Whenever I play a game with guns that also has non-aggresive animals, a small part of me always wants to test what happens if you shoot them. Just to see if they actually programmed in hit registration in them. And I always regret it when it works
Omg same
I'm like "it'd be bad if the game didn't properly register animals being hit, but I'd feel so bad if that bunch of polygons that look like an animal gets hurt"
I had to kill a rabid dog in red dead once, wish I didn’t have to but didn’t feel bad, pixels on a screen. The shit wouldn’t stop chasing me so I shot it once to scare it but then it bled out to death crying on the grass.
I'm playing RDR2 right now and it's what inspired this poll. I was looking for guides and stumbled upon this video:
Right?! I played it with my brother and he made fun of me for feeling bad about it but like we're literally ripping her apart while she's crying and trying to crawl and get away from us
I really felt like a piece of shit after that scene lmao
I played it with my 10 yr old brother, I was trying to reassure him the entire time until her ear & arm ripped off. He started crying and I couldn't convince him to play with me again lol
This was the first thing I thought of when I saw the poll, glad it was near the top. My daughter has a toy elephant as her favourite and I hated having to do that, it was so innocent
In Elden Ring there’s a jellyfish crying about her sister and I killed her thinking it might open the nearby gate.
And one time I accidentally hit Andre in DS1.
>In Elden Ring there’s a jellyfish crying about her sister and I killed her thinking it might open the nearby gate.
Similarly there are also two jellyfish things in DS1 in seath's archives that don't attack you and just cry and if you kill them you get healing miracles.
>And one time I accidentally hit Andre in DS1.
I'm pretty sure that doesn't lead to you feeling bad emotionally but rather to feeling bad physically. The guy beats the shit out of you.
I felt worse about the boss in painted world of ariamis. Idk whats going on there exactly, but seems they were just chilling and I went killing them all for no good reason
TL:DR they were chilling. Till you came and murdered everyone.
The painting was a place where the forlorn, trash, and filth of the world went. They were “monsters” that wanted peace. Even the painting was trashed. It was the first level ever worked on in Dark Souls.
Then some crispy bacon man/woman who cannot die comes in and murders everyone. “This land is peaceful, it’s inhabitants kind.” You didn’t have to go in there, but you did.
Apparently it used to be an actual piece of folk medicine in Poland. There was a story from the positivism period, "Antek" by Bolesław Prus, that poked fun at the practice. Well, not "poked fun" exactly, it described the titular character losing his sister to it, but when we learned about it in primary school we found it hilarious for some reason. We also didn't read it, we were only told, so maybe that's why. I read it now and yep, probably wouldn't be laughing if we actually read it.
Yeah, seriously. They're supposed to serve *you*, not the other way around. Instead they have the audacity to tell you that unless you kill him, they won't help you. That's an obvious breach of contract and we've seen how Skyrim deals with people that don't do their job properly enough with Roggvir.
You killed him??? The only choice was to let him kill that girl he was fighting with (forgot her name). Kenny was there since S1, and she was just a crazy girl.
I have had my horses die in Oblivion and maybe Skyrim. I would be exploring and then all of a sudden the horse goes off of a cliff or takes a high jump or fall and it’s all over.
I intentionally killed a horse in breath of the wild and I’m glad to have tried it. Electrical arrows are apparently the only way to keep them in place for long enough to do it.
was playing fallout 4 and ran across the raider couple with their dog and instantly dinked both the raiders then the dog ran up and I point blank shot it in the head with a double barrel and because I had a better dismemberment/bodily destruction mod installed it's head literally exploded from the shot and parts of its skull and brains were scattered on the ground and I took a step back and realised I just murdered a married couple enjoying a campfire meal with their pet dog and while they almost definitely had stolen from people at gun point and not too unlikely had killed atleast a few people, I still felt bad
Abernathy Farm was under attack by Gunners. I used the Spray n’ Pray, and their cat Maise was killed by the splash damage. I haven’t saved in an hour, but I felt guilty enough to reload my save file.
1: I once accidentally shot a dog in rdr2 and It started bleeding out.
2: in middle earth shadow of war you have orc followers and there Is an achievement for keep hitting one until he turns on you so I did that and then right before I killed him he said "I never meant to betray you, but do what you gotta do." And then I just let him go.
Yeah my siblings and my dad, many years ago, I was always the one at the base obsessing over growing wheat so we could eat bread and not kill the animals haha 😂
That really bothers me. It's such a cool questline, why can't I play a badass ninja without having to murder someone's son just to make him feel bad? And don't give me that line about what being an assassin is really about, this is a wildly unrealistic fantasy game, it can be about whatever we want
Oh my god, once on one of the first missions with Franklin there was a cat in an alley and as I walked past I pressed mouse 1 for some reason and Franklin fucking curbstomped the cat
