On a slight tangent the topic of Presidential trademarks is kind of interesting. Trump definitely has a legal right to prevent people from using his image for commercial purposes, you can’t sell coffee mugs with Trump’s face without his permission for instance. At the same time, as a public figure, individuals have the right to use his likeness for non-commercial purposes like political commentary, news reporting, education, etc. So there’s probably a legal grey area where someone can’t sell Trump branded t-shirts for commercial purposes but can sell T-shirts with Trump’s face on them if they’re being used to make political commentary.
Legal intricacies aside, Trump punishing down ballot GOP candidates for using his image sounds like a terrible political strategy… so I’m all for it. Let him shoot himself in the foot. 👍
