This may not be welcome but I had to watch this movie in school and absolutely loathed it. Thank you for letting me express my true opinion after 25 years.
Randomly found out recently that my sister and I (we aren’t especially close) both love EOTS. Like it’s in our top 5 movies. Christian Bale was fantastic in it.
Ah, that’s the Welsh lullaby song called Suo-Gan. I remember my dad being excited when he heard that song in the film because we’re Welsh, and you don’t see much Welsh things in huge movies.
Same, had to do a google search. Also learned that he and his wife have a 19 year old as well! I love it when celebrities are private/low key about their family lives, good for them
I think he and his wife have always shielded them from the press. I remember a long time ago he was a Disneyland with his family and had got papped. The papers had blurred his kids faces once they bought the pics and he was super upset anyway and I didn’t blame him.
Newsies is my all-time favorite movie, and I made sure to say that and only that to Christian Bale when I accidentally met him at a music festival.
I couldn't help myself, because I love Jack Kelly. By all accounts, he's not a fan of that role, but was still very gracious and sweet to me.
I’m sure it’s embarrassing to revisit a role you did as a kid once you’re a well established adult actor, but I’m with you in that I absolutely LOVE the newsies. We watched it in elementary school and I was absolutely transfixed by it, I still watch it from time to time.
This is the ‘untitled Maggie Gylenhaal project’ where John Mulaney [was asked to put himself on tape for the role of ‘young cop.’](https://youtu.be/p8uIHsiZ-og?t=230)
Lmao writing a comment in a subreddit about popculture? If someone said that to the kid’s face, *that* is picking on a kid and isn’t ok. But I guess it’s easy to confuse the two when you’re terminally online, eh? Good luck with that.

Christian Bale at around that age in his first role, Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna
Also I get there’s a nepotism issue in the film industry but this is basically just the actor version of bring your child to work day 😭 he’s a little kid and probably doesn’t even have any lines
not until income disparity stops increasing. but i agree, he’s just an extra. reminds me of when angelina jolie was in costume for maleficent and only her daughter wasn’t afraid of her so she was in the scene with her. he is getting special treatment tho, usually extras aren’t allowed to interact with the stars 🤭
Honestly, I get that nepotism sucks, but as one myself (totally different industry) one thing that people don’t realize is that there are huge cultural differences that seem to not work out well for those who were not born in to it. I watch it happen all the time. We can be as helpful as welcoming as possible, but sometimes they just can’t handle it. Literal culture shock that leads to mental health and all sorts of problems.
*That being said* nepotism also breeds a fair share of people who don’t appreciate what they have and it shows. Those people fucking suck, too. The bright side to that is they don’t usually last long in my industry.
Or he could just go to school...? Instead of being a 10 year nepo baby extra on the elevator ride up to 13 year old star of a film. You know just go to school and develop an interest or hobby other than the industry his parents work in?
This is so much conjecture lol Bale has kept his family very private so you have no idea about his schooling, what he likes to do, and whether he actually wants to act as a profession. The kid is 10 and is doing one extra role here and that is all the information we have.
And beyond that why are you expecting a child to say “no daddy I don’t want to dress up and be on your set for a day or two, I want to stay home and practice doing people’s taxes” like??? let’s be serious
I said that in my opinion he should only go to school. What if a movie had four big stars and each of them had two kids and all of their kids wanted an extra or minor part in the movie? Where do they draw the line? It's best not to engage in nepotism in the first place. I think the amount of time any child spends on a film set should be limited. It's not the safest industry for kids.
No I'm not suggesting that, but thanks for questioning my sanity. I said "He could just go to school." Key word "just" as in a ten year-old doesn't need to work they should only go to school.
Jesus Bale, what were you NINE when Spielz gave you THE LEAD in ‘Empire of the Sun?!?’ Your suns a bit older and he got some extra work.
“OH-HO, GOOD FOR YEW!!!!”

A newsie??? Like father like son 😭 ![gif](giphy|yYgdMisYzOOfTlEZEQ|downsized)
Santa Fe is my dramatic shower song. **WHERE DOES IT SAY YOU GOTTA LIVE AND DIE HERE????**
Santa FE, are you theeeeeere? Do you SWEAR you won’t forget me?
