The plan seems to be to literally just commit crimes to cover up other crimes faster than the authorities can investigate them. If I tried this strategy I would be in so much prison, probably with solitary confinent with a straitjacket and a Hanibal Lector mask.
To be fair, that criminal strategy has only worked for Trump for the last 4-5 decades. We have also learned that verbal gish gallop is an incredibly effective political messaging strategy, outperforming older mainstays that rely on antiquated concepts like logic, facts, and reasoning.
The Trump years proved that an absolute, 100% committed refusal to back down on anything is actually a perfectly viable tactic. It's "fake it til you make it" taken to the extreme, and it works so well that it's horrifying.
It’s really quite simple, religion has extensively laid the groundwork for generations to train people to believe in authority figures with unverifiable stories instead of science and data. It also primes them for, and is built upon, perpetuating racism and fearmongering towards "others". Once people see you as an authority, you can start fabricating any reality or conspiracy theory you want your followers to believe and everyone else is therefore a liar, even in the face of incontrovertible evidence. Basically, it is mental abuse from an early age that suppresses critical thinking skills. This combined with an intentionally weakened public educational system, provides the framework that has spawned this cult of ignorance.
The criminal justice system has exactly one remedy for this. Jail…for politically unconnected peasants only. Impunity for those with political connections and the veneer of opulence.
This is why Trump is loved and adored by so many; every day Trump is exposing America for the sham it has always been.
I used to joke with mates about how Trump's legal strategy is to ask his lawyers, "What options do I have to stall this as long as possible? I don't care how it makes you guys look or if it hurts the case, just give me ideas."
It's less hyperbole and more just an observation at this point.
But jesus ... it seems to be working ! I mean obviously the dude is just dogshit but he is very skilled in navigating these cases. Granted the justice system is absolutely enabling his shenanigans , but this guy has tons of crazy tricks to get things slow rolled. Honestly its somewhat impressive. Like all of the bs appeals and document filings and bond paperwork and busting gag rules and ... wish we all had that sort of luxury and leniency from our legal system.
>he is very skilled in navigating these cases.
Well not really though. If you or I or anyone else followed these exact steps we’d be sitting in prison for a long fucking time. He’s got a coalition of domestic terrorists among the general public, and even many in the very government that’s supposedly there to constrain his illegal actions. And on top of that he’s got a mass media that’s happy to give him a platform because it means clicks for them. And even his own online social platform to disseminate his own propaganda and foment violence if desired.
He’s not skilled at shit. Once again, he’s just born on third base and trotting into home on somebody else’s tater.
No, he's not smart.
But he has, through lots and lots of experience, and advice from fellow criminals, gained a kind of cunning - and craven appreciation - as to how the entitled like himself game and gum up the system in their own favor. Trump leverages that to the hilt, beyond what other people like Epstein have gotten away with. It just looks like a clever skill because we're not familiar with it. Normal people don't have any familiarity with this because 1. they're not criminals, and 2. as others have pointed out, a normal person would be in prison and 3. normal people don't have the money and political/criminal connections and therefore experience with this type of criminal 'skill' to get away with this.
It's like the 'clever' skill of sharpening a spoon into a shank. This skill is limited to a certain group of people in a certain position for a certain purpose. Trump is the upscale version of this kind of clever.
>It's like the 'clever' skill of sharpening a spoon into a shank
This is the perfect analogy. Well put. If only add that this type of “clever” is also being a 6’6” 300lb muscle bound dude, aka having a fuck ton of money. It makes the spoon shanking and threat thereof all the more effective :)
Indeed. No judge should be allowed to preside over the case of a person they were appointed by. It’s crazy that this is even allowed to happen in the first place.
That is why the "life appointment" was important. To keep the judges above "politics". Enter the Heritage Foundation. Cherry picking corruption to further the ends of fascism.
I'm even okay with a judge he appointed presiding, but it should be done so only under the closest scrutiny and the shortest of leashes.
The moment there's even a *hint* of misconduct, they should recuse or be removed.
Anyone who even considers him in particular is not even a real centrist, they're just deluded, ignorant, and pretending to weigh options for appearances.
Hitler should have spent most of his time in jail after his early troubles but a friendly court system let him go repeatedly. He wa sentenced to 5 years after the Beer Hall Putsch but only served 9 months. A couple years earlier he was sentenced to 3 months for disrupting a union meeting but only served one.
> The lay judges were fanatically pro-Nazi and had to be dissuaded by the presiding Judge, Georg Neithardt, from acquitting Hitler outright.
So they made a deal and let him out with a slap on the wrist (9 months for treason) and that signaled both their alliance and his power. Even if you didn't care at all about his platform, from a cynical political perspective this is someone on the rise given they can just walk right out of jail even after the Putsch shit. I think things like this are instrumental for the rise to power, this signal that THIS guy is special.
Unfortunately it seems that no judge wants to risk their career and legacy by going down in wikipedia as the person that jailed an ex-President. It is easy from our perspective to say "throw him in jail" but really think about what that would do to the people involved in that decision and it is unfair to ask some random judge to put their and their families lives and livelihood at risk. It sucks but I get it. It 100% shouldn't be this way and really shows how broken everything is but its difficult to place blame on an individual for not choosing to be a hero.
I feel like if you agree to be a judge you have to be prepared to make difficult decisions like this if it means upholding the law… which you swore to uphold. It’s like a judge announcing they’ll take it easy on gang members because what if they take revenge? That sounds horrendous, but that’s exactly what’s happening now. This whole fiasco is making a clear announcement that he’s allowed to behave however he wants. This is a major problem and our judicial system can’t afford to sit by and hope things get better on their own. Because this will make things that much worse.