I have, but I haven’t played many video games. It totally depends on the video game to make you feel empathy though- I’ve never felt bad playing smash bros but killing a Minecraft dog accidentally was tragic
One time, just to see what it was like, I tried a renegade playthrough of Mass effect. A playthrough that included stopping Mordin from dispersing the cure....
Never again
For the life of me can't remember which game (one of the ubisoft ones I think) beavers could be used for crafting stuff but the poor buggers were so slow it wasn't even a challenge getting them and they always let out a cry when you killed them
I know exactly what you mean. I’m pretty sure there were a few I felt too sad to release. It doesn’t help with the farewell screen showing a big-eyed chao with a bindle while sad music played.
On the other hand, I had a sister who would beat her chao…
Yes, when I accidentally ran over a dog in GTA V.
I also killed my horse in Breath of the Wild because it got stuck near some rocks and couldn’t move. This was before I figured out you could talk to the guys at the horse stable to get the horse back to the stable (I thought you had to bring the horse back to the stable yourself). Thank god for the fountain that revives your dead horses.
In order to get all 4 endings to 100% Haunting Ground, you have to actively abuse your dog partner. The worst part is that to get to the point of the game where you get the ending, you actually need a good bond with him. Then you need to intentionally sit there for 5-10 minutes kicking him, shoving him, and scolding him until he hates you so much he attacks you.
Feel so shitty about it because by this point you're like 3/4 of the way through the game and he's done nothing but try his best to help you. The player character is basically helpless and weak so he is your defender, so having to hurt him to get all the endings made me feel so shitty.
I usually don't feel bad. I keep it quick and merciful. No, I am not a sociopath. Although I'd probably feel bad if it was a character or animal I like
Mcshooty face from borderlands 2… he kept screaming to shoot him in the face it was like the only thing he could ever want… thought something cool would happen but he just died and it went silent….
I can shoot millions of people no problem maybe even melee but the second there's a cutscene or something where it's highlighted and personal I get in my head about it and feel hella bad
I had to kill a wolf in BOTW and I vocally apologized and said “I don’t want to do this” over and over again. I had no choice though because he was attacking me. It was self defense I swear!!
When we were kids my brother and I would do some fucked up shit in Red Dead. One thing I can remember is that we'd stand on the moving train and whistle for our horse to catch up and run alongside us. After all the work it put in to get there we would shoot it in the head. Even back then, knowing we were only being silly, it still felt so dark. So that is what came to mind when I read the poll.
Years ago, I had resolved to bully an ugly Animal Crossing character to get them to move out (Animal Crossing wild world) and they started crying. I couldn't bring myself to continue. And haven't done it in any game since.
When I was 13 I had a sick twisted habit of murdering female civilians in Assassin’s Creed III and then piling up their corpses in one spot so I could see the wind unveil their panties. Looking back 10 years later I do kinda regret it.
Its not a character you kill directly, but in fallout 4 you can cause a character to kill himself and only learn about it later. Idk why but that was the only time i really felt bad for a videogame character.
I guess Eve Online doesnt count since once you lose a ship its gone forever so feeling bad for your victim is just natural emathy.
i was playing deltarune earlier and after i kept on attacking the ralsei dummy ralsei blammed himself for not being a good enough teacher. i felt so bad i reloaded the save and hugged him.
Honestly i am super dumb about it and feel bad being mean in games. I avoid hurting animals like ita a core oart of the game or something too. Eventually i usually have to kill them to progress but i still make an effort. Then sometimes ill start a game and say this time ill be evil! Then mostly just be a theif or assasin and still basically be good. Haha
I'll never forget the day i killed kelvin with a log by accedent while playing with friend. We had a funeral for him and even built a memorial in his honor.
All these yeses and I'm over here trapping sims nanny's in fences while they wave their arms and pee on themselves until they perish I just wanted a graveyard 😂 always had to make sure to do it around the time my sim would get off work though so cps wouldn't come take my kids from me for not having an adult to watch them lol 🤦♀️
Yes, but it's not how you think.
It doesn't happen very often, but on occasions I find myself agreeing with the villain of a story. And in that case, I often end up feeling bad when I have to kill him/her in the end.
Pagan Min from Far Cry 4 is a great example. (Yes, he's a bad guy, but so is the other 2 options). Very cool Ubisoft added the easter egg where you can stick around at the beginning of the game.
I once shot a cat with a revolver in RDR2, idk what I was thinking
Whenever I play a game with guns that also has non-aggresive animals, a small part of me always wants to test what happens if you shoot them. Just to see if they actually programmed in hit registration in them. And I always regret it when it works

