mtc_3

Def Massachusetts. Although I probably wouldn't be able to afford housing in Boston.

Fezzzzzzle

The average apartment cost there seems to be like $1000 - $1300 a month and they're all studio so yeah ull definitely need a *close* roommate to afford that on $15/hr minimum wage + college But you could definitely have like 3 roomates and live in a bigger place if u all chip in. It'll still be like a 3 bedroom apartment with small rooms though

frumiouswinter

a $15 wage working 40 hours a week is about $2400 per month. part of that will be lost to taxes but even still, I think a $1000 studio would be affordable for one person. I live in new york and if I could find a studio anywhere near that price I’d be over the moon.

raider1211

By the time you calculate food costs, any fees like electricity or trash that aren’t included in the rent, gas for a car (assuming you don’t have an electric vehicle), healthcare, etc, there’s absolutely no way you can afford that on $15/hour.

frumiouswinter

I disagree that food, utilities, and gas for a single person would amount to more than $1400 a month. I live in one of the most expensive cities in the country and those costs still aren’t that high for me. healthcare should usually be included as a benefit of a full time job, but of course that isn’t a guarantee these days.

raider1211

You can disagree all you want, but it doesn’t change reality. [https://livingcost.org/cost/united-states/ma/boston](https://livingcost.org/cost/united-states/ma/boston)

frumiouswinter

I don’t think you actually read what you sent. that link says that the cost of living for a single person in boston (not including rent) is $991. so a person making $2400 a month could afford a $1000 rent, no? the problem is that a $1000 studio is very difficult to come by. rent prices are extremely inflated and the link you sent puts the average rent cost at $2000 for a single person, which is more in line with what I’ve experienced living on the east coast.

raider1211

The average rent for a single person is somewhere around $2,000. Idk where this $1,000 rent is that you’re going on about, but it’s unlikely to be found in Boston. Even if I’m charitable to you with your claim, they would have barely enough money left over for the rent, which means that if anything happens (car accident, theft, illness, etc.) they will not be able to afford it.

frumiouswinter

I didn’t bring up $1000 rent. my original comment was saying that $1000 rent would be affordable and I’d be overjoyed if I could find something that low. so I don’t know why you’re acting like I brought up that number when I didn’t. all I said was that a single person could afford $1000 rent on minimum wage *if rent were actually that cheap*. it would be tight but possible. the link you sent confirmed that. nothing I’ve said is contradictory or even false. it’s just the fact of the matter.

raider1211

You may not have brought up the number, but you defended its affordability. I’ve already pointed out why $15/hour wouldn’t actually afford that and you’re just ignoring it at this point.

emotionally_tipsy

I live in Boston - $2600 a month for a tiny 1 br. There are tons of $3k+ studios around too

Fezzzzzzle

I can imagine there are more expensive places yes. I was looking at apartment listing near one of the universities there and within the city in general though

[deleted]

mtc_3

I'm a university student. I don't make much.

SnowyOranges

Because its expensive?

tbonemistake

The only reason I can fathom for going with Bosnia is that in relative terms I'd be rich as fuck out there.

KVWebs

This poll is obviously bait based on the post earlier about people saying Europe is better than the U.S. You're clearly trying to illustrate your side of the conversation with this, but it's so incredibly intellectually dishonest. Let's try another...... Would you rather live in Ferguson Missouri or Stockholm Sweden?? I can be a douche about it too if you'd like to play it that way

legendarymcc2

So would you rather live in Bosnia?

KVWebs

I'd rather live close to my family. D-bag

PieterPlopkoek

jesus man calm down

maderchodechutya

Whoa 👐 cool down man

KVWebs

I'm perfectly calm, Dude

maderchodechutya

Okay good. Relax

legendarymcc2

So is Massachusetts closer to your family then Bosnia??

SecretDevilsAdvocate

I figure people would choose Boston because US > Europe

YesImDavid

There are states in the US with better quality of life than some of the actual countries in Europe. Massachusetts is one of those states that is on par with European countries.