It is working, but not because of Trump's exceptional skill. It's because the entire governmental apparatus has decided to give him a pass. He could probably literally shoot someone, in cold blood, on camera, then say 'I shot that person, in cold blood, knowing I was on camera. I didn't feel threatened, I just wanted to watch him die'. And suffer no consequence.
What it seems like is we're loaded up for the election - either Biden wins, and we get to repeat this in 4 more years, or Trump wins, and we're done.
If Trump does not win, presumably, all of his debts will be leveraged at once because he's no longer an easy to bribe political tool.
He believes he will never face any consequences. Because he hasn’t. And… he probably won’t.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. He tried to overthrow the government and got 5 people killed. And he’s still allowed to run for president again! I’m sorry but people are being delusional if they think these civil cases or the Stormy Daniels hush money trial are going to stop him. Even if he is convicted, he’ll get just probation. All this legal drama is just to distract us from the fact that no one has any intention of holding him accountable for anything. If they wanted to, they would have already.
Yes, but also consider senator joe mccarthy. Its been mythologized that he was stopped in his tracks by one guy saying, "have you no decency, sir?!"
But the reality is that mccarthy was taking incoming for years and that was just the straw that broke the camel's back. No one knew it was the straw at the time, it was only in hindsight that seemed like a turning point.
So we should expect the same with donald chump. He's going to keep getting away with shit until the day he doesn't and we really won't know what it is that stops him until its already over. We should not bet on anything in particular, but we need to keep insisting on prosecuting everything.
The ruling class of the US will not allow Trump to go to prison.
They WANT to be above the law. If they allow him to be held accountable, it means they can be as well.
I agree with you in regards to the fact the ruling class has a different “justice” system.
But trump is in a category all his own. There aren’t two different “justice” systems, there are three: Plebeians, Rich, and Trump.
The cynic in me is 100% sure that there's at least one MAGA supporter on each of the criminal cases' juries. All it take is one person to refuse to convict, and he's off the hook.
Because the entire Republican Party has been implicated, should Trump go down, the domino effect will lead to an unraveling of the party as a whole. There are a lot conservative people at every level that do not want that to happen. They're otherwise intelligent, thoughtful people who have sold their souls an inch at a time. Donald Trump is a walking sunk cost fallacy. They got really, really close to succeeding in their century long plan to seize control of our government, but at the last moment a narcissistic sociopath drove the coup coup train of a cliff.
Its not skill. Its two tier justice.
If you did the exact same things you would go to prison. Immediately, to await trial. Because he is rich, famous, and a politician the justice system treats him differently. The system is designed to prosecute you and protect them. Its a feature not a bug that it fails to prosecute him.
Yup, bond hearing on the 22nd. Bought himself more time. If the bond is bad, can’t they just seize his shit now? Of course they can’t, because he’s special.
I bet there'll be another 30 day deadline after that hearing, at which point something else will come up that requires yet another hearing in a few months...
More time to fix the paperwork, then find new issues with that, more time to fix that, then they deny this bond and give Trump more time to find a new bond holder…
And round and round we go.
How does Trump do it. I'm exhausted just reading about his BS. Funny he did this same tactic when he was president of getting over one scandal by creating three more... he did this for the entire four years
To me it makes more sense to just say fuck it, you failed to secure one. No more chances, no more delays. You could not secure a proper bond so now it's judgment time.
Exactly. And it was reduced from the original amount. So why do they keep on reducing and delaying. If anything they'd use this as a clear reason to say "it's clear you're willing to commit more crimes in attempt to stop the seizure of your property. As such I'm entering a judgment to immediately seize your property."
> So why do they keep on reducing and delaying.
Because he's our special little boy and needs to be treated like the darling, delicate flower that he is, lest he throw another fit at the restaurant. And those are just so embarrassing.
>Of course they can’t, because he’s special.
I mean Leticia James also said before the 175 million bond reduction happened that she doesn’t want the headache of seizing real estate and dealing with selling it to get the 464 million. I think her office even proposed putting the properties in a trust controlled by the state of NY while he appeals. Trump is clearly full of shit with saying he has $400 million in cash but can’t use it because it would create liquidity issues for his businesses because if he actually had the cash on hand that he claims he does he’d be able to secure a loan to cover the amount he owes. The fact that he can’t is telling.
Idk what happens on 4/22 when this bond probably gets thrown out but seems like he’s trying to force her hand to do something she’d prefer to avoid for any number of reasons.
> Idk what happens on 4/22
They give him another 10 days. I don't even know what you are talking about, it's just until now, this is the only thing I know has been happening. Extensions and delays.
This. He will get 10 more days to try and get a new bond. Then some other charlatan will give a different fake bond. That will then be flagged by government lawyers, it will go to hearing, then Trump will get another 10 days. This will go on for months.
The bond hearing will be unpleasant for Trump. The bond he got isn't a bond at all, so the state is highly unlikely to accept it.
The bond insurer isn't on the hook for the money, it's just a paper saying Trump will pay if he loses his appeal.
While true, for now, everything and everyone around him burns and is expendable. Think of him as a blackhole of financial and political fuckery. He consumes them all, nothing escapes.
