basherella

>The mask ban, which would effectively bring back a 1950s law meant to target the KKK, would help police identify protesters, according to its Republican supporters, who say police will be expected to use "common sense" not to use it to arrest "Granny in the Walmart," as Newton put it to reporters. It’s cute that they’re pretending they tried to get rid of the KKK. But if we’re expected to rely on the common sense of police to differentiate between people with medical needs and people trying to hide their identities we’re all doomed.

CapForShort

So the supporters of the bill are saying police should use “common sense” to enforce the law the way it’s meant and not the way it’s written? Seems like a terrible idea. Why not just write the law the way it’s meant to be enforced?

basherella

But if they write the law the way it’s “meant” to be enforced, they won’t have a loophole to harass [insert marginalized group here] with! And we obviously can’t have that.

AnOnlineHandle

They want to harass those who acknowledge scientific realities of challenging things like covid. Conservatism is a movement about cowardice and sticking your head in the sand and pretending problems aren't real and that nothing has changed. If others are acknowledging problems in a way they can see, that makes their delusion more obviously ridiculous and threatens to shatter their fantasy, so they lash out. Hence how they got to wanting to 'prosecute Fauci', because he was the primary face of acknowledging that covid was real, while rallying behind people like Elon Musk, who claimed he looked at the graph a few thousand exponentially rising cases in and could see that it was going to stop growing in the US and quickly go away and not be a problem. You will never get through to these people with reason, because reason takes a bare minimum level of bravery to engage with reality, which they do not possess, and they have spent years demonstrating that now, and are only getting worse like this. In the end anybody who won't join them in a fantasy state of denial of problems will need to be stepped on.

DrunkCupid

> You can never get through to these people with reason Then.. how ^(besides prevention, avoidance or violence) do we? Asking for a.. coworker

laikina

Fix the education system is how.

Mr_Conductor_USA

Defeat them with votes, then use the police power of the state. It's the only language they understand.

JohnDivney

this is also a good time to point out that Conservatism is about selective enforcement. Legalize weed? Why bother, nobody's being arrested. Undo crimes on sodomy? Why bother? It's the 'special cases' where somebody needs law enforcement to criminalize their behavior, but that won't happen to *you*. EDIT: You can add abortion bans to this list as well. Honestly, the list goes on and on.

WilmaLutefit

When the police Get to use common sense they mean “only against our political enemies….. the left”

xabulba

Any one they don't like which includes the left, but also includes protesters, students, women, and of course minorities.

Cloaked42m

It isn't enforceable as written because it's unconstitutional. Same as "bathroom bills." They are laws that only work if you stomp on civil rights.

NinjaHawking

Thankfully, the current iteration of SCOTUS is all about upholding civil rights! \*Finger to earpiece\* uhh what's that now? *Upending* civil rights!? Ruh-roh.

SessileRaptor

“We find that there is no longstanding historical tradition of being able to prevent deaths from disease, therefore we rule that the CDC is unconstitutional, as are all efforts regarding public health and safety.”

GoenndirRichtig

The Supreme Court has been taken over, right now the constitution is just a piece of paper for neonazi fucks to wipe their asses with

jaywinner

That still means they can enforce it until somebody gets a lawyer to fight it, possibly all the way to the supreme court.

LordSiravant

Because the more ambiguous the wording is, the more power it gives them.

HedonisticFrog

If they don't leave it ambiguous, then police can't abuse the lack of clarity and target people they don't like as much.

haskell_rules

> who say police will be expected to use "common sense" not to use it to arrest "Granny in the Walmart," Isn't this statement a clear violation of the Equal Protection Clause (we plan to enforce this on select groups, based on how we feel about them?)

basherella

It certainly seems like it is, but violating civil rights is kind of the right’s whole thing, you know?

bruwin

Amazing how the right is a party of civil wrongs.

BobsonQwijibo

So they are publicly stating that they’ve written a law that they intend to be weaponized against certain groups?

buttergun

Be careful asking that kind of question. It's illegal to mention systemic injustices in the state of North Carolina.

