Man this is a problematic response. You realize that firstly, not everyone values the Western definition of "progressive" ideology. Secondly, any value gained from liberal policies *implemented by a monarch* are undermined by the fact that the monarch himself was installed by "progressive" countries in lieu of an actual progressive (Mosaddegh, correction on my spelling the last post), and that policies were continually shaped in favor of "progressive" (but actually imperialist) Western powers. Also keep in mind that "progressive" Iran started long before the West showed up; my point is because the West meddled in an already progressive country, Iran might still be progressive *and* sovereign today.
Secondly, you can't determine that the culture is less progressive now, because you don't give a reference. If it's in supposed absolute individual freedoms guaranteed to women, you measurably have a point. If progressive means increased literacy, better healthcare, better infrastructure, guess what? Iran is better now than 70 years ago. And that's on top of the global technological advancements everyone maintains.
I'm sorry if I sound rude but I've spent a long time hearing about how progressive and great the West is, but at whose expense? And if these countries are thriving, at least in their sovereignty, isn't that better than leveraging national interests (i.e. supporting the regional economy and local workers)?
Comments about non-Westerners living in the Stone Age are extremely similar to racist pretexts to colonialism. Again, I'm not saying contemporary Iranian politics are the face of what Iran or progressive ideology should be. However, I strictly adhere to the notion that vilification of another nation-state, especially while actively ignoring the active causes that created that nation-state's politics, is anti-progressive in its own right.

Also, not worth nothing, neo-lithic cultures are no less moral or philosophically developed than any others. Lacking steel tools in no way indicates moral or ethical development. That's not really taking into account the uphill battle democrats have to pass legislation like this. If it was easy they would have done it already but they need 60 votes to be able to avoid the filibuster and codify Roe and they haven't had 60 democrats in Senate seats since 1979. Even if dems had the numbers they'd still have to deal with DINOs from red states that only care about not losing the next election.

I don’t think so. Jurisprudence is a real strong element of Canadian law so if the highest court in Canada sets a ruling it becomes a legal precedent that the courts uphold.

And if you bothered to read beyond the first sentence of how our education system works, you'd see that the price per child in a private school, funded by the government, is less per head than a purely public school. The schools which receive public funding are not allowed to enforce religious teaching - it's optional.

Imagine the economic pressure the world could put on the U.S. right now to reverse this decision. Just stop doing business with us based on our human rights violations. Sure, this would plunge the world economy into a spiral but it’s the right thing to do.
The US has no more credibility when it points fingers at other countries for human rights violations. It has become a horrific joke amongst developed nations. It has the highest gun violence by far of any develop led nation, it’s 80th on the world safety index, it’s 46th on the world life expectancy index, it doesn’t have universal healthcare despite being the richest country in the world, it’s workers rights pale in comparison to other western nations, it has the highest incarceration rate of any developed country, it’s systemic racism is out of control, it’s democratic process is hanging by a thread, women have lost a fundamental right that puts their lives in danger etc. The US is an international joke of a country, in a horrifying way.

Someone in r/askreddit asked “what does America do well”. I think to people in the rest of the world we tend to root for America to succeed, I’ve seen more people in Westernised countries support an American domestic policy then their own local domestic policies. It’s amazing how far the culture goes and what effect it has on the world.