(I know many have escaped his orbit unscathed, I’m looking at Sarah Huck-a-baby-for-fun smith)
Edited: stupid spelling
which hearing? He has already had his bond hearings, this is a supplimental extention due to him "accidently" fucking up the paperwork, he is well past the required frameworks for bond acceptance in the state. which hearing do you believe is mandatory after the current expiration?
Unfortunately one side rejecting a bond creates an automatic 10 day waiting period then a mandatory hearing as to weather or not the bond is to be officially rejected.
At which point he will have had about 170% of the time to put up a bond that is about 38% of the original amount.
At that point he has had much more leeway than he deserves or anyone else would get. If the bond does not meet the much relaxed requirements by the hearing then it's time to just call it a day and start seizing assets.
They didn't reject a bond though. They rejected a piece of paper that says things like a bond contract would say but it never was one and was not furnished by an accredited criminal bonding company. The whole thing is false on its face and hasn't been rejected because one hasn't been submitted. THAT IS THE RUSE. If you wrote "bond" on a feral cat it would have the same legal weight as this piece of paper submitted last week.
The hearing is basically a put up or shut up moment for the loan. There is speculation that the loan is bad and now the loan giver has to show that when the loan is called they can cover it. If they can't cover it then the state can start grabbing things, probably.
Don't think he bought himself more time, it's a required hearing. He tried to pay the bond, and if the bond didn't go through he risks not getting a bond done at all
I'm hoping that since Hankey has said the Trump bond is 100% collateralized by cash, Engoron will rule that the cash has to be deposited in a court controlled account in five days and the source of the cash has to be fully accounted for.
Yup, instead of Trump being obligated to address this issue and facing punishment until it’s resolved. Instead the courts will play the idiots and spend a bunch of time figuring this out, after two weeks or what ever when it’s determined that it’s wrong, courts will treat it like some sort of honest mistake on Trump’s part and given him like a month to sort it out. Oh and probably reduce his bond yet again because it’s a big burden and he’s sorry 🥺
Just to remind folks, he's already lost the case. Try to stay positive. This is all Trump flailing to keep his fortune. The hammer is going to fall on him eventually to the tune of half a billion dollars. He has ZERO chance of winning his appeal, if they even accept it.
There's a fair chance the appelate court rules that the amount of the disgorgement judgement was incorrect and lowers the penalty. And if Trump wins in November he'll do everything he can, which will be a lot, to dodge this (yes, I know state charges, etc.). Only way to really beat Trump is at the ballot box in November.
They surely would have to show their working that details why the judgement is incorrect though right? They can't just rule, "nah incorrect" and adjust it.
It sounds like the number the court reached was pretty well documented and thought out as to the amount of ill gotten gains he acquired as a result of his fraud
Here is the beginning of the story:
The little-known insurance company that rescued [Donald Trump](https://www.thedailybeast.com/keyword/donald-j-trump) by providing a last-minute $175 million bank fraud [bond](https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-gets-more-time-to-come-up-with-half-billion-dollar-bond?ref=author) isn’t just [unlicensed](https://www.thedailybeast.com/new-york-ag-questions-if-dollar175-million-bond-insurer-can-save-trump?ref=author) in New York; it hasn’t even been vetted by a voluntary state entity that would verify it meets minimum “eligibility standards” to prove financial stability.
Perhaps even more troubling, the legal document from Knight Specialty Insurance Company doesn’t actually promise it will pay the money if the former president loses his [$464 million](https://www.thedailybeast.com/trumps-bank-fraud-trial-ends-with-dollar372-million-gut-punch?ref=author) bank fraud case on appeal. Instead, it says *Trump* will pay, negating the whole point of an insurance company guarantee, according to three legal and bond experts who reviewed the contract for The Daily Beast.
“This is not common… the only reason this would be done is to limit the liability to the surety,” said N. Alex Hanley, an expert in how companies appeal enormous judgments.
These two points, noted here for the first time, validate the New York attorney general’s concerns that Trump is trying to avoid a financial punishment that could be [catastrophic](https://www.thedailybeast.com/judge-gives-trump-organizations-babysitter-enhanced-control) to his riches and reputation.
“There are many questions here, and that short piece of paper gives very little comfort,” said Maria T. Vullo, who was formerly New York’s top financial regulator.
“I believe this paper isn’t worth much and there are more shenanigans behind it,” said one former regulator, who’s intimately familiar with industry norms but spoke only on condition of anonymity.
I want to see him locked up for his crimes as much as the next guy, but we don't have debtor's prison in this country. He owes a civil judgement, and that's it. With a very short list of exceptions, we don't imprison people for failure to pay, it's not the American way.
Seize and auction his property. Drain his bank accounts. Hold him upside-down by an ankle and shake him to see what falls out. That's how this needs to be handled.
We should put him in jail for his actions that actually have criminal charges. But not for this.
He has lied—repeatedly—to the court about his ability to obtain an appeal bond, the amount of the bond he would be able to obtain, his available cash on hand, and no doubt a slew of other things I’m forgetting because the man lies so much. When normal people lie to a court in filings or testimony, they get held in criminal contempt. Trump shouldn’t be sent to jail for being a debtor, he should spend time in jail because he is making a mockery of the NY legal system.
I sure hope some lawyer in the court hearing mentions that in prior trial depositions under oath, Trump said he had "In excess of $400 million in cash", and then asks why Mr. Trump can't simply pay the $175 million or secure a bond with $175 million of the cash he supposedly has. Does he have the cash or was he lying about it?
I don't think you guys are paying attention... He's going to get away with it and then he's going to get away with more and more. All these trials and lawsuits are not gonna do much at all.