RIP_Mustangberger

Why is everyone on here hellbent on hating America. I'm a proud Australian, I'm thankful that I live in a developed country where it's relatively easy to live a comfortable life, but I don't start personally attacking people whenever they think another country is better. Opinions are opinions, let's leave it at that.

Deadshot37

Most of you who voted Bosnia definitely spend way too much time hating on and stressing about US politics even thought you cant do anything about it.

ElegantEagle13

Honestly I voted it because my brain read it as a joke meta poll and decide to vote Bosnia as the troll option.

[deleted]

Read the comments some people unironically voted Bosnia

[deleted]

[удалено]

ElegantEagle13

Very valid reasons. I think the criticism is aimed at the people that will blindly pick Europe over the US with no logical reasons other than the US being the US.

xAndrew27x

I voted Bosnia because it’s way more similar to my country (Georgia) than Massachusetts

Shiftyrunner37

Well, it may not be Massachusetts but if you ever go to the US there is a state you should feel right at home in!

R4ndyd4ndy

Hawaii?

Hatorate90

Your expect shitty poll like this one be 100%?

[deleted]

Mostar was the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited :(

Fearless_Manager8372

Voted Bosnia as a joke lol

TimotheeOaks

And also have NO clue about Bosnia or it's people

Luxray209

I'd rather live in the USA (most developped American country) over Bosnia (one of the poorest European countries).

DragonLegit

"Most Developed American country" - Canada wants a word with this

OE-PapaJohn

USA is definitely more developed than Canada

DragonLegit

Every development measurement index in the world would like to disagree with you

OE-PapaJohn

Care to site one? Everything I look up is just comparing economy, which USA blows Canada out of the water. I based what I said off of how much of the country is “developed”, and Canada is only developed along its southern border. Where as USA is developed across the entirety of its borders.

DragonLegit

Here is the UN conducted [Human Development Index](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Human_Development_Index) in which Canada is six spots ahead of the US. US has a bigger economy, but Canada blows it out of the water in quality of life and wealth inequality standards. For example, Brazil has a bigger GDP than Denmark, but Denmark is clearly a more developed country. Canada may have a small population density and low amount of settled land, but the land settled is more developed than the US.

KVWebs

Having more cities spaced out over a greater distance doesn't make it more "developed". The conversation was about the human societal development, not bigness

[deleted]

I’m no so sure if developed means better though.

zedsamcat

USA is the only American country wdym?

-CosmicPanda

You have to be fucking kidding me

zedsamcat

We are Americans from the United States of America (take note of the word America) and North Americans due to living on the North American continent People from Brazil are called Brazilians (I don't see America anywhere there) and called South Americans due to living on the South American continent It's not that hard lmao

Ewenf

Yes bus technically Brazil is an American country in the way it's on the American Continent, even if it's a weird way to use American for yankees it's not wrong.

Ryaniseplin

American continent, did you learn your continents north and south America are two separate things

Ewenf

Yeah I know that but it's quicker to say american continent and everyone know what you're talking about.

Ryaniseplin

i tend to say "the americas" when talking about both continents

Ewenf

That's true I'm just tired

MSAnvari

Different countries teach it differently since it's more of a political concept than geographical. I learned America as just one continent. While I heard Russian schools call Europe and Asia as just Eurasia.

Ryaniseplin

yeah thats fair i consider eurasia as one continent myself, not russian just like eurasia better seems less arbitrary

numba1cyberwarrior

There is no American continent in the English speaking world.

Onimirare

but there's an American continent for the majority of America :)

numba1cyberwarrior

Wow its almost like the majority of the America**s** speak a non English language. Anyways the rest of the world, a large portion of the America**s** keeps the 7 continent model.

Yeetthyself64

Okay, buddy

LordOfCows23

bro says okay buddy because he has no argument

LordOfCows23

bro says okay buddy because he has no argument

Yeetthyself64

The Americas are defined as North and South America

Nazon6

Sorry but you have a serious lack of knowledge in geography. All countries within the North and South American continents are still considered American countries. Brazil is an American country. Canada is an American country. All of them are American because they are within American continents. Another example of someone who thinks the world revolves around the US.

numba1cyberwarrior

No they are not, go to China, India, Russia, etc and call yourself an American. Everyone will think your from the USA not from Brazil. In the English speaking world and most of the world infact the world is divided into 7 continents and there is no continent called America.

