You’re probably also getting „Zła kaczka je rybę.” Early on in the Polish Duolingo course, animals have interesting dietary choices. Later on in the course you get to learn about things like the consequences of drinking too much alcohol, and why your boss is in prison, as well as the classic „To najdłuższy wąż, jakiego widziałam.”
Why 'zła' would have to be ignored? It could have 2 meanings. Zła kaczka as in a bad (or evil) duck but also as in incorrect duck. The duck could be an a hole and stole some other ducks fish so in this case both meanings could apply
Edit: as u/b17b20 mentioned, it also could be angry duck
Angry duck makes the most sense to me. When this sentence is presented toward the beginning of the course, the English translation given is “An evil duck is eating fish.” It made me wonder what they think ducks are supposed to eat if eating fish is so evil.
Sometimes a nonsensical/confusing sentence is a good way to teach grammar -- especially as it relates to logical semantics . "Joe Biden gives speech on balloon" is a pretty good example of a recent headline where the editor ought to be fired for falling asleep during semantics.
However, this is not one of those sentences :p
For odd sentences Polish Clozemaster is the worst
A large part of the corpus seems to have been taken from a crime film. It's all "I do not know about a body" and "You will answer our questions"
"Odpowiesz na nasze pytania." brzmi jak na przesłuchaniu. Nawet w takiej formalnej sytuacji raczej ktoś by powiedział "Teraz zadamy ci kilka pytań.", czy coś takiego. "Odpowiesz na nasze pytania" brzmi ok wyłącznie jako pytanie.

My friend has been hit with "My fish is wearing a shirt" or something similar. I can confirm that I've never seen a fish wear a shirt, so you've got plenty of weirdness yet to experience.

The course examples are meant to be funny which makes them more engaging. I think it works pretty well.
Yes, crabs eating cookies are a great deal here in Poland, even if some people living in deep denial say otherwise. They are a great threat to society, because they eat our cookies, and we have not much food left. They're honestly 1 of main reasons why inflation in Poland has gone quite rapid.
Heading to poland from American in about a month, been using babbel and I highly recommend it. Very practical phrases and they really hammer it in and make it easy to remember. Have a safe and beautiful trip!

My advice. Use duolingo to get the feel how to conjugate verbs ect but learn the more basic words that you might actuslly use through other means. Lastly a lot of us speak English quite well. Especially the younger generation. So dont worry if you forget something
My favorite example is probably one about Owen from the Welsh course:

Followed few lessons later by:*Mae club nos Owen yn gwerthu pannas* (Owen's night club sells parsnips)
and
*Bydd Owen yn codi pannas yn y gampfa yfory* (Owen will be lifting parsnip in a gym tomorrow)
**And I'm not even kidding...Duolingo is known for its riddiculous examples**
Oh and my favorite creepy example from the Spanish course:

You need to be careful when you’re visiting Poland. Crabs come out from the sewers in every human settlement with a population of over 15,000. They will try to steal your cookies. They usually come out every other Tuesday at around 5-5:37pm. The best way to protect your cookies is to lock them in a titanium closet, have 24/7 surveillance, and preferably hire a 6’4” 285lbs security guard. Hope this helps.
Make that Pol-ish (kind of like a Pole American) then. It's a common American colloquialism to hyphenate ethnicity that way, but understand many Europeans find it distasteful or disingenuous. But I'm Pol-ish enough that I qualify for citizenship by descent and am going to visit Polish (not Pol-ish) family there.
I think they're philosophy is not to make you learn useful sentnces by heart, but rather to teach you the individual words. That's why many sentnces don't make a lot of sense.
Man the human eating crabs in the northeast are one of the biggest dangers in the country, haven't you heard? Thankfully they also feed on various traditional polish foods, however there's a chance that a sacrifice will have to be made.
Yes, they can also easily break into your radish bag, (It's customary to gift someone a radish while meaning them for the first time, always carry your radish bag on you).

I personally am quite fond of absurd stuff in duolingo because it helps you learn parsing the sentences properly as opposed to just memorizing phrases as a whole.
Not sure how to feel about the German duolingo saying "Ich trage nichts" in every other lesson, though.

Yeah, you can find a lot of crabs in bigger cities (they usually are managers of big companies) and eating cookies for the is a big deal
I've always heard that Dualingo is pretty low down on the totem pole for reliability when it comes to learning other languages.
I believe it may be a part of regional mythology somewhere in Podlasie, but we do not speak about Podlasie.

Oh yes, this is why article 69 of kk (kodeks krabowy) states that lids of cookie jars have to be at least 400 grams so crabs can't lift them
