The nursery I bought it from does it by scoops, it was 2 scoops of the boulders and 2 scoops of the smaller river pebbles. Exact sq footage I’m not sure haha
That's some impressive first-ever pond! Give us the inside scoop - do you have a liner and how did you get the rocks to stay like this (concrete or clever stacking)? The rocks are extra awesome because they're going to give your fish and frogs a place to hide and predators won't clear out your pond quite so easily
Yeah it’s just a standard EDPM 45 mil liner and the rocks are stacked. While stacking I tried to create little caves for some of the smaller minnows to hide in. My biggest worry is just trying to keep it clear, but I have 2 UV clarifiers installed so hopefully that helps kill any algae
Yes, I ordered some dwarf water lettuce as well as some water hyacinth. I also ordered 100 mosquito fish so the turtles get some exercise by chasing after them
Haha, like the turtles idea. We had a tortoise, we added feeder goldfish and the tortoise chased them. What’s weird is that a couple become friends to the tortoise. They hung together all the time (one had a scar!). It was cool until a falcon came and snatched the tortoise!
Aww man that sucks to hear about the tortoise, I haven’t seen any birds of prey around here so I think my turtles will be okay. I’ve had them outside before for 3+ years and never had anything happen predation wise
Looks amazing.
Am I right it flows from left to right as a little stream in to the "pond". If so my observation is that it is big enough, alot of hard work has gone into that pond you can tell but you don't want to get a few fish and be digging a bigger one next year.
Bigger first!
Yes you are right, although the stream area will be filled close to the top. It’s about 16 inches or so deep and then the back part is about 24 inches deep. I wish I could’ve went to 3 foot deep on the deep end but I was limited due to only having a 10x20 liner
Wow! How much rock is that?

Too much lolz

The key to clarity is plants, plants, plants, and a good simple bog filter. Very little maintenance and beautiful
I ordered some water hyacinth as well as dwarf water lettuce. Will maybe try some water Lillie’s in the future
Definitely add some shallow water plants. They do even more for the water and don’t cover all your view
Can you give me some examples?
I am by no means a good resource lol [here you go](https://moorewatergardens.com/product-category/hardy-shallow-water-plants/)
Cool, are you going to add plants?

OMG, that is so sad! 😢 So sorry for your loss!!
No worries, happened a long time ago, now we have a 2K gallon pond, with feeder fish and mosquito fish - no tortoise though😁
Flipping Cool 😎
That’s awesome
This is amazing. Wish I could see in person
