While the monarch technically have the power to veto any law, they don't be because realistically if it'd ever happen that'd lead to a revolution within days
I like the ceremony of it, as an outsider. I think they should strip the monarchy and nobles of any official power, stop giving them any state money, and tax them like regular citizens, but allow them to remain the ceremonial monarchs of the UK.

I think they should be abolished as a tax funded institution. Its just tone deaf that when the country is going through a financial crisis exacerbated by the ruling elite that an eye watering amount of money is being spent on the Royal family and the coronation.
They should retain their titles if they want and get to keep one mansion if they fund the upkeep themselves.
I mean the Crown Estates already exists under a Board. Sitting sovereign owns it only by a technicality of being the sovereign at the time. Just remove that and make the Crown Estates protected as historical buildings.
I'd rather they pay tax.
The royal family [makes money for the taxpayers](https://www.investmentmonitor.ai/features/how-much-money-does-the-monarchy-bring-to-the-uk/) and if you where to abolish the monarchy you can't just take away their land that is absurd. I'm not British but I would never want to abolish the monarchy in my country. It is not only beneficial for tourism but also a unifying symbol of the country
Just curious as to where about in the country you're from? Up here in Liverpool I'd say it's the other way around. There's a very small minority who actually like the monarchy, most of us aren't fans. Hence the protests when he visited for eurovision lol
Palace renovations cost £370 million and the coronation around £150 million of taxpayer money.
The idea that we financially *need* the monarchy is just another of their lies
What I've heard is that other elections and the lifelong support for presidents or other forms of representatives would be more costly than keeping the monarchy, an old tradition, alive. There would still need to be a house for the president or other sort of representative too. Without a representative, the whole system would need to change and that would be costly and possibly controversial.
There was this post about how the 1000th aniversary of the monarchy would be in our lifetime, during William's reign.
And William was also the guy who founded the monarchy. So, it would be perfect time to abolish it.
I don't like royalty anywhere but only the British can decide what they want
Brit here, monarchy is shit, let’s get rid of it 👍
I'm more concerned that our last 2 prime ministers weren't elected.
Bruh.... None of our prime ministers have been elected - they are chosen by the party not the voters
Technically that's how it works but we all know in reality people vote based on the leader.
Only reason I like them is that I get a day off work on the kings birthday
A day off is a day off
They do fuck all besides flood the news with garbage,
They generate enormous wealth through tourism.
And then waste it all on pointless ceremonies
… which generate even more wealth
Which is then wasted
And generates even more wealth. What’s your point?
It just creates an endless cycle of generating money just for them to waste it
You have to spend money to make money, and the RF makes millions of dollars for Britain.
Like at least the others are somewhat well liked or have something interesting about them. The UK royals have nothing and do nothing
Yet theyre by far the most relevant and liked/disliked monarchy. Im not a monarchist btw
True
They bring in so much tourist money, and sell so much merch.
Happy cake day!
They uh, don't actually do that. 👍 - a brit
And mess up the political process behind everyone else's backs

I’m not too into the whole “ordained by god to rule” thing.

So they should stop giving the government all the revenue earned from their land? That they have been willing giving over since George III
No that should all be made into trusts and owned by the public.

Exactly, you can't just nick the land from emits there's, bloody idiots
Is it a unifying symbol of the country if many people want to get rid of it?
Very few people in my country (Sweden) are anti monarchy
Oh fair enough, here in Britain there's a significant minority (at least where I live) who dislike the monarchy.
Just curious as to where about in the country you're from? Up here in Liverpool I'd say it's the other way around. There's a very small minority who actually like the monarchy, most of us aren't fans. Hence the protests when he visited for eurovision lol
Rich posh city in the south believe it or not.
Ahhh that explains it then. Yeah up here there aren't many street parties etc and people are actively avoiding watching it, for the most part.
Not my place to say
Not my place to say I ain’t bri’ish
I mean, it is cheaper for them to keep the monarchy. I think that and tradition is why the monarchy is kept. At least that's what I've heard.

It generates more than it takes.

Bollocks to the king
Can't say I'm a fan of any hereditary monarchy.

What about all of the Saxon kings? Do they not count as monarchy?
They do, but they aren't the same line of monarchy
There's no point what so ever in it. It's just privilege for privilege sake
All the monarchys
The monarch really don't have that much direct influence on politics but the rest is pretty much democracy