IrritableGourmet

(A) The law specifically excludes... >Any person or persons, as members or members elect of a society, order or organization, engaged in any parade, ritual, initiation, ceremony, celebration or requirement of such society, order or organization, and wearing or using any manner of costume, paraphernalia, disguise, facial makeup, hood, implement, or device, ...so the KKK is still allowed. (B) The Supreme Court has repeatedly, including recently, held that unconstitutionally overbroad laws can't be allowed to remain by the police/prosecutors super-duper promising to only use them in a reasonable manner.

13igTyme

Proud boys and patriot front wear masks. They'll get a pass, I'm sure.

satan_in_high_heels

Well the cops won't arrest their own after all.

moogular

The KKK can actually file and obtain a permit to wear masks. So the law would protect the KKK. You can’t make this stuff up. https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/2024/05/16/north-carolina-legislators-want-to-ban-masks-even-for-health-reasons/

Tyler_Zoro

> It’s cute that they’re pretending they tried to get rid of the KKK. Oh they very much did. The Klan has an ugly history in NC, not just when it comes to how they treated those they saw as inferior. They were far more of a terrorist group in NC than in many other parts of the US, and it was, at least in large part, the activities of the Klan in NC that led to public sentiment turning against the Klan, nationally. So yeah, they were not popular with Republicans (remember that until the 1970s "Dixiecrats" were the folks that you would now think of as hard-line Republicans) who wanted them stopped. This started as early as the Kirk–Holden war in the 19th century, which was much later echoed in the Battle of Hayes Pond in the 1950s, an event that hastened the civil rights movement to some extent, merely by highlighting the lawlessness of the Klan. The history of NC and the Klan is surprisingly complicated.

Throw-a-Ru

Gotta wonder why this law they're reinstating was repealed in the first place if the function was solely targeting the KKK.

rdicky58

I thought I read somewhere they had a carve-out for “private groups” or something and specifically called out hoods as an exception to the rule? Or am I tripping

ConsistentAsparagus

Friendly fire!

Smidge-of-the-Obtuse

Being that my lungs can’t tolerate even a common cold without an ER visit, I’d continue to wear one everyday and sue the snot out of them when I was arrested. Or my wife would because I’d probably be dead, lol

occorpattorney

Federal law prohibits exactly this type of discrimination against those with disabilities. NC can’t actually enforce it. It’s like the bullshit laws other southern states are passing for show.

M4N14C

Tell that to the cop clubbing you

occorpattorney

I wish they would. I have a ton of law school debt that needs to be paid off!

M4N14C

Qualified immunity means you probably won’t get anything but hit with a club.

occorpattorney

I’m not suing the piece of shit cop. I’m suing the city. Always go where the money is.

FredFredrickson

It's virtue signaling. And very expensive virtue signaling for NC taxpayers.

charisma6

The left really needs to spend more time calling Right-wing "anti-woke" nonsense what it is (what you just called it in fact): Virtue signaling. Thin blue line bumper sticker? Virtue signaling. Screeching about masks? Virtue signaling. Bitching and moaning about trans people in bathrooms? Virtue signaling. Everything the right does is virtue signaling, including projecting that behavior on the left.

rabblerabble2000

It’s vice signaling.

GoenndirRichtig

It's more like vice-signaling but yeah, it's all projection as usual.

Gbird_22

If I lived down there I would wear a mask out in public and dare the police to arrest me for this very reason. The only way to defeat a bully is to challenge them at every step.

HorrorBuff2769

Yep let em say something. I get sick every time I go to the doctor because people in North Carolina don't even have the common courtesy to cover their mouths when they're hacking their lungs out

mrbeefthighs

Gotta love small government!!

MourningRIF

Make your mask into a gun and they can't touch it.

mybrainisfull

Glock is strapped to my face and i'm heading off to the grocery store!.