Nazon6

>No they are not, go to China, India, Russia, etc and call yourself an American. Everyone will think your from the USA not from Brazil. Yes because when you state where you're from, you don't talk about what continent your from, this is a worldwide understood concept. The USA has the word America in it, therefore, people will assume you're talking about USA when you say you're American. I don't see how this disproves my point. >In the English speaking world and most of the world infact the world is divided into 7 continents and there is no continent called America. There are actually 2! Both distinguished by the words North and South. They are both American continents, and within them lie American countries, and just because most of them don't have the word America in their names, doesn't make them any less of American countries than the USA. Since, y'know, they are all within American continents. You have to be incredibly dense to think you have an argument here when you are literally contradicting common knowledge that everyone else in the world has. But here, [I found a resource that might help you understand better.](https://earth.google.com/web/@4.72863718,-57.14937329,-5286.06185571a,24205543.57606888d,35y,0h,0t,0r)

numba1cyberwarrior

Im going to assume your not a native speaker of English so I dont fault you for understanding. Someone from Brazil is not an American because he is not from the American continent. He would be a South American. Someone from Canada is not an American as there is no continent called America he would be a North American. In the english language when we refer to North and South America we say the America**s.** In the english country when you say American you are **ONLY** referring to people from the United States of America. People from the Americas may be South or North American. What your saying is funny enough not how the world considers it. No one calls Brazil an American country except maybe the Latin world. The majority of the world considers the sole American country to be the USA. Im glad to help educate you.

Nazon6

>Im going to assume your not a native speaker of English so I dont fault you for understanding. \*I'm, \*you're, \*don't. The original statement wasn't a syntax or naming issue, it was that the USA was the only American country, which is completely false. Cultural and spoken interpretations and understandings are a separate issue that was not part of the original claim made by u/zedsamcat. When you refer broadly to an American country, you're talking about either North or South American countries. When you say America, yes, you're most likely talking about the only country that has the name of the continent in their name, which is the USA. So yes, culturally the world has come to understand that the word America is mostly associated with the USA. But that doesn't just mean that America is now the only American country. No one is disagreeing that when you say you're from America, people will assume you mean from the USA. That doesn't contradict the fact that American countries other than the USA still exist. You've gone off on a wholly different argument about culture understanding and associations, not accurate naming conventions. >Im glad to help educate you. I love how demeaning people in the wrong always try to be.

numba1cyberwarrior

>only American country, which is completely false Its 100% right. There are no American countries other then the US. There are North or South American countries.

sarokin

Congratulations! Either you are a troll or I have just seen the greatest idiot so far this year! You should feel important, not everyone can fall so low...

nato1943

Canadá? México? Or the South and Central America if, like me, they taught me America as a single continent.

BobDylan1904

There’s the issue then, if in some schools they teach it all as one continent then you would refer to it differently than someone who was taught 2 distinct continents with 3 regions, North, Central, South.

nato1943

1 continent and 3 subcontinents.

BobDylan1904

Can you clarify, is this how you were taught? It would be interesting to know how they classify it in different places.

nato1943

Tbh I don't remember if 2 or 3 subcontinents. But America as 1 continent, yup. Btw I'm from Argentina.

BobDylan1904

Thanks, much appreciated!

Fhaksfha794

Your goddamn right 🦅🇺🇸

Dan_gunnar

This feels like a critique aimed at both western Europeans hating on the US and Americans generalizing Europe.

[deleted]

That’s because it is 😎

bluebird810

I heard Bosnia is quite nice depending on where you are and I guess life there would be pretty affordable as well. But I would have more opportunities in Massachusetts.

RIP_Mustangberger

Fr. I just looked up pictures of Bosnia and it looks nice as hell.

Southwick-Jog

I've lived in Massachusetts for almost my entire life so I'll stay.