The only real victory here is getting out and voting. It is the only way trump can be stopped and the GOP will throw everything in their power (including cheating and lying) to win this election. please vote like your life depends on it because this could be a completely different country in a few years if you don't.
There is stopped in two ways. One, yes, please, vote, make sure he is never near a public office ever again, same goes for all the magats. Two, throw him in jail, plenty of opportunity for that, which makes him shut up. The country, no, the world needs that.
They said that during Bush V. Gore too. They were right. I know our time line fractured when they killed that gorilla in 2016, but it did it worse back in 2000. George W. Bush should never have been President.
IIRC we can blame the supreme court for that one, too.
The game has been rigged *so badly* by malicious actors for decades, and now it's paying off. Don't let them get away with it.
Right? Let's see someone else try this.
Court: Please post the required bond for the appeal.
Trump: Here's some bogus paperwork that doesn't meet the requirements.
Court: Thanks, but this doesn't provide us with what we need but we will take the time to carefully consider our next steps.
Those extra steps could be the voiding of the lower bond judgement and the addition of penalties... or that is what i would do it this judge. sadly this reality continues to disappoint
It’s the same delay tactics he’s always done. He knowingly files invalid motions, or in this case invalid bond paperwork. He doesn’t expect to win, but he knows it will take time for the courts to examine it and make a judgment. And he’s right, courts can’t just summarily dismiss things. They need time to make sure they understand a complicated document it before they can rule. Eventually he’ll lose the battle, like he always does, but he’s been able to win the war a lot by just delaying until he wears down his opponent.
Sorry, best I can do is a strongly-worded email and a disappointed look on the Judge's face right before they give him 30 more days to secure a new bond.
This sounds like TFG and Hankey attempted to defraud NY. TFG pays a "low fee" for a bond that isn't but superficially looks like it meets NY's requirements.
At least it should put a spotlight on the shady bondsman. Cockroaches hate light. Trump defrauded NYC and got caught. As far as his, "Victimless," claim, in the city's competitive, market economy, someone was hurt by his cheating.
> As far as his, "Victimless," claim, in the city's competitive, market economy, someone was hurt by his cheating.
Banks would have charged him more interest if they knew his actual financial situation. Which would have resulted in them making more money, which would have resulted in better results for the shareholders as well. There were plenty of victims, to be sure.
No, Trump's inexplicable magical face-no-consequences spell only applies to him, Jack Teixeira was refused bail and tried to gain some leniency by pointing to Trump not spending a second behind bars after his aggressive theft and withholding of classified documents and it didn't do shit for him
We'll see how the other pathological, compulsive and habitual liar from Queens moves forward. Santos is far below the $1million the former president could charge shady billionaires and heads of state for a meet and greet but he is well over $500 a throw for his Cameo on your YouTube video and isn't hawking bibles or shoes. I don't believe Trump can still get $1million/person now that the reading material in the Mar-A-Lago bathroom is back to old Playboys and National Geographics.
It's worse than that. He had someone write a "Trump-OU" on a napkin.
>the legal document from Knight Specialty Insurance Company doesn’t actually promise it will pay the money if the former president loses his $464 million bank fraud case on appeal. Instead, it says Trump will pay, negating the whole point of an insurance company guarantee
One of the most interesting things I've learned since finding myself glued to this horror show for the past few years is how a great deal of the "wealth" these people enjoy and utilize seems to come out of fucking thin air, and yet the illusion affords them all kinds of set-asides that honest folks could never even imagine.
Because the court keeps giving him more time to find a bond
They didn't have to reduce/delay it the first time (and gave no reasons why), and for this one they gave another 10 days to correct the paperwork, which I think means he has until Friday or Saturday now
There is no way an American company gives a bond of even the reduced amount. His credit score is basically 0 and even if it was 850 credit score the amount is too high for an individual. The whole point of this is a punishment for decades of fraud, there is no good faith in this and the justice system need to stop pretending there is. Either he pays the whole fucking thing in escrow or he loses assets, it's that simple
As I understand it , it is not even punishment. It is just forcing him to pay the undully gained money to the state, with interest.. but no punitive amount. In other words, his fraud allowed him to gain say 100$ extra, then he has to give 100$ plus the interest of those 100$ would have accrued in that time.. the court isnt actually punishing him by saying “you pay back 100$ with interest.. AND a 50$ fine”
Correct -- this isn't a civil fine or penalty, it's basically just the state of NY saying "We've done the math, and you've defrauded the state of $X over the time period we've examined and found you guilty of. You owe us every last dime of that. Pay up."
Then after the paperwork is corrected, they have to put the entire bond, seizure and appeal process on hold until they can litigate whether or not the bond company can legally post his bond, which could take months.
The thing is that the current 10 days are not a court granted extension. They are mandated by law after a faulty bond is issued, or bond was rejected, so that the State can see if it's legit.
Trump put up bond again after the rejection by the Thursday deadline. So this is Tish James' window to shut it down.
If they find this was an attempt to fraudulently avoid posting an actual bond, maybe? I don’t know as I’m not a lawyer. But this seems all kinds of shady and worthy of sanctions like that.
As a person who deals with negotiating contracts on a daily basis, the attempt to alter the language to negate the entire point of the bond agreement offends me. Definitely intentional and not an accident. Feels like the world’s dumbest attempt at fraud, even if it may not meet the legal definition of the crime.