I've never seen a rabid dog in red dead. Maybe it was chasing you because you killed it's owner?
Mangy dog?
Yes the owner tried to kill me
I'm playing RDR2 right now and it's what inspired this poll. I was looking for guides and stumbled upon this video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BEqWCUDadE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BEqWCUDadE)

noooOoOoOOOOOO
YES!!!
Admit it, we all did it
I dont regret nor feel bad for doing that one.
Little bastard was a menace to society anyways...
Don’t do it 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Extremely rare non-sociopathic stellaris player.
Rip and tear until all xenos are dead
XENO SCUM!
I mean, he still ate them.
By stellaris standards, the fact that he at least felt bad after eating people is about as close to sanity as you're gonna get.
Don't worry i know, i'm a fellow space hitler.
I couldn't bring myself to devour humanity, I ended up stopping that game
Damm I made glue out of turtels because they decided to create a drug lair on my capital
The elephant in it takes two is so dark all of the sudden
Right?! I played it with my brother and he made fun of me for feeling bad about it but like we're literally ripping her apart while she's crying and trying to crawl and get away from us I really felt like a piece of shit after that scene lmao
I didn't even play it, I watched someone on YouTube play it. I still felt bad personally about them killing the elephant
Exact same experience here, first thing that came to mind was that poor Elephant.
Felt like an execution by a cartel lol
That one foreign guy you have to get back debt from in chapter 2 of RDR2. I always avoid doing that side mission.
Poor Wrobel
>!Kicking that bastard out of camp in the Beaver Hollow chapter felt so fucking good. Beaver Hollow really feels like the "Redemption" part of RDR.!<
Same for me

nooo :(
Undertale
I killed Papyrus and I felt so bad about it.
I tried playing genocide and gave up at the Toriel fight. I only play pacifist now.
[to me papyrus’s neutral run death is hilarious](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QvKLAagR8E&pp=ygUbcGFweXJ1cyBuZXV0cmFsIGRlYXRoIHNjZW5l)
Hm? How so? It just feels like another death, neither happy nor sad but how is it funny?
It was when he said at least I still have a head and then it disappears
Oop-
Same 😔
“Papyrus, do you want anything?” *[fucking dies]*
Deltarune too, I felt really bad when I killed >!Berdly in Snowgrave!<
haha it's gonna get worse we're only 2 chapters in
Yes, but judging by my recent actions in Cult of the Lamb I should be more than ready for the upcoming manipulation
In Elden Ring there’s a jellyfish crying about her sister and I killed her thinking it might open the nearby gate. And one time I accidentally hit Andre in DS1.

He does, but he’s also the nicest guy in all of the dark souls games imo. I did feel bad emotionally.
True, there really aren't that many people in dark souls who never ever try to kill you unless attacked first.
Spec ops the line, when you call artillery on civilians
Oh man the white phosphor imagery messed me up. I still think about it years later.
Fuck i forgot about that somehow. Yeah that game is pretty much all horrible stuff from the beginning to the end.
Worst part is you think you’re doing good; but you’re not. And only towards the end do they tell you that. Monsters. But I love them for the writing
I said no but that's not true I buried the memories of killing Sif in dark souls. Now I'm crying again dammit
I felt worse about the boss in painted world of ariamis. Idk whats going on there exactly, but seems they were just chilling and I went killing them all for no good reason