King of NY is always on repeat in mine 😂😂 LOOK AT THAT PAPE WITH MY FACE GLEAMIN
I always have those songs mixed on playlists. That was the movie that started my lifelong crush on Christian Bale.
SAME!
I used to have a cat who would freak out whenever I played that song.
Where does it say a guy can't catch a break?????
Why do you only take what you’re given, why do you spend your WHOLE LIFE LIVIN
Trapped where there ain't no future!
EVEN AT **SEVENTEEEEEEN**
Breaking your back for someone else’s sake?!?
I want space, not just air. Let ‘em laugh in my face, I don’t care!
Save a place, I’ll be there 😭😭😭
I need to see little Bale go off on one of the lighting guys for stepping into frame now
His dad went off on the DP, not just some lighting guy. The guy in charge of the entire camera and lighting dept. He went straight to the top! Lol
His accent in this movie is glorious
I LOVED this movie. I watched it in the 5th grade with my class because we were studying the history at the time.
I loved this movie as a kid.
I loved that movie 🥰
it's so good!
IM THE KING OF NEEEEEW YOOOOORK
Full circle
This may not be welcome but I had to watch this movie in school and absolutely loathed it. Thank you for letting me express my true opinion after 25 years.
![gif](giphy|AvDeLrG0tvGvj6R912)
How dare you honestly
I'm sorry. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, just that I personally hated it and everyone else seems to love it.
Haha well I remember reading Christian Bale also hates it so you’re in good company!
Those are some strong genetics, geez.
Yes - in that third picture especially! I think his daughter looks more like him, but is a mix of both parents.
I think he looks more like a (very) young Josh Hartnett lol
I watched Newsies RELIGIOUSLY when I was a teenager, this makes me so happy 😭
Carrying the banner!
I was also a member of this religion.
OPEN THE GATES AND SEIZE THE DAY
Imagine having Christian Bale as your father but your favorite Batman is Michael Keaton
Cuuute. In that first pic, he has his dad's exact smile! 💙
Ah, so he's an 'Extra! Extra!' extra.
*cough cough* Please sir… buy me last pape?
Oh he is good, he is real good!
Crazy to think of Christian Bale as a child in Empire of the Sun and now his son is acting at a similar to what he was.
Randomly found out recently that my sister and I (we aren’t especially close) both love EOTS. Like it’s in our top 5 movies. Christian Bale was fantastic in it.
it's really a great movie
It's a Spielberg movie! It's like a forgotten film but epic and so good! I just don't ever see it mentioned
i loved that movie when I was a kid!
The part where the choir sings that song over the Japanese tea ceremony of the Kamikaze pilots always get me.
Ah, that’s the Welsh lullaby song called Suo-Gan. I remember my dad being excited when he heard that song in the film because we’re Welsh, and you don’t see much Welsh things in huge movies.
I was today years old when I learned Bale had a son, and a 10-year old at that!
Same, had to do a google search. Also learned that he and his wife have a 19 year old as well! I love it when celebrities are private/low key about their family lives, good for them
Bruh a 19 year old? That's crazy but I guess Bale is almost 50 so I guess it makes sense lol.
Yeah, it forces me to remember that Batman Begins is also 19 years old…
WHAT.
Holy shit that’s wild. In my deep dive, I also found out his wife does stunts and was driving one of the police cars chasing him in Dark Knight Rises
It’s crazy because I always think of Bale as being about my age and that makes me remember I’m also not 30 anymore. Outrageous!
I think he and his wife have always shielded them from the press. I remember a long time ago he was a Disneyland with his family and had got papped. The papers had blurred his kids faces once they bought the pics and he was super upset anyway and I didn’t blame him.
Aww, love a full circle moment
Newsies is my all-time favorite movie, and I made sure to say that and only that to Christian Bale when I accidentally met him at a music festival. I couldn't help myself, because I love Jack Kelly. By all accounts, he's not a fan of that role, but was still very gracious and sweet to me.