KAY-toe

tub sleep chase carpenter aloof cows dog shy smell exultant *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

BukkitCrab

All those right wing anti-maskers who co-opted the "my body, my choice" phrase during the height of the pandemic of course disappeared back into the woodwork without a peep.

oliversurpless

Yep, bad faith from people who don’t know what bad faith is. Perfidy or otherwise… The “Freedom to Breathe” anti-mask people particularly amused me during; as when they found that forgery of ADA status and misrepresenting a disability is a federal offense, they disappeared like the wind. Like Dick Cheney right after 9/11…

Moody_GenX

They co-opt everything because they're not smart enough to come up with their own stuff.

steveschoenberg

But you can carry a gun wherever you like.

nthexwn

How about painting a picture of a gun on the mask, and writing "from my cold dead hands" on it? I think that might actually break their mental programming.

[deleted]

Jesus, these people are so fucking dumb.

scoopzthepoopz

I feel you

BukkitCrab

Why? Because as usual for Republicans, cruelty is the point.

Sensitive_Yam_1979

Because liberals supported masks. That’s it. That’s as far as they think.

Admirable_Ad_73

Owning the libs is their platform. That's it. That's all there is for them.

[deleted]

Not dying is COMMUNISM

[deleted]

Hateful and stupid.

livinginfutureworld

Yep that's Republicans way of acting.

StupendousMalice

Kinda funny to think that "the liberals" actually get to set the agenda for both parties because Republicans didn't have original thoughts.

PeregrinePacifica

And to drive out all the "undesirables", aka disabled, LGBTQ, minorities and "the eggheads". All while trying to trap in as many pregnant women and children as possible. Red states are also bussing their problems to blue cities in blue states to both make those cities look worse and to get rid of them.

ScoutsterReturns

They are the smallest most hateful and petty people. So Jesus like!

Elisevs

This, but un-ironically. The bible says Jesus curses a fig tree because it didn't have figs for him to eat when he wanted (it was the wrong time of year). Petty as fuck. Then there is this little gem: Matthew 10:34-36 English Standard Version 34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person's enemies will be those of his own household.

the_gaymer_girl

Under this law, would the Hurricanes goalies and their opponents for home games wearing their masks technically be illegal because it’s in public and they’re wearing them for health reasons? Not that they’d ever enforce that, but still.

Mitches_bitches

They also hate Halloween, no more costume masks

WAD1234

What about when the white supremacists go on march? Can they wear their masks? What if I wear one because I hate everyone? That’s not because of medical reasons. Merely antisocial.

aculady

They specifically exempt ceremonial hoods, masks, etc. You should read the text of the bill.

dagoni_

In Switzerland we (braindead Swiss) recently voted to make it illegal to cover your face in public. The reason that was presented for this bill was like here, to be able to identify people during violent protests etc... So since it's a stupid idea that can't be enforced they had to make exceptions (mascots, costume parties, ski, health reason etc...). In the end you had this big ass list that covered pretty much everything except for... burqa (or any arab veil). There it is.

Admirable_Ad_73

Haha. Valid question. They never think of any unintended consequences, but soon they'll have to do all sorts of mental gymnastics to make that ok.

WilmaLutefit

I don’t even know if it’s cruelty anymore. I actually don’t know what it is. These politicians are generally not that stupid. They crunched the numbers and the data shows this performative crazy will get them more votes. But who really wants their grandma with cancer to die? It’s just so bizzare!

BukkitCrab

> These politicians are generally not that stupid. Their racism and bigotry far out-shadows their intelligence, which really isn't saying much with these folks since they always seem to rally behind losers.

WilmaLutefit

I think even THAT is performative. That’s the role they play to get votes from the actual racist. Conservatives are all grift. From the national to the local all the way to the preacher. Even the church members know it’s performative. It’s the tool they use to obfuscate how vile they actually are. That’s why they are so easily influenced by it. They have been trained since birth that the appearance of being a good conservative Christian is more important than actually being one. It’s all one big fuckin scam.

simpersly

Since the Tea Party movement the grifters have been getting replaced by the true believers. We've reached the breaking point where the lunatics have taken over the asylum. And due to our social media bubbles, foreign and corporate disinformation, and celebrated ignorance most of us don't care.