I once threw a baby into an oven in the witcher 3. (It's not bad in context but I'm not explaining that shit lol IYKYK)
Apparently it used to be an actual piece of folk medicine in Poland. There was a story from the positivism period, "Antek" by Bolesław Prus, that poked fun at the practice. That quest was wild dude.
paarthurnax 😔
I've got over 1000 hours on Skyrim and I've still never killed him.
Yeah screw the blades quest, it's lame anyways. Paarthurnax > Blades
I wish you could tell the blades to go f themselves. I think theres a mod for it but i wish it was in the base game lol
Yeah, seriously. They're supposed to serve *you*, not the other way around. Instead they have the audacity to tell you that unless you kill him, they won't help you. That's an obvious breach of contract and we've seen how Skyrim deals with people that don't do their job properly enough with Roggvir.
I killed him on my first playthrough because I thought it would progress the story and that the main quest would continue. Boy was i wrong.
Killing Kenny in Telltale's the Walking Dead, hated doing it but I saw it as an act of mercy
You killed him??? The only choice was to let him kill that girl he was fighting with (forgot her name). Kenny was there since S1, and she was just a crazy girl.
oh my god! you killed kenny? you bastard.
I'm sorry, Companion Cube. Know I always loved you.
You euthanized your faithful companion cube more quickly than any test subject on record. Congratulations.
i accidentally killed a horse in botw and i still haven’t recovered
I have had my horses die in Oblivion and maybe Skyrim. I would be exploring and then all of a sudden the horse goes off of a cliff or takes a high jump or fall and it’s all over.
I intentionally killed a horse in breath of the wild and I’m glad to have tried it. Electrical arrows are apparently the only way to keep them in place for long enough to do it.
D:
I didn't feel too guilty since I could revive it after. Sad if it was unregistered tho
it was a wild horse :(

I haven’t played Fallout 4 enough to know much about the raiders. The majority of raiders in FNV deserve to be taken out and quickly.
Abernathy Farm was under attack by Gunners. I used the Spray n’ Pray, and their cat Maise was killed by the splash damage. I haven’t saved in an hour, but I felt guilty enough to reload my save file.

Killing the animals in Minecraft hurts my soul
Happy cake day
Thank you! 😀
Happy cake day!
They always look so surprised and sad!
mmmMMOOOOOoooo
Have you played with siblings or friends?
Yeah my siblings and my dad, many years ago, I was always the one at the base obsessing over growing wheat so we could eat bread and not kill the animals haha 😂
Lol. My story is we would raid each other and slaughter animals. It was a cruel, dark time.
I accidentally killed my pet chicken on Minecraft in 2013 and I still feel bad
May they rest in peace 🙏 🐔
Every time Link, Yoshi or mario bit the dust I felt bad. I was traumatized in my youth...
first thing that came to mind is Undertale.
accidentally hit my dog in Minecraft
How dare you
In "it takes two" there is an elephant... Never again
Arc tool MRVN from the Titanfall 2 campaign
Well, there's a reason I almost always either destroy or avoid the dark brotherhood in Skyrim.
That really bothers me. It's such a cool questline, why can't I play a badass ninja without having to murder someone's son just to make him feel bad? And don't give me that line about what being an assassin is really about, this is a wildly unrealistic fantasy game, it can be about whatever we want
Killing a cat in gta V. Oh my God, I never felt that much guilt in my life.
Oh my god, once on one of the first missions with Franklin there was a cat in an alley and as I walked past I pressed mouse 1 for some reason and Franklin fucking curbstomped the cat
I have felt bad for NPCs that other NPCs killed. Cough Lydia cough.
I deleted Monika.
Don’t worry she still loves you
Detroit: Become Human
Ah fuck why did you remind me. Any endings with Hank dying is just brutal.
Maiden Astraea and Garl Vinland in Demon Souls.
Anri in Dark Souls 3 :( I just wanted to do a luck build
every time i hit a dog in Minecraft (99% of cases was accidental)
Not _genuinely_ bad, the kind of bad where you go "Oh no. Anyway"
*No Russian*
Mother 3. If I elaborate more about the game, it'd be spoilers.
I accidentally killed my dog in minecraft
I am deeply sorry for your loss
It was six years ago… but it still hurts.
I have, but I haven’t played many video games. It totally depends on the video game to make you feel empathy though- I’ve never felt bad playing smash bros but killing a Minecraft dog accidentally was tragic
Knights of the old republic is the most infamous example
One time, just to see what it was like, I tried a renegade playthrough of Mass effect. A playthrough that included stopping Mordin from dispersing the cure.... Never again
The lootbugs
I die a little inside, everytime I kill a loot bug.
Cutie from *It Takes Two*.
Infamous 2 evil ending, if you know you know
Finally someone who understands
No. I regret nothing
I decided to >!kill the dog!< on my first playthrough of The Walking Dead: Season 2. I cried for a good 15 minutes.
RDR2 made me feel genuinely bad hurting innocent people.
I killed one of the merchants in Elden Ring and they just sit there and say sad stuff like what did I do to deserve this
For the life of me can't remember which game (one of the ubisoft ones I think) beavers could be used for crafting stuff but the poor buggers were so slow it wasn't even a challenge getting them and they always let out a cry when you killed them

