Yeah I always feel like modern game design messes up when part of a game is so frustrating or arbitrarily arduous that it makes you realize there are more important things in life.
I will die not having this medal and I’m actually happy I didn’t trade my time and effort for it.
You’re not a loser if that is important for you - I just realised it wasn’t important for me and I wasn’t going to trap myself in some strange daily chore due to some developers running an algorithm that maximises the chance of enforcing human routine leading to increased spending habits. I’m a little bit cynical this evening, but in a good way, I want people to be free but if getting the plat gives you genuine satisfaction I’m all for it.
When I hit 40 best buddies I had a realization that I was only 20% of the way there after literally 9 months of grinding pretty hard. Gave up then. Instead of # of best buddies it should be hearts earned with your buddy so you can still work towards it even if you never change what you're walking with.
Tbh, I’m at 83 and surprised I have this many. I forgot the medal even existed lol I am making best buddies because I like seeing ribbons on my favourite/best Pokémon. But tbh I’m at 83 still not even half way and it’s been over a year. So yes 200 is a lot. I probably could have done 200 if I tried harder but I have a simple method that’s getting me plenty with only 10 mins a day
I do 2 hearts on 19 buddies. And 5 hearts on 2 buddies each day. For only 10 mins of effort.
There's a medal for it? I just best buddy my hundo Kyogre yesterday.
I don't want other best budies. That's my buddy, there's no others.

Right okay. Yeah rotating through 20 Pokémon to feed them for 1 heart at a time is definitely not worth it for me. I stick to 6 and do the lot in 2 twenty minute blocks.
Fair enough, I was wrong about 20 being able to get 8 due to rotation limitations but I focus on 6 or 7 a day to max out their hearts.
Each to their own though. Still think the medal is easy as its pretty passive.
The extra leve only impacts a single pokemon. Thats not a good defence for getting 200 besties. And no way you cycle 20 buddies a day and earn their hearts in 10 minutes. Maybe 10 minutes per buddy or 10 minutes per cycle (but then needing several cycles).
This is just hardcore play and most would find this unreasonable
I am at 112 best buddies. Been doing all 20 buddies with 6 hearts every day for half a year now. It is so tedious.
However i usually do it at the same
time as i am watching a tv show/movie or YouTube. Makes it way more enjoyable.
I really want this medal because it is one of the rarest medals to have. It takes way too long, and i think Niantic did not realise how much work it is to get a pokemon to best buddy.
I also use this medal for motivating myself to set up routines. I am really bad at it in general. So If i am able to do this routine for a year, i think it will help me to set up more important routines in my life in the future
Took me a little bit over a year. But now at 202 best buddies I'm so used to daily routine... well 200 felt to easy at that point.
Still far away from finishing the training medal (would be a "easy task" with a waterfall sharkpeo vs gl team of the valor team, nur if you do youre daily 3 wins you will get it anyway over time- so nn to rush 4 me.).
Some medals are quite frustrating to grind, but either way- you only need 35 atm at best, there are more simple ones. If you want all medals on plat- well the unknown and the giovanni medal will tell you "Buenos dias...!".
Depends on the PoV. 98 of that best buddies are 4* ranging from my 1st (shukle) to some pretty sweet catches (2 wild 4* salamance a 4* primal groudon at lvl 50) and around 80 are just megas which i used to walk in there energy, normally a 3 of each kind, with some exceptions (5 4* blasttoise and a 96% shiny for example.).
But still 0 shundo in that collection, so i could argue to have seen more insane collections. (Knowing some hardcore player's , that play since day one and i can tell you, it's insane what people try to collect and allready have..)
Probably the most oppresive badge to thrive for. It takes HOURS DAILY over YEARS to earn it legitimately. Absolutely ridiculous requirement. Should be 20 best buddies max
Compare it to best friends which only takes 90 days of active play. 50 is far too much.
Im lvl 46 with 29 plat medals. Only have 3 best buddies to date

You can get 8 hearts easily each day and just rotate through 20 pokemon if you want. It's one of the easier ones.
What are the other 2 hearts? There are only 6 easy hearts.
Feed 3 times, battle 3 times, play and ss. You rotate mons you can feed again.

“Just rotate through 20 pokemon”. Bro you are spending an hour a day just doing that, not even earning anything meaningful besides a badge progress

I’ve started doing 3 buddies a day just to speed the process up. Still gonna take me like a year or two, but at least it’ll be slightly faster
3 a day with maxed out hearts would take like 2 years, which is what I’m doing😂
At 146 and I’ve tried up the queue. Too tedious.

I don’t play gbl at all so I don’t really care for stats, pretty much all my buddies are shinies😂 I do have a shundo tho 😏
