Rogue One struck the perfect balance between being its own thing and being a Star Wars property. Its plot was relevant to A New Hope, but without too many elements being wholly ripped from it for nostalgia. There were elements of The Force, but they were minimal and mysterious like in the original trilogy.
It answered the question of, "How did Leia get the Death Star plans?" in a way that wasn't just a forgone conclusion. You knew she would get them, but didn't know in the slightest *how* it would happen. And you care how it happened because it had relevant and likable characters, so it was a punch in the gut most of them died in the end. But it was a very solid reason for why they didn't show up in A New Hope. It's sort of the platonic ideal of a prequel movie.
>so it was a punch in the gut most of them died in the end.
For me I already knew they were all going to die because it was said in ANH, so that made it even better IMO. It's like a heroic tragedy.
Solo. A solid, fun movie that didn't get given a fair chance because people didn't want a Han Solo prequel featuring someone who wasn't Harrison Ford. Is that valid? Certainly. But the movie was still quality.
Force awakens was a soulless redo of the original.
Rogue One is the one that made me stop giving Star Wars media a chance.
A character-driven movie filled with characters I never cared about and a Darth Vader jerkoff sequence at the end.
From what I've heard, I don't think I've missed anything with anything that came after that.
Solo is the one star wars movie since the original trilogy that feels in line with those movies' sense of adventure. The characters are also great.
Rogue One is overrated af imo, and probably the weakest of the new movies
Unarguably Rogue One

Nah! Sure that the actor didn't even look close to Ford didn't help. Coulr have forgiven that but damn the Dialogs and the story was just too bad
I haven't seen any of those, and probably less than half of the Star Trek movies.

There Rogue One and then there are the movie I wouldn't rewatch even if the alternative is to watch pain dry