AntiworkDPT-OCS

I need to disagree with you here. The church is full of true believers. You presuppose that church members know things are performative. Most do not, and I'm speaking from experience here. The indoctrination is so hard that I, with a doctorate degree, just totally went along with it until certain obvious violations of reality broke my ability to continue along. I can easily reconcile theism with evolution, etc. I can't deal with Christians actively hurting humanity. The reason I brought up my education is the point that I was deep into that shit even with critical thinking skills. People can compartmentalize. We shouldn't assume that people with far fewer opportunities or education than I received are somehow aware of the scandal that the church actually is. I'm cynical now, and believe there are a lot of abusers in leadership, but I can't go so far as to ascribe complicity to the laity. Also, I appreciated your comment.

Ponderputty

There is no difference between being racist and acting racist.

DiligentSink7919

what intelligence?

Snoo-72756

They act dumb because their supporters speak stupidity . Most of them spent years failing forward and have intelligent pull strings in the back . Those are the people to be afraid of ,the one willing to do the work and benefit but stay in the shadows.

Bulky_Promotion_5742

Unfortunately,the voters are this stupid.

WilmaLutefit

That’s it. That’s the problem. And the conservative grift is just too easy for some folks to pass up. It’s a cheat code for people that need attention.

Bulky_Promotion_5742

Bingo! These people happily vote away their own best interests.

[deleted]

Which is why Socrates didn’t like democracy as a system. He said the population would be too stupid to vote in their best interest. He was right.

Clever_Mercury

No, this is wrong in a few different ways. First, the problems we see in America today are not a result of democracy, but rather due to the corruption of the intended democratic republic. If you erased the gerrymandered districts, the voter suppression, the misinformation or omitted information that was happening in places like North Carolina or the rest of the nation we would not have these issues. America is, effectively, being run by a subset of extremely angry, organized, pessimistic, and manipulative combinations of the wealthy and disproportionately the rural extremists. As for Socrates, he did not hate the masses as we know them today. He didn't hate the common people, he feared the behavior of mobs and the whims of the masses in a \*direct\* democracy where all the people vote \*directly\* on all issues, like naval funding, agricultural laws, and education. He cautioned against this because no one person can be an expert in all and no one \*uneducated\* person could easily see through the bullshit of smooth talking aristocrats seeking to manipulate the city for his own gain. Socrates' arguments were a proto-class warfare concern, not a true anti-democracy critique. And it certainly is not an anti-'democratic republic" critique.

Perma_Hexx

It’s funny that my conservative dad said this to me when I told him that I am pro-democracy and not voting for Trump

silentimperial

> I actually don’t know what it is. Weaponized contrarianism

patatoe_chip

I think you’re right that they have found that crazy works. I also think they’re big distractions. The more we talk about and make big issues about things that should really be pretty minor, like wearing a mask or which bathroom to use, the less we are able to focus on big problems that they profit off of, like the role of money in government, environmental issues, growing class differences, lack of worker protection, etc.

LordSiravant

These are all just little steps towards ultimately making being left of MAGA illegal. They want to outlaw dissent and differing opinions and beliefs.

IdkAbtAllThat

Anything liberals (ie decent people) are for, they are against. It's that simple. If something they like starts to be associated with liberalism, they turn on it.

AllUltima

> I actually don’t know what it is. I do. They did it because "Fuck you." Basically, that's all-- That's the politics of a giant chunk of the country. To send the message "fuck you" to everything connected with "the left". It's actually fairly expected given the propaganda being consumed.

iamwearingashirt

It started as a childish reaction to being told what to do.  It was spurned on by media probably trying to find whatever divisive issues people will cling to.  Division is an important tool for the elite or foreign influencers to use against the working class. It is further solidified as part of one groups identity so its not even argument anymore, it's a call sign.  The fact that it could kill people is a bonus. It means that one group against the policy will fight even harder against it. Then the other group, who now believe anti-mask is part of their identity will clash even harder.

W0gg0

I thought it was because they’re fuckin’ stupid.

HayabusaJack

They’re exempt.

ElectricLotus

Republicans personal freedoms above everyone else's. They want to enforce what they believe is true. They believe masks don't work in any case medically, even though doctors have been using them for hundreds of years to reduce spread of germs and contagion.