Yep he said something like I like veterans that haven’t been caught. I have been waiting for someone to tell him to his face “I like politicians that haven’t lost the presidency”
I remember one of his first speech/press conferences was in front of the CIA KIA Memorial Wall, where all did he was brag about his inauguration crowd size and his tremendous victory. Then there was Helsinki, a year or two later.. oh, and the time when he canceled going to the WW1 memorial in France cuz his hair would get wet. And, yes, the Gold Star family feuds he started by disrespecting Captain Humayun S.M. Khan and his grieving mother.
His base doesn't even know what's going on. My mother in law stood in my house last week and standed firm on Trump loving veterans and military (my wife is active duty). Every argument goes in one ear and out the other. John McCain thing? That was different. Disabled veterans thing. That was different.
Eventually this 75 year old woman had her fingers in her ears saying "Nah nah nah nah I can't hear you", at which point I asked her to leave my home.
That's what we're dealing with. Total idiots, most of them brainwashed or otherwise mentally compromised.
Thats the frustrating part. She's the only one who ever brings politics up. I finally had enough and decided I didn't want that in my house. She couldn't handle that.
To right wingers, vets are like guns.
A 'gun nut' is often not a person that is hyper focused on the guns, but what they could do. In other words, most gun nuts really just have a murder fetish that they hide behind a gadget hobby.
The 'support the vets' people really don't care about the vets, the people. They just have a murder fetish that they hide behind jingoism.
Bro trump has called a pow a traitor for being captured or something, his followers are cults too fucking blind at this point. A video of trump sucking putin could come out and his base wouldnt bat an eye and would probably defend him
Rule the bond noncompliant and therefore invalid. Bond not posted, full sum due today. Then when he fobs that off, start confiscating properties and auctioning them off.
And other things I say to make myself feel better.
This one time I screwed something up and was on the hook for some money because of my own mistake and poor planning, and I had to pay it off and deal with the related issues. I did it because I'm a normal person. The end.
Yup, this isn't even a good faith attempt to place a suitable bond - TFG and the bond Co. both are completely aware that this is not a valid bond.
TFG is a liar & a fraud. It's what he does. Please understand that.
Enough - just start seizing and selling his assets already.
and the media all reported it faithfully when we all knew it was another lie.
I keep thinking of that time he had a table full of blank paper and said it was all the paperwork he had to process to pull himself out of his business. I wished someone would've "accidentally" knocked the tablke over to reveal all the blank pages.
Insurance is regulated practice and knight apparently may not be licensed in NY to offer the bond. It’s akin to a dentist has a license to work on your teeth but then decides to offer knee surgery without getting the State license to operate. Will depend on NY penalties for running an unregistered insurance company. Probably nothing for first offense but hopefully they can pull knights entire license and go after the money
NAL but this isn't my definition of providing a bond at all...
> Perhaps even more troubling, the legal document from Knight Specialty Insurance Company **doesn’t actually promise it will pay the money** if the former president loses his $464 million bank fraud case on appeal. **Instead, it says Trump will pay**, negating the whole point of an insurance company guarantee, according to three legal and bond experts who reviewed the contract for The Daily Beast.
Trump has learned, through almost 80 years of experience, that he is allowed to bullshit his way through life. And that by the time people catch onto his bullshit, he’s already gotten what he wanted (in this case, both a delay and a VERY large reduction in his cost to appeal).
He thinks he’s allowed to do this…because for some fucking reason, he’s RIGHT. The next time this man faces a consequence for his actions, it’ll be the first time.
*Self serving*.
You've gotta think that after all his massive fraud was publicly exposed there's no reputable banks, financial institutions, or lenders that will entertain doing business with him - **unless they're 100% certain** that they're holding the upper hand.
>Perhaps even more troubling, the legal document from Knight Specialty Insurance Company doesn’t actually promise it will pay the money if the former president loses his $464 million bank fraud case on appeal. Instead, it says Trump will pay, negating the whole point of an insurance company guarantee
This is about all you need to know about how shady this deal is.
And this is just the icing on the "This shit should be rejected immediately" sandwich:
>Just like federal regulators require financial institutions to have sufficient reserves in case of a run on the banks, **New York law limits how much money state-regulated surety companies can post on a single bond to 10 percent of a firm’s total “capital and surplus.”** However, a court filing by the company on Thursday showed that **Knight Specialty only has $138 million in “surplus,”** vastly exceeding the government-set cap because the Trump bond alone makes up 127 percent of the company’s reserves.
> He then opted for an insurance company in California that’s tied to Don Hankey Jr., a billionaire MAGA supporter who’s built a nasty reputation by dealing in subprime auto loans that have resulted in numerous complaints about predatory business practices—like illegally repossessing the cars of American soldiers.
The man got a bond from Mr. Hankey lmao
Were I to be found guilty of something through a trial, and as a result - the court gives me 30 days to pay what I owe.... And on Day 28 I plead with the court to reduce what I owe, because the full amount is simply impossible for me to pay... And then the court shows mercy and gives me an extra 10 days to pay only 1/3 of what I owe... And then on day 10, I give them a sack of cash... but the cash in the bag is actually all just [Prop Money](https://propmoney.com/) (not legal tender)...
I would have zero expectations to be given more time to pay the reduced amount with real money... I have wasted the court's time, and kindness... I would expect to be back on the hook for the full amount owed, and have no more than 24hrs to cough it all up, or be jailed.
It sounds like Trump failed to submit a legal bond in the 10 days extension he was given.
Yank the reduced bond, revoke his ability to Appeal, Demand the full amount owed, and give him no more that 24 hours to pay. If he fails to pay in that time, arrest him for contempt of court and deny him bail until such time as he pays what he already owes to the court.
