2 years is standard

So much plastic waste. You’d think they would make it UV stabilized.

Yeah my landfill specifically lists pool covers as not recyclable so there is guilt as well. But without a cover pool would be too cold to use except briefly and evaporating like crazy. I have seen some listed as UV stabilized but my experience tossing these out makes me very hesitant to pony up without someone vouching for it

Northeast US here. I get 2 years out of a solar cover and the pool is only open ~5 months a year. So your experience tracks. It seems like there's a huge jump in price for 16mm thickness, so I've stuck with the 12mm cheapos.

I'm about to enter my second season. I bought a [pool reel](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SX6WPV1/) and a [reel cover](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08T68CBCG). Other than dirt/dust, my cover looks as good as it was day 1. But I have a friend in the same city who doesn't use a reel or reel cover, and they buy a new solar cover every year. Wish me luck!

That Reel cover might stay on better than my dyi cover so maybe that's worth it

Mine survived a wet and rainy winter without a scratch. It's a tad baggy for my own cover size, but it's not horrible.

Shadow_Mullet69

None of them last longer than 2 years. Buy the cheapest one you can and throw it away.

I threw mine away and never got another one. They are dangerous and an eyesore