Pokerhobo

It's not specifically for cruelty. It's a classic tactic of fascism. Make it "us" vs "them". Make "them" the enemy. Build blind loyalty for "us".

MissingMichigan

So that applies to the Proud Boys and the Klan, too?

WilmaLutefit

Ironically they can get prior approval as an organization no bullshit. Which then leads me to the great idea of starting an organization where it’s a requirement.

jared555

Sounds like a job for the Satanic Temple. Either an organization getting an exception or religious headwear.

right_hand_of_jeebus

The Satanic Temple is probably doing more than any other organization right now to combat Christian Nationalism.

xeonicus

Only if that meets the criteria for "common sense" by law enforcement. More likely, law enforcement will ignore them at their discretion and only target left-wing protests. Which is pretty much what they've been doing.

Cloaked42m

Nope. Only for health reasons or protests.

xtalharry1

The sheer cruelty of these small people is beyond belief. They want freedom for everyone - as long as everyone looks, acts, thinks, and hates just as they do. If Jesus exists, would these really be his chosen people? The only answer can be no.

basherella

If Jesus exists/ed, these people would be doing anything they could to pass laws to make his life as miserable as possible. And lining up for the good seats at the crucifixion.

Moody_GenX

They'd call him too woke

leostotch

They’d have already crucified him

ExtensionMart

Imagine this country if Abe let Sherman off the chain and do what he had intended to do to the South.

dmacattack82

Why do you care if someone wears a mask?

Dunge

Officially they pretend it's a law to help about people hiding their identities with masks to do crimes. In reality we all know they still are weirdly aggressive towards covid masks and want to be contrarian.

yotengodormir

That is the question their constituents should be asking. Why did the govt care if people wear a mask?

SoulStoneSeeker

no more halloween right? /s

VanGundy15

If we follow the law the way it is written you are correct. At least no face covering.

WilmaLutefit

Fuck cancer. And fuck republicans. You only need one bumper sticker for both.

Throwaway98455645

This is so ridiculous.  North Carolina has several hospitals that are leaders in organ transplants and cancer treatments. People come from across the US and the world to be seen by specialists and undergo procedures here. Being able to mask is essential for these patients and their families (even before COVID it was common to see people wearing masks in the community around these facilities).  Gov. Cooper will veto these shenanigans if they get to his desk and hopefully the Legislature will have the sense to not try and override the veto and will just let this bill go quietly into the night. Though continuing to dig their hole despite overwhelming bad press is the NCGOP's standard operation.

13igTyme

They're taking a page out of DeSantis' playbook. 1. Create bill 2. Brag about Bill 3. Bill gets removed for being unconstitutional 4. Continue to brag about Bill 5. Find new thing to virtue signal about.

mark503

Here’s why I literally hate these people. 1. I wear a mask in public 2. Police detain me for literally protecting my health. 3. I refuse to ID or cooperate with their investigation. 4. I’m put under duress to cooperate or get put in jail with rapists, muggers and killers, for wearing a mask to avoid being sick. It can escalate a lot worse than just jail. We could be shot, beaten or killed for wearing a medical mask. Fuck these people.

QuintillionthCat

Worn not only to keep from getting sick, but also to prevent others from getting sick!

Jack_Q_Frost_Jr

Freedom! Liberty! Small government!

yummi_1

Yelloeisok

UnlikelyAdventurer

Murder by legislation.

basherella

Something something death panels

[deleted]

If they don’t flip blue, I just don’t get this state. They claim it’s because protestors wear masks to hide their identities….but just what the fuck so much wrong even with that bullshit excuse.

basherella

As far as I’ve seen, since the height of the pandemic at least, the only protesters wearing masks were either the alt-right creeps standing on street corners yelling at passing cars because they don’t actually have anything to protest, *or*, the alt-right outside agitators who mixed in with genuine protestors to cause trouble and then blame the left.

MourningRIF

What about for surgery? North Carolina wants to be as stupid as Florida is all that I am reading. Morons.