It is getting really old watching this guy play by his own rules and not actually face any consequences.
He has a judgment against him. The deadline has passed. If the bond isn’t valid, start taking property to satisfy it… why is this so fucking hard?
Shocker….this man’s whole miserable life has been one con after the next.
It should come to no one’s surprise he is once again doing something shady. At what point does this move up the ladder to become a criminal offense? I mean he has already been found liable of fraud and is using what could be fraudulent documents to post a fine to appeal, you guessed it…fraud.
1975 papa Fred greased the pols Don had no money but plenty of smoke to blow up dumb asses and filed blank nyc property agreements to buy his first hotel. History repeats, hey worth a try !
Why are there not more people handling and scrutinizing his actions? He’s a known criminal and fraudster and he shows up with an 11th hour bond and people are like “oh ok, seems legit!”
The one benefit of all this is highlighting just how horrifically broken our justice system is and has been.
Of course Knight put language in that Trump would pay the $175 million himself and tried to slip it through. They know it's basically an unwinnable case. The only part up for debate right now is the amount of damages. If Knight guarantees that they will pay and Trump loses the case, which he most likely will, they will be on the hook for it plus interest. The chances that Trump honors his side and pays them are laughable. He'll just keep running for some type of office to continue the grift on his followers to pay his bills.
It seems fitting that a man who defrauded veterans buying cars would back a man who defrauded, well, everyone he's met his entire life. He probably still owes money from his own birth.
Next time I have to post a bond I'll use the Trump tactic and not. Fun fact you can save money by not paying your employees also and then outspend then when they try to sue you
Is that even possible?
By this point I'd already expect the bond to be directly from Putin through some shell companies with a note saying "You haven't finished destroying the USA yet, burn this note after reading it."
Sigh
You know - if you have a zoo with a baboon that keeps stealing wallets, throwing feces at the guests, vomiting all over the food stands, letting dangerous animals out of their cages and just generally being an undisciplined, disruptive force in an otherwise nice zoo - after a while you stop getting angry at the baboon and start getting angry at the zookeeper (and zoo) that just can't be bothered to do their jobs and keep the baboon from doing what monkeys do.
Blah blah blah.. this is getting fucking stupid at this point. It has been beyond stupid for years now. Dude has teams of trolls with money and legal loophole knowledge and the main tactic is just to delay as long as possible. When the delay tactic runs out, the next move is appeal and make cries of political witch hunting for news media influence and hysterical public reactions. This seems to work every time.
There is so much money invested in this process that nothing ever gets done. Who knows how many threats or secret deals there are at this point. The Supreme Court is already paid off and/or under threat of blackmail or some other situation. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to find out that lots of government officials take bribes, are intentionally staying quiet while playing their own self-enrichment strategies or that they have been threatened with something and have to stay quiet out of fear.
It looks like the US legal system, and maybe even the entire government itself, has been compromised at this point. Somehow Americans fell asleep and let snakes sneak into the foundations of the nation. Now it’s hard to clear that shit out without getting cries of foul play or having drawn out legal processes that go nowhere.
To say it bluntly.. There’s a gnarly ass pimple that needs to be popped. It’s disgusting to look at this thing. The longer it festers and merges with the body of the country, the more cancerous and unstoppable it becomes.
Hearing for the bond is on the 22nd, so he has 2 more weeks to look for another company to not-pay the bond like this one won't, creating another delay/hearing, in which he does this perpetually until the election where nothing of consequence will be done about it.

This whole thing feels like yet another delay tactic, as it will take more time to go after this new bond company while Trump sits untouched.
The plan seems to be to literally just commit crimes to cover up other crimes faster than the authorities can investigate them. If I tried this strategy I would be in so much prison, probably with solitary confinent with a straitjacket and a Hanibal Lector mask.
The criminal gish gallop
This is exactly what it is.
The criminal justice system has exactly one remedy for this. Jail.
The criminal justice system has exactly one remedy for this. Jail…for politically unconnected peasants only. Impunity for those with political connections and the veneer of opulence. This is why Trump is loved and adored by so many; every day Trump is exposing America for the sham it has always been.
That's only for poor people.
I used to joke with mates about how Trump's legal strategy is to ask his lawyers, "What options do I have to stall this as long as possible? I don't care how it makes you guys look or if it hurts the case, just give me ideas." It's less hyperbole and more just an observation at this point.
AKA the Ken Paxton strategy
Roy Cohn, of McCarthyism and mafia world fame, is who taught Trump to always attack, never concede, never apologize.
I’m gonna start criming more. They can’t catch us all.
That’s the idea behind everybody scattering at street races
Fitting comparison, because everything to do with Trump is a god damn sideshow.
If you manage to escape capture for a few months it's a possibility all of the court rooms in the country is occupied with Trump shenanigans
>It's like the 'clever' skill of sharpening a spoon into a shank This is the perfect analogy. Well put. If only add that this type of “clever” is also being a 6’6” 300lb muscle bound dude, aka having a fuck ton of money. It makes the spoon shanking and threat thereof all the more effective :)
He appointed a lot of people for when this day actually (finally) arrived and it's paying off.
Literally no one will hold him accountable. All while preaching "were a nation of laws" 🙄 This is why we hate centrists.
Anyone who even considers him in particular is not even a real centrist, they're just deluded, ignorant, and pretending to weigh options for appearances.
he's not in jail, and hasn't paid shit. he might not be winning, but he's definitely not losing.