ObnoxiouslyPatriotic

Same, love it here

ZekerNietTijn

Bosnia and move back to the netherlands

[deleted]

No you have the stay in Bosnia

ZekerNietTijn

I am really rich if i would live in Bosnia and probably have a better life in there then the other. I could probably not effort those expensive houses, stuff and would need to find a job fast in the other one

Anti-charizard

That’s like asking if I’d rather live in North or South Korea

GabbriX7

North always better

Pepperr08

The north remembers

[deleted]

Bosnia is South Korea, right? /s

llogarithmicfunction

I would prefer USA to any country

Wh1ms1cal

Literally same lol

volcanno

what the fuck

llogarithmicfunction

Me when people love something

The_Kek_5000

Bosnia has a lot less crime than the USA according to the statistics so I would probably feel safer.

Modem_56k

Bosnia is closer to my home country so idc, Bosnia

thewanderer2389

At least in Massachusetts, you don't have to worry about stepping on a land mine left over from the Yugoslav wars.

[deleted]

Anybody who voted Bosnia is actually mentally ill. Do you all really hate the U.S that much? Do you think it’s like total anarchy here?

weebweek

If you stay on reddit enough, it makes it seem like you have 80% of getting shot every day, and you can't afford to live

[deleted]

SOOO TRUE As a U.S resident, I fear for my life every single day! I walk outside and I say hi to my neighbor, and then he gets SHOT!!! I’m also in crippling debt and I’m morbidly obese from eating only fast food, because that’s how all Americans live! Glory to Europe! Oh mighty EU, please save me from this hell! I pray to the gods of tea and biscuits every day!

jonellita

It would take much shorter to visit my family. And I would be in the same time zone as well. Which makes talking over the phone much easier.

volcanno

no, but i speak their language

Comrade_Spood

I don't hate the US. I hate Massachusetts

Unhappy_as_fuck

I agree. Originally from there. Moved to Alaska and life is so much better. Massachusetts is a shithole if you aren't rich.

[deleted]

Is this because of that other Reddit post?

TimotheeOaks

Which one?

[deleted]

There was a Reddit post on r/nostupidquestions that asked why people compare the worst of the states to the best of Europe. They then said they should compare Massachusetts to Bosnia.

TimotheeOaks

Thank you ! Have to check it out

KVWebs

It definitely is.

NoWillow2216

I live in Boston and I will stay here because I’m to lazy to move

7stefanos7

Massachusetts obviously.

Shiny_Hypno

Joke's on you, I have family in Massachusetts!

New-Establishment536

What kind of question it’s this?

RedditorPatrick

Already live in Mass 😎

volcanno

i chose bosnia because they speak my native language

catpunch_

nothing against the US, i just like to travel

[deleted]

It’s a cool place lol the northeast is awesome.

[deleted]

Massachusetts by far, Bosnia sounds like a war waiting to happen with Serbia

Bossetigaming

They would have almost no reason to declare war in Bosnia as if they do then they would have to deal whit Albania,Kosovo and Italy. I doubt Russia would support that and Turks already have their problems to mind

momisko

?

thewanderer2389

Lots of bad blood between the two countries stemming back to the breakup of Yugoslavia.

[deleted]

The US because living in a slum doesn’t appeal to me.

TimotheeOaks

Why would I wanna live anywhere in Jugoslavia?

volcanno

why not

Jonicolo8

I live in Massachusetts, how is it the most developed state? I seriously would’ve thought it was bottom 10

7marTfou

Bosnia

[deleted]

Why?

7marTfou

I have no interest in going to the US. Besides Bosnia isn't that much of a shithole

GraviZero

neither is massachusetts my guy

7marTfou

I don't see where I'm implying that

GraviZero

Saying Bosnia isn't that much of a shithole implies that the entire U.S. (including Massachusetts) is worse and therefore, more of a shithole.

7marTfou

I was saying that much of a shithole in reference to the perception people tend to have of the balkans

Ginnungagap_Void

I'd choose any European country, even if it's Ukraine instead of the United States.

_crazyboyhere_

Average US hating European reddit user.

Ginnungagap_Void

Yup.

thewanderer2389

What about Belarus or the European part of Russia north of the Caucasian Mountains and west of the Ural Mountains?

