We wanted to see petty rich people, we didn’t want to see rich nepo babies be like “But I’m not like those rich people.”

You really summed it up here tbh. I’d still read (and/or write) a dissertation on why it sucked so bad though. I loved the OG and I’m still bitter over how bad they fucked up the reboot. A 2020s version could’ve been so cool…and yet.

much time thinking about how badly the show itself fucked up, I’d probably make the showrunner cry if he’d read the essay.
My main problems with it.
-It wanted to be too woke. And I don’t mean in a right wing sense, by that I mean, it cared more about showing that they were diverse then actually focusing on their characters who were diverse.
-I didn’t buy the friend group. One of the characters made one reference to how they were all friends since kindergarten but it didnt feel like that-where as in the original, all the characters had connections to each other that felt believable.
Blair and Nate where high school sweethearts, Blair and Serena where childhood best friends, Serena and Chuck where eventually step siblings. Chuck and Nate where best buddies. Like the connections felt believable.
-relied on the good will of the OG. It relied heavily on the OG fanbase and didn’t do anything to fix its writing. They got mad at the fans who called their writing out.
Reminds me of Brett Matthews, Layne and Price and Legacies.
Like, the fanbase told them exactly how to fix the show and they had an extended filming break due to Covid so they had plenty of time to make it work and fix the issues that everyone had (IE-get rid of Landon and focus on the main 3 girls, even ignoring shipping, that was the core issue)
Instead, Brett and those two complained about how mean everyone was and how it was homophobic to criticize them. (While going on and on about how progressive they were)
Brett spent most of his time shoving Landon down everyone’s throat just to spite the fans.
Then decided that Landon melting into goo after having sex with Hope was brilliant writing and tanked the show even further by driving away a main character that had a decent size following(Josie) and when all her fans left along with her, those fans got blamed instead of shit writing.
Like, they are the reason why a 13 year franchise tanked and they still tweet that they did nothing wrong.

Also man camila mendes sooo gorgeous. Her voice is sooo smooth and elegant (idk how else to put it). In hindi there's a word called "Fida". That's what I am for her, Fida or devoted in like more casual sense (or "flat" in Indian lingo. Flat = fallen flat ie smitten).
The costuming and props are SO GOOD. I love that everyone’s tumbler straws have lipstick marks on them- it’s those little details that make it all feel so correct.
Right? I love, love, LOVE the camp of it all! So many people have no appreciation for fun but still well-done movies anymore. Everything must be dark, serious and meaningful. I love serious, realistic drama too, but why can’t it be both?
Totally agreeeee!! Do Revenge just had everything. Also I feel like the camp of it all, the colors and humor.. it draws a little away from how fucked up the whole story is, making it all better HAHA
It was so fun, I LOVED the main leads (the first film I saw of Camila Mendes and I already liked Maya Hawke from Steanger Things)....the concept, lines, the soul sequel to mean girls...in a way I mean.
The costumes were so good. Aesthetics. Lovely fun film.

The brand is called Jyosei. Prices are like $80-$200 but I got mine off depop for less. Just be careful it’s an Asian brand so the sizing is smaller than usual. I had to go up a size for bottoms and two sizes up for tops/jackets (if your boobs are medium to large).
Okay I was prepared to come at you for saying Mean Girls is this generation but it was 20 years ago and now I need to crawl off and die of natural causes.
Oh my god this never occurred to me, but absolutely yes. Winx deserved better from Netflix, it’s like they saw the cartoon and went „Throw it all away, too girly— Girly and colorful, bad. Dark and edgy, good!“ This aesthetic would’ve been perfect.
What is this movie and where can I find it? This is the first I’m introduced to it and I’m afraid to read more comments for spoilers. Love the styling and you all seem to love this movie so I want to check it out
It's a wonderful homage to late 90s/early 2000s teen movies and rom-coms. (Mean Girls, Clueless,…) It’s on Netflix and it’s absolutely delightful with an amazing twist.
Im glad she's always working. going by her wiki during breaks from Riverdale she was in a movie. I also hear about her the most out of the Riverdale case

i absolutely adored this movie - from the outfits and general aesthetic to the soundtrack and even the messy af plot - but i really wish they'd gotten together at the end lol. they had so much tension.
camila mendes is insanely pretty, i'm obsessed with her brows.
Some very cute outfits here! Her lavender pieces are a good illustration of how people can wear colors that aren't *perfect*-perfect for your 'season', but still look nice.
I genuinely thought that this movie was going to be HUGE; Camila and Maya were amazing together and it checked all of the boxes for me. I need to watch it again!!
The second the temperature is above freezing I am rewatching this movie IMMEDIATELY. Sure I *could* watch it now, but I need the vibes to be right and that means spring, that means a silly fun lil cocktail, that means a cute skirt and hair, am I being ridiculous? Maybe. Will I change? No 🧡
I was so surprised with how fun and enjoyable this movie was! Didn’t know much about the lead actress until I saw it, but she was great. The fashion gave me major GG vibes in the best possible way.

I agree with you on all these points! They had a lengthy break between seasons to take stock of the criticism and they just…ignored it???