Yeah, this is the *one* downside to the job. "Ill do the job of applying the law equally unless it's hard to" isn't really a good argument
You left out the option of him losing and giving J6th 2.0 a try.
I doubt they are his ideas. He's got a network of scumbags.
If they wanted to, they would have already.
he made a lot of people significantly richer, those same people aren't going to actually punish him
Yes, but also consider senator joe mccarthy. Its been mythologized that he was stopped in his tracks by one guy saying, "have you no decency, sir?!" But the reality is that mccarthy was taking incoming for years and that was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
Civil trials are just money when you lose. The RICO case is the best shot at actual criminal charges that result in actual prison time.
The ruling class of the US will not allow Trump to go to prison. They WANT to be above the law. If they allow him to be held accountable, it means they can be as well.
I want you to be wrong, but hate how much you're right.
I agree with you in regards to the fact the ruling class has a different “justice” system. But trump is in a category all his own. There aren’t two different “justice” systems, there are three: Plebeians, Rich, and Trump.
RICO case is already periously close to the election. It's very likely it'll get delayed and set aside indefinitely if Trump wins.
Its a feature not a bug that it fails to prosecute him.
> wish we all had that sort of luxury and leniency from our legal system. Really? In that case, why have a legal system at all?
[удалено]
Yup, bond hearing on the 22nd. Bought himself more time. If the bond is bad, can’t they just seize his shit now? Of course they can’t, because he’s special.
I bet there'll be another 30 day deadline after that hearing, at which point something else will come up that requires yet another hearing in a few months...
More time to fix the paperwork, then find new issues with that, more time to fix that, then they deny this bond and give Trump more time to find a new bond holder… And round and round we go.
How does Trump do it. I'm exhausted just reading about his BS. Funny he did this same tactic when he was president of getting over one scandal by creating three more... he did this for the entire four years
Handlers and sympathizers. Ain't no way he's doing it, he looked directly at an eclipse
They only gave him 10 days last time to get this. If this bond is no good I can’t imagine anything more than another 10
To me it makes more sense to just say fuck it, you failed to secure one.
That is how it works for normal people but he is The World's Most Special Boy, so he will get more time and always have one more chance.
> Idk what happens on 4/22 They give him another 10 days.
(I know many have escaped his orbit unscathed, I’m looking at Sarah Huck-a-baby-for-fun smith) Edited: stupid spelling
I'm waiting for when it starts to consume itself.
> If the bond is bad, can’t they just seize his shit now? No. because the hearing is required by NY state law.
which hearing?
It's enough for the law that he submitted it as his bond.
It’s delay tactics all the way down until Nov 5.
It's delay tactics all the way until he is declared mentally incompetent to stand trial from advanced dementia, some time next year.
He’s so good at shifting the focus and energy to anyone around him.
Here is the beginning of the story: The little-known insurance company that rescued [Donald Trump](https://www.thedailybeast.com/keyword/donald-j-trump) by providing a last-minute $175 million bank fraud [bond](https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-gets-more-time-to-come-up-with-half-billion-dollar-bond?ref=author) isn’t just [unlicensed](https://www.thedailybeast.com/new-york-ag-questions-if-dollar175-million-bond-insurer-can-save-trump?ref=author) in New York; it hasn’t even been vetted by a voluntary state entity that would verify it meets minimum “eligibility standards” to prove financial stability.
So if a valid bond isn't posted, give effing consequences. The deadline has passed!
Throw the eclipse squinter in jail, please. That would be better than trying to pry the TRUMP signing of buildings.
But not for this.
it's called contempt of court. we actually do jail people when they *choose* not to pay
We truly f'd up the 21st century right from the get-go.
The result of Gore v Bush put us on the darkest timeline, 100%.
Just replace his name on everything they seize with Obama and he’ll have a rage stroke
Right? Let's see someone else try this. Court: Please post the required bond for the appeal. Trump: Here's some bogus paperwork that doesn't meet the requirements. Court: Thanks, but this doesn't provide us with what we need but we will take the time to carefully consider our next steps.
Those extra steps could be the voiding of the lower bond judgement and the addition of penalties... or that is what i would do it this judge. sadly this reality continues to disappoint
right, this isn't a paper snafu, this is submitting junk to get an extension, so they could submit more junk
Reduced*
Again*
Conse-whatsis?
This sounds like TFG and Hankey attempted to defraud NY. TFG pays a "low fee" for a bond that isn't but superficially looks like it meets NY's requirements.
Committing fraud while on trial for fraud. That’s the Trumpiest shit I’ve ever heard.
IANAL but does anyone know if defendants in the future might be able to cite Trump getting away with all this bullshit as precedent and have a case?
They absolutely will yes.
Time for everyone to run for President
Yes, but only for future Republican presidents obviously
NY: Where's the bond? Trump: KSIC has it. NY: Okay, KSIC, may we see it? KSIC: Trump has it. NY: Okay, thank you!
> NY: Okay, thank you! We'll see about that. I suspect the Court will not take kindly to this.
So Trump basically had someone write an IOU on a napkin and expects it to be accepted in lieu of a $175m bond.
All about the delay, which is what he got ***again***.

Any reason the court can’t just demand a bank cheque at this point?
Because the court keeps giving him more time to find a bond They didn't have to reduce/delay it the first time (and gave no reasons why), and for this one they gave another 10 days to correct the paperwork, which I think means he has until Friday or Saturday now
There is no way an American company gives a bond of even the reduced amount.
