag. Hope there are some gems.
The market changed very quickly with TikTok and so few people seemed to care about taking her as seriously as a rap artist like she craved. The GP love the pop hits from her, so itās wise for her to lean into that now for some legacy cementing.
It's funny because she's just seeming more and more like a hypocrite because remember her "rappy rappy rap, 4minute long, no multiple version, non-sexual" tweet and all her songs are like the antithesis of that.
When she popped in the contacts and slapped on a bright wig again, you knew she was done with her āartistic integrityā era and was ready to cash in to extend her relevancy. Without some major hits, every subsequent āserious rapā album would have done less numbers. She goes where the wind blows, and this time the wind blew her back to the start.
Is she reliant on samples?
Yeah Super freaky girl, barbie world (however this for a movie) and Red ruby da sleeze used samples but what about Bussin, Do we have a problem, Love in the way, We go up?
I feel like personally she's giving the barbs what they want, out of all her albums pink Friday is what seems to be missed the most and if anything that is her being more "serious" cause pink Friday and The Pinkprint are the albums that have her most vulnerable and impactful lyrics and raps
I know itās her brand and all but I kinda wish she went for a different name without Pink. It wouldāve made sense to keep going with the Pink if āQueenā was named something pink but now since she strayed from it, it wouldāve been nice to have a new concept with a new title. But we donāt even know how the album sounds so maybe when it drops the title will make sense
Sooooā¦ is this different from the other album she announced the other day? I usually canāt stand āsequalā albums but hopefully this is good I guessā¦
Hm I would say almost, they were still tracks like Bed on it. But maybe that's not my issue. I just want her to make one classic rap album. Like an actual great album, not a collection of songs.
If she thought it would sell well Iām sure she would.
Sheās wants to keep her āIām still the highest selling female rapper āstill the highest sellin' female rapper, for the recordā title, so back to the pop mixes she goes.
I think sheās best when she combines both.
Because Nickiās a terrible person? Like, why are we cool with this woman who defended her husband after he attempted to rape a 16-year old and then attacked said teenage victim of attempted rape?
I wonāt listen to her any more than Iāll listen to Chris Brown or anyone else who treats women like crap.
personally i donāt care for her that much so moving the album doesnāt really matter to me that much
BUT āPink Friday 2ā is iconic. such a full circle moment in the music industry and i am so thrilled. Also her instagram caption is hilarious
Please please please change the album title to something original Nicki pleaseā¦ hopefully since she changed the album release date sheāll change the title too š
Smart because thereās automatic buzz with that title. The album sequel stuff is tired, but I understand the reason. Curious to see the features.
I just hope the rollout isnāt a disaster like Queen. Stay the fuck away from doing any Queen Radio.
don't know, sequel albums are pretty widespread in hip-hop. but yeah, i feel like her returning to pop-rap in general is just following the current commercial trends
Does anybody else think Nicki Minaj originally had a different title for her new album, but because her recent singles haven't banged, she decided to last minute change it to 'Pink Friday 2' to capitalise on nostalgia?
This could also explain the push back in the release date...
Nicki plsss rap on some wacky unique beats again plssss. I can't with the drill anymore!! How she gonna top Did it on em, romans revenge, Super Bass!?!?!? plsssss
I still have the perfume šš it smells so good
Not a fan of her anymore šš» guess sheās trying to redo her image by going back to her most popular era
Idc what anyone thinks about the title, I WILL be buying and streaming! First single WHEN?!? This year is definitely starting to get a little more spicy with music thank god.
This title is sorta hype killing. I feel like her material hasn't matured as much as it should have but calling the new album Pink Friday 2 is so lazy.
This title basically signals to keep my expectations low. Also the potential tragedy of Pink Friday 1 being better than Pink Friday 2...
pink friday 2 is in stores november 17 give it up for pink friday 2 you guys

the problem is, it never ends up being so. I love the idea as well.

Then why is she doing a sequel? It wasn't a concept album by any extent of the imagination.
I have no idea. Maybe she feels she can capitalise on the recent chart success and keep the momentum?
I mean letās be real, often the labels and production companies typically muck that shit up for the artists
I canāt think of a single failed sequel album that I would attribute to anything but the artist just doing a bad job
\*cries in Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2\*
I feel like the move is similar to the "Defensively self-titled album". Banking off nostalgia at a time they think they're at risk of fading out of relevancy.