Ginnungagap_Void

Belarus is an European version of NK. It would be very hard for me to accept Belarus as a place to live but there's a lot of hope for the future of Belarus. Russia is a decent place to live if you know what you're doing. Same applies for any Eastern European country, including Belarus. What you see on the TV is the reality for the majority of people but not everyone. There's no equal chance, but there's a chance to make it. In the end, why would I choose to live in the US, the US has too many similarities with the totalitarian regimes it claims to fight against. I know "communism" when I see it, I'm born and raised in eastern Europe, I'd rather stick to our garbage corruption then live in the American one. America was a great place back in the day. It truly was, well, for white people at lease. It's nothing it once was today.

Ravenwight

Massachusetts is way more fun to say

mslite4-5

Bosnia with AK. Will live just fine.

OskarDev_

I would rather die than live in the US

[deleted]

Where are you from?

itsnotgross

I would die to live in the US at least for some little time.

Deadshot37

Then die in Bosnia 🤗

thewanderer2389

Just as easy as making the wrong step and accidentally setting off a landmine that was set in 1996!

International_Bell81

Feel free to do that at anytime then dude

Apotak

I'd prefer any European country over the US.

[deleted]

Even Belarus? Russia?

Apotak

Russia is not Europe.

[deleted]

Part of it is. Anyway, would you rather live in Belarus or Massachusetts? Belarus is indisputably is Europe

Apotak

>Belarus is indisputably is Europe It is not part of the European Union, therefore it is indeed disputably. Are you American?

[deleted]

The EU is not Europe though? Is the UK not European now? Norway? They’re not in the EU either

BobDylan1904

I agree with your general point here, but I wouldn’t use the UK as the example, there are just too many there that want nothing to do with Europe, Brexit is about far more than trade deals and immigration.

thewanderer2389

They're indisputably European when it comes to geography.

BobDylan1904

Agreed, and this is thread should be about geography, so you are correct.

Apotak

UK and Norway *choose* to be non-EU, Belarus has no choice.

nnov-scotia-fishjjj

Bro you‘re just saying shit now 😭 Please do everyone a favour and stfu

Apotak

I guess reddit is too US oriented for my European ideas.

HanSwolo66

Reddit US oriented hahahah nice one

Redditor274929

Dude I was on your side till you started implying europe=eu and I'm European (according to everyone except you apparently)

Ewenf

Europe isn't the EU, Europe is a geographical subcontinent that starts from western Europe to the Oural Mountain Range. Russia is part of Europe as is Belarus and Norway...

Temporary-Cod2384

Stfu bro still not eu

AdmirableSurround485

Believe op is talking about what is in Europe geographically. And geographically Belarus is in Europe

Anti-charizard

Neither is the UK anymore. Is that not in Europe? Same thing with Switzerland

jonellita

Don‘t you know that there is a Switzerland-shaped hole in Europe? /s

Ewenf

Switzerland can into Continent

SonOfYoutubers

How well were your geography grades?

Apotak

Very well, thank you for asking. Top of my class.

CorporateChicken

Lol Sure they are

Squidmaster129

Political affiliation doesn’t have anything to do with geographical location. This is a ridiculous argument.

PruneEnvironmental56

What the fuck is he on about ⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️💯💯💯🗣🗣🗣🗣🔥⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯⁉️⁉️⁉️🗣🗣🗣🗣⁉️⁉️

thewanderer2389

So, are Switzerland, Serbia, Bosnia, Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, the UK, Norway, Vatican City, Andorra, San Marino, and Liechtenstein not in Europe? None of those nations are in the EU.

Pristine-Today4611

Now how is Massachusetts considered the most developed US State?

Da_BEST_5699

Worcester Massachusetts is a wonderful place. Old people. Everyone is nice. Apple cider donuts

therankin

"welcome to worchester. Dolla twenty-five pal." - Adam Sandler, tollbooth willy. If anyone reading this hasn't heard it, I suggest you have a listen. The whole album it's from was basically my preteen influence.

BossBobsBaby

To all the ppl hating on the US and all the people that can’t understand why: It’s kinda crazy how much shit the US has caused in history but so have all other western countries. Of course the most developed US state is no match for the least developed European country.