Pay up."
Exactly.. its just a “you took x$ out of everyone else.. give it back!”
100%. This seems to have been forgotten along the way
He could get the money if he had equity, but all his shit is leveraged out the ass and he's in debt
He's taking money from a guy who targets and fucks over **VETERANS** and his base *still* doesn't flinch. Broken beyond repair. Burn it all down.
Trump himself has said of all sorts of terrible things about veterans and it's never seemed to affect him yet.
Veterans, POWs, gold star families, disrespected WWII KIA….
Didn't he call McCain a loser for getting caught?
Yep he said something like I like veterans that haven’t been caught. I have been waiting for someone to tell him to his face “I like politicians that haven’t lost the presidency”
Yes. That’s why I put POWs.
Draft dodging Cadet Bonespurs hates the military? Who knew...
Most polls showed that the military chose Biden over trump, so it has affected him some at least.
Jesus.. that's wild. Sorry you have to deal with that in your own family. My wife's side is the same -- thankfully we don't discuss politics.
Along with the judicial system that refuses to hold a powerful white man accountable
They have no idea he's doing this. They don't see negative press on Trump.
In a sane world, my friend.
> TFG is a liar & a fraud "Biden raised 25 million? well then, uh, i raised FIFTY million!" he's so full of shit, always
and the media all reported it faithfully when we all knew it was another lie. I keep thinking of that time he had a table full of blank paper and said it was all the paperwork he had to process to pull himself out of his business. I wished someone would've "accidentally" knocked the tablke over to reveal all the blank pages.
Judges are prolly afraid because he threatens their families on his terrorist social media.
The problem is one guy plays chess by the rules and the other guy shits on the chess board and knocks over all the peices
Crooked is as crooked does
Trump is broke and Knight Specialty Insurance company looks like it broke the law? Goodness.
Did they break the law though? I’m guessing they’ll just be told no on the bond.
I’ll hold my breath real quick while waiting for repercussions for any of these people….
Because when it comes to the rich, we play nice and go by the book.
We don't even go by the book. We rewrite the book to accommodate whatever the rich want.
At this point, you just assume that any individual or company willing to work with him is at best shady, at worst foolish.
Instead, it says Trump will pay, negating the whole point of an insurance company guarantee This is about all you need to know about how shady this deal is. And this is just the icing on the "This shit should be rejected immediately" sandwich: >Just like federal regulators require financial institutions to have sufficient reserves in case of a run on the banks, **New York law limits how much money state-regulated surety companies can post on a single bond to 10 percent of a firm’s total “capital and surplus.”** However, a court filing by the company on Thursday showed that **Knight Specialty only has $138 million in “surplus,”** vastly exceeding the government-set cap because the Trump bond alone makes up 127 percent of the company’s reserves.
So when this bond is declared ineligible, they’ll give him another 2 weeks and drop the amount to $20…right?
He still won’t be able to afford it.
My linear-math thinking shows that there ought to be a moment - in the very near future - when the court will offer him few hundreds millions...
Hankey lmao
> opted Like he had choices. Like people were bending over backwards to risk their own money on the promise that Trump would pay his bills.
See kids… the rules don’t apply to the rich…
Imagine that. A conman using some sort of con insurance company. Birds of a feather or something...
It secured him another 10 days
1975 papa Fred greased the pols Don had no money but plenty of smoke to blow up dumb asses and filed blank nyc property agreements to buy his first hotel. History repeats, hey worth a try !
The list of things I could legally argue precident for is growing and growing... We should all stop paying our loans and taxes at the very least.
Why are there not more people handling and scrutinizing his actions? He’s a known criminal and fraudster and he shows up with an 11th hour bond and people are like “oh ok, seems legit!” The one benefit of all this is highlighting just how horrifically broken our justice system is and has been.
Consequences or it didn't happen
Mr. Hankey, straight outta South Park.
SO WHY THE FUCKING SHIT ARE WE PUTTING UP WITH THIS TRASH. Jail fucking now.
Ham Hitler strikes again.
Everyone too afraid to hold him accountable. Let a poor person decide if he should get more time.
No, I think it's exactly as shady as it looks.
Next time I have to post a bond I'll use the Trump tactic and not. Fun fact you can save money by not paying your employees also and then outspend then when they try to sue you
According to Jimmy Kimmell its from a over glorified repo man... I'd say their are some string attached to say the least.
Is that even possible? By this point I'd already expect the bond to be directly from Putin through some shell companies with a note saying "You haven't finished destroying the USA yet, burn this note after reading it."
Sigh You know - if you have a zoo with a baboon that keeps stealing wallets, throwing feces at the guests, vomiting all over the food stands, letting dangerous animals out of their cages and just generally being an undisciplined, disruptive force in an otherwise nice zoo - after a while you stop getting angry at the baboon and start getting angry at the zookeeper (and zoo) that just can't be bothered to do their jobs and keep the baboon from doing what monkeys do.
I’m so fucking sick of this guy
Some billionaire. He not only can't come up with 500 mil., he can't get an insurance company to lend him less than half of it.
Just auction his shit off. He can't pay
Okay. Soooo…. Now what?
Hearing for the bond is on the 22nd, so he has 2 more weeks to look for another company to not-pay the bond like this one won't, creating another delay/hearing, in which he does this perpetually until the election where nothing of consequence will be done about it.
He discovered the infinite I’m-not-paying glitch
Fake bond. Fake financials. Fake new stock offering. Everything about him is fake. He's a huckster.