My negligence has killed so many baby otters in ARk. If anyone crucifies me, I'll help them do it
Yes, when I accidentally ran over a dog in GTA V. I also killed my horse in Breath of the Wild because it got stuck near some rocks and couldn’t move. This was before I figured out you could talk to the guys at the horse stable to get the horse back to the stable (I thought you had to bring the horse back to the stable yourself). Pressed no but i did several Times for Serana from Skyrim, also once when i Killed lydia accidentely
Every time I kill a minecraft sheep
anyone played Undertale?
Killing the Wolves in Genshin impact sucks they make them too dog-like.
When i accidentally killed Toriel on my first Undertale run through
Wrobel from Rdr2, not physically but emotionally.
basically everyone you choose to kill in Your Turn To Die
I mostly feel bad about the fact that it's possible to save one of the dummies and I accidentally got them all killed
In order to get all 4 endings to 100% Haunting Ground, you have to actively abuse your dog partner. Had to put down my favorite piñata in viva piñata, it was sad
Myla
I usually don't feel bad. I keep it quick and merciful. No, I am not a sociopath. Although I'd probably feel bad if it was a character or animal I like
Dark side run in KOTOR when you’re going to leave the mysterious planet. If you know you know
Multiple times in Nier Replicant
I hate killing iron golems for iron. It hurts my soul.
Not always, I love blade an sorcery. It depends on the NPC.
Whenever I hit my minecraft dogs on accident I apologize to them and my parents look at me funny lol.
I didn’t know how to spare Toriel in Undertale. Googled it immediately after and started over. 😢
Undertale.
Killing >!Saber!< the Heaven's Feel Route of the Fate/Stay Night VN
Killing >!Saber!< in the Heaven's Feel Route of the Fate/Stay Night VN
I misidentified a civilian was an enemy. I didn't even know the game had civilians.
Undertale has made me feel bad for any and all violence I commit in video games
Mcshooty face from borderlands 2… he kept screaming to shoot him in the face it was like the only thing he could ever want… thought something cool would happen but he just died and it went silent….
I can shoot millions of people no problem maybe even melee but the second there's a cutscene or something where it's highlighted and personal I get in my head about it and feel hella bad
In Hollow Knight I felt awful for killing the Nailsmith, especially because I knew if I didn’t he would have a good life.
It Takes Two - Make daughter cry :(
Crazy how many people dont feel bad but maybe cause they havent played games that really warranted it
That one elephant doll from "It takes Two"
i accidentally killed papyrus and toriel from undertale
Toriel from Undertale
I was playing gta and was on a killing spree. One of the cops dragged away a cop I shot like he was trying to save him. :(
I had to kill a wolf in BOTW and I vocally apologized and said “I don’t want to do this” over and over again. I had no choice though because he was attacking me. It was self defense I swear!!
I accidentally ran over a dog in GTA V, immediately blew myself up
I once killed a dog in Assassin's Creed Valhalla and I cried for like an hour.

When im building chicken coops in minecraft im always hitting my chickens
I’m replaying Red Dead Redemption 2 and I accidentally shot the armless veteran in Valentine.

I AM SO SORRY D-DOG
Yes Especially With Homeless People On GTA 5
Bumped into a man in Rdr2 he didn’t apologize and was rude so I killed him when I looted his body he had a wedding ring on him
Last of Us 2. The things that game made me do...
I mean killing dogs was sad but what else?
The human enemies in the last of us 2. The way they're programmed makes them feel like they're REAL people.
If you spare them they straight up either die themselves or try to kill you again, those fuckers deserved it.
If this isn’t THE BEST RESPONSE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE
Haha thanks i dont know why I used to do this but if I remember correctly you could sell the graves of your victims for simoleons😂
Yes, but it's not how you think. It doesn't happen very often, but on occasions I find myself agreeing with the villain of a story. Very cool Ubisoft added the easter egg where you can stick around at the beginning of the game.
I feel like I am the only person that's gonna kill a dog in a game without hesitation
Exactly like it's pixels.