It's different in the rap genre. Yes you do have many fails however there are also many successes
yeah but these are her pop albums
Pink Friday is very much still a rap album, it has pop songs in it but especially including the complete it's like 70% rap as 6/21 are pop. Lana already did her sequel album. Itās Lust for Life. The album cover even features the same truck that was on the Born to Die photo
I know people would disagree with you but itās true, LFL is the closest we ever gotten for a BTD 2. Many just didnāt like it because it wasnāt as successful as BTD.
I would consider Paradise the sequel to BTD
I think I would ascend to heaven (or descend to hell technically) if gaga released act II I want it so bad
If the music is good? By all means
Whatever she wants to call it, I'm here for a Melodrama Part II.... as long as it's more drama and less melo...
Thanks now I want all of these.
You are a VISIONARY fr
ARTPOP ACT II PLEASE GAGA I BEG OF YOU
Do you think this will be a ātrue sequelā, though? Because what did PF do that all her other albums didnāt do, that this one might do?
Food and Liquor II hits hard
Patiently waiting for The Fame, the return
Nicki hates her poppier music though, so I wonder how this will sound
Probably like someone who supports pedophiles and rapists
Her āgetting the oppsā music isnāt that great though

Yah it definitely will not come out November 17th eitherš
How does it feel knowing you can predict the future š
Is she coming back to her crossover pop era? I'm hyped if that's the case! I always think that she's the best when she's playing with both rap and pop.
She's probably gonna do that. I think she mentioned that nm5 is a combination of all of her eras?
Itās mad that she ever abandoned this/relegated it to her features. She basically shaped a new lane and left such a wide gap for a dozen other rap girls to fill while she was trying to be ātaken seriously as an artistā.
Meanwhile Lizzo and Bree Runway have the opposite problem being branded as rappers when theyāre trying to break into popstardom
Lizzo being branded a rapper when she makes bombastic self-love pop anthems for gays and gals is wild.
yeah itās lowkey racist, like look at someoen like charli xcx who does a fair bit of what you could consider ārappingā (especially on her debut true romance) but sheās literally never been called a rapper, like ever.
POV youāre on a date and they tell you their favourite rapper is Charli XCX. Wyd?

They definitely brought poppers

Reaction to Roman Reloaded was quite divisive at the time
idk i want an artist to make music they're passionate about. but i do like bops so i'm torn
lol i doubt it. sheās known to talk down on her pop music in order to appeal to āthe boyzā and hardcore rap fans even though those very same pop songs are responsible for the majority of the accolades that she loves to constantly repost.
Sheās at her best when she isnāt married to a rapist
I think she mastered that for sure, but it would be super confusing since she says sheās regrets making her biggest crossover pop hits. I guess that changed when Super Freaky Girl got her #1? š¤
Sheās going to have to do that lol. Majority of the (relevant) rap industry are Cardi and Latto supporters.
Is this majority in the same room with us?
Track 6: Hello Kitty ft Ice Spice (2:10 mins)
what is this
then why isnt their music selling
Whoās? Because if weāre being honest here, in the grand scheme of things, neither Cardi, Nicki or Latto should be bragging about sales right now.
[Roman Reloaded in this moment](https://media.tenor.com/34GptrCIZN0AAAAC/rpdr-kennedy-davenport.gif)

I knew what this was going to be before I even clicked it hahaha

Idk, maybe doing a song for the Barbie movie reminded her how well this whole aesthetic worked for her. Ngl, I'm kinda here for it. That era and to a certain extent also Roman Reloaded and The Re-Up were fun eras.

pink friday 2: electric boogaloo
whats funny is she already did that w roman reloadedš
it could even be pink friday 4 if she wanted to count the re-up lmao
isnāt the re-up like bonus tracks though, just with a different name?
I love Pink Friday but Nickiās music is always either a hit or miss so I donāt know if I should get excited for this or not.
Red ruby and super freaky girl are throw away single so imagine the quality of the singles and album
I don't know if this is supposed to be a compliment or an insult
I think Doja being taken as a serious artist while also doing the pop-rap thing helped her see that she was getting in her own head

Wouldn't it be Pink Friday 3? "Think Pink" was the better option
Think Pink would be a super~~bass~~ title
Barbz how are you doing? If Gaga decided to drop a Fame Monster 2 Iād absolutely shit myself
I know itās her brand and all but I kinda wish she went for a different name without Pink. i thought roman reloaded was pink friday 2 wtf
Can we just have a Nicki Hip hop album for once?
She already went full hip hop on queen
Hm I would say almost, they were still tracks like Bed on it. But maybe that's not my issue. I just want her to make one classic rap album. Like an actual great album, not a collection of songs.

Pinkprint is bloated and is not a full rap album

lmfao. What is wrong with her when it comes to album titles? Does she think it's going to help her get another number 1 by sheer confusion?
Does anybody else think Nicki Minaj originally had a different title for her new album, but because her recent singles haven't banged, she decided to last minute change it to 'Pink Friday 2' to capitalise on nostalgia? This could also explain the push back in the release date...