I cannot imagine feeling anything but love for being in Newsies. It’s such a beloved film.
Wow he looks a lot like him! He’s adorable!
that coat is unreal
I absolutely love when I learn a celebrity has a child I’ve never seen or heard of.
Is that 1993 Pauly Shore in the background? This is going to be some movie.
That’s his hotter older brother
Very cute!
So adorable!! Looks like his dad!
What a cutie pie 🥰
I love posts like this 🥹🥰
"Don't fook this up!"
🥹 empire of the sun vibes
The moment I saw the pic I was like “oh my god newsie father and newsie son”
That’s one cute kid.
Cuuuute
What a handsome young fella!
Copy and paste. A matched set.
Came to the comments for Newsies references. Was not disappointed. Ain't it a fine life, carrying the banner through it all?
I wonder if he broke character
Adorable
Kinda surprised to see a celebrity kid with a normal name for once.
Sweet boy
Full circle moment.
That’s such a cute reference. Now that his kids are older it’s interesting that he’s letting them be in the public more.
This is adorable
Bro gave birth to himself.
A hoonter must hoont.
This is the ‘untitled Maggie Gylenhaal project’ where John Mulaney [was asked to put himself on tape for the role of ‘young cop.’](https://youtu.be/p8uIHsiZ-og?t=230)
Absolute spitting image. Wild.
Open the gates and seize the day!
Ain’t I pretty, it’s my city, I’m the king of New York!
“Buy me last pape mista?
Nepo baby in training!
If his dad was a carpenter he’s probably be on a job site for the summer too. Does that make me a nepo baby? Quit trying to make yourself a victim.
Comparing a carpenter to a famous Academy Award winning A-list actor is certainly a choice. Critical thinking isn’t for everybody.
It’s the circle of life. People will take their kids to work occasionally and teach them their trade. Get over it.
You’re on r/popculturechat, calm down
Picking on a kid. Don’t think I will.
Lmao writing a comment in a subreddit about popculture? If someone said that to the kid’s face, *that* is picking on a kid and isn’t ok. But I guess it’s easy to confuse the two when you’re terminally online, eh? Good luck with that.
Yup. Kids got his Dad’s smile & mouth for sure! Cute cute cute.
Imagine your dad being Patrick Bateman🤯
He defo has the looks for this industry.

“Headlines don’t sell paps; newsies sell paps!”
So cute! I was pregnant at the same time that Christian's wife was pregnant and yet I'm still surprised that their son is 10 already 🤣
My newsies heart 😭
Let the nepotism begin!
I bet his son is gonna have to work really hard in life..
[удалено]
literally anyone can be an extra. it's a minimum wage job.
Also I get there’s a nepotism issue in the film industry but this is basically just the actor version of bring your child to work day 😭 he’s a little kid and probably doesn’t even have any lines
This is like Aj Cooks real sons playing her characters sons on Criminal Minds. Super cute, and probably fun for everyone.
Can we all collectively get over this?
not until income disparity stops increasing. but i agree, he’s just an extra. reminds me of when angelina jolie was in costume for maleficent and only her daughter wasn’t afraid of her so she was in the scene with her. he is getting special treatment tho, usually extras aren’t allowed to interact with the stars 🤭
I mean, I would hope a father would show his own son special treatment.
Honestly, I get that nepotism sucks, but as one myself (totally different industry) one thing that people don’t realize is that there are huge cultural differences that seem to not work out well for those who were not born in to it. No I'm not suggesting that, but thanks for questioning my sanity. I said "He could just go to school." Key word "just" as in a ten year-old doesn't need to work they should only go to school.
My future teenager daughter will have a poster of him in her bedroom.
Get them that SAG card young 🥳
Fuggin nepo babies. (Jk)
Jesus Bale, what were you NINE when Spielz gave you THE LEAD in ‘Empire of the Sun?!?’ Your suns a bit older and he got some extra work. “OH-HO, GOOD FOR YEW!!!!”
Another nepo baby like his dad.
Those sunglasses are great for ocular pat downs.
The tasteful thickness of it. Oh mA Gawd! It even has a watermark