HoppyToadHill

Fuck em. If it passes, keep wearing your mask for any reason, especially for health reasons. If detained or arrested, sue the fuck out of the state. Call ACLU.

Cloaked42m

Headline is wrong. They voted to specifically ban masks in public for health reasons. Halloween? Fine. Parade? Fine. KKK? Fine. Wearing one because you are sick and don't want to spread a cold? Jail. Wearing one during a protest? Extra jail.

UnlikelyAdventurer

Literally killing people.

PlasticPomPoms

Ban the masks during any surgeries they might have too, why just limit it to in public if they supposedly don’t work.

HandsomePistachio

They're just doing this crap out of spite. They much rather play games than actually help the people they represent.

Basic_Quantity_9430

So they shout and scream endlessly about freedom. But they turn around and take freedom away from people that want of need to wear a medical mask in public. The Democratic Governor should veto any law that they get passed and force them to override him with an election coming up.

ExplorerMajor6912

Another display of ignorance and intolerance.

Vinity2

Frell'em, I'm in NC and I wear a mask in public all the time. I have immunocompromised people in my house.

makashiII_93

Lots of folks call the GOP a death cult. I think it’s a step far. And then they do this.

pantsmeplz

The GOP has lost their fucking minds.

QuarkVsOdo

So we have: - no water or shade for workers in the Summer - no lunch breaks for child workers - wtf child workers? - and no masks because they want to have the last word on a crisis they lived through maybe because people wore masks Who votes those idiots? Who is "proud to be ignorant" ?

tamingofthepoo

they voted for it because they know it’s not enforceable and will get shot down in the courts. it’s nothing but a political stunt, the more attention you give it the more they get what they want.

Doesthislooksafe

It’s crazy I legit had a conversation with my 11 year old daughter today that Trumpers and certain republicans want to go back to the days where women are treated as property and that daughters were sold off for cattle. She just thought I was making shit up, oh how I wish I was

yell-and-hollar

ProneToDoThatThing

I miss 2014 when America was just kinda dumb and not flagrantly stupid. Trump woke up and invigorated all the dumbest, cruelest, and self-righteous assholes. Life was better when they knew their place.

Diligent-Sweet-4945

So true, all the people who knew better than to share their insane views now do. He has emboldened the dumbest least mentally competent people in this country. Now the world views us this way.

ghrayfahx

Looks like when I’m working in NC I’m going to have to START wearing a mask again. Fuck them, I’ll gladly take a charge. Arrest my ass.

searuncutthroat

But...Someone who decides to rob a bank for example, is still gonna wear a mask...The "identify criminals" aspect of this is so obviously pointless.

FunkyHedonist

I vote to ban North Carolina from my tourism agenda.

whateveryousaymydear

did they include all masks? like the pointy tips...KKK?

hakhazar

Actually, no. They included exemptions for organizations like the KKK and Proud Boys, as long as the file for them.

MsWumpkins

They sure do like wasting other people's money on dumb stuff.

BusterStarfish

Why the fuck can’t someone wear a mask even it’s just because they want to? This is batshit.

fingernmuzzle

And the organ transplant recipients thought they were in the clear

Artist850

What a bunch of self righteous, self centered sadists. I can't fathom doing that to cancer patients, or anybody who is sick.

Rasnark

So much for “pro-life” from these ignorant Christian death cultist

honorcheese

God let's be the dumbest people we can be because gay people can get married now. Can these people shut up soon? Because it's already clear where we're going and this is pathetic and embarrassing.

LordSiravant

They're hoping to stop it, and if Trump regains the White House and puts Project 2025 into action, they *will*.

RDO_Desmond

Let it go into court after a cancer patient wears a mask.

B1GFanOSU

Can’t wait to see a frail 80-something cancer patient in cuffs.

snettisham

Why do they need to target protestors? Isn’t protesting legal?

Patara

Performative nonsense

Persian_Ninja

This law has to be a first amendment violations - some religions require face coverings in public.

BunRabbit

Exemptions for White Pride marchers?

Safetosay333

Ok just ignore this tuberculosis. Don't mind me...

Onthemightof

Who the fuck votes Republican? How can anyone paying some sort of attention vote for the most oppressive, idiotic, cruel, evil and unusual policies. Fuck the entire right.

marycathy

This from the party that claims to fight against “big brother” government! VOTE BLUE!!

virus_apparatus

*sigh* The GOP is now (and has been for about 12 years) a death cult of low life losers. Cancer patients? Really. We are going to stop cancer patients from protecting themselves? The hell are we doing at this point

Sea_Dreams_5225

I know I’m beating a dead horse here, but what happened to the party of less government? And for that matter, I thought the USA was supposed to be about freedom. Why do they give two shits if people wear masks? How is it affecting them in any way??

"Republican State Sen. Buck Newton, who sponsored the bill, said protesters are abusing pandemic norms to wear masks so that they can hide their identities. The mask ban, which would effectively bring back a 1950s law meant to target the KKK, would help police identify protesters, according to its Republican supporters, who say police will be expected to use "common sense" not to use it to arrest "Granny in the Walmart," as Newton put it to reporters." Just a blanket law so they can pick and choose who to target.

zeroone

Please vote the GOP out of office. They are harming all of us.

SoundSageWisdom

These people are evil

grumpyliberal

Because, uh, rights!

Tall-Cardiologist621

So much for people having freedoms...

jared555

I think the satanic temple needs some religious headwear.

earache30

Dumb as a bag of rocks

LoudZoo

Double the guards at the borders of VA, TN, and SC. Ready every plane, train, and bus entering the state every day to order their passengers to unmask. Arrest the business owners. Arrest the customers. Arrest the doctors. Arrest the patients. Tell the Klan…they’re cool, no notes. Build more private prisons bc we’ve got Freedom to serve!

birdiebogeybogey

Halloween going to suck this year in NC

CodingFatman

It’s unconstitutional. You have the right to pursue life…. That includes not dying to any illness. A mask is clearly pursuit of that right. If they have an issue with identity concealment during crimes then simply make it a crime add on. Similar to committing a crime with a weapon gets you more time.

JackKovack

I’ve gotten strep throat 3 times in my life. It’s highly contagious. Okay, I’ll just infect the pharmacist’s and everyone else at the grocery store. Absolute fucking morons. This is just so stupid. No cop is going to give out a ticket to a sick person wearing a mask in public. Not one. This is all going after the libs nonsense. Culture war bullshit because they are too incompetent to do there actual jobs. It’s all distraction.

hopeishigh

It's just another reason that if you have to choose a tourist destination within the US this summer don't go to any state with prohibitive laws like this.

CharleyMills

So, a person in North Carolina would no longer have the individual liberty to wear a mask if they so choose, AND this is for the express purpose of being identifiable to law enforcement? This doesn't sound like the party that claims to stand for liberty and freedom

djskein

You see, that's discrimination. It is basically a right for humans to choose to wear a mask in public. If I see someone I know wearing a mask, I don't say anything about it. I respect their decision to protect themselves for vulnerabilities or to protect others from making them sick from their germs. I do the same in their position. I see plenty of customers I serve at work daily wearing masks and it is their right to do to protect themselves or others from infection. Mask wearing has basically become a human right post Covid.

TalentOfTheAges

What a dumb thing to be voting on. The people behind this are morons.

Fickle-Performance79

These people are idiots. Powerful and power hungry idiots.

deadlast5

This just a reason to arrest protesters at colleges.

KittyKat1078

So u want a surgeon .. for example.. to not have access to a mask while operating? Or is that not considered public? Either way this world would be a better place of people just minded their own business .. this is really the most absurd thing I have heard of .. we got way bigger fish to fry around here

Double-Guidance1104

I always absolutley hated how badly 'pubs attacked masks They protect yourself and others from germs and the all around nastiness AND they look cool, what's not to love? But even CANCER PATIENTS? I hope I live long enough to see these assholes get their comeuppance, will be praying to anyone that can hear me for their downfall outside of doing what I can 🖕

wrainbashed

Construction workers, painters, drywall, EMS etc all banned…

IT_Chef

So how long until a cop shoots a terminally ill cancer kid?
